The Sithies 2015 Greetings and Salutations members of JvS,
Once again an arbitrary date within November has come upon us, this year marking the start of nominations for the Sithies 2015! As I am sure some of you have seen the Sithies 2015 Thread in the JvS RP Plannning area by now, I am sure you are well aware that this year, the Sithies will be taking things back a few notches. Now I know this is a bit of a long preface, but I want to make sure we are all on the same page when it comes to the expectations of The Sithies 2015. Back when this event was concieved all those years ago, the aim of it was to celebrate the writing that was done on JvS, and that is what the Sithies 2015 will be about: getting together for a weekend to look back at the year that was, and have a gander at what other people have been writing. Obviously there will be awards handed out, since that has always been a part of The Sithies, but I want to remind each and everyone of you now, that it doesn't matter whether we give you an award or not, or whether you win or lose. We are, all of us, writer's on JvS, and that is the most important thing. It is also why there has been a slight increase in Player's Choice awards, to give you all a chance to choose who your favourite is in certain categories.
Now, down to the nitty gritty:
- All Nominations for Judged Categories should be PMed to me: @wilhelmvanbuuren.
- Nominations will be open from today up until Midnight on Janurary 1st 2015 (AEST).
- Eligable posts will be from December 1st 2013 up to November 30th 2014.
- Nominee's will be contacted from December 1st to provide Three (3) Posts. EDIT: Please note, if you are nominatings, you are more than welcome to include links to Posts you think should be submitted for Judging. If posts are submitted, the Nominee will be made aware of them and have a chance to choose from the posts. But be aware, this is not mandatory, it is just for those who want to put in the extra effort to submit posts they think fit their chosen Nominee's category. Otherwise, Nominate as usual.
- Player's Choice Nominations will be made through the Sithies Public Forum (threads will be linked)

Just for clarity's sake Doctor... can we send you Noms for the Players choice stuff too? How does that work?

Also, for those of you wondering: you can indeed, and I actively encourage you, to nominate yourself for awards. As I have stated repeatedly before, the Sithies is about celebrating the writing that we do on JvS, and apart of that is not only going "well I read this guys stuff, and I think you should read it too", it's also about going "well I've been working on some stuff, and I reckon other people might enjoy reading it too". You may even end up finding someone who might want to write with you IC, so you know, it also serves as a good networking event with hookers! and blackjack! |

ADDENDUM: Just putting this out there right now, because I can already see where some of the future comments will be going after the Sithies list of Nominees comes out in a couple months, but if you dont take this chance (you still have till midnight on Janurary 1st 2015) to nominate people and put forth names for categories, you instantly and unconditionally, give up your right to bitch, whine, complain, or negatively comment about the results.
As I've said many times before, I want to make this a fun event, that is about celebrating the writing on JvS, and not making it an event that people look at or walk away from going "this is totally elitist". You want to see it as an elitist event, then that is entirely your own personal perogative and should not sully other people's experience of the event, because the fact of the matter is, everyone has an equal chance of winning an award, provided you dont sit around declaring the Sithies as an automatically elitist event because of its past, instead of nominating other people or yourself for awards and actively participating to help change the event itself.
Part of being able to nominate yourself for awards, is that it takes away from that whole "this is totally a serious and upstanding event that has a reputation to keep for only celebrating 'elite' writers". No, this is about everyone having a chance to put their name forward, or other people's names forward, to advertise their writing to your fellow writers on JvS.
As an aside, I will be starting to contact people that have been nominated so far and begin post collecting very soon, probably by the end of this week.

A suggestion: can the sithies awards for 2014 look a little more like the 2011 awards? Easier to add to your profile, etc.

actually I'm not really sure, I don't really remember what the 2011 awards looked like, perhaps you have one laying around you could show for reference?
