I started this character awhile ago and am now just getting to the point where I can actually work with him. Essentially, I want him to be a crime lord, although I know I'll probably have to gain this title IC (I'm not wanting to cheat or anything - if I can start with my own organization, albeit small, I would like that). To be honest, as I'm finishing out his bio, I'm just not sure where to have him start (ie what planet). I've never written a character of this type, so I'm asking for suggestions/advice for how to get this started.

I'm not sure how active he is at the moment but you should talk to @kolga. He's looking to increase RP in Hutt space.

Atia also runs a criminal organization, with Imperial ties. Another approach to get your name out in the underworld would be to come up with a job you want done, and hire one of the several smuggler crews to do it for you. My crew is busy right now, but one of the others might be available.

jokes aside, I also run Imperial Intelligence, wich is masked a criminal organisations as drug kartells, slave rings and mega corporations. So, if you want to do your profile pic justice, you could become an agent...
on the other hand, Republic also needs some intelligence people, as long as I know, only Crom runs intelligece for them, and they could need the help, and me an other rival...

Sounds good. I am actually in the works to start a diplomatic embessie with the Republic from the Empire side, and would need someone to go there, and make it look like it is just a bunch of diplomats being there in case the Emperror wants to talk to the Senate or wice versa... and in that group, we will need someone whom will be the head of Imperial Intelligence Coruscant, handling some of my allready present agents, handling situations like the upcoming Charity Ball ( YES, I WILL GET AROUND TO DOING IT) and other events of intelligence gathering.
basically, you would be given a place of your own to govern as head cloak-and-dagger honcho.

Well, Kuat would be your first bet, there in therrian, is a place called Estate of the Ten. If I recall it needs you to be a member of the Empire to see and write there, so that would be your first shot. Also, shoot a PM to the Emperor (Nicademus) or write in the imperial thread somewhere in this very forum.
First, there will be a meeting with Bateman, as usual. He likes to meet menedgement people himself. Then, as Bateman gets the emperor approval for the operation, you will be sent to the Senate to get an Embassy. Rattle the Republic a bit.
You will like Bateman. he is a lot like Berry.
