Canon businesses and employees
Canon businesses cannot be owned. You may roleplay as specific (PC or NPC) employees of a canon business, and you may achieve military control of specific locations belonging to a canon business, but you may not claim ownership of the entire business.
Canon businesses are assumed to have an office on every JvS planet on which they have a canon presence. If you wish to open a branch of a canon business on a planet not mentioned in canon, you must write out this transaction IC through an existing office location, or through an existing employee (not written by yourself) of the canon business.
If you wish to write an employee of a canon business (PC or NPC), your character must travel to a canon location for that business and be hired as an employee IC, or you must form an IC business relationship with an existing employee (not written by yourself) of that canon business.
In order to remain an employee of a canon business, your character must remain active in his job as an employee of that business, or your character will be assumed to have quit, and must be re-hired according to the rule above. Activity is defined as at least one IC post demonstrating business activities every 2 months (interaction with another character, visit to a business office, etc).
The same character may be an employee of multiple businesses so long as the businesses are not direct competitors - please use common sense to determine if there is an IC conflict of interest.
Business Locations
The Whills will create, upon request, a single thread for the office of a canon business on any planet where the business was know to exist in canon. This privilege is at our discretion, and may be refused if there is not a sufficient RP presence on the planet in question to justify additional threads being created. Offices will only be created on non-canon locations if the situation meets the criteria for a General RP Location or a Faction/Usergroup Headquarters.
It is theoretically possible to to exert IC control over a business through military and economic action against all canon locations and known employees (blockades, imprisonment, etc), but you may not claim OOC control. Your IC control will always be subject to potential IC subversion (such as invasion or the creative use of smugglers). Anyone may buy canon products from a canon business, so long as they can gain IC access to an employee or business location, and provide a believable IC justification for the transaction. If you chose to write the employee of a canon business, you may not refuse a canon business transaction for OOC reasons. Refusals for IC reasons are allowed, as these new rules provide ample paths to subvert an IC refusal from a particular employee.
Canon business offices should be viewed as largely neutral. Any permanent defenses should be under the IC command of an employee of the business and act in the business's best interests, rather than acting for a third party government or faction. Third party troops are allowed on a temporary basis, with IC cause (for example, during an enemy attack on the planet's commercial facilities, or during an investigation of criminal activity). This does not extend to the surroundings of a business office: sieges and blockades are allowed.
Non-canon products/inventions
You may create non-canon products of a canon business, and your non-canon creations are not subject to the same rules: you retain OOC control over your own creations. However, this is non-exclusive. Anyone with the proper access to the canon company may also create their own derivative non-canon inventions.
Non-canon businesses
Non-canon businesses are largely unregulated, however, the Whills will not create dedicated thread(s) for a non-canon business. If you wish to have a location for your non-canon business, we suggest that you find an existing location that is unused, request a General RP Location according to the standard rules, or, for large businesses, create a Usergroup/Faction headquarters.
Business troops/fleets
Business defense fleet allowances no longer exist. If you business needs troops or space defenses, they must come from your personal fleet/troop allowances. A small number of unarmed transport vehicles or ships may be written, as needed to fit a storyline, but these extra items may not be used for any hostile purpose, such as military action, smuggling, slave-taking, etc. Hostile actions must be carried out using transports within your personal fleet/troop allowances.
