I think the title says it best. What does your characters name mean? Is it something sentimental? Did you just go to a name generator? Does it describe something about your character? Ill start
Xeonon Solomon. Well I got my name because of Gabriel Solomon. He sort of IC adopted me and OOC was the reason I stayed around for more than a few days. I took it on because he wanted to set up a Solomon dynasty. Solomon means wise I believe. As for Xeonon, well I originally wanted it to be Xenon after the noble gas but I made a spelling mistake as a 15 year old does and stuck with it. So I like to think it means Noble and Wise.
Panno Grai'Tal. Panno is a common Dressilian name. That species based its own language off the Bothan language, and as such the last name is two Bothan words. Grai which means Tree, and Tal which means Smith. So Tree Smith. Seeing as he is the Imperial Knights smith, and is proficient in plant surge I found it amusing.

Bedrovelse- Swedish for affliction, pain, suffering, sorrow, and sadness. Basically defines the backstory of this character.
Hevn- Norwegian for revenge. Describes this characters eternal mission.
In my head, I say Hevn like "heaven" without the second e, sort of giving the weird paradox of an evil aligned character using the name "heaven". Bedrovelse is an elaborate and interesting word. Together I thought they made a pretty cool combination of eloquence and mystery, as well as a plain old kick butt Star Wars name.

I liked the sound of Satele and wanted something similar. Then I picked a first name that fit.

"Kel" is a shortened form of my real name (Kyle) that I use almost universally when RPing stuff. "Sentriss" is dervied form the Latin word for judgment with some onomatopeia added in to sound like a snake's hiss.

Altus means high and Dux means ruler In Latin. I was looking for a cool-sounding name during Latin class and grabbed my Latin-to-English/English-to-Latin dictionary. Thus Altus was born.
Fael means wolf in old Irish Gaelic but I got that by accident playing with Sindarin.

OH! And Leigh's name was chosen in-canon. Originally designated LE-03 (Life Emulator Model 03), she chose a name with a similar sound, to make her more human-seeming. Also, because calling her LE sounds too much like Elly (her mom's nickname) and that was sort of creepy.

So I never knew what the name 'Malora' meant. It just sounded pretty to me, so I used it. Just found out it's a name derived from the Latin word meliora, which means 'always improving'. I guess she's one of those people that doesn't fit her name. 'Karana' apparently means a few different things in different languages. I stole it from the book Island of the Blue Dolphins, which was my favorite book as a kid. The word 'pure' seems to come up a lot, no matter the name definition. Another case of a name that doesn't fit the character, here. I did find a blurb about the name Karana on one of these random name etymology websites that sounds legit. It says: "Karana possesses the tools to become an original person with a very creative approach to problem solving, and a penchant for initiating action. Someone may have to follow behind Karana to handle the details, but she knows how to get things going and make things happen. She has no need for supervision, preferring to act on her own with little restraint. Karana is both ambitious and determined. Self-confidence and self-reliance must be hers, as she develops a strong, unyielding will and courage through her convictions. Karana fears routine and fears being in a rut, so she often jumps the gun because she is afraid of being left behind."

Lia is short for 'Aurelia', which means 'golden, gilded'. Corusa is short for 'Coruscani', which is just a fancy variation on the planet Coruscant. It's rumored that the Coruscani family made much of their wealth dealing in rare Corusca gems.

Tali is short for Talia, which means 'dew from God'. Definitely doesn't work here.
Draykon just means 'I have the best last name on JvS and don't you forget it'.

So, the Nedum family actually started with Lux Nedum. Lux is Latin for Light and Nedum is Latin for By No Means. So, the irony of a Stormtrooper's name being essentially light by no means isn't lost on me. (He'd eventually become Project Taeris but that's not really related)
Kir's name was actually inspired by Kir Kanos, the Imperial Guard in Crimson Empire.

Arcanus is latin for hidden or secrets. Since he started out as a masqued Jedi and eventually ended up as an assassin? I'd say that worked out too well.
Gideon Raith, simply started out as a badass name. When I looked into it, turns out Gideon means Destroyer/Mighty Warrior in Hebrew, and Raith was a shortened form of Wraith. A Mighty Warrior Wraith clad in alabaster warplate? Mhmm, I'll take seconds plox.
Now for the grand-daddy of them all. Belial means Worthless in Hebrew.
Surprise!
But it gets even better from there. In the New Testament, someone used the name to label Satan himself before it was later changed to represent an evil angel that loves himself some lawlessness and lusty busty babes. While that was taken into account for his personality, it really struck home when I found out it also belonged to a Prime Evil from the Diablo Universe, the Lord of Lies himself. Everything clicked together, and bam - Belial the Deceiver was born.

Anven was just my sad attempt at making a name right on the spot when trying to make an account for the first time. How I thought of it I honestly do not remember but I just stuck with it despite having made better names since then.
Firestar was me trying to make a Star Wars sounding name so I kinda had Skywalker in mind and so I was thinking thinking and thinking something I am not to incredibly good at and so I started to think of the sun and I like fire so I threw the two words Fire and star together.

VinaaraJa I decided that, as a Togrutan, she needed an Indian name--following in Shaak Ti's foot steps. It's a combination of two Indian names Vina and Raja, with an extra letter (because I like doing that). According to the site I found the names on, Vina means 'musical instrument' and Raja means 'king/queen'. I just liked the names.
Momo A name I chose in honor of Momo from Avatar: The Last Air-Bender, who inspired my choice to make a lurmen.
Nox Kastra I chose Kastra because it's another name for the Capricornus constellation, and I'm a Capricorn. I chose Nox because 'night' is always cool.

I just picked the name Bloodrage because i needed a name that would infer a sense of uncontrollable anger.
I got the name Arkan from 2 sources. Arkan means leader in Arabic and is also the name of this criminal who was one of the most deadly and dangerous people during and period of destabalisation in Yugoslavia. He lead his own paramilitary forces and became a folk hero for the Serbs. This is what I wanted to try and replicate in the Pirates.

Post by Kali Helaine on Jan 7, 2016 9:03:30 GMT -8
I used to have a best friend at school called Kali and truly liked the name. I have just researched the meaning for this thread and found this description of its meaning and am pleased to discover that its meaning fits very well for what I have planned for her character, lol.
The goddess Kali is fierce and destructive. Her name also means "Dark Female". Her worship is associated with skulls, cemeteries, and blood. She is black and gaunt, with an azure face streaked with yellow, and her gaze is considered ferocious. Her hair is shown as unkempt or splayed, and is sometimes braided with serpents. Her power is originative and destructive. The weapons or head of a demon she is usually seen holding symbolize this.
Helaine. Apparently means light. lol. I discovered it by googling names of mythological characters.

I chose Rackham in relation to a pirate by the name of John 'Jack' Rackham or Calico Jack who is famous for the 'Jolly Roger'. He's got the drinking part down but piracy is behind him.
When he did do that, he was the type that would leave you adrift with a chance of being found rather then kill you, if no one showed up it wasn't his problem anymore. I guess i could say he is an anti hero like the real guy. And John is just my real name..
