Shel thought for a moment on what the Emperor had said. Nodding to herself, she knelt before him, face downward and hands touching the cold metal floor of the office. She breathed in and recalled the oath she had sworn when her life began with 'Father' but modified it to better fit the present.
=Shel= I swear this sacred oath that I shall render unconditional obedience to Emperor Nicademus Delvardus, to exercise every power in service to the First Order, and shall, whensoever I am asked, be prepared, as a loyal servant, to surrender my life for this oath.

A rare facial expression changed on the Emperor as his eyebrow went up at the sudden oath given to him by Admiral Hu. Even Baltasar looked at the female curiously. After the oath was spoken, Nicademus steps forward, grabbing hold of her shoulders as an indication that she could rise. Once she had risen, he takes some steps back.
Oaths are a good thing, but they are merely words. The First Order desires loyalty and obedience, but first and foremost, it desires action and results. After all, those speak louder than words. It is why I appointed people to positions they deserved. Because they proved themselves by action.
The Imperial reflects on the decisions involving his Grand Admirals, the Grandmaster of the Knights, and many other appointments.
The First Order gives great respect and potential to those of talent and merit. Give me your loyalty, give me results, and the First Order will always be kind to you in return, Admiral Hu.

Shel gave a humble nod to the Emperor as his hand on her shoulder guided her back up to her feet. She knew this lesson already, otherwise she and her crew would not have pushed themselves so hard in the Unknown. But she knew that in times of doubt and wavering courage, the memory of a sworn oath could inspire and turn ones heart to hope, even in the vast empty void.
=Shel= You are wise to not put all your faith in words, but it was not just for your benefit that I took that Oath. Now I will have this to look back on when the road becomes dangerous and all paths are dark. I renew my oath, so I am no longer bound to dead and fallen Emperor, but to this new and just one. If it is deeds you seek, than place me at the head of an armada and I will use my gift in Battle Meditation to lead our forces to victory, send me back to the void, or do with me as you wish. I am at your disposable, my Emperor.

Battle Meditation, thought the Emperor. He recalled how his former Empress, Illaria Ren, utilized such a technique at the Battle of Dantooine. Other members of the Knights of Ren and the Imperial Knights used this technique as well to instill fervor and discipline within the Stormtroopers that followed them into battle. Admiral Hu would be the first ranking officer within the Imperial Navy to have a proficiency with this technique. It would only enhance his military further.
I have a mind to seek the destruction of various Galactic Alliance Remnants that exist within the galaxy. Imperial Intelligence is still performing necessary tasks in order to gather necessary information, but once they are found, I have every intention of deploying assets to search and destroy them once and for all.
Nicademus was still considering who to send, but that was a matter for another time.
For now, I would request that you enjoy the capital of Muunilinst and have your ships be sent to the nearest shipyards of Yaga Minor or Bilbringi for resupply, rearmament, and necessary upgrades while your crew enjoys some well deserved rest.

Galactic Alliance Remnants? She had much to catch up on it seemed. Though some rest for her and her crew would be welcome. It would give them time to adjust to the new Empire. Giving another bow to the Emperor, Shel took a step back. Absorbing as much about this room as she could, smells, sounds, feelings, and the Force imprints left by those who came before and who are currently standing their. It truly was a cacophony of light and dark mingling together. Many great and terrible acts and decisions had been made here. Acts of war and aggression, but also acts of justice and peace.
=Shel= I will remember your words. And if you need, my contact details are also on that datapad. I will inform my crew that until further notice, they are on shore-leave. But we will be ready when you call.
She would then wait for her escort to take her back to the landing pad and shuttle.

Shortly after Admiral Hu had departed, a new report came to the desk of the Emperor. The culprit behind the encounter on Malastare had been captured. However, what was odd was that the Grand Admiral Needa had not only captured this Lucien, but also desired arrangements for this captured person to meet with the Emperor. If Needa was not as trusted as he was now nor had the authority of his position as Grand Admiral, Nicademus would have likely denied his request. However, the arrangements were approved and necessary measures were made for this meeting.
The hour came as Lucien arrived at the Emperor's suite, escorted by four Imperial Knights and a couple squads of Stormtroopers. The Field Marshal led the way as the captive was brought before the Emperor. This time, Nicademus stood in the center of the room with a pair of Imperial Knights. There was more security within the room though. Lucien was brought forth to the Emperor as the Imperial examines him curiously.
I can see why the Grand Admiral Needa made such arrangements...
It was like looking in a mirror and seeing Needa having shaved off a decades worth of age.
Tell me, Lucien, are you his legitimate or bastard son? The Grand Admiral never spoke of a family in the times we had conversation.

With the barrel of a rifle stabbing into his back, Lucien was herded into the Emperor's office. While he would normally have been impressed with the degree of craftsmanship shown in the creation of such a room, he was far more preoccupied in brainstorming ways to destroy part of the room to escape. The Emperor's curious gaze was met with the defiant, and resolute face of a man who could not care less who he was standing in the presence of.
"Bold question. I'm assuming I don't have a choice in answering?"
The stone-faced Imperial Knights in the room gave him all the answer he needed.
"I don't know. Apparently, I was separated from him at a young age. But that could be a lie, I'm not going to play internal affairs for you."
It was understandable why Garrick might have wanted to conceal the details of his past marriage; it had not ended well for anyone involved. With the deaths of his mother, brother, and sister, along with his own disappearance, Garrick took the fall for it exceptionally hard. He now preferred to bury those memories and pretend none of it had ever happened, instead of remaining resigned to his work. In addition, the circumstances surrounding Lucien's birth were questionable at best, and it was not something Garrick felt needed to be brought up again. Although neither Lucien nor Nicademus were aware of this fact, Garrick had made the decision that it was a piece of information that could be safely overlooked.
"Why am I even here? Aren't you going to send me off to one of your little labor camps? Or better yet, kill me where I stand?"

Nicademus looks at the captive curiously for a moment before moving a little distance away. His gaze looking at the massive holoscreen that showed the planet of Bastion in all its glory. Some wondered why that had not been chosen as the center of the Empire, but rather Muunilinst. However, those who had been with Nicademus since the beginning knew perfectly well as to why. Nicademus then turns to look at Lucien.
I do not see this as the end of your journey, Lucien Needa. In fact, why you stand here is because of your father.
Nicademus nods to his brother, the Field Marshal, who shows Lucien the report sent by the Grand Admiral.
Your father arranged for you to come to me personally and to meet with me. A request I accepted. He had the authority to send you to some forced labor camp or to be killed immediately. It is his right as a Grand Admiral to act on his own from time to time after all. As long as it is within the interests of the First Order.
The Emperor casual walks forward some, pondering for a moment. His gloved hand rubbing his chin slightly.
Seems your father has some care for your future, Lucien. As any father should. Perhaps...
Nicademus looks directly at Lucien.
Perhaps he believes you may be of use to the Empire rather than being executed or sent to work the mines of Mygeeto. Perhaps your father knows you would of better use to the Empire in such a capacity. Perhaps he believes that the talent he possesses was passed onto you and that you have talent that could become an asset to the First Order.

"If he believes I would ever fight for your cause, he must be crazy." He paused for a moment to collect his thoughts before continuing, "I joined the Galactic Alliance because they offered something better. A chance of peace, of order. Now I see I was misguided in that thought. They were too weak to achieve anything. But why would I fight for you, the sworn enemy of my cause, whose ideology I have devoted my entire life to destroying?"
There was more truth to this statement than would first seem. Following the Battle of Mon Cala, Lucien had come to accept that the Galactic Alliance, nor any iteration of it, would ever achieve their goal of galactic peace. But, from what he had seen and heard, the First Order did not even attempt peace. Sacking planets, killing innocents, the list of stories he had heard time and time again went on and on. True, some of them were likely fabricated, but it was unlikely he had been living a lie ever since he had first signed on with the Alliance's military. In addition, after the attack on Theed, any doubt in his mind about the veracity of these stories had been abolished in his mind. Although there were the politicians to consider. They never seemed willing to help anyone, and seemed to have caused the most problems of all.

Nicademus chuckles at the remark by Lucien Needa.
I once accepted a Jedi into the ranks of the Imperial Knights, Lucien, and he has served me well. I accepted a female Admiral who once served the Old Empire into my ranks once more. I have accepted men and women of various conflicting ideologies and at crossroad moments of their life because of their talents and of their merits.
The Emperor slowly puts his hands behind his back, keeping with his usually disciplined posture.
The First Order stands for peace and order. What difference in ideology is there save the methods in which this end goal is sought after? The Galactic Alliance stood for democracy, the First Order for autocracy and authoritarianism. Both stand for the people and their wishes, yet one has representative government and the other has a military regime. What you speak as a difference in ideology I see as a difference in how the end goal is sought after.
Nicademus glances at one of the Imperial Knights who nods his head, affirming something unspoken. So it was true, Lucien Needa had a connection with the Force unlike his father. Was his mother once a Force user or perhaps he was just able to utilize the Force despite having non-Force parents? The Emperor gestures to the First Order's banner that hung proudly within his office.
We welcome those of merit, of ability, of talent, and of determination into our ranks, Lucien. You were determined to fight my men despite the odds, that shows your determination and ability. You are a Force user, which exemplifies your merit and talent. If your father believes you could be of use to me, then I will find that use. The question is, though, would you give your loyalty and devotion to the First Order in return?
Slowly the Emperor approaches.
Your loyalty to the Galactic Alliance shows you can be devoted to a cause. And with one cause dead, your loyalty is without a foundation. So, will you give your loyalty to the First Order as you did to the Galactic Alliance? Because here, your talents will only magnify and prosper greater than that with the defunct Alliance.

Nicademus' point did have merit; both organizations ostensibly had a similar goal. Autocracy may have seemed distasteful, but the fact of the matter was that the Galactic Alliance had fallen into disarray, and now was made up of a number of anarchic Rebels. Rebels who might separate a child from their family for their end goal. And the Sith were nothing but anarchy, not even attempting to persevere under the pretense of order, but rather chaos and destruction. Still, events such as Naboo had left a scar through the integrity of the First Order.
"I will accept your offer, on two conditions. Firstly, explain what happened at Naboo, and how that fits into the idea of preserving order. Secondly, I want permission to search the Imperial archives for records on my family."
Lucien paused for a moment, looking straight at the Emperor with an emotionless face.
"There are some unanswered questions there that I need to understand."

Nicademus gave Lucien a look when he asked about Naboo and made an assumption on the purpose behind the attack. The attack was something that always made the Emperors blood boil. The thought of the culprit behind the attack thinking he could deceive his sovereign and take matters into his own hands. Quietly, the Emperor turns around and activates the recording device on his table, allowing Lucien to hear and even see the holorecording of the conversation that led to the final moments of Director Yularen.
What happened on Naboo was done without my approval. I had been told that it was a simple search and arrest of a smuggler crew that took out a bunker of our soldiers on Dantooine during the attack... Instead matters were taken out of my control and without my approval nor knowledge.
The Emperor pauses to hear the voice and see the image of Director Yularen, seconds before he was executed. The rage of the Emperor was evident when the truth was told, the recording pausing just as the Stormteoopers leveled their blasters to execute the traitor.
He desired to see the Tarking Doctrine return and stood for everything that was against what the First Order stood for. He was executed for deceiving his emperor and for authorizing a most heinous attack on Naboo. His confederates joined him through reprisals that led to them living with dishonor, being executed or send to work as slaves. What happened on Naboo was a traversty but do not think for a moment that I would ever approve such an attack. The First Order stands for ideals that are far better than the barbaric manners of before. We do not seek to rule by the terror of the old.
The recording was ended, the Emperors mood somewhat sour from recalling those events. He takes a moment to regain his mood in order for it to not interfere with the meeting that was going on here. He nods to his brother.
Field Marshal, grant Lucien Needa the authorization to view our archives without interference.
The request was given a nod of approval by the Field Marshal. Nicademus then looks at Lucien.
Your father is stationed at Bilbringi as Grand Moff. If you ever have the desire to see him, he is either there or visits Muunilinst often as well. Welcome to the First Order.

Silence filled the room for a moment after the recording ended, as Lucien recoiled in horror and shock to what had just been revealed to him.
"They... they lied to me. They lied to me and I didn't even realize how far it went. All those years of loyalty... for nothing."
The look of horror on Lucien's face when he heard this news quickly gave way to one of seething rage which matched the one the Emperor wore on his face. He had been lied to. Lied to by his superiors. The attack on Naboo was not the intention of the First Order, but simply the ambition of a single officer, who had been harshly punished for his actions. He had been told the attack was some sort of intentional strike at the civilians on the planet. Worse still, he had been ordered to reciprocate that very lie to his men. If he had been lied to about this, what else had the Alliance lied to him about? How many other stories had been fabricated by the members of the Alliance, meant simply to deceive both the average soldier and the common man alike? What if the entire cause that they claimed they were fighting for was merely a lie, meant to cover up some ugly truth. Who knew what else they had been lying about... or what their plans were for the galaxy at large. The Imperial Knights present would have certainly been able to tell what he was thinking, but one did not need force sensitivity to see the betrayal in Lucien's eyes. Taking a moment to regain his composure, he responded to the Emperor's words.
"The Galactic Alliance was made up of liars. Liars and cheats. Regardless of my previous sentiments towards your organization, it's clear to me now that you as a leader would at least be honest to your soldiers. Something the Alliance's leadership was clearly not. And I would be happy to fight alongside anyone who pledges to exterminate those backstabbers from the galaxy."

Nicademus could tell that Lucien was convinced by the truth before his feet. Naboo was viewed as a travesty, even by the First Order. The reported intentions for why an Imperial warship over Naboo was sent had been a lie to the Emperor. He still recalled seeing the holofootage of the bombardment of Theed Palace and the report of chemical agents being released into the city, all called mistakes by the culprit. A forked tongue snake who attempted to deceive his ruler. Nicademus would not be made a fool and ensured the ambitious officer was given his due punishment. The First Order was not the Old Empire nor would it ever be.
The Galactic Alliance is already defeated, Lucien. Yet, there are still enemies in the galaxy. Serve the First Order and you will be rewarded for your dedication, your loyalty, and your talents. Though you are the son of a noted Grand Admiral, here, you can stand out as your own person and not live in another's shadow. Here, you can thrive and be your own man under the banner of a true government that seeks peace and stability.
Nicademus glances at the banner of the Empire before returning his gaze back to Lucien.
For now, go and do what you must involving your personal matters. We can speak another time of where you would be best placed in the Empire.
Nicademus gestures to the Imperial Knights that flanked Lucien. They proceed to remove the stun cuffs off of Lucien.

Ona was somewhat nervous. She had been called to the Emperor's office with seemingly no reason or rhyme, as she had not interacted with the man before, nor taken part in anything that could be considered 'meritorious service'. Quite frankly, she had done nothing out of the ordinary as opposed to her normal routine, which made this all the more nerve-wracking. As she approached the grand doors to the office, two stormtroopers took her aside, confiscating her blaster pistol as well as her communicator, and checked her code cylinders to make sure she had proper clearance to enter. After a moment, the lock flicked green and the portal into the space beyond the door opened up.
Dressed in her standard Imperial uniform, the young Veed looked ready to meet such an important figure as the Emperor. Her metal cuffs had been shined to a fault, and her durasteel breastplate looked about as ceremonial as it ever could. Her rank plaque had been meticulously cleaned, and her uniform had been ironed such that no flaws could appear in the grey fabric.
Stepping into the office, Ona looked to her left and right. It certainly was a grand space, and one of the most unique she had seen as well. Even throughout planetary invasions of the most luxurious, grand worlds, she had never been in a space that was quite like this. Folding her arms behind her back, she noted the large window that seemed to overlook the city. Upon closer inspection, however, she realized it was not a window, but instead a holoscreen that took up the entirety of the back of the room. Stepping further in, she nearly jumped as the door sealed behind her in a sudden manner. She had never been quite on edge like this before, in spite of the number of dangerous situations she had voluntarily exposed herself to over the years. At least there she knew she was in control. Here, however, whatever control she had was stripped away, and seemed to funnel towards one point in the room. The very farthest point of the balcony-like structure of the office. At that point of the room was a desk, and behind the desk, she saw a shock of red hair. Hair that could only belong to one person in the Empire.
Taking a deep breath, she spoke authoritatively enough that the man could hear her.
"You wanted to see me, sir?"

The Emperor was not alone at the time. At the time, Nicademus was speaking with a couple members of Imperial High Command, their insignia matching up with their ranks that were far superior to Rear Admiral Ona Veed. Although, it may be a familiar sight, considering that the once proud and capable Morlish Veed held such high positions long ago. The Imperial's gaze notices the arrival of Veed, wrapping up his conversation with the officers and proceeding to dismiss them. Afterward, Nicademus did some noting on a datapad before rising from his seat to come and speak with the woman he had called for.
I have been told of your rather diligent service. It mirrors that of Morlish Veed, some say.
Nicademus never knew the man but all of the Imperial community knew of the High Admiral who fought against the Galactic Alliance, wielded great power within the renewed Empire, and remained a top commander for two Emperors. At that moment, the Emperor turns slightly, activating a holoprojector that revealed the recently constructed TIE Demolisher, whose credit went to both Garrick Needa and Ona Veed.
The Grand Admiral tells me you had quite a hand on the design of this new bomber. Tell me, what made you think that the First Order Navy needed such a craft? Our navy still utilizes the TIE Bomber/sa, the Neutralizer-class, and the Scimitar after all.

Ona sighed. There it was again, her grandfather. Always following her like a shadow. She always had wanted to be recognized as something beyond her father, made famous by her own achievements rather than her family name. She had served diligently, but this was, in effect, in the intention of being remembered by the sweat of her own brow. Staying perfectly still, she nodded her head.
"Thank you, sir."
However, it could have been worse. At least she knew that she had not been called to the office for something she had done wrong, which set her at least somewhat at ease. Some of the tension in her back vanished, now knowing that this conversation was not a reprimand for something she had done wrong. Though she was still nervous and was tempted to look about for the exits to the room. However, it would not do to show fear in front of someone like him. Not to mention the fact that a large part of Imperial High Command was here, including the man she had worked with on some recent starfighter projects. If high command saw her in a nervous state, it would be likely that whatever chance she had to get a promotion and pursue her interests would be dashed to pieces in a meeting that was seemingly meant to congratulate her for something she had done. It would have been almost painfully ironic.
However, she could not have anticipated the question the Emperor asked next, nor could she have anticipated that the Demolisher was brought up in the first place. It was currently all the rage in Imperial circles, with several Admirals giving up the use of their older bombers for the new variant. She had Garrick to thank for that. Were it not for his combat expertise, she would never have been able to create the fighter that she did.
"Well, sir, it was rather simple. With the existence of bombers such as the K-Wing and B-Wing among our enemies, I felt it necessary to create a heavy bomber to match it. However, rather than slow strikes, it was designed for rapid response. The tide in the galaxy is changing, and we need to be able to react to threats quickly, and with a large amount of force. While the other bombers the order use have either the capability to hit hard or react quickly, none have the blend of both that is the demolisher. That, I suppose, was the methodology behind its creation."

Nicademus listens to the insight of Veed, having read the reports of the early designs and the finished product. Garrick Needa had the combat experience to ensure the bomber was made right while Ona Veed had the mind to craft such a spacecraft. This wasn't the first time the Grand Admiral had been involved in some creation for the First Order. Before the Demolisher came the Autarch-class Star Destroyer, a powerful warship that was considered a mini Resurgent and an third variant of the Imperial Star Destroyer line. Although the Emperor did not use that warship, he had already seen it being used by other fleets.
You are right to assume that with the galaxy changing, we need to be able to react to threats quickly. Though the Galactic Alliance is gone, there are many enemies that we cannot see now or are forming in various corners of the galaxy. A war with one nation may be over, but another is rising. We cannot allow our progress to slow down just because we cannot see our foe as we did with the Galactic Alliance.
Nicademus motions to one of the members of Imperial High Command. He approaches Ona Veed, revealing a small box that contained the insignia of a Vice-Admiral's rank. The Emperor looks at Ona after she took in the sight of the insignia.
The Grand Admiral wrote a rather colorful picture in his report of your dedication and expertise. In light of the TIE Demolisher's creation, I believe it is wise to promote you to the rank of Vice-Admiral in recognition of this achievement. I do look forward to what you will make next for the First Order, Ona Veed.

The path remained clear in her mind as she walked the halls of the Imperial Command. It was strange to think how well her memory was of this place. It kind of felt like she never left. It took all she had, though, to keep her mind focused and off the past and on the moment.
That seemed to fail as the doors to Nicademus’s office appeared before her. She remembered that night, which caused her to freeze. Her gaze fell and her body started to shake slightly. Was it really still an issue for her? Had she never grown up and gotten over it? If that was how she was going to be, what was the point of it all? No, she couldn’t let that past bind her down. Taking a deep breath, she moved forward.
The guards standing there moved to the side as she approached, having been made aware of her arrival. Swallowing a final time, she crossed the threshold into the office.

It was a relatively silent journey from the landing platform to the office of the Emperor. Relatively being that there was uniformed steps of the Stormtroopers and the Praetorians present that marched in file, in step, and in unison. The Field Marshal approaches the doorway to the Emperor's suite, raising his hand to the Stormtroopers present. They approached Baltasar and took his key card, sliding it on a datapad, before handing it back. The door was opened and Baltasar led Anya within, the two Praetorians followed suit.
Within these chambers, there was the presence of the Imperial Guard, the Imperial Knights, and these new Praetorians. The straight causeway down from the entrance to the main area of the suite was, again, silent. They entered the more open area soon enough. The Praetorians peeling away and taking their respective spots by the doorway. Baltasar continues his journey forward to where the Emperor was reviewing a galaxy map. Anya would definitely sense that Nicademus was both the same diligent ruler, but a changed man within. Those answers came relatively quickly with two facts.
The first being that the dark presence of Illaria Ren, the Emperor's mistress back then, was no longer within the suite. There were slight echoes here and there, but overall, Illaria was nowhere and had vanished. The second fact came when a door opened and the sounds of two small children were heard rushing out. A little boy and girl, no more than seven years old, rushed out with the boy chasing the girl. Baltasar halted as the children approached Nicademus from behind, causing the Emperor to turn and greet them. Nicademus had become a father in the eight years since Anya had left and, from the looks of it, they were twins. Octavian and Fiora were happy to see their father after their Lightsaber Basics today. Soon, Fiora would go to Prakith or the Tower of the Ren to begin her training with her mother's people while Octavian was set to join the ranks of the Imperial Knights as a trainee.
Octavian noticed his Uncle Baltasar who stood with a strange woman. He tugs on his father's sleeve, Nicademus seemed to still be wearing his officer's uniform as always. He then quietly points to where his uncle stood. This caused the Emperor to look up and see Anya standing behind his brother. Slowly, the Imperial stood up, motioning to Baltasar.
Baltasar, mind taking the children away for a moment? Seems I have business to attend to.
=Baltasar= Of course, Your Majesty. Come along, Octavian and Fiora. Show me what your mentors taught you today.
The Imperial offers his hands to his nephew and niece as they came over and walked away. Both of the children waving goodbye to their father. Nicademus watches them go away, turning back to the console for a moment once they had departed. The Imperial moves the datapad quietly, causing a slight metallic tapping that went on for a few seconds. Then he keys the holoprojector, turning it off for now.
What do you think of them?
Nicademus inquires as he moves towards Anya, passing by her to hand the datapad to an aide.
Octavian is to join the Imperial Knights soon. I hope to see Grandmaster Faina or Brock Ferrum be his master and make him an exemplar among their ranks... a true and proper heir to the Empire he will one day rule. If only his mother could see those days like I will.
