==Hapes Raid SL== <<107 PP; O9 Sector, Hapes>>
Tally realized that the rescue had not gone to plan when more reinforcements began arriving outside the door. However, by that time the copy teams had manage to pull the data from all the various towers. Even with the setbacks of the occasional shot slipping in through the cracked door. This was reinforced by the shuddering boom that shook the entire building. Most likely, that had been their ride out.
-Tally Time for a new plan.
Pulling out one of the commlinks he had looted from a dead guard, he patched it into his datapad. He was sheltering so that the door itself was blocking any incoming fire. After that, he began hooking the data modules into the datapad. While the download speed had been restricted by the bulky programs in use by the data towers, the datapad had a discrete program on it that would compress the files an incredible amount.
Within moments, the commlink began squawking out a data-rich hash of static. Anyone with a halfway competent decompression software suite would be able to unpack the info, assuming they had managed to record it in the first place. While this wasn't nearly as discrete as the original plan, it was a nice fail safe. Anyone within ten kilometers with a passive sensor would be able to get the entire data packet. On top of that, the hash would drown out any other signal, short of a dedicated capital ship broadcast within that same area. Setting it to loop a few hundred times, Tally prepared for the next step. Getting them out. He took a blaster pistol in each hand & stacked up behind the door, still protected by its bulk. He couldn't fire very accurately with a pistol in each hand, but with the number of targets, accuracy wouldn't be the main issue.
-Tally Enemy comms are disrupted for roughly the next two minutes. The data is safe. But we are going to have to fight our own way out of here if we want out.

Checking the remaining charge in his blaster rifle's power cell, having discarded the blaster pistol he had been using when it's cell was depleted, Lorcan grouses sulkily, "Oh, is that all? Sounds easy enough," after Tally has informed them all that the new plan calls for them to fight their way past the impressively large number of hostiles that have all but trapped them in the cold room to freedom.
Grinning as she rolls her neck from side, Fionnuala brings her blaster rifle into a high ready position as she tells Lorcan, "Quit your whining already, where's the fun in having things go too smoothly, right?"
Ignoring the banter between his younger brother and Fionnuala, Faelan begins to strafe the hall outside from right to left with blaster pistol fire as he calls out to Tally and the others, "Get ready! On three! Rising while continuing to fire on their foes, Faelan maintains his covering fire as he lifts a hand to hover over the control panel that will open the doors. Upon reaching the three count, Falean slaps the button and opens the cold room doors, dropping into a crouch to provide covering fire as, firing on their foes all the while, Lorcan, Fionnuala and Tally all burst into the hall to begin the fight to make it outside of the building . . .

The fire of the Hapan Guards was interrupted for a few moments as they fumbled with their comm links to turn them off as the lines were jammed up by the interference. The guards re positioned themselves further back as the Mandalorians broke free of the data stack room, hoping to get better angles. But at the same time, creating some avenues for the intruders to get through, should they be able to capitalize on them. The stream of reinforcements thinned as the last of the gunships not engaging the rouge vessels emptied out.
The last of the incoming troops spread throughout the building as both defence and search teams. Looking to seek out any other potential Mandalorians that might be in the building, while doing their best to keep those within from escaping. A task made more difficult by the firefight taking place between the gunships

Life on Hapes carried on as normal, uninterrupted by the Queen's decision to join the Corellian Coalition.

Galanis Family Estate
As she and Deianeira make their way back to her shuttle after meeting with the family of a potential suitor that had been murdered by a quartet of Bartokk assassins undoubtedly hired by another noble house with a son they hope will be selected as her consort, Nalea tells Deianeira in a tone equal parts angry and disheartened, "Have Nephele, the commanding officer of the Chume'doro's Forensics Division, assign someone to this at once, sighing as she reaches up with her left hand to rub her temples and adds, We will not reward whichever noble house is behind this tragedy by taking their son as Our consort."
"At once, Ereneda, Deianeira says, taking her comlink from a pouch on her sword belt to carry out the Queen Mother's request immediately. Once Nephele has been apprised of the Ereneda's wishes, Deianeira walks up the H-2 executive shuttle's boarding ramp beside Naela as she says, Neph will send her best . . ."
Lifting a hand to silence the Favored that serves as her personal bodyguard, in no mood for any more conversation after having consoled the unfortunate potential suitor's parents for the death of their only son and seeing that they appeared more distraught that they had no chance of gaining her favor through their son's station than they were by his death, Nalea makes her way to the shuttle's lounge and rests her chin in her hand as she looks out of viewport pensively. Having thought that by not taking a consort she would prevent any of the assassination attempts that are often a part of the noble houses’ attempts to gain power and prestige, Nalea cannot help feeling partly responsible for the senseless death of the prospective suitor. If she had, Nalea cannot help but think, taken a suitor, they would be at the Palace now, and under the protection of the Chume'doro; though it would not stop any assassination attempts, at least such attempts would be made against a known target rather than being potentially made against any number of them. Sighing as she closes her blue eyes and rubs them as though it could remove the image of the slain prospective suitor - Milos, his name comes to her - from her memory, Nalea thinks that she will have to make settling on a consort a higher priority than she has, if only to prevent any future deaths that would result from over ambitious noble houses maneuvering to gain the advantage having their son in the position would afford them. It seems selfish to her to prolong the search for a consort when the truth of the matter is she will be unhappy with any suitor she decides upon, and Nalea learned by watching the previous Queen Mother when she herself was a Chume'doro in service to the Ereneda that it is at times necessary to sacrifice one's own contentment in order to serve their people.
It was while serving and watching over Queen Mother Emelie Ka - her birth-mother, a fact Nalea knew only after the woman she had worshiped as all Hapans worship the Ereneda had died and revealed her true heritage in her will - that Nalea came to understand the role of Queen Mother could be something akin to a gilded prison; duty to the citizens of the Consortium coming always before all else and demanding, if one wanted to truly serve their people, becoming more akin to the goddess they were treated as than a mere individual with dreams or desires of their own, for, like a goddess, the Ereneda needs to be above such distractions if they are to unselfishly lead their people to the best of their abilities. Nalea wonders if Emelie had a subtle, hidden hand in her choosing to join the Hapan Royal Navy and, later, the Chume'doro, both positions that not only allowed her to see first hand what is required to defend and lead the Consortium, but which were also other examples of sacrificing of oneself for the greater good - what better way was there for Emeile to instill in her hidden daughter those qualities and values to prepare Nalea for her future role?
Sighing and accepting what must be done, Nalea asks Deianeira somberly, "Suitor 19, whom she is to meet with the following afternoon if she is not mistaken, what do you know of them?"
Deianeira, looking puzzled as it is not only the first time the Ereneda has expressed even the slightest hint of interest in her suitors, but also because she herself knows the reasons for Nalea's disinterest as they have known one another since they began serving in the Chume'doro many years ago, replies, "Vasileios Bouras is the eldest of three sons, Ereneda. His family is an old one, but has never been particularly influential as they are mostly luthiers or . . ."
"Very good, Nalea tells Deianeira, thinking it is, if nothing else, highly unlikely that Vasileios' family had been involved in the assassination attempt that has led her to accept the need to take on a consort as soon as possible, adding in a resigned tone, See that Our schedule is cleared for the morning and afternoon please," and then resumes looking broodingly out of the viewport as the shuttle continues on towards the Fountain Palace.

Bouras Family Villa
Fussily adjusting the collar of her son's tunic, Ariadne Bouras asks Vasileios in a worried tone matching her expression, "Are you sure you want to go through with this dear? After what happened to poor Milos last night I just . . ."
Entering the kitchen with Vasileios' utility belt, a holstered blaster on one side and a sheathed sword and dagger on the other, in one hand and a beautifully crafted Hapan lute in the other, Konstantinos cheerily tells his wife, "Ah, now, our boy is not going to be deterred by a few bugs, patting Vasileious heartily on the back as he asks rhetorically, Are you, lad? Winking as he hands his son the utility bolt, he adds in a hushed voice, Best keep these handy all the same, eh?"
Shaking her head as she starts fussing with Vasileios' hair, Ariadne sighs and tells her son, "Remember, no taking any food from strangers, you know how often poison is . . ."
Waving his wife away, Konstantinos says, "He knows, love, he knows, smiling as reassuringly as he can as he pats Vasileios' head and thinks of all the things they had warned him about when their son decided to throw his hat into the proverbial ring even though they had warned him of the dangers it would invite. Many noble houses all but demand their eldest sons try and court the Queen Mother in order to gain influence and power, but Konstantinos and his wife have always been content with what they have, and so had, while not understanding precisely why their son wanted to court the Ereneda, supported his decision despite their worry for him. Handing the lute he had finished crafting last night to Vasileios, Konstantinos says proudly, It may not be as costly a gift as the jewels or gowns the other suitors have given her, but I think it is safe to say that it will bring her many more hours of joy . . ."
Ariadne crinkles her nose as she asks, "Does the Ereneda even play the lute, nia'n cor? Turning to Vasileios, she suggests, Perhaps you could teach her to play, or compose a sonnet for her? Fussing with the collar of her son's tunic again, she reminds him, Now, remember to ask about her, not talk about yourself or our family's . . ."
Laughing, Konstantin says, "He knows all that, love, winking at Vasileios as he adds, You've told him often enough, and then shoos her away and says, Now let him finish eating his breakfast, he has a big day ahead."
Sitting down at the table and helping himself to some of the Ikotch toast his wife prepared after serving some out for her, Konstantin adds some Ettel nuts to the toast as he asks Vasileios, "When will you be meeting with the Ereneda? Do you want me to pilot you there? Miming aiming and shooting a blaster, he jokes, I may not be as handy with a blaster as you are, but I think I'd be able to hold off any bug things that might come after you all the same."

Vasileios, or Vasil as how his younger brothers would call him, or whatever diminutive of his name, always liked when his mother fussed over him, she was attentive and caring, status was never a big thing for their family, not throughout the years they had established themselves here on Hapes. He always respected his mother's teachings, even his father's, and was just grateful to have been raised just like his brothers in a loving, and just overall pleasant atmosphere.
Indeed they were part of the Noble elite but it never did define them as a whole, they often kept to themselves, and this time around well it might have been a long shot, but Vasil just wanted to show that all Hapans, even male deserved to be treated with respect as well and not just second class citizens. That was a long overdue sentiment that he felt should change, and he was just tired when others of the Elite would look down on him and his family because his father had not fathered a daughter either.
Plus, he also had to admit that one of his old friends, well... Even if they didn't belong in the same strata, he admired what the man had become and even had the galls to get away from here, even moreso his sister who he had never met but knew enough how much love and respect bound the siblings.
"I'll be just fine, Ta'a Smiling to reassure her, or at least trying to do so, Vas turned to look at his father when he walked in seeing the lute that had been made. It's truly remarkable, Father, truly one of the best pieces you have made." As a lute player as well, he admired the simple beauty and elegance of the instruments made by his Father, and even though just like his Mother, his Father didn't know why Vas had thrown in his name to court the Ereneda, Vas was just trying to be hopeful, and maybe this was an opportune time for change.
Everyone in the Consortium knew that the current Ereneda had rightfully succeeded the previous one, however apparently she had been hidden at first. The politics and everything that went with those, Vas stayed out of it, or at least tried and just lived a happy life in the comfort of his home, but even if he was part of one of the Noble Houses, Vas somewhat was still protected so to speak in a way, and that way was to not make any waves, not catch anyone's attention but always be on guard, no matter what.
"If there is one thing that I have learned from my parents, it was to always pay attention and show interests in others, and never brag, nor try to be something we are not. Vas repeated the somewhat maxim of their family before just resuming to eat somewhat at ease even though he knew that him throwing his name in that proverbial hat could bring some trouble for his family, but at least he and his brothers had been trained to shoot, and also knew how to handle swords. I should be meeting the Ereneda in two hours time, and I'll be fine piloting there, father, I am sure that you have other pieces to make." He was thankful that his father did want to accompany him but he also knew that Konstantinos had rushed this piece so it was made in time to be gifted...

"Of course you will dear, Ariadne tells her son when he assures her that he will be just fine despite all of the perils she can so easily imagine he might face, and then pats his cheek affectionately as she tells him, Now eat up and maybe think about composing that sonnet . . ."
Laughing and shaking his head, Konstantinos tells his wife, "Let him go about it in his own way, love, then gently suggests, If you stop pestering him with advice he just might have a chance to eat before he needs to leave. Nodding towards the Hapan lute sitting on a chair beside Vasileios, he tells his son in a grateful tone, It means a lot to me that you think it some of my finest work, thank you. I hope it brings you as much good fortune as it brought me joy to craft."
"Very flowery, father, Takis, the youngest of Konstantinos' sons, tells his father after entering the kitchen with a yawn, then smirks as he tells Vasil, You should borrow that line when you court the Queen Mother, Vas, sitting down and reaching for some of the toast as he says, I mean, women love that kind of fancy talk, right? Digging into his Ikotch toast, Takis playfully jokes, It really should be me, of course, Vas may have the muscles, but I have always been better with words."
"I think you are a bit too young for the Ereneda, pet," Ariadne tells Takis.
Shrugging, Takis grins as he says, "But I am so much prettier, and what is age but a number anyway? Waving a hand to indicate he is done teasing, Takis tells Vasil, Best of luck, brat, I'm sure once she has a look at you and sees what beautiful babies you can make together she will send out the word that Suitors 20 and on are no longer needed. Winking he adds, Feel free to borrow my beautiful babies line."
Outside
"All inside still?" Grigorios Samaras - suitor 20 - asks as he opens the engine compartment of Vasileios' airspeeder and peers inside.
"Coast is all clear, Grig, Lampros Gatakis tells his best friend, leaning against the side of the airspeeder and keeping an eye on the villa's front entrance. I still think this is unnecessary though. I mean, he's the son of a luthier and you're the son of one of Hapes' finest and wealthiest jewelers. No one's as slick as you, Grig, or as quick, and everyone knows there's no man on Hapes half as manly . . ."
"I know, Grig says humbly as he disables the airspeeder's brakes, then closes the engine compartment and strikes a heroic pose as he says, But my dear Mum taught me never to leave anything to chance. Brushing some dust from the lapels of his coat, he nods his impressively square jaw towards his own airspeeder and says, Let's be off, that should take care of the luthier's son," and then struts off to his speeder and sets off.

Eating as instructed, Vas wasn't one to skip on food, and he was always thankful that they had food on the table, and even just had these moments together as a family. "Don't worry about the sonnet, Ta'a, I am sure that I can come up with one at the opportune time, I would not want the Ereneda just to see me as a lute player too..." Vas might not have been that bright, but he knew enough at least to know that if he went for it straight away without the Queen Mother's say so that might be a strike one in his favor for her to cross him out entirely. He would see how his day went with her, and will potentially just adapt to the situation.
"Of course, Father you do deserve the compliment. Vas told him humbly, their family might not been an influential one, but they did get by and music in any forms was also where their joy came from, at least he always enjoyed some music, and he hoped that indeed the Ereneda did as well. Looking up when one of his brothers had walked in, Takis, always the jokester, and he always liked the exchanges he had with any of his siblings honestly, even it from afar it looked like they seem to always be competing, Vas never saw it that way, they were just men being men and that was it. Let me meet her first, Takis, maybe she isn't into those sort of things." Shrugging nonchalantly Vas did not know what to expect truly and he preferred to go there with an open mind at least. He was going to court the Queen Mother yes, and like everyone else he considered her like a Goddess but at the same time she was also just a being like everyone else.
Smiling at his brother's words, Vasil inclined his head gratefully. "Te'ta'xida, brat, and I will not borrow your beautiful babies line at all, at least not until I know I do have a chance. Laughing and finishing his breakfast altogether, Vas stood up and pecked his mother's cheek before walking over to his father hugging him, then ruffling his brother's hair. I should best be going, would not want to be late getting to Ta'a Chume'Dan." Grabbing his utility belt with the blaster, Vas secured that around his waist before taking a deep breath and grabbing the lute his father had crafted...
Stepping outside of the residence, Vas blinked a few times looking at his airspeeder, and somehow at that moment there, words echoed in his mind from one of his old friends. Getting into his airspeeder, Vas checked the board, and noticed that the breaks seemed to have been disabled. Not wanting to make a big deal out of it, especially after he checked the dash cam and noticed who was there, Vas sighed in annoyance, so it began... Stepping out of his airspeeder again, Vas went over to the engine compartment and re enabled the breaks that had been disabled. "Not today..." Muttering under his breath, Vas figured that he would just report that jewelers' son, maybe, and perhaps he had a stake on Milos' murder. Though he actually first wanted to see the face of Grigorios, and his reaction...
Not wanting to delay this further, after checking once more his airspeeder, he silently thanked Nash who had often reminded him to always check everything before using it as he was the eldest son of a Noble house. Vas wished he could meet that Chume'doro again, and perhaps he would but for now he was definitely going to head to his destination to meet the Ereneda, and he made sure that the lute was securely placed by his side.
