Located at the lower floor of the Academy, several training rooms that were suited for lightsaber duel training, hand to hand combat and Force powers training. Each rooms were equipped with droid combats and any other necessities needed. The presence of the mist in these rooms was also possible upon command.

Breathlessness that had been the only sound emanating from them both. Face to face, fists clenched time seemed to be at a standstill currently. The only sound; breathlessness . . .
Standing upright again after bringing her left foot next to her right, Mace relented and let her muscles relax while letting her adrenaline drop. She certainly knew that she would be one big walking bruise the next day, but she didn’t care at all. For everything that was happening here on this planet, and off world, she just knew that preparation was going to be futile but she still had to keep in shape one way or the other. “Thank you for this, Ayla . . .” Said Mace in a low tone, wincing slightly from the shooting pain of mere talking.
Looking at her cousin, Mace smiled faintly before shrugging nonchalantly, for this training session, it wasn’t about a show of Force powers or lightsaber combat, it was just a mere martial arts training. ‘Mere’? If one wanted to put it as such, it was never just but a mere training when it came to them both. This was actually just one of those times when they could train peacefully.
“Glad I could be of service,” Inclining her head and closing her eyes briefly, Ayla growled from that sensation of having her shoulder dislocated. “Though, I’d rather have Kes in this current position right now . . .” Glancing at her shoulder and looking back at Mace meaningfully, she just saw her cousin advancing towards her and feeling Mace’s hand on her shoulder to reset it. Ayla prevented herself from growling loudly.
“What makes you think that Kes isn’t going through that with Lyn . . .?” Asked Mace wryly before hearing a faint chuckle on the side, she looked in that direction and gestured to where Horsea was leaning against the wall there.
“Please don’t say it or think it, Aestrea.”
Lifting both of her hands in surrender, Horsea pushed away from the wall and walked in the cousin’s direction. “I wasn’t even going to,” Noticing the arched eyebrows of the cousin, Horsea shrugged and held a folder up filled with flimsiplast. “I have looked into it, as per your request, and concerning the Vice-Governor’s request to meeting you when you are able . . .”
“I shall get to that when he is less busy,” That at least answered the second part of Horsea’s statement, as Mace opened the folder and looked at the written report. Sighing softly before closing that said folder, Mace looked at her cousin, and shook her head. “The more I look into these things, the more it is giving me a headache . . .”
“Then perhaps it is time to hail Solaris?” Suggested Ayla thoughtfully as she tried to move her shoulder but it still hurt and she looked at Mace once more before adding on, “We are all treading into dangerous territory and what is happening here on Umgul currently, was the last thing we nee— . . .”
Lifting her hand to stop her cousin from going further, Mace just knew where that was going to lead anyways and she didn’t want to rattle that matter further. She was quite aware that this situation was going to blow, and the repercussions could already be felt, at least from what she had seen insofar, the population was divided and Mace was certain that those she really knew were guilty of would be careful in the future. “No, I am not going to comm Virgil,” Said Mace thoughtfully as she gestured towards the training room’s exit. “And you know why? Because I am certainly tired of running after people and asking them to make things right. Is it even too much to ask to just gather them altogether and have a heart to heart talk?” Rhetorical question, and one that Mace certainly knew wasn’t going to happen overnight, and right now there was still that no man zone between Raan and the Vyridian brothers.
How delightful!
“Perhaps you won’t even need it, latest status report of private spaceships that have landed; Ares Solaris has been identified.” Horsea informed Mace thoughtfully. “He is not alone . . .”
“Ask for a Solaris, and the other comes, it won’t be long for the patriarch . . .”
“Mmmm, speaking of patriarch . . .”
“Honoros knows that Forcias has left the planet with the Lieutenant . . .” Having heard that tongue lash from her brother, Horsea closed her eyes momentarily and took a deep breath before glancing at the cousins, obviously they would know what she had been thinking right then and there, all that exchange that was more a one sided conversation truly, but how they turned out to be so divided this way, it was just unheard of. She still couldn’t believe that her brother would even do that, of course Forcias wasn’t their flesh and blood but that did not mean that she did not consider him like her own brother too.
“Stop, Horsea, I will deal with that matter, and it’ll be over my dead body.” Said Mace seriously but also placidly stopping right in front of the door that would lead the three of them out of this training room, she returned the folder to Horsea and looked at her cousin. “Get that fixed.” Gesturing to Ayla’s shoulder, Mace then turned to look at the Director of Intelligence. “Bury that for now and don’t bring it up again, not until we have all of them together. Eleuabad will have to wait . . . Especially what is inside.”
Finally stepping out of the training room, Mace pulled her datapad out from its holder and started typing an encrypted message to Andros concerning that situation he was facing, he was of course free to contact her whenever and she’d be there when possible. Finally storing her datapad back into its designated place, Mace secured her white cloak around her neck and outfitted her hands with gloves with in mind to head first to the infirmary and later perhaps potentially at least greet those that would stay here at the Academy for a while . . .

"What you have to understand, this isn’t a Force power to be used lightly nor you will be able to access it easily." Said Ayla looking at the older students of the Academy. Most of them were humans with a few other sentient beings. "If I have gathered you here today, because it was time, and you have been asking me to show you the application of this."Ayla Vos, one of the Mist Order Councilors but also still held her rank within the Kiffu Guardians that were still planetside, wasn’t wearing her traditional Jedi garment that was that black color. Today, she was just sporting a black military uniform that had the markings of both her clan’s marking and the Order’s markings. Her hair was tied up in a ponytail and had not gone back to the typical dreadlocks Kiffars usually sported. The difference here nonetheless, she had not been alone in this training room, and perhaps that the students had noticed that, or perhaps not at all since the mists were very present in the room. The three people standing behind her usually had their Force signatures hidden by their lightsaber crystal. Earlier though while she had been guiding the students to be aware of their surroundings and to connect with one another via their affinity, and their bond, Ayla had felt the presence of Atlantis, which caused her to briefly smile before she heard that fleeting thought from Horsea. I have a feeling that this is going to be a gathering of some sort. Had been Horsea’s thought before Mace chuckled lowly under her breath, being just like her cousin, Ayla, one of the telepaths of the Order. Forcias Kes, the ace pilot of the group, had that dubious expression on his feature not that it could be noticed by anyone as the mists were entirely covering the room. However, he had been the one to activate all the droids that were now located in the room, which surrounded the students as a whole. Let's get this done, Atlantis isn't alone at all. Mace thought out soon enough telepathically though made it a private transmission solely to the Kiffars being present here. "Just do not move at all, any of you." Ayla indicated with a commanding but still placid tone before she closed her eyes and increased her awareness to the Force and as she did that, she had felt soon enough being joined by her closest friends, her family, the people she shared the strongest bond with. One by one Horsea’s, Forcias’ and Mace’s presences had been revealed joining the mind meld that Ayla began to call upon. The Kiffars had heard a few gasps when the students had realized that there were more masters this time around, and soon all of their signatures melded together to be as one under Ayla’s anchoring. The reason Ayla had called upon their assistance was simple enough. Mace had the strongest knowledge when it came to Electric Judgment, or even Ionizing. Horsea was the one with a heightened Force sense, considering that she was the one who was the expert tracker of the group, and with that came exactly seeing the deadspots on where to hit. Forcias the ace pilot but also the techie out of them exactly knew how to disable droids. Drawing on all of their knowledge, thanks to the fact that their minds melded as one, Ayla accessed easily their knowledge without any barriers whatsoever in finding exactly where she would have to aim and redirect the stream of electricity enhanced by the mists by only targeting the droids present in the room, and thus avoid all the students present. Her Force signature combined with the others increased exponentially until the deae was done. Several clinkering on the floor could be heard while she slowly released her hold to the melding she had called upon. Walking over to the side to press a button to dissipate the mists, Ayla waited a moment until all of their views were unobstructed and she looked at the students peacefully. "I don't need to introduce to you the ones herewith present here who kindly assisted me to this demonstration." Ayla gestured to the three people behind her with a knowing smile. All the students in this Academy knew who Mace was, she was one of the Mist Order Councilors as well, and from time to time indeed, either she or Ayla requested Forcias assistance, or Horsea when they of course could, for a few classes here. "I trust them all, and we have unwavering ties that allowed what you have just felt in order to disable all of those droids that we couldn't see, to begin with."Looking at Horsea, Forcias and Mace, Ayla inclined her head as a thanks notifying them that she no longer needed their assistance and if they needed, they could take their leave. They understood clearly and nodded before looking at the students warmly. Both Horsea and Forcias bowed to them before making their way to the exit of the training room as Mace lingered a little while longer. You have felt it too, I suppose . . . Asked Mace thoughtfully before noticing her cousin blinking once, until she turned her attention to the students and inclined her head in their direction. There was one thing that had to be known about Mace and Ayla, often times their communications weren’t verbal, their innate powers allowed them to read each other’s mind, and throughout that force meld, there was that lingering thought that occurred, which Mace knew she had to address sooner or later with the concerned party, but for now, they had other things to discuss, and also welcome someone in the process. "Horsea, Forcias, please stay a moment, and follow me." Requested Mace as she made her way with the two of them towards the garden where she knew Atlantis might be located with someone they were all unfamiliar with, though something told her that potentially Atlantis would find their presence here as well as a fortuitous coincidence . . .

The day after... Smaller training room
It wasn't unheard of that often times Crystal would be here, if she wasn't jogging around the lakehouse property that she still owned. It also wasn't unheard of that she would be here to cook for the younglings, and all the people residing in the Academy because it allowed for her mind to be occupied if she wasn't working. Today, she just wanted to get some training done here, and usually she would have done that back at the lakehouse, but the gym that was renovated for her, as a gift reminded her too much of Elika, a dear friend of hers that just left all of a sudden with no particular warning. For Crystal it felt like Coruscant all over again when Stefanie had left her a few years ago. Now Crystal was just punching the bag before her in order to expel her frustrations. While she was indeed attuned to the Force, Crystal had never made that public at all, and thankfully because she had learned from the best on how to purposely diminish their presence in the Force, Crystal could just pass as someone not even trained or knowledgeable in it.
Some days, Ayla was sparring with her, some days it was Atlantis - correction about the latter, he served as her punching bag most of the time because he always refused to hit back still which she found cute and endearing and all, but there were days such as this one she just wanted an opposition. Unfortunately today wasn't going to be that day, and while perhaps she should have been in her office back at the Mist Government's building, Crystal also tried to avoid that place too. Mainly due to Lana. Crystal just couldn't stomach the fact that she had no answers for her assistant, nor had she heard from Elika. Lily currently on a business trip as her role required her to from time to time, Crystal just needed to find way to pass her time.
Throwing a final punch onto the bag, she figured that it would do for now until the following day. Walking over to the bench on the side, and grabbing a towel to wipe off her sweat, Crystal sat down and removed her combat gloves noticing her knuckles were red. Sighing softly and removing the straps from around her hand, she flexed her fingers before grabbing some of the bacta patches to apply them to her wound. That was her routine, go to the medbay first, then come here and punch the hell out of that punching bag. Grabbing her datapad, and checking if she had received anything important, which wasn't the case at all, thankfully, at least for now, she cleaned everything up to tidy the space again and stared for a moment at her commlink as if willing to have some news.
Sighing in defeat, Crystal walked out of the training room to head to the garden with her effects...

After she has had enough listening to the text on the Jedi Code in the library, Saoirse wanders around the academy for a bit to stretch her legs after sitting still for so long. Hearing the sounds of blaster bolts and the humming of lighstabers as she gets close to one of the training rooms, Saoirse stops in the doorway to watch as Cih and Rikki, both blindfolded, try to block what Saoirse later learns are low level stun bolts fired at them by a pair flying circular remote droids as they flit and dart around fitfully. In another part of the room Uto, not blindfolded, is blocking the blaster bolts fired towards him by a trio of droids, occasionally deflecting the bolts back towards the droids.
Nickala, walking into the training room, smiles up at Saoirse and invites her to join him and the others for their practice. Smiling back at Nickala, Saoirse gratefully accepts the offer, managing not to giggle as she remembers Atlantis describing the younglings as fierce, cute and tiny teachers. Young as he is, Saoirse finds Nickala to be a patient and knowledgeable instructor when it comes to lightsaber combat, as he spends time showing her a training lightsaber hilt and, after explaining the various parts and features, teaches her different ways to grip the hilt. After she tells Nickala that she feels comfortable with the hilt, Saoirse, excited to give the lightsaber thing a go for her first time, is a bit disappointed when Nickala says he needs to teach her some basics first, and then proceeds to teach her some basic blocks and stances.
Tach, having joined the other younglings for what is apparently a regular training session on some evenings after their classes are finished, decides to help Nickala teach Saoirse the basics of lightsaber use, and, in between his apparently habitual sarcastic comments, manages to be quite helpful in preparing Saoirse for her first session against one of the training remotes. While Nickala is pretty informative about basic lightsaber technique, it is Tach that is best able to explain that Saoirse will need to, as she will be blindfolded, focus on the Force in order to perceive where the low level stun bolts will be coming from, and that she will need to react quickly to what the Force tells her in order to block them.
Once Tach and Nickala finally deem her ready to engage in the exercise, Saoirse excitedly steps into the area they showed her and, after lowering the blindfold over her eyes, ignites the training saber, grinning as she hears the snap and hiss, and gets into the stance Nickala had taught her. Saioirse is hit by about four low level stun bolts before she manages to mostly stop trying to listen to the throbbing of the remote's repulsorlifts to determine where it is, another three before she gets focused enough to start sensing the warnings from the Force about where the next stun bolts will be coming from, and she loses count of the times she is hit by stun bolts in the arms, legs or elsewhere before she almost manages to block one.
Tach, after an obligatory sarcastic comment about her lack of success, tells Saoirse in a more supportive tone that it always takes time to get the hang of acting on what one senses on an almost instinctive level that allows for the necessary reaction time required to block the remote's incoming fire, and that she should not be discouraged. Nickala, adding his own support, tells Saoirse that she very nearly blocked the last stun bolt, and that all she needs is practice.
Thanking Tach and Nickala for their help, Saoirse tells them to get on with their own practice since she is worried they are spending too much time on teaching her. Nickala and Tach, both apparently well past the training remote stage, head over to where Uto, having moved on to doing a complicated kata of some kind, had been practicing deflecting blaster bolts back at the training droids firing them. After watching Nickala and Tach for a moment, Saoirse activates the training remote once more and, after lowering her blindfold and igniting the training lightsaber, continues practicing.

Since he had not received a message yet from Crystal, Atlantis figured she was still busy, and maybe this evening they might not be able to get their sparring sesh in. All in all it was fine by him, it was depending on her availability and/ or his. So that evening he was touring the Academy as a whole after being done with his meditation, he had stopped by his private quarters and freshened up a bit before setting off around the place, just wearing a simple loose shirt, pants, and running shoes. He wasn't sporting his lightsabers on his wrists, and was only carrying one that was clipped to his belt, the blue hued one thus his signature was flowing freely in the Academy.
Getting in one of the training rooms, he noticed that some of the younglings were practicing, he smiled at the sight, and leaned against the doorframe for a bit to watch them. It was indeed a regular thing for a few of them to get some training in when they were done with their classes, some of the older kids were in the garden meditating, and the younger here. He looked on the side and noticed that Saoirse was there also, which made him smile genuinely. Considering he knew the kids here, and the fact that they were always helpful, Saoirse must have gotten some tips from any of them. Looking at the trio that were deflecting blaster shots, Atlantis inclined his head while Cih and Rikki were blocking bolts while blindfolded. They were indeed perhaps more successful than Saoirse at this point, but she had only just begun.
Pushing away from the frame and walking in Saoirse's direction, Atlantis stopped one of the incoming bolts that was heading in her direction with the Force, and just looked at her momentarily with a faint grin. "Expand your awareness further to the Force, let it guide you, don't think, to listen to the sounds, empty your mind, and just let yourself be guided. He told her softly as he kept holding the stun bolt in place, before stopping another one causing his signature to up a bit.
"Currently, I have stopped two bolts there, I will be releasing them in a few to let them run their course, sense where they will be hitting you." Atlantis told her as he kept looking at both of them and released his hold on the first one that was going straight to her left leg, before releasing the second one that was aimed at her right arm...

Saoirse is surprised when she hears Atlantis instructing her to stop thinking and just let the Force guide her, but not as surprised as she is by the fact that she can hear the sinister low purring of the stun beam halted in midair somewhere in front of her. Not having been aware of the fact that a skilled Force user could halt stun bolts, Saoirse is even more impressed when she hears the snap of a second bolt being fired only to be followed by the humming of it being held at bay by Atlantis, who casually informs her that he will be releasing them presently so that she can try to sense where they head when he does so.
Nodding, reminding herself of the fact that she has probably sensed the Force warning her of danger during bolo-ball games countless times without knowing that was why she sometimes instinctively, or so she thought until learning what was actually occurring, moved to evade oncoming tackles or attempts to wrest possession of the ball from her, Saoirse tries to forget about about what she can hear, and to just clear her mind in order to be ready to heed what the Force tells her. Fortunately for her, Saoirse is used to having an audience from playing bolo-ball for so long that she can forget about who is watching, so the fact that her teacher is observing her does not hinder her efforts to clear her mind.
Using a lightsaber is, of course, new to her, and so when she has the sudden sense that her left leg and right arm are in immediate danger, Saoirse does not try to block either stun bolt and instead slides her left leg back and towards her right heel while dipping her right shoulder down and closer to her body. Saoirse grins as she hears both stun bolts hissing harmlessly past her, and then cringes as she hears Cih yipping in surprise as one of them strikes her in the back.
Tach, shaking his head as Saoirse turns and lifts her blindfold to see who was hit, says in his habitual sarcastic tone, "The point of the drill is to block the stun bolts, and then explains helpfully and without the snarky tone, In the field, you would want to make sure that any blaster fire you might be able to dodge did not harm allies behind or around you that don't have the Force to aid them like you do."
Nodding and waving with an apologetic smile to Cih, Saoirse tells Tach, "Understood, tiny, fierce teacher, and then, after Tack goes back to his practice after shaking his head, turns to Atlantis, deactivating the training saber and remote as she grins and says, Well, I sensed where they'd be hitting me, and was able to react in time to dodge them. That's progress, right? Looking at the training saber hilt, she adds, It'll take some time getting used to using this though. Nick and Tach showed me a few blocks and stuff, but I'm nowhere near to feeling confident with it. Shrugging, her expression and tone revealing that she is not frustrated or disappointed as she understands it takes time and practice to acquire and build any skill, Saoirse asks with a smile and without the giggling that she had succumbed to earlier, So, you have any tips or pointers for me, Master?"

Atlantis should have known or at least should have figured it out sooner indeed. Saoirse wasn't used to a lightsaber and she wasn't adept at handling anything resembling it. Far from it. So of course she'd dodge in lieu of blocking. Tach of course pointed that out in his everlasting sarcastic demeanor though Atlantis was also glad that the Ugnaught was also the helpful kind. He was after the one who gave helpful pointers on why it had been important to block in the first place. From there on out, Atlantis was just thinking of ways to facilitate this for Saoirse.
Well he had one solution but that involved nothing with a lightsaber.
"Not comfortable I understand, don't worry. And you definitely did great in knowing where they were going to hit so that you could dodge them." Atlantis smiled before tilting his head on the side with a dubious expression, well it was an expression that was in between curiosity and amusement, he supposed. "What caused you to actually wanting to try, at first?" Looking at the training hilt but also their surroundings along with her blindfold, there must have been something in particular, excitement perhaps? Or something else entirely. "I do have an idea, to ease you into blocking with a lightsaber, but that will involve quarterstaffs, and learning on how to block while I..." Pausing then and there taking a deep breath, looking like he was bracing himself to say something far graver than what he was going to say. "Try to hit you." He reluctantly said and took another deep breath, this was actually one of those moments where he hoped that Crystal, Ayla, or even Mace were around right here and right now.
"Though, it will never be me hitting you by surprise, we'll do a same set choreography so to speak, the Force won't be involved then and there, but just working your muscles and by extension your brain to work into getting into blocking position, so it can be easier for you." Those were one of his tips and suggestions on how to get her use to hold something in her hands, and that time she won't exactly be able to dodge since the sticks couldn't be retracted at all. "You think you will be okay in testing that first before jumping back to this?" He asked dubiously before glancing at Cih with also an apologetic expression as after all, he was also one of the causes for what had just occurred to her.
Slightly pouting, she felt that she had failed that, and she maybe should have seen it coming, but it was just out of the blue, and she wasn't exactly prepared for that. "It's fine, I should have sensed it at least, I'll be more mindful next time." Mumbling and lowering her blindfold again to get back to her training, because that was why she was here for, she wasn't going to let this one mishap stop her from getting better at all.

Saoirse nods, frowning in thought as she considers the idea of starting to learn to use a lightsaber defensively by running drills with Atlantis using quarterstaffs, "Sure, but maybe we could start by using somet. . ."
Tach, interrupting Saoirse as he puts forth his unsolicited advice, lifts his hand with an amused smile as he tells Atlantis, "I am willing to practice with her if you want, Master, his smile widening as he adds, I know you have an issue with hitting females even in practice sessions, while I, personally, have no such problems with doing so when it comes to sparring. I mean . . ."
Saoirse, stifling a laugh, holds up her hand and tells Tach, "Thanks for the offer, little guy, but we're just talking about running blocking drills for now. Grinning with an arched eyebrow, she says, When I'm ready for a real match, I'll keep your offer in mind though. Tach nods, then goes back to his own practice as Saoirse tells Atlantis with a grin, He's awful helpful, huh? Remembering the thought she had before Tach had interrupted her, Saoirse, who understands the reasoning behind Atlantis' decision to take a step back in her lightsaber training for now so that he can drill her on blocking and possibly striking by going through a set routine of some kind that will allow her to focus on the basic arm and hand movements, grips and stances involved in using a lightsaber without the additional distractions of trying to use the Force or worrying about where the strikes will be coming from, asks, Do you have anything closer to lightsabers to practice with? Explaining her reasoning, Saoirse says, The way I figure it, using quaterstaffs would be good, but since it'll be a different grip and feel and stuff, maybe using something like practice swords would be better? It'd be closer to using a lightsaber, which would help with stance and muscle memory and all."

Chuckling at Tach's suggestion, Atlantis inclined his head as a thanks though soon shook his head to let him know that it was alright. Thankfully though, Saoirse did explain, but that aside, he focused on what she was saying and nodded with a knowing smile, her idea was a better idea actually, and he should have thought of that.
"You are right, and thank you for pointing that out, we'll use Shinai swords." Atlantis drummed his lips before explaining. "Closest thing we'll have to the lightsaber without it cutting since it's made out of wood, however." He looked around as this training room was bigger and mainly was used for lightsaber training. "We'll have to move to the smaller room that is next to this one. Which happens to be also where Crystal often trains, and there are plenty of weapons there that aren't lightsabers."
Atlantis looked at the younglings with a knowing smile "I'll be taking Saoirse to the other room, you all just keep on practicing, but don't stay up late, alright?" Waiting patiently so that Saoirse could do what she needed to do before they moved to the other room, Atlantis took her there, and turned on the lights. There was a punching bag, some quarterstaffs lined up against the wall, and even those wooden swords, several sticks. This room was mainly for hand to hand combat or anything else people wished to use this space for that did not require the Force.
Standing in front of the swords, he looked at those and glanced at her before handing one to her that he judged would fit her, length of it. "Try this one, and see how comfortable you are gripping it, we can always wrapped tape around it so you are more comfortable with it." Atlantis suggested before grabbing one of them and tested it in his hands, twirling it and striking into empty air.

"Sounds great!" Saoirse says excitedly when Atlantis, based on her idea of using something more similar to lightsabers than quarterstaffs to continue her instruction in lightsaber combat, suggests they use Shinai swords to run the blocking drills he has proposed.
After waving to the younglings, and smiling when Tach tells Atlantis he will personally make sure that everyone turns in for the night before it gets too late, Saoirse follows Atlantis to the smaller training room that Crystal apparently often uses. Grinning as she spots the punching bag that Crystal probably used earlier in the day to get her knuckles so torn up, Saoirse reminds Atlantis, "You'll have to show me some punches and kicks too, adding, Later, I mean, as she doesn't want to get distracted by anything other than the reason they have come to the smaller room in the first place. There will be, Saoirse thinks, plenty of time to learn all the things she has to learn now that her training has begun in earnest.
Accepting the wooden training sword that Atlantis offers her, Saoirse shakes her head after testing its grip and weight, "I think this'll do for starters." She can always tape the grip later if it feels as though it is necessary, Saoirse thinks as she takes the sword into the two-handed grip Tach and Nick had shown her, and then adopts the guarding stance they had shown her, the left side of her body turned towards Atlantis, her knees slightly bent and the hilt of the training sword held at the level of her waist so that she can block high or low quickly.
Once she is in what she believes is the correct opening stance, Saorise asks Atlantis, "How does this look? Tach and Nick showed me the opening stance and grip they thought was best to start with, she explains, and then, grinning excitedly, asks, So, how do we start? You said we'd drill with a set pattern, right?" Figuring that they will probably be starting at something less than the full speed Atlantis is capable of bringing to bear, Saoirse gets ready to learn the pattern of strikes and parries she assumes Atlantis will be showing her.

Smiling and nodding when Saoirse asked him to show her some punches and kicks later, Atlantis looked at the punching bag for a brief moment, at least this one had no tears, which could often happen but that was a story for another time. That aside, Atlantis looked at her opening stance, and smiled warmly as she had told him that Tach and Nick had shown her Shii Cho opening stance, which was good indeed considering that was the first form that everyone was ever taught before, depending on the wielder, focused on different forms that suited them the best.
"Did they tell you also that how you are holding the sword right now is the Form I opening stance, called Shii Cho?" Atlantis asked dubiously before replicating her stance and smiled warmly, he bent his knees slightly and held his sword on the side mirroring her. "It'll be simple for the time being, your left high, and then your right high, then we'll include the low blocks. We'll go slowly at first. I'll show you."
Atlantis started in a slow motion to strike on her left at her shoulder level but didn't go all the way through to hit her, then did the same on her right side, again on her shoulder level.
"Afterwards, we'll add low strikes on your thighs level, but first let's do those two and we'll see how it works out for you as we pick up the speed. Remember to keep a firm grip on the hilt, you don't want it to be loose when the hits come at a higher speed. Ready?" And with that he started the first drill by aiming at her left shoulder first then followed up by her right.

The confused expression on Saoirse's face when Atlantis asks if Nick or Tach had told her that the opening stance they taught her was from Form I is probably answer enough, but she shakes her head anyway as she says excitedly, "Nope! What is Form 1 all about? she asks as, after Atlantis demonstrates the first two strikes he will be making, she moves her training sword up into the horizontal block with the sword angled on a gentle downward diagonal slope to direct a blow away from her and deter the chances of a locking of weapons as she had been shown by the younglings and tacks on another pair of questions before answering Atlantis' question to her, Is this the right way to block a high strike? What are the other forms of lightsaber combat? Ready!" she agrees with a grin when Atlantis says they are about to begin.
With Atlantis providing the occasional criticism of her stance or the way she holds the training sword while they continue with the blocking drills at something slower than half speed to begin, Saoirse steadily begins to gain a little confidence with the two-handed grip she seems most comfortable with, and with using a sword-like weapon in general, though moving to half speed and later full speed when Atlantis deems she is ready for it makes her aware of just how much practice she will have to put in before she develops the muscle memory and instincts to truly have a feel for sword fighting.
As they drill, Atlantis, when not offering advice or correcting her form or grip as, encouraged by her progress, he adds a few more complicated strikes to their repertoire, answers Saoirse's questions about Shii Cho and lightsaber combat in general, information that she files away to be pondered or meditated upon later so that she can absorb it and integrate it with all that she is learning. Trying to confine her questions to Shii Cho and its more common moves and its overall theory to keep from getting too far off topic or from muddling her understanding of what she gets the impression is the form of lightsaber combat most of the others use as a foundation, Saoirse nonetheless wonders what form she will ultimately be trained in when she and Atlantis learn what suits her best.
Even though Atlantis is never truly aggressive, mindful as he is of not actually hitting Saoirse even when they move on to full speed and unscripted, at times multiple strikes for her to block or parry, Saoirse can see why he had told her that Shii Cho is a raw and simplistic form, and could invite an emotionally-heated mindset that one would need to be mindful of if they were to adhere to the form's purpose of disarming an opponent without injuring them too much. Used to feeling the occasional pull to be more aggressive on the field when bolo-balls games become heated, Saoirse is familiar enough with restraining herself when the temptation to resort to violence is incited by some situations, and she trusts that she will be able to walk a similar line as she learns more about lightsaber combat.
Tossing Atlantis a towel after he decides to call the training session to an end, Saoirse wipes the sweat from her face and neck as she grins happily even though her muscles are aching and she is practically drenched in sweat, asking, "How'd I do? I started feeling pretty comfortable with things towards the end there, she crinkles her nose as she amends her statement, Until we abandoned the script anyway." It had been a bit harder, initially, to put everything she had learned up to that point together when Atlantis had started striking without announcing how he would be doing so beforehand, but Saoirse feels like more practice will help develop her instincts and skill, and so does not seem discouraged by the fact she was only able to successfully block, parry or dodge a fraction of the strikes or combinations of strikes Atlantis had sent towards her at full speed, always able to halt or draw his weapon back before he hit her when she failed to do so.

Atlantis always made a point to explain, and answer her questions whenever those came while he frequently made sure to never hit her at all when he knew that he was about too especially when they had picked up the speed. Continuously he gave her some constructive criticism and showed her how to better parry. All in all, he was pleased with her progress as they moved on ergo why at some point indeed he stopped informing her where he'd hit, and what his next moves would be.
That went on for a little while longer than he had anticipated but it was a good run in his honest opinion, which was why he was smiling when he caught the towel she tossed at him after he returned the shinais on their holder. Dabbing his face with the towel along with his arms, Atlantis placed it around his neck when he was done wiping off the sweat. "You did good for your first time using a sword there." He sincerely told her with another smile. "I wouldn't do the unscripted side if I thought you weren't ready at all." Atlantis figured that he would take that opportunity to do so, just to keep her on her feet, and also let her explore a bit further her ability to potentially block this or that type of strike from his.
"Sooner or later, I am sure that you'll definitely find your footing, and with that probably which form you'll be most comfortable with." It was still too early to tell since this was just the first lesson, Atlantis remembered those days way back then, it took a little bit of time until he was comfortable, which came with him actually finding where he excelled at to begin with. Then again it also depended on the situation, he did master two forms, along with always using his environment when it was permitted to him.
"We shall definitely work on that more but also it'll be good if you keep up with blocking stun bolts. However keeping your awareness in the Force will be paramount too, so we'll probably begin fully with that. It'll be a great help to anticipate your opponent's moves at least." Atlantis explained thoughtfully, "I know it seems like it's going to be a lot, and I am not going to lie, because it is indeed, especially as we have just started but never lose the drive you have, and keep pushing yourself constantly, like I am sure you have been when you were training with your bolo-ball team." Practice does help after all, and the move she is used to it, the easier it'll come constantly.
Thus far, what he had observed was that she was definitely willing to learn and would always push herself to at least get better at it, but since he halted their session, it was enough for the time being. "I would recommend a good bath, and some relaxation to soothe your muscles." Atlantis mentioned out of the blue, "Or alternative" Atlantis nodded towards the punching bag with a grin. "Postpone the bath and up for some punches and or kicks, or are your muscles screaming at you already?" Chuckling softly before tilting his head on the side wondering what she'd choose indeed, that was definitely up to her and he wouldn't mind either ways.

As tempting as the idea of soaking in a bath sounds at the moment, Saoirse has always believed firmly in the idea of continually pushing herself, a habit instilled in her by her love of bolo-ball, just as Atlantis had noted, and so, grinning as she nods towards the punching bag, she says, "Let 'em scream, I'm up for those punches and kicks. Standing in front of the bag, head tilted to the side, she asks, So, do I use the same kind of stance as we did for the swords, or is there a better one for hand to hand?"
As she waits for Atlantis' instruction, Saorise thinks back on all that he had said while they practiced with the swords, doing her best to commit the criticisms and suggestions he had offered to memory so that, as she continues to hone her skills, she bears them firmly in mind. As eager as she is to advance in her training, Saoirse knows that rushing ahead heedlessly will not do her any good in the long run, and resolves to learn the basics as well as she can.
Maintaining an awareness of the Force, and what doing so can reveal to her, is something Atlantis has pointed out the value of on more than one occasion, and so, to challenge herself and to practice being mindful of the Force, as she listens and watches Atlantis beginning to instruct her in how to punch and kick, Saoirse keeps one part of her mind focused on sensing the Force around her. Dividing her focus is, naturally, not as easy as it sounds, and so Saoirse does not let herself get discouraged as she occasionally loses her focus on sensing the Force as she follows Atlantis' instructions about the stance she should use when hitting the bag, and later how to perform various punches and kicks. As they continue with her lesson, moving on to some basic footwork to incorporate into the punches and kicks, Saoirse finds it a bit easier to keep one corner of her mind tasked with staying aware of the Force around her, and feels encouraged by the idea that, in time, she might find it almost instinctive to do so so long as she continues practicing.

Chuckling at her reply, Atlantis inclined his head with a knowing look. All in all, he understood here, after all he was like her when he first started, he wanted to learn, and was always willing to get things done. Plus it gave a sense of fulfillment, and just those little simple things made him happy too. If he wasn't hurting due to training, he always felt that he overall did nothing at all. He was just wired that way.
Although before they even started on punching the bag, Atlantis brought her to the side and took some tapes asking for her hands, to wrap tapes around her hand and knuckles the best way he knew how, and even provided some fingerless combat gloves for her. He made sure that she was comfortable, and that it wasn't too tight at all, but also was tight enough for her to work on her punches. "These will cushion your punches, unless you go at it roughly, and instensely, but it'll prevent injuries." He explained with a smile, for his case, he did not wrap his hands or take any gloves since he was only going to show her how to punch, and wouldn't be punching excessively.
Thus with that done, he was standing by her side facing the punching bag with his left foot up front and left shoulder facing the bag. "Each punches, you will have to make sure that your arm is forming a straight line on this case, whether it's a jab," Throwing a quick punch with his left fist, making sure he showed how he balled his fist and keeping his fist on the bag just to show her what he meant again about the straight arm before redoing the same with his right fist, though this time it was more of a heavy punch. Moving behind the bag to hold it still while he left her throw the punches, Atlantis looked at her the whole time, and how she would punch the bag, before showing her other ways of punching, and then proceeded on showing her how to kick, whether it was high medium or low kicks.
All in all he explained that those were basics straight up punches and kicks, and they could always evolve in the sense that it depended on the opponent, and it was up to how she felt at the time on the ways she'd be kicking or punching as long as it reached her intended target. "Your momentum in a way will define how you might end up throwing the hits, the trick there is to first observe your opponent and potentially get a read on them. Generally, a person will favor certain type of punches or kicks, or even positioning, but we are not there yet, since I am not going to fight you at all." He playfully told her before shaking his head with a chuckle. "I am sure that someone will be willing to spar with you and not just stand there like a punching bag, as I often do. Though we aren't there yet so kicks and punches for now."
Returning behind the bag to keep holding it still, he let here do a few more until he judged that it was probably enough for the evening "Tell me, how do you feel?" He asked genuinely, he figured he'd ask even if his question was a large one, but that way he'd know at least if she was satisfied, or not at all. As far as he could tell, she was progressing nicely, and for a first time on everything so to speak, he was genuinely glad with how she approached the whole thing.

Saoirse, listening to all of the advice and critiques that Atlantis offers as she jabs, punches, and kicks the bag as he holds it in place, feels pretty comfortable with the kicks he had shown her by the time he calls an end to the session, and only marginally less so with the punches. The muscles in her back, sides and shoulders are sore, having been used in ways they aren't typically used, and Saoirse can understand now how punching and kicking a bag can be a workout on its own. Rolling her neck and picking up a towel to wipe the sweat from her face, Saoirse grins as she answers Atlantis' question about how she feels, "Sore all over, but in a good way. Guessing he was asking more about what she has learned, Saoirse adds, The kicks feel a bit more natural, and I am getting more power behind them than the punches. For now anyway," she grins, confident that continued practice will make the punches, jabs and uppercuts come both more naturally and with more strength behind them.
Throwing Atlantis a towel, Saoirse smiles as she says, "Of course, like you said, hitting a stationary bag and an actual opponent are two very different things, so I'll have to find a partner willing to hit back sooner or later if I 'm going to be able to work on putting things together with the observing and anticipating and being open to the Force to use it and sense what it can tell me. Remembering that Atlantis had mentioned another teacher at the academy that is currently out with the older students, Saoirse asks, Do you know of any of the older students who might be looking for sparring partners? It would be good to have others to practice with when an instructor isn't available, she explains, then grins as she adds, I know Tach is willing to hit back, but I think I'd have your issue with hitting women where it comes to hitting kids, even smart-alecky ones."
Rubbing the back of her neck, Saoirse smiles as she says, "That soaking in a hot bath you mentioned earlier sounds reeeeallly good about now, and then asks, Do you have any more lessons planned for tonight, or am I free until dinner, Master? Tilting her head to the side, she asks, Is dinner usually a scheduled thing, or do we fend for ourselves unless there's a special occasion?"

"Yes, I am not surprised if kicks for you come naturally." Atlantis said with a knowing smile and nod, after all, she was a limmie player, and she was used to kicking the ball. "We'll most certainly work on your punches too, and give them some strength, but in order to get to that, I guess we'll have to work on your upper body, and some workout to build strength, and tone your muscle."
One of the cardinal rules, Atlantis knew that in any case they'd have to go into workout mode with push-ups, reps, even weight lifting, but that can be done another day definitely, as after all Atlantis also wasn't sure when the older students were going to come back with Franz, and like she had asked him, she was wondering if some of them where looking for sparring partners.
"The older students are actually always looking for sparring partners, while they usually spar with one another, they often like to change it up and face someone new in a sense." Catching the towel tossed at him and drumming his fingertips against his chin, he tilted his head on the side and smiled knowingly again. "I might have a solution for you though, I know siblings, it's a bit complicated but bottom line is, they were left here to be my personnal private security." Sneering slightly at the thought and rolling his eyes before shaking his head and clearing his throat. "They are both trained in hand to hand combats, in different types actually, and most of the time I do train with Valaras, since I am not going to hit his sister." He chuckled for obvious reasons. "They are Epicanthix, so impervious to mind reading, so just say so, I can ask Valaras or Xyrias, his sister, or even both to come around?" That way at least Saoirse wouldn't have to wait at all for when the older students would return, and he supposed that it would give the Non siblings other things to do when they weren't in duty in protecting the raceways.
Dabbing his sweat with the towel, Atlantis let it rest around his neck before shaking his head when she asked him if he had anything else to show her this evening. "You are free until dinner, and should definitely soak into a nice warm bath, as for the dinner time, it's always served in a buffet style, in the dining hall until a certain time, though you can still find some grub in the kitchen if necessary. Dinner is there for a few hours, then cleared out when people know that most are sleeping." Inclining his head once more, Atlantis kept the towel around his head, he'll toss it in the laundry basket in his room in any case, thus it was no biggie. "Shall we?" He gestured towards the room's exit.

Saoirse nods with a thoughtful frown when Atlantis points out that, in order to improve on her hand to hand skills, specifically with hand strikes, she will want to start working out in specific ways. Though she already has a work out routine, Saoirse can see the logic in adding exercises to strengthen her upper body, but is too tired at the moment to start thinking about exactly what that might entail. Atlantis, from the sound of it, probably already has ideas about what they will add to her workout routine, and so Saoirse sets the matter aside for the time being.
Pursing her lips in thought after Atlantis mentions that there is a pair of Epicanthix siblings that would more likely than not be willing to spar with her, Saoirse's initial thought is to tell him to hold off on making the offer since her skill level is probably far below that of the siblings, meaning they wouldn't get as much out of the practice as she would. After considahering it further, Saoirse decides that putting the sparring off isn't necessary, as the sooner she gets some real experience the better, and even if she doesn't pose much of a challenge for the siblings now, ideally she will be able to do so eventually. Shrugging with a grin, Saoirse tells Atlantis, "Yeah, if they have the time, I'd be appreciative. No need to rush though, she adds, and then jokes, As far as the impervious to mind reading thing, I think it'll be a while before anyone needs to worry about me reading their mind. Tilting her head to the side as her statement, somewhat predictably, gives rise to a question, Saoirse asks, How do you practice mind reading anyway? I don't imagine it's easy to find someone willing to let you practice that particular skill."
After Atlantis has explained how dinner is handled at the academy, Saoirse follows him outside and asks, "Do you and the other teachers join the learners, or do your own thing for dinner? If, she explains the reason for her question, you do, and there's a time you usually shoot for, I can meet you there? Once the question about whether or not Atlantis and the other teachers dine with the students has been answered, Saoirse points in the general direction of her quarters and grins, I'm off for that bath, and then bows as she says with genuine gratitude and respect evident in her tone, Thanks for the teaching, Master. Adding a more informal wave, Saoirse turns and jogs off with a, See ya later!"

Tossing her cloak onto the nearby bench and actually removing her boots, she preferred it that way, being light and just no hindrance in movements. These were just going to be katas, and in no ways these moves would be used for combat, but at least it does get people to get used with some of the placements.
“You don’t have to remove your boots, or shoes if you don’t want to, it’s not compulsory.” Reassuring Saoirse quickly, Ayla figured it was better to say that beforehand as after all, she knew that some of the students seem to take that as indication that they should do it like she did. “I am not going to lie at all, and tell you that your mind will be cleared already from doing these movements, because that’s not true, as this will be your first time, but once you get into it and just remember the simple moves, it will come to you automatically and that is when your mind will wander most possibly to a state of peace.”
Both fists balled up and facing Saoirse, Ayla bowed respectfully as it was tradition, before executing the first basic kata of Shotokan which did not involve kicks just yet. Ayla demonstrated at first slowly so Saoirse would get it, and she did not hesitate to repeat the process and also do it beside her correcting from time to time her stance and form . . .
They kept going on and at it before taking it to the next level each time when progress was sufficiently made. Each katas were different but at least it built muscle memories until it was all natural and just no big deal, in the sense that a person would no longer thing about each next move to make but more just being in the moment and not actually think about anything further but just moving and executing those moves automatically.
“Movements can be meditation, or at least the art of movement, so do it through katas, and some do it through dancing. It just lets you express yourself, and the intensity you want to put into your movements is all up to you, but in the end it’s all about just about the dopamine in your system, and make your feel quite content.” Explained Ayla with a knowing smile before tilting her head slightly on the side and pointed out briefly to where the limmie game had occurred. “After all, you were at your best when you were out there, here there is no opposition at all, it’s only about you and you only moving to get to that state of clearing your mind from the noise around you.” Ayla knew that this was all new territory in a way, but also another way to find inner peace so to speak, and hopefully this would be one of those ways that Saoirse could achieve that, but Ayla was still open to finding different ways to do so, however long it took.
“Do you want to go on, or are you satisfied for now?” She asked dubiously, it wasn’t exactly late, but it was getting there definitely, and she figured that after that limmie game Saoirse played, she’d want some downtime too on her own. Probably. Either way, Ayla was fine with accommodating her and continuing the lesson if necessary.
