Is there any advice on how I should start off as a politician - ie. who I can/should contact for OOC advice, who I should/shouldn't ally with or against, etc.
Is it possible if I start straight on Coruscant as a Senator for Corellia, or is that position already taken up? If it is, what other planets can I feasibly serve as a Senator for (ie. with relative activity there so I can interact with other users)?
Regarding my character, if you know the character I'm using for my avatar/physical appearance of my character and the quote I'm using, you'll know that I'm basing my character heavily off Francis Urquhart from the 90's BBC TV drama "House of Cards". I basically want to be a scheming, machiavellian type of politician who is just interested in getting more and more power and will do anything (murder, manipulate, mess with people's heads) to get that power. I'm basically just trying to see how far that sort of character can go or how well he can be written in a Star Wars context.
EDIT: Did some investigating, and it seems like Dmitri Koronov is the Senator for Corellia. Could I be the Senator for Serenno, then? The Coruscant Senate forum for that doesn't appear to have been touched yet, and my character could be from an elite House of Serenno as much as a House of Corellia. That said, it doesn't seem like Sernno has much activity...

The Republic is dead, so you're welcome to claim yourself as a Senator if you'd like - but your character would hold no power. Feel free to set yourself up as a local politician on the other hand, a governor and the like.

My mistake for not explaining - I'm fine with being a local governor or Prime Minister as well. That said, what planets are there with enough activity for me to RP with others? It'd be preferable if I could interact with other politicians - especially on a regular basis.

Talus is starting to look quite interesting to me - and there was once a Prime Minister of the planet as well. Maybe I could aspire to reach such a position, or the equivalent of it under the Th'tremsi.
Also, another question - with the collapse of the Republic, what does the Chancellor do/what has the position become?

I'm afraid Talus is already quite spoken for my good friend.
as for the Chancellor, the position no longer exists. It was a position within the Republic. Though, I believe Standash, who was the last Chancellor, is the current governor of Coruscant or something of that title.

Then I shall have to continue my search. What other planets do you know of that I can involve myself in politically?
EDIT: How about Taris?

Surely there are some people here who play politicians who could help out a friend in need Taris is still a potential target. I had considered Corulag as well, but it seems way too deserted for the past year and a half. That said, Eriadu seems like my biggest chance right now - there's a Tarkin there that could be my rival for the First Order's affection or something along those lines. If anybody could offer me information on the currently active politicians and what they're doing, that'd be nice as well. Any other general advice is also appreciated.

You could try to become a politician within the First Order. We got planets that could use a representative. Sure any sort of 'politician' would be within the military's pay or among its hierarchy as ranked officers, but I welcome a new kind of character. Otherwise, perhaps try to be a politician for the Alliance. Use your diplomatic skills to gain new allies and deals that could aid the fight against the First Order.

Feel free to correct me if I am wrong guys, but I think I am about the only mostly active politician on the sight. At least first and foremost politician. My claims are to Alderaan and Coruscaunt. Either way welcome to the site! I am looking for role plays at the moment as well. As far as time line of the site the republic just ended like a few days ago. So there is a lot of clean up to be done.
