So we all learned a while back that the Sithies were no longer going to be a thing and we haven't heard anything since. It was sad news for me then and it's sad news now, but JvS has gone on and so should we. I am proposing a new awards show in place of the Sithies. Which I hope will be a bigger and better version of the Sithies we knew and loved. Now I don't want to rush things this for this year, there isn't time and honestly this is just a concept for what I think could be the start of an amazing awards show.
JvS is coming up on ten years old and a lot of us have been here for that entire time, I'm hoping to have a mega awards show that will include all of the old awards and even some new ones, the awards will of course be divided up into at least four categories: Post based, player based, story based, and players choice. Possibly one more category but I will talk more on that later depending on the response I get here.
I have been going though the old Sithies threads and over the years there have been several awards that have made appearances and many that have been suggested and never made it to the show, in total I've counted about 70+ but I don't think that is a complete list. Now of course some of these are very similar and could be lumped together with others but I want to make sure that all past award categories that were in the show make it into this one. I'd also like to include the Hall of Fame into this new awards program if it makes it past the planning stages.
Now I'm going to need help getting this thing off the ground and I'd love it if I could get a widely diverse group of individuals to help me. I'll also need Whill support if any of you are Whilling to help...ok I'll stop that. Ideas and names for this new venture. Perhaps some help from some former Sithies Staffers. And of course open minds.
Now, I know that the Sithies were a sore spot for some, but I know many that enjoyed them every year and I would like to keep any contentious bickering to a minimum here, this isn't something that is set in stone as I said it is just a concept that I would like to discuss with everyone.
I won't ramble on any longer, but I do look forward to any and all responses.
Ade.

First off, I am saddened by the fact that this didn't have more support. And I apologize for not seeing this sooner and giving my input. Anyways, I will continue to the point.
As a veteran writer that was never able to fully commit to the site enough to warrant any sort of inclusion in the Sithies, I wholeheartedly support this idea. I personally think that the concept of the Sithies was good. I just think that there were a few out there that misinterpreted or misread into what they actually represented. To me the Sithies represented a chance to us, as a community, to come together and engage with one another. It endorsed the idea that we were, and are in fact a community of writers/RPers/gamers. And I think that is wonderful. It also served to help encourage others to bring their very best to the table. I know myself, that because of the impressive display of writings gathered together by the Sithies drove me to write better. To try and overcome any personal trappings or hangups about my writing that I may have had. And I think it worked. I never viewed it as a competition, but rather as a challenge. A personal challenge to myself to push myself harder and reach further as a writer and with my characters. And in all honesty it worked. I was extremely disappointed to come back to the site and discover that the Sithies were no more. Because of that, I feel as it hurt us as a community.
While I currently do not have any suggestions or recommendations to help improve what the Sithies were, I stand behind this 100%. I think that is what we are severely lacking on this site right now. A chance for all of us to mingled and have fun, by putting aside our IC squabbles and drama and just enjoying ourselves. I've noticed the steady decline in population for a long time now and it saddens me. Having discussed this at length with a friend, I feel that in order to boost the site to make it a place to be proud of again, we need to put aside whatever little petty differences aside and just do it. Great things can be done when this community comes together as a group. And I'd like to see it happen again. Thanks for taking the time to read my input. And I hope we can push this forward.

Adrien, I've bumped and pinned this thread so that others may be more inclined to respond to it. My apologies for it having taken so long to do so. Now, back to reading...

I think a featured character slot would sum up a lot of it. Broken down into: Featured Mando, Featured Light-side, Featured Dark-side, Featured Independent. So two force, two non force (or at least were the focus isn't on the force). Handed out every six months in two stages, first stage is nominations (anyone can throw any name in the hat, yes even their own). Stage two would be a poll with links to each character (one poll for each category). This would be a mix of IC & OOC interactions. The pillars of the community type thing.
& possibly once a year or every other year have an awards show. This would be for pure IC stuff (maybe 5-10 awards to start with. With possible increases later if there is enough support). Possible awards (just spit-balling off the top of my head): Most riveting CoOp SL, Most riveting Solo SL, Funniest post (Limited reading to just 2 posts, the funny one & what it was in reply to), Best fight, Best thread, etc.

As someone who was heavily involved in the first few shows, I can say theres no way to keep everyone happy. You need a team of people dedicated to putting themselves last to be involved in planning running/presenting and organizing. We never had a shortage of people willing to help and contribute, and the community very much got behind us and helped make them fun and inclusive.
With the right attitude, and a few good dedicated people, it can be done.

I'd be more than willing to lend any help that I can to this venture. When we decided to close the Sithies, there was the faint possibility that a new thing/system would replace it. But the biggest thing was just having the staff and support from the wider community. Our biggest killer was just that people did not have the time or effort to put to seeking out posts by other people and nominating them.
The other thing that you should consider, is when you want to host the event and when nominations need to be done. Opening nominations around November/December was quickly becoming unsustainable as most people were busy with work or holiday preparations.

Mid fall (before the holidays) & mid spring might work out better. That way you avoid a lot of the holiday hassle that makes it difficult for so many of us.
