Revival

Let me preface this by saying that I love JvS. It was a huge part of my internet upbringing as well: hell, altogether I must have made twenty to thirty thousand posts over the years. All that said...speaking to you honestly, one Old Guard to another...I wouldn't waste my time. That sounds a little harsh, especially coming from a guy who is wrapped up in a pretty good RP right now, but let me speak my spiel - because I'm not going to sugar coat it for you and paint some picture of this place that it isn't. (EDIT: not saying Altair did that, just saying I know plenty of people who still see this place through rose colored glasses)

So. Speaking frankly and bluntly.

This site is NOT what it used to be. It is insular, cliquish, and xenophobic to a fault. Membership is and has been on the downswing, with who knows how many "active" accounts being alt accounts by single users. Personally, I put our active member base (with active being defined as at least one post per week) as well under fifty, if not under thirty to twenty members. And, I'm sorry, but if you're looking for fast and or spontaneous RP, then you're better off looking for another RP site. I think this stickied thread is all the evidence you need to know that blue light and spontaneous RP is effectively dead on here.

But if you want spontaneous RP, and somehow manage to drum up enough active members for it, let me give you a little peek as to what you're going to be in for. I put together a little blue light RP, taking place on Dantooine in the wake of a recent battle that happened there, and I got so much FLACK for it. I mean, nitpicking, egocentric, venomous FLACK. I got so many PM's, Facebook messages, and Skype texts about absolutely everything under the sun (from where I got thirty measly troops, to who the hell I was to insert myself on the planet to begin with) that I literally had to post a disclaimer in the OOC boards. A disclaimer that has been viewed over a hundred times, still without a SINGLE comment from any of my former dissenters - because any asshat with brains in his head knows that I'm right and that they're just bashing on a blue lighter for blue lighting.

So, yeah, run the other way. Cuz this place is a sinking ship, and, frankly, speaking as someone who has always loved this place (and has admittedly been pretty severely burned by other nameless members rather recently) I can honestly tell you that your kind, our kind, is a dead or near extinct species here on JvS.

There's no place for you here. And you know it, else you wouldn't be asking, hoping someone can talk you into it.

End bitter rant against the greater insular collective

Hi Nex, welcome back (sort of as the case may be).

Honestly, JvS hasn't really changed all that much. Everyone still has different views on the site. Some consider it xenophobic. Others consider it open and welcoming. It all really just depends on who you talk to, who you/they write with, and as always, whose toes you/they step on. With the right people, and there is still a good handful of them, you can get some spontaneous RP going that is relatively fast paced. Perhaps not hundreds of posts a minute like we used to on Facebook in the 1.0 days (after all, a lot of us have grown up since then and improved our writing abilities), but you can get some stuff going.

To say that JvS was never insular, cliquish, and xenophobic to some degree throughout it's existence, is somewhat naive. There has always been some aspects of those three aspects present. There have been dozens of factions stretching from 1.0 to 1.5 and even through to 2.0 that have existed and were founded because their writers had a clique of their own. Some of them expanded and added new members, others did not.
But hey, if you find the right people to write with, is it really so terrible? Is it really such a catastrophe if not everyone on the site wants to write with every single other person?
Perhaps it might be a selling point for you, but I doubt you will ever find such a place exists (either online or offline).

Like Nic and Altair suggested. Have a look around, chat with some people who are doing writing that interests you, or that have threads in the RP Planning area. Hell, maybe someone might even PM you with some ideas (maybe wait a couple days for Admy to show back up, I'm sure she'd love to chat about something).

My only other advice: don't let someone make up your mind for you with regards to returning to JvS. We could sell this place to you all day and you might agree to return based on that. But there is no point being sold on something, unless you find something for yourself here.

Also question for people: I have decided to kill of Nexus in this RP with a fight with a new character. Does anyone have input on the fight? Should I have Nexus armor up or be caught with his pants down? He is going to die either way so I want the more epic RP
