Greetings one and all,
This thread is to get an idea of what people's interest would be in the idea of a purely "Players Choice" set of award/recognition polls being set up and run in the lead up to the 10 Year Anniversary. It would not be anything super fancy or complicated. Just a little fun for people to participate in that wouldn't require a whole lot of organization or effort.
Not 100% certain what the categories would be, up for some ideas. Was thinking of maybe taking some of the old Sithies main categories and setting them as ones for this (Lightsider, Darksider, etc). But open for any and all thoughts.

I think the old categories are the ones that would be best. Lightsider, Darksider, Non-Force, Smuggler, and so on.
As for new categories, what about recognizing players on the site that have acted as OOC and IC leaders of groups, and that have co-ordinated site-wide storylines? I don't know what you would call such a category, but I was thinking of the players that try to foster site-wide RP, like the Alliance and First Order players that worked to get stories going that brought a lot of players together, or the Jedi or Mandalorian writers that have made efforts to do the same.

Why not try something a little different. In the past the Sithies staff have selected the categories, or the site has voted. This time, as its a very special occasion, why not have players able to nominate for any award they can think up. "Best Dark Sider" "Most Annoying Companion" "Sexiest Mandalorian" etc. It would save the Sithies staff a LOT of time and effort not having to come up with categories. (And avoid upsetting people as has happened in the past when they wanted to see a particular award and it wasn't there)
It'd allow for some humour and good natured banter, and we'd get a wide range of suggested awards, not just the standard Best RPer ones. Then the Sithies staff can filter the nominations to make sure it isnt toooooo silly.
Just thinking out loud.

Maybe a special nod or adage to those of us that have while maybe not a straight continuous ten years, have been around since the FB app days? I wanted a badge made during 1.5 and it was a possibility but nothing was ever really done (at least not during my time on site.) But I think a basic special players choice "Sithies" esque awards deal would be pretty neat otherwise.

That's a big part of what this thread is here for. Gauge interest and get some ideas for award categories. All of it will be voted on by the players. Going to solo the running of it this year, just to keep it simple and light.
Put some ideas out there and encourage others to do so as well. Once we have a variety of categories, I'll filter through and figure out which ones we can manage with some competition.
As a rule, we'll keep nominations to people still writing on JvS. But, We can certainly have something to commemorate some of the writers who have left us with fond memories.

Skip the awards and just have random people show up on a hot seat... then let everyone either toast or roast em at will ... (not literally mind you [feel free do ding into the archives for highlight reels n whatnot])
that way no hard feeling because you got past up for an award.. no possible complaints about things being favored / popularity contest...
.. although potential for OOC butt-hurt i suppose >.< *shrugs*

Any time you have an awards ceremony therell always be suggestions its a popularity contest. By having nominations and awards require the input of only one person, you only need to have one friend "vote" for you to get an award. If you can't find at least one person willing to put you forward for recognition, you probably don't deserve it.
I would be happy if everyone got one award, even if that means some people get multiples, and we end up with a ridiculously long list, its the 10 year awards after all.

No idea is without some short falls. Awards will invariably leave some people feeling hurt, as Kaine pointed out. But on the other hand, you then have to consider why you feel hurt about missing out and why it is that you missed out. That's not to say the roast idea could not be done. I do not imagine this awards show idea will be the only thing done to celebrate 10 years on JvS. I've already seen ideas for a JoTW time warp back to 1.0 times where everyone has a massive GM/PG fest for a month (or less). So a roast thread or event could certainly be something else done as well for those willing to subject themselves to that  |

Here's one idea going from what Loki mentioned;
A lot of long time players have different characters or different names these days from what they might be better known as.
Maybe a list of former characters that were played by people who are still active today? That way people can be recognized for past works by people who might only be familiar with their current writing.

Simply put, some sort of list where players can list their previous incarnations. Then people who havent read that part of someone's writing can go into the archives and peruse some classic material to put up alongside the writer's more recent work..
