... as of yesterday. And no, Heir to the Empire isn't forty years old. I know some of you like to think that was what started the EU, but nope, it was Splinter of the Mind's Eye, released on February 12th, 1978. Which was... a contentious novel to say the least. But it launched this wider universe that we all love, that JvS owes its existence to. And the films too, they boomed this franchise after all, but all these worlds, all these powers, all this tech we reference? I'd say the EU's influence on this site arguably outweighs the films' influence.
It's too bad it's been closed down with the temporary exception of The Old Republic; would've at least liked to see them bridge the gap between Fate of the Jedi and the Legacy comics before calling it quits, but alas. We'll still celebrate its storied existence through our writingwhile deriding the parts that sucked.
