I mean... you say that. But not everyone does. And labeling an IC event to a faction, kind of precludes people from showing up with whoever they want. Though, Jair Crawford, were you thinking the IC event would be a party? or just a spontaneous, show up to a location and do what ever you wanted?

I would think the OOC event being the party with some form of spontaneous event being elsewhere, possibly not controlled by any faction. Maybe put some bait on a hook, so to speak, with some possible goals that people could reach out for: possible artifacts, vault of knowledge, a person needing defending/killing something that keeps it spontaneous, but gives purpose. I typically avoided such cases in which I had to come up with a complete reason to be there, run with it myself, and hope others decided to intermingle into my story as I into theirs.

Garrick has the right idea! An Imperial Gala on one of the major FO worlds, sponsored by the Emperor himself!

Imperial Gala for the spontaneous RP event? That could work, any non-imperial attending could have legit IC reasons for being there

didn’t actually think the idea would gain any traction Well, location wise, I’d say the best options that immediately become apparent are Bastion (major Imperialist world), Kuat (secondary capital), or Muunilinst (for obvious reasons). And maybe Nic could show up as a guest of honor.
Something along the lines of “the (insert Imperial last name) family, in order to show their love for the Empire, has decided to host a gala for Imperials, and for outsiders to see just how great the Empire is. After starting work on this, the Empero, having caught wind of the idea, has endorsed the party, and had even agreed to show up as a guest of honor. Due to the fact that this is not going to be just for Imperials, the First Order has agreed on a day long truce (think the Christmas truce from WWI), so anyone and everyone can come and see just how awesome the First Order is!”

I mean, that open invite would be hard to swing for non-imperials if they’re part of any Rebel group. Unless you are ok with them potentially sabotaging the thing...
I don’t know... IC parties tend to get too faction exclusive. At least with something like “head to Planet X, where you might find this particular artefact, or be able to reclaim this scrapped ship, or protect this item until you can evacuate it” you don’t have the “the FO is extending an open invite to everyone, even the Rebels that have been terrorising them, cause... Logic”, and there is a lot more to work with.
Why did the Sithies used to work so well? Cause it was a semi IC event, but it was not hosted by any particular faction. You could show up with anyone and be fine as a Rebel to hang out with the Emperor and make friends.

I was thinking that something like the gala would bring in spies and whatnot, introduce an element of espionage to the JvS world. Like gaining access posing as Imperial Officers or something.
Then again it isn't exactly friendly to the whole site, only invested parties. A smuggler for example would have no interest in such a thing, or a mandalorian who I assume would rather be fighting than seeing a point in spying.
Perhaps get group of RP hosts together and create several events? Something for everyone. Then there is the possibility of doing something like the "Most Dangerous Hunt RP" we had years ago, though that wasn't an in universe thing. Which begs the question, are these things meant to be in universe or just in character?

I personally liked the semi-IC party ideas. Allows us to continue to play as our characters while playing the role as if they are just actors and this is a behind the scenes thing. A time when the invisible guardians of the galaxy decided to come out and say, "hold up for a moment, let's have a party and relax for a bit before going back to your routines." lol
Worse comes to worse, we could always hold the rp event in the JotW. Keeps it off the boards and can be just a fun, IC thing that doesn't have to be something added to someone's story.

Well, we always ran the Sithies as semi-IC, so you could bring your character and they could break the third wall a bit. Then there was also the ability to have your writer show up too.
Was a good way to run something where everyone could show up and hang out without worrying about coming up with IC reasons the two sides would come together for a birthday bash.
Keep the party aspect separate from the IC-spont event would be my vote. Makes deciding on the IC event easier, without throwing a bunch of faction specific parties. And we could come up with some neat objectives for people to go after on a random planet.

You guys know that's what the Smugglers Ball was right? If that's what you want it's still going on, it's not just for us smugglers either.
