The Nihl-class Assault Cruiser, named after Darth Nihlius, is the sister of the Harrower-class Dreadnought, which was founded by the resurgent Sith Empire of the Great Galactic War. A significant difference between the two models lies in the labeling of this warship as a ‘slug vessel.’ The meaning of this is that the Nihl-class, unlike its sister, is voided of ventral hangar bays and without the ability to carry troops. As a result, it has been built to be a frontline warship, designed to punch holes through enemy lines and be the spearhead of any naval formation for the Blackguard’s navy. This model is based off the Javelin, a prototype warship created by the Sith Empire, and revived by the Sith Shipwright, Cirdan Spiros. It is a part of the Spiran Reform, an effort to revitalize the Blackguard’s navy and focus on faster and smaller ships which are designed to hunt in ‘wolf packs’ against larger and more powerful warships.
The purpose of this warship, the Nihl-class was to serve a strong frontline warship, similar to that of its predecessor, the Harrower-class Dreadnought, and capable of taking on a Vindicator-class Cruiser. It lacks starfighter and troop transport capabilities, making it necessary to have a good escort. Its firepower is comparable to the Harrower-class, 20 turbolaser batteries, 20 double heavy turbolaser cannons, 10 heavy ion cannons, and 10 tractor beam projectors. Each single battery consists of 6 individual cannons. Reinforced hard-points across the hull, particularly in the forward bow and 'prongs' of the ship enabled it to ram into enemy vessels.
