As another product of Sienar Fleet Systems, the Immobilizer 418 cruiser was based on the design of the Vindicator-class heavy cruiser, sacrificing most of it's weaponry for the tasks of creating a stable interdiction field, which would, once activated, hinder any ships to leave the system with a hyperdrive jump. Like their Vindicator-class cousins, the so-called Interdictor cruisers had the appearence of small star destroyers, solely with the difference of featuring four large globes, housing gravity well projectors. Like most interdiction vessels, the Immobilizer 418 cruiser was developed by the Galactic Empire to prevent enemy ships from leaving a system, thus proving to be very efficent at blockading rebell hit & run tactics within a system.
Most famously Grand Admiral Thrawn utilized Immobilizers to an extend that it would result in a tactic, known as the Thrawn Pincer, which allowed allied vessels to execute a micro-hyperspace jump to the vector of the gravity well, yanking them out of hyperspace near an enemy vessel.
Similiar to the Vindicator-cruiser, the Immobilizer 418 cruiser features a Class 2 hyperdrive along with a Class 8 backup hyperdrive, while also having Navigation Systems installed. Although a minimum crew of 1,500 men was required to operate the ship, it normally features around 2800 crewmembers for full functionality, while it could carry solely 80 troops on board for self-defence measures. Furthermore, the ship featured a hangar in which 24 star fighters of the TIE line and 4 shuttles could be stored. With 20 quad laser cannons, the ship relied mostly on starfighter support, when it wasn't escorting other capital ships, although it's presence still scared most pirate and smuggler vessels away.
