An IF sniper positioned himself nicely. In his little cubbyhole he made a coffee, smoke a cigarette then mumbled aloud
-IF Sniper- "First foreigner that comes in my sights... Force or no Force sensitive nonsense - I put a cap in his chest...."
He sat waiting with visions of little green sentient beings and the emperor men rolling across a target range. Smoke bellowed from the remains of the Mortus and the shelling of the beach went on unabated. A spine chilling hum rang out as the soil of the manmade beach was torn from the city structure and crashed into the open sea. Loud howls of terror, wailing voices barking out orders, gunfire, explosions and more filled the ear. The personal tale of the sniper now became overwhelmed and drawn back into the wider plot as a mass of troops flooded into the city. Now things were truly becoming frightening

As troops waited for a long haul officers spoke with Selkath dignitaries. Communication between the IF side and the Manaan natives had always been good and their was no need to destroy that relationship. The An agreement did not even need to be reached; both sides were merely continuing well established relations. Selkath pledged to continue continue offering shelter, food and information. This could be very prolonged and bloody

Ahto city was bugged to an outrageous degree, thanks to the paranoia of the illustrious psychopath whom ruled the place for decades. And as such that no concerted effort whatsoever was made to remove any of these during the invasion, even if some actually knew the man, the saga of these fine freedom fighting folk became a stalemate among the criminal element universe wide:

A Wayfarer sent a distress signal to shore. The ship was allowed into a lonely hanger. The crew burst from the ship followed by the boys. Ciarán and Laoch, weapons drawn readied for a battle. Ciaran bellowed -Ciaran- "You know, I often reflect and ask why it could not have been me that spontaneously combusted...."
The boys looked around them -Ciaran- "Damn! We really know how to wreak things..... Shaking his head laughing -Ciaran- "And dig the activity - didn't these people babble some nonsense about 'returning the place to its former glory' or some jive like that? Is it ever rockin" A Selkath passing waved -Ciaran- "Peace brother... or sister. Whatever gender you are." Laoch carefully looked from left to right. He could see IF troops still awaiting the final battle. Priceless.... They already knew the situation on Manaan. Seeing it was something else. Limp, if somewhat inflated exhibitions attempting to claim control of they planet were an abject failure. He spoke aloud unconsciously: -Laoch- "Information from spy ware and information from natives told this already but seeing it was another thing altogether." Every sentient being within earshot spoke in unison -Every sentient being with in earshot- "Information from spy ware and information from natives told this already but seeing it was another thing."

Selkath delegations and individuals cascaded on the pair in a mass sea. Animated discussion of the situation on Manaan and the condition of the IF dominated the discussion. Laoch shot Ciarán a mortified gaze when the subject of An Tiarna was directly brought forward. It was Ciarán who taking an elder’s hand quietly enlightened the crowd as to the bizarre circumstances that had so recently passed. The crowd fell silent. An Tiarna was a lunatic. And Manaan had prospered under his benevolent, if quite sporadically violent dictatorship. The flamboyant display of aggression by these self-acclaimed liberators had left Manaan an empty shell. IF troops had paid a considerable cost. This was transparent and had affected the natives dramatically. It was also obvious that those remaining were enjoying near unanimous favor of the natives. Indeed vows of support were offered vehemently. One Selkath elder pronounced
-Selkath Elder-
“We stand with your people!!!”
Murmured agreement grew in volume until it seemed that the entire beach was chanting in support of the IF. Under the volume of the cheers Ciarán addressed the elders present
-Ciarán-
“From a strictly tactical position we will need your support.”
The same elder responded
- Selkath Elder-
“We will fight with you!!!”
None disagreed. Ciarán then spoke with them of methods. The Selkath were historically known for resistance to unwanted foreigners. Quiet protest and sabotage plus outright insurrection were almost second nature to the natives of Manaan. The seeds were already sowed; Ciarán merely nourished them. Indeed Ciarán was displaying fine leadership skills . An insurrection was brewing

A group of Selkath approach the group. They are respected, as one can tell by the way the others effortlessly part to allow them through. The come to a halt before Ciarán. A confrontation appears to be brewing. The Selkath at the lead speaks -Kommentar- "I am Kommentar." Looking briefly to Laoch then returning the vacany gaze to Ciarán, with hand gesturing to the other four -Kommentar- "These are Ga’wanar, Shak Los, Jhassa and Sslashekethar." The Selkath was silent for some time, staring through Ciarán -Kommentar- "We offer condolences on the great loss that you men have suffered." Breathing in with a eerie gill flapping noise -Kommentar- "We accepted and supported your Grandfather as a ruler, and we pass that loyalty unto you." Kommentar bowed deeply, followed by Ga’wanar, Shak Los, Jhassa then Sslashekethar -Kommentar- "Might we scheme and devise our unified reaction?" The Selkath congregation had slowly but surely became larger and larger. Talk of a full scale insurrection was brewing

Laoch watched the assembly approach. Quite the show. Ciaran also watched and intently listened to the Selkath talk. At the end he almost offered a hand but realized why the man did not; he might unintentionally poison Ciaran. Man making love must be no small task with these... things. He knew that the Togs had a habit of eating a the occassional fish person or ten, every day, and that The Old man was unpredictably prone to murderous fits of rage. But. But here he could see the type of loyalty that the man inspired. It made him proud. As did it illustrate the achievement he himself must reach. It was inspiring as opposed to disparaging. Laoch suddenly felt an near intoxicating urge for fish and chips but chose not to ask. Gesturing to a table he took a seat. Laoch remained standing behind him

The Selkath one by one took seats. One would have assumed that Kommentar would be first but it was Ga’wanar and Shak Los, both female, who shared that honor, then Sslashekethar followed by Jhassa and lastly Kommentar. Gave some idea of the power order, the Selkath being a very orderly people. Kommentar was definitely respected and a spokesman. All remained silent

Ciaran spoke "In case introductions were lost in the mix up I know your names, my own is Ciaran Dubh." Gesturing behind him -Ciaran- " This is Laoch Bán Dubh. Obviously you understand our place in the family. As Grandchildren." Offering a smile "We bust legs for the Old man, well did. Now?" He added -Ciaran- "Now we head the family." Face growing cool and flat and his tone low -Ciaran- "Now is payback time." Hands flattening on the table -Ciaran- "But vengeance is a dish best served cold." Catching one and all with his gaze -Ciaran- "And I have every intention of serving din-din to some." A servant at that moment laid out food at the centre of the table, wine, whiskey and porter then stood waiting. Around them it was transparent that the Selkath masses were organising rapidly. The still present IF troops could be seen in the shadows ready to strike

The Selkath listened closely. When Ciaran finished a deathly quiet pause gung in the air. At long last one Selkath replied. Here the pecking order became clearer. The spokesman, Kommentar said nothing. His word reflected the opinion of the elders as a whole but was not binding. Now a voice spoke up in an authoritative manner
- Ga’wanar-
"None can deny that your loses have been great indeed."
Head taking a slight upward slope - Ga’wanar-
"And your loses are our loses; we stand behind you 100%."
Placing her undivided attention on Ciaran she opened the door to discussion - Ga’wanar-
"Where do we start?"
One Selkath , Jhassa , spoke slow and deliberately
“In my time I have seen some most bizarre things transpire among you unholy lot.”
Then Jhassa abruptly demanded
“Can you not resurrect him?”
All of the Selkath sprung up awaiting a reply

Ciaran listened intently. To the vow of support nodding he spoke -Ciaran- "Thank you." The forceful question posed by Jhassa struck a cord as did the desperation in the eyes of all the Selkath. He responded after a long hard exhale
-Ciaran- "He... it's hard to explain...." -Before he could continue Laoch finished the thought -Laoch- "As much as I am sure that many - most - of the poor souls stuck with him there in the great hereafter would celebrate his departure...." Face contorting as he struggled for words Ciaran gracefully cut in -Ciaran- " He'd find that unnatural." The finality in that simple statement of fact left all wordless for a long moment

At long last -Ga’wanar Solemnly addressed the ….
- Ga’wanar-
“We have cared for the injured IF warriors.”
Looking down then back up
- Ga’wanar-
“Cremated and respectfully disposed of your dead. And we will continue to do such.”
That vow hung in the air

Laoch observed quietly. Ciaran listened nodding in agreement then spoke -Ciaran- "Then we have an understanding between us. We will go to our keep but return frequently. All of our remaining troops will defend you to the last man." His words were simple but honorable. An officer approached speaking quietly with Laoch. He offered Laoch a document, which he took and the officer left. Troops maintained a watchful eye over the proceedings. Ciaran stood, gave the Selkath delegation a courteous bow then joined Laoch and the pair walked away slowly

As if on cue, when Ciarán stood and announced his parting, Ga’wanar stood, then Shak Los, followed by Sslashekethar, Jhassa after and lastly Kommentar concluded their discussion. A passionately xenophobic people, they had quite irregularly embraced An Tiarna and his lot. But the relationship was fruitful for all, so now they had accepted the continuity of this strange marriage of convenience. Still, before parting a flurry of words were expelled. First Sslashekethar asserted
-Sslashekethar-
“These Leech seems quite aloof but leaves little doubt to the imagination that he is a serious man.”
Looking around at her fellow elders
-Sslashekethar-
“And Carrion… most sly individual indeed. So….”
Shak Los quite abruptly cut in
-Shak Los-
“They are useful partners.”
Jhassa atated
-Jhassa-
“I humbly agree.”
Kommentar’s mouth opened but Ga’wanar rolled over him
-Ga’wanar-
“His grandfather was an honorable man and I see that spirit in Ciarán.”
Looking to each one of them
-Ga’wanar-
“But a deal has already been struck on Kolto.”
Holding her gaze
-Ga’wanar-
“We have established that the interests of Ciarán and Laoch we support so long as these do not conflict with our interests.”
Gaze how on the table
-Ga’wanar-
“So past all that let us dispense with talking and begin.”
Voice taking on a most condescending tone
-Ga’wanar-
“Or need I lay all out in simple terms what needs doing?”
None among the group rose any question as to her statement. They all bowed, again in neat order, first to last, and walked away. The Selkath masses descended on them and animated exchange commenced. Orders were given and immediately put into action
