With times changing and new realities taking shape, Gavin has found the need to craft for himself a new sword. Having crafted a multitude of weapons over the years, he wanted to make something far beyond anything else he had before and to do so required the best metals avalible. That only left a single choice: Songsteel. It would be a sign of his mastery as a blacksmith and a weapon that truly connected with him as a person. As such, he has sought out the few records there were in finding locations where it could be mined. Having little luck, only a single place came under his gaze: the Cularin asteroid belt. With no other lead, he set out hoping that he could find some desposits among the many fragments of rock. Little would he guess at the dangers awaiting him and the others seeking the same prize as him.....

Emerging from hyperspace, Gavin's YT-1930 appeared in the edge of the Cularin system. For a few minutes, the ship rested idly as the man looked out at the system before him. The chances of him ever coming to this area of space would have been small, but it so happened that there was something here that he required. That was, he hoped it was here. Sitting back in his chair, he thought back on the events that led him here.
Two years prior, he had come across a woman named Mariah Shadows on Iridonia. It was a rather interesting encounter, one that had done much to awaken the fire of his spirit. For so long had he been just living and wandering. And only a few months before their meeting did he finally choose to settle and established his reasons for being there and for living. Yet, she had made him, for the first time in a long time, actually think and question those reasons. In the end, they had set a duel as both seemed to love a good spar. A year later, she returned and they fought. Doing so had begun to help him see the true nature of his fighting style and what fit him the best, despite his skills and abilities as a warrior. It finally came to a head when he visited the newly formed Dark Jedi Order on Ambria a couple of months later. While there, the mention of the large sword he carried and its style came up by another in the order, which finally sealed the deal.
Since he learned how to forge a weapon in his early twenties, he had, for some reason, opted for larger swords, from broadswords to claymores. Each required strength, which he had worked to use the Force to handle with a single hand and use decently. But his form was based around speed with a mixture of strength. And with the new events happening, it was time to make a change. It was time to set his larger sword aside and make something more fitting of his style. But it was more than that. He needed the proper metal. He had used cortosis and phrik, even beskar over the years, along with many other metals. But aside from lightsaber resistance, there was nothing special about it. But what he sought now was Songsteel. Rare and reserved for the finest swords, it was light and lightsaber resistant, usually requiring a lot of work to shape it properly. He wanted a weapon that would work the best for his new style, as well as one of his finest pieces of art. He already had the design mapped out. All he needed was the required materials and it would gain life.
But first, he had to find that elusive metal before anything else could be done. Taking a deep breath, he sat forward in his chair as he pressed forward, making his way towards the asteroid belt.

Dropping out of hyperspace on the edge of the system a lone Lambda-class shuttle. Unable to pilot a ship himself Panno instead elected to use one of the Imperials many pilot droids. Since the defeat of the Galactic Alliance over Dac there had finally been room for Pano to take a breather. One of his most important duties, repairing the Imperials Knights armour had finally slowed down. Sure there was the occasional damage but nothing like compared to battle damage. During the down time he had elected to search out materials to further his skills. Searching out leads to various planets that held the rare materials needed for armour smithing.
Some of it the Empire had acquired through its contracts with Solomon Mines who had set up mining outposts on various mineral rich planets but one thing it lacked was access to a large amounts of lightsaber resistant metals. Beyond Cortosis and small amounts of Phrik Panno had only limited experience working with other resistant metals. He was here to try his mettle against Songsteel. If he could find it.

It had taken nearly an hour of travel from the outer reaches of the system before finally reaching the edge of the Cularin asteroid belt. Having set the ship on autopilot, Gavin had taken the time to rest in his chambers, reflecting and meditating on the coming task. He knew that getting ahold of Songsteel wouldn't be a walk in the park. Navigating an asteroid belt was far from an easy task, requiring him to take it slow while keeping his senses alert and eyes on the scanners. Then landing on an asteroid was not as simple as landing on a planet, especially the small, more actively spinning ones. Then, when all that was done, he had to actually find the metal.
As he reached his destination, the alarms went off, alerting him to his arrival. Giving off a sigh, he pushed himself up from his bed and made his way into the cockpit. He disengaged the autopilot as he took a seat, the view of floating rocks packed closer than he'd like resting right in front of him. A smart man would turn back, knowing this task wasn't worth the effort. However, Gavin wasn't some ordinary man. He desired this metal with a passion and he had made the trip all the way out here so there was no way he was backing down now. Giving a half shake of his head and taking a deep breath, he pressed forward, making sure to take it easy and not challenge the belt's temperament.

The trip was slow and careful as Gavin maneuvered his way through the asteroid belt. He was reaching out with all his senses to ensure he could navigate everything with decent accuracy. All the while, he occasionally glanced to an additional scanner he had added for this task when he had a moment to spare. Next to him was a scanner meant for detecting mineral deposits, specifically, metal. Without it, he could spend years searching these asteroids in hopes to find Songsteel, something he didn't have time to deal with.
Minutes passed by without the sensor picking up anything. It was becoming frustrating as he wondered if there was anything even left. Suddenly, he received a hit on a nearby asteroid, which caused him to smirk. Pushing in, he made his approach, knowing landing the ship would be tricky. First, he looked around for any caves to help guide him but found none. The rock, itself, wasn't very large either. Still, he wasn't about to let any chances slip by. Rolling the ship over, he brought the ship in slowly, working to match its spin. A careful hand and alert senses were required now. Several minutes past as he got close, but had to suddenly pull away as a rogue asteroid came flying at him.
Letting go a few heavy breaths, he tried again, taking it slowly once more. Ten minutes of work went into it before he finally touched down and locked the ship in place. Grabbing the sensor, he took off for the boarding ramp, not wasting a single moment in case something else decided it wanted to get to close and bump him. Dressing in a form-fitting environment suit, Gavin departed his ship and began scouring the surface.

Gavin moved about the asteroid, the scanner pointing him in the direction of the source it was picking up. He had hoped to land close, but it seemed not to be. He could only hope that it wasn't much farther. The steps he took had to be careful as he moved, so as not to let himself get tossed into the vacuum of space. Gravity was almost non-existent, making it that much harder.
Minutes passed by as his search went on. He was starting to wonder if the sensor was bugging out when it finally told him he was standing on top of it. Moving over the area, he knelt down and brushed some of the dirt and dust away to reveal a bit of a metallic presence. He had found metal, but the question now was it Songsteel? Removing his lightaber, he activated it and plunged it into the deposit. If it was what he hoped, its properties would resist his lightsaber, at least a bit. Unfortunately, it didn't take much for his lightsaber to pierce the metal. Letting out a sigh, he deactivated it and made his way back to his ship. One bust already, but there were many more options left.
As he made his way back to his ship, he saw that some of the pieces of asteroids were getting closer, a few making their way towards his ship. Once again, removing his lightsaber, he dove it into the rock, hoping to use it as an anchor as his free hand focused the Force into it was shot out in a Force Push at the fragments. He felt his body being forced back as he did, which prompted his grip to become tighter on his hilt. Just before impact, he saw his push make contact, if only just and pushed the rock off course to land about twenty feet away. Sighing, he quickly made his way back aboard his ship and took off the second he could.
The search was still on.

Time pressed on as Gavin continued to navigate the asteroid field. For the longest time, the sensors picked up nothing, returning the man to a frustrated state. It made him wonder again why he chose this metal over any other. Phrik, Cortosis, even any of the other metals used in making swords would have been far easier to obtain. For non-lightsaber resistant materials, he could have easily infused the Force into it to make it capable. But it was the challenge behind finding it, behind forging it that drew him in. That, and he had never used it before. For a blacksmith dedicated to his craft, how could he not try and find it?
Before long, the sensor once again started going off as it picked up another signal. It was faint, but he had it locked. Slowly moving around the flowing asteroids, he lined himself up towards the area the metal was detected in. Minutes passed before he saw the large asteroid that suggestively held what he sought. Landing would be much easier this time around. Flying around to locate a good spot to land, he noticed a cave. Hanging back for a moment to think, it wasn't long before he pressed inward. Moving into the cavern, the light of the star of the system faded, requiring him to activate the lights of his ships.
As the sensor resonated strongly, he brought the ship down softly. Soon departing with the sensor in hand after equipping his helmet, he moved deeper into the cave..

Minutes passed by as Gavin moved deeper into the cave. The beeps began to grow faster and faster until he eventually hit the spot where the sensor said the metal was. Looking around, he saw nothing but the sensor couldn't have been wrong. As such, he 8gnited his lightsaber and began slucing through the cavern walls. For a solid minute, he foubd nothing as chunks of rocks fell to the floor. Just as he was about to consider it a fluke or thd metal too deep, the wall began to glisten. Driving his saber into what guessed was what he sought, he frowned as it pierced it through with relative ease. Another dud.
With a sigh, he started heading back. As he went, he felt the slightedt of rumbles and heard something. But as he reached his ship, it all grew more intense. Looking back in the dim darkness, he saw what looked like something moving and fast. He didn't have to guess much was coming as he ran aboard and took off as rocks fell around him from the movement. Punching it as fast as he could go, he prayed it was fast enough. Luckily, he broke free of the cave and turned around to see what had come after him. As he expected, a Cularin slug had made the cave its home and Gavin got by jyst barely from being lunch. Giving a sigh, he headed on, hoping to find what he sought soon.

The hours passed by as Gavin continued hus search. Yet, he found nothing on sensors. He could only hope that his trip out here didn't become a bust. The sword he had in mind to craft was one of the best and most beautiful weapons he'd ever craft. It had to be this metal.
His thoughts were interrupted as his ship shook. Alarms went off as his sensor picked up movement around him. Four signatures moving quick. "Damn it." He knew pirates and the like worked out here but he had hoped to be in and out before they noticed. Pushing hard on the throttle, Gavin picked up speed in an attempt to loose them.
Using the Force as a guide, he navigated the asteroid field as blaster bolts and missiles rained around him. He kept his approach as close as possible as he passed by each chunk of rock, hoping they'd hit. Luck began to favor him as one disappeared, then a second. Only two more left. But his luck ran out as a barrage of missiles came at him. Broken pieces of rock flew around him, pelting the ship. He had to get away and off thier sensors. Flying into one, he saw his chance as he dodged a missile, but barely impactibg the rock behind him, blocking their view as the last rocket blasted clise to him. Pulling up into a diverting cave, he dropped his landing gear and made a rough landing, the craft slamming hard and sluding across the cave. She held in there though as system were powered down.
And fron there, he waited, listening to any possible echoes of the pirate ships heading by.

The minutes passed by as Gavin waited patiently. From where he sat, he saw no flood lights or hear no sounds of engines echoing around the rocky cavern. It was as close of a sign as he’d get to being clear. Powering the ship back up, it creaked and groaned after the sudden summit down and landing. After a few minutes of coaxing, the ship came to life and lifted off, heading out of the cave and back out into open space. He couldn’t see anyone around, which was a good sign.
But the situation had presented a problem. These pirates now knew he was here. He’d have to deal with them first before moving along with his plans. Otherwise, they’d be on the constant prowl for him, which would, at best, hold him up, or at worst, risk taking him down. It wasn’t a risk he was willing to entertain. Thus he needed to find the first and take down the sensors if anything. That would buy him the time he needed to finish up, hopefully.
Reaching out with the Force, he sought out the closest gathering of life. Another few minutes passed as he sat there, ship hovering in place until he finally felt the gathering essence of life. It had to be their base. Taking a deep breath, he took off to deal with them.
