Description:
As part of the specialty roles of the Aesir line of ships, the Somnus-class Ion Attack Cruiser was crafted to bring ships and bases down quickly while limiting the amount of physical damage the target would sustain. Knowing that there would always be times in which capturing enemy ships and bases was more valuable than destroying them completely, it was clear that such tasks could be difficult due to the usual lower amount of ion weaponry compared to regular laser fire. The answer Hadur and Lyncitech came up with was the Somnus. With every weapon fitted being of the ion variety, these ships could move in when called and quickly bring down an enemy's systems so they could be boarded in a swift manner.
Moderately armored and quick so as to handle being on the front lines for an extended period of time, the Somnus carries five heavy, triple barrel ion cannons, twenty dual ion cannons, twenty dual point defense ion cannons, and four ion pulse missile tubes capable of holding ten missiles each. When in need of a little backup when under fire, it can release twelve starfighters.
