VCX-820 Escort Freighter Ship Class: Light Freighter Ship Role: Escort Freighter/Transport/Patrol Craft Ship Length: 20.2 meters Agility (A): 3 Defensive (D): 4 Offensive (O): 4 Speed (S): 3 Special Gear: 1 (Passenger Space) Description:The VCX-820 escort freighter was a military-grade freighter originally designed for the Imperial Remnant as a small warship. Designed several years before the Yuuzhan Vong War, the VCX-820 was a heavy yet fast flying-guns platform and sported eight mandible-mounted autoblasters that were capable of quickly overwhelming shields in a torrent of blaster fire. Because it was designed to military specifications, it could easily guard convoys of otherwise defenseless bulk freighters and commerce craft, yet despite this, was reasonably priced on the open market. Because of its affordability and versatility, at the outbreak of the Yuuzhan Vong many smugglers and private entities sought a ship that was fast and agile, yet heavily defended: the VCX-820 filled this role well, and as a result, many larger trade-firms invested in these vessels, making it quite common during the hard times of the New Republic. With military graded shielding, its defenses were above average and its impressive loadout of three heavy dual laser turrets, eight mandible-mounted auoblasters and single proton torpedo launcher capable of holding sixteen torpedoes was enough to give many pirates pause. Due to its role, it required a pilot, a co-pilot, and six gunners and could carry only three extra passengers and one metric ton of cargo.

It is currently listed with a MAD stat of 17. Something needs to be lowered to fit within the maximum 15 points.

Canon ships can break the MAD system. It becomes the price paid for dropping it to Heavy starfighter when its function serves more as Support.

Its given (wookiepedia) stats are well below x-wing (the standard used to generally determine what is a 3 for a fighter craft) for both speed & agility. Its description is comparing it to other freighters, not fighter craft. This being the case, I could very well see it being listed with a 2 in both S & A stats. (a change that would also bring it down to the 15 point limit).

Actually, the speed stat has not been judged accordingly to class. The Imperial Star Destroyer rates at a speed of 975 km/h and sits at a 3 on speed. Nearly every freighter falls in line similarly as well, some freighters rated at 3 while having speeds equal to an X-wing. But the Imperial star destroyer is only 25 km faster than this and only 75 km slower than the X-wing.

I would give my approval. This is a 3 for a freighter which is different than a 3 for a starfighter comparison. Given the speed stat, on the wookieepedia article, I would feel safe that this is a 3 stat for speed.

As someone who used to be an expert on Corellian ships, this is possibly the most heavily armed Corellian freighter (in canon), so having a very high rating is plausible.

It had already been approved once before for the stats it previously had. In which case, I feel that this specific submission should be changed back to the stats it originally had been approved for. |

Edited the offense stat back down to 4. Only stat changed.

Not that it matters too much but before anyone gets bullied into stat changes I would like to say something. While I can understand concern this thing is armed to the teeth for a starfighter and anything short of a 5 seems like a disservice to the ship, but that’s just my unprofessional opinion

At first, I thought about responding about feeling it was heavily armed enough to the point of needing a 5 for offense but thought on one of my recent custom submissions which carry three fewer pieces of weaponry than this and is rated at a 4. So, in the end, I felt this was worth a 4.

Given the lengthy debate in regards to this, and the fact that is has been edited, backed by sound reasoning, I will toss my approval on it. Though, I believe it needs a second definitive approval from another RPA, as from the context, Nic said he *would* give approval, not that he actually has.

Approve! However, not all the RPA have made an opinion, nor stated that they had anything to say. The RPA was notified, multiple times, that there were ongoing discussions. I had not given my approval because I had not viewed this thread's discussion to be over. Or, rather, wasn't sure if it was over. I didn't want to give my approval, then have another RPA member bring something up that contradicted my approval. Seeing though as this is being concluded, I will give my approval. |
