Hi guys, so while we do have a couple ongoing discussions happening, I figured we should start this one since it is important.
Basically, there are a few ships that exist in Canon that essentially break the MAD system for one reason or another (Eclipse, K-wing, etc). And we need to figure out a way of dealing with these particular ships.
While I believe some discussion was briefly touched upon in the past, it was never in-depth. So any and all thoughts are welcome. It is important to keep in mind that this involves CANON ships. CUSTOM ships will not be considered nor be involved in this discussion, as they MUST fit within the bounds of the MAD system.

The original intent of the MAD ship was to allow those canon ships to have a higher point number, both because it more accurately reflects how they are and because it can encourage the use of canon ships. So long as it's restricted to the Canon ships only (which clearly is your intent) it shouldn't be a problem.

I know that, prior to the MAD system, I solely used the FO's original faction ship, an Eclipse-class, on NPC warships. The Eclipse's superlaser already bans the usage of the ship. However, even without the superlaser, both the Sovereign and the Eclipse SSDs still have a very very reckoned arsenal at their disposal. Perhaps when it comes to the case of those SSDs, players could choose to opt out the superlaser (which has been done before) or only use it in agreed scenarios. Like if the Eclipse was to be used against players, I had intended to ask them if they were already with the superlasers usage and if they didn't like the idea, I wouldn't use it.

I mean... so long as we were allowing Canon ships as the only ones to kind of... "Break" the system, then I mean it seems like a fairly straight forward solution then.

Yeah. Canon ones have been around and we have seen examples of their firepower. Its a bit hard if someone tries to make something new. Then its sort of hard for us to determine through the MAD system.

Yeah. Seems like a good way to handle things, since that was kind of the idea from the get go. Going to leave this here, and see if anyone else has some thoughts to contribute.

So after doing some thinking and a bit of research, I've come to the same conclusion as Nic. Or to be more accurate what Nic had said on Sept 6. I see that as being the only of doing things that doesn't upset everyone or make people feel discouraged in participating in space combat.

given this has been open a few days, and seems we all agree with how things should be handled, we'll move forward with getting this codified into the Database system.
