A spiritual successor to the TIE/in Interceptor, the TIE Vector was designed with maneuverability and striking power in mind, to serve as a vessel to screen fleets from starfighter attack in battle. However, Garrick Needa’s former mentor, Grand Admiral Thrawn, had expressed interest in the Rebel counterpart to the ship, and so the newer admiral had kept that in mind when designing his interceptor. As such, it was designed to be supremely fast, with acceleration to match that of the A-Wing Starfighter, along with extremely high maneuverability and powerful weapons systems designed to keep it on the cutting edge of starfighter design. Indeed, the ship’s engines were so powerful that without the S-Foils that made up the wings, the fighter would burn itself apart during combat.
