BTL-S8 K-wing Assault StarfighterShip Class: Starfighter Ship Role: Heavy Starfighter/Bomber Ship Length: 16 meters Agility (A): 2 Defensive (D): 4 Offensive (O): 5 Speed (S): 2 Special Gear: 2 (Detachable Cockpit, SLAM) Description:The K-wing assault starfighter was produced by Koensayr Manufacturing, the same company responsible for producing the venerable Y-wing. Like many other New Republic starfighters, the K-wing was designed to excel in a specific primary role in combat while retaining the flexibility to serve secondary functions if needed. The K-wing starfighter's primary missions included precision bombing of planetary targets, slow-moving capital ships, and spaceborne installations. It also performed secondary missions as an escort or reconnaissance ship. To fulfill its role in the New Republic Defense Fleet, the K-wing carried an unusually large arsenal for a vessel of its size. The hull had a total of 18 hard points, five on each upper wing and four on each lower wing, to allow technicians to arm the ship with a large variety of weapons including flechétte and concussion missiles, proton and other sublight torpedoes, thermal and other inertial bombs, small space mines, and T-33 plasma torpedoes. When attacked by enemy fighters, the K-wing could return fire with a short-range quad turbolaser turret with multi-stage lasers located at the fore and a medium-range twin laser cannon turret mounted on the top of its command module. Also, the K-wing could be outfitted with slugthrower cannons on the hardpoints for additional short-range firepower. Like most New Republic fighters, it was also equipped with a deflector shield.

I was wondering when the K-wing would finally make an appearance. Considering our agreement in the matter of breaking the MAD system and this ship being expected, it falls into what I expect of the ship. Approved.

So this might just be me (and another person), but aren’t we supposed to be judging ships by their longest dimensions? The K-Wing is, by all accounts, much wider than it is long, so should we take a look at that! Just cause according to a certain member of our community’s reckoning, this ship is 30 meters across, which places it squarely in the support category...

Putting it as a support type would also require an adjustment to its stats. However, compared to ships in that range, it would function much more on par than against fighters.
EDIT: Ok following a debate in chat, the Whills have stated that this particular craft (despite the oversized wings) will be listed as a fighter craft.
That taken into account I would suggest the following stat line:
A:2 D:5 O:5 S:2 SG:2 (escape pod, SLAM)
The reasons for this are as follows. The craft is reported to be able to "Keep pace" with Y-wings "Despite its larger size". The Y-wing stat for A & S is 2 each.
In terms of Offensive & Defensive power, it was far & above any other fighter craft on the field. This was in very large part (I feel) due to the fact it was more or less a gunboat with a fighter designation (you see similar power levels & feats with things like the Skipray & other gunboats). In several situations examples of this craft took impressive beatings before unleashing impressive amounts of firepower & returning safely. In addition, its weaponry & payload could be completely customized for any given mission with minimal time.

I made the changes to the speed and agility to bring them down, while bringing the Defense up a point. However, while it has been established that canon ships do not have to adhere strictly to the 15 point limit, I can’t help but feel like 18 points is a little too much.
After all, this is meant to give an idea of its relative ability in the stats, to help people not particularly strong with Fleet battles figure out how it would fair. So I feel like a 4 in Defence is fair. But if anyone else or any of the RPA feel differently and still feel this needs to be upped to a 5 in defence, let me know and I will put it up.

I feel like this is fairly balanced now.
