Description:
Taking design inspiration from the Aurek-class tactical strikefighter and the successful X-wing series of Starfighters, was born the S5 R-Wing Starfighter. It featured the typical long body of the X-Wing, combined with swivel mounted S-Foils associated with the Aurek-class and the U-Wing starfighter models.
During landing and non-combat operations, the R-Wing's s-foils would remain in a folded back configuration. This allowed the starfighter to be more compactly stored within hangar bays. While in combat operations, the s-foils would swing out, allowing the 4 swivel mounted laser cannons to go from static firing positions to dynamic firing positions. This provided the R-Wing with a wider firing arc which could track enemy targets, without a need to change the entire crafts direction.
The R-wing came equipped with 5 engine units, increased maneuvering thruster capabilities, and a hyperdrive. It was also equipped with an ordinance launcher that could take 9 Missiles, 6 Torpedoes, or 3 Rockets.
