Description:
The C-ROC Gozanti-class cruiser was a shipyard custom configuration for the Gozanti-class cruiser, manufactured by the Corellian Engineering Corporation.
Initially offered to the Imperial Navy as an armed long-range transport, the Navy rejected the configuration as inappropriate to the order of battle, instead choosing the Imperial freighter configuration of Gozanti. Despite this setback, the C-ROC became popular with both legitimate cargo operations and criminal operations, becoming especially popular on the Outer Rim due to its combination of hauling capacity, rugged construction, and heavy armament.
Ultimately the C-ROC never became wildly successful like other CEC products, but remained steady enough that CEC continued to produce updates and replacements for the ship's various systems well into the rise of the Empire. Beyond this, many ships were pressed into service as ersatz capital ships by various rebel cells, and, while unsuited for use as front-line warships, the C-ROC performed admirably well against the solitary (and often older) vessels the Imperial Navy used to maintain law on the galactic fringe.
Many modifications, both cosmetic and mechanical, separated the C-ROC from its predecessor. Most noticeable was the hull; unlike the slab-sided original, the C-ROC made use of an armored sloping hull that provided additional protection by deflecting incoming blasts and ordnance more efficiently than its predecessor.
Additionally, while the ship's armor and heavy shielding remained largely unchanged from the original design, the notoriously slow Girodyne Ter58 ion turbine engines were replaced with five newer and more efficient Novaldex JV-80 ion drives, giving the craft a considerable boost in speed. As a result, many owners - such as the infamous Cikatro Vizago with his four-engined Broken Horn - routinely relied on the C-ROC's speed rather than its firepower to escape danger.
Widening the divide between the C-ROC and the original design was its cargo capacity; by eliminating the former design's cranked delta wings and replacing them with outrigger cargo trays, the C-ROC could carry modular shipping containers similar to those used by the GR-75 medium transport. Combined with a completely redesigned interior, the C-ROC had vastly superior cargo hauling capacity at the expense of the original design's noted combat and fleet support ability, capable of hauling 40,000 metric tons as well as 20 passengers. Mounting two pairs of twin heavy laser cannons and two quad laser cannon turrets, the C-ROC was capable of handling most threats without trouble.
