Being produced by Kuat Drive Yards as a counter-insurgency ship for the Galactic Empire as the Nebulon-B was originally designed to defend Imperial convoys against raids by Rebel starfighters. The EF76 was used extensively by both sides in the Galactic Civil War and even afterwards by forces of the Imperial Remnant. In their starfleets, Imperial Admirals Thrawn and Zaarin often used Nebulon-B frigates as command ships in lieu of the standard Star Destroyer.
Run by a crew of 854 men, 66 gunners and 75 passengers, the Nebulon-B escort frigate in Imperial service was mainly working for as an escort and long range patrol ship, therefore providing space for 24 TIE fighters and a Lambda-Shuttle within expanded hangar space, located within the middle section of the ship.
As weapon systems, the Nebulon-B featured 12 medium turbolaser turrets, 12 point defense cannons, two tractorbeam projectors and one Warhead launcher, equipped with advanced concussion missiles or torpedos.
