Built as a system patrol craft or rapid response ship, the Shadows-Class Corvette came to fruition as a need to patrol the Blackguard's territory increased. Rather than sparing larger warships for system patrol, law enforcement, customs searches and intercepting pirates or raiders, the Shadows was born out of necessity. While initially designed for patrol, the Shadows could support a fleet with additional firepower or fighter screening, though on its own it wasn't capable of standing up to much larger vessels for long. As with most Blackguard vessels, the hull was strengthened and streamlined to increase its durability in ship-to-ship combat.

Armed with 6 dual turbolaser cannons, 4 quad laser cannons, 2 point defense laser cannons (turreted), a single proton torpedo launcher capable of holding 10 torpedoes and a tractor beam projector, the Shadows could also carry a total of 60 troops/prisoners/passengers.
