Built and designed at the Dromund Kalakar Shipyards, the Thanatos-Class Heavy Cruiser was made to pick up the slack of a dedicated carrier for the Blackguard Navy. While the majority of the ships within the Blackguard Navy had fighter carrying capabilities, aside from the Delta-Class Carrier, there were no true dedicated carriers. Despite primarily being a carrier, the Thanatos also boasted a significant arsenal, allowing it to operate outside of a standard fleet. Armed with 25 heavy turbolaser batteries, 20 dual turbolaser cannons, 20 point defense laser cannons, 10 point defense ion cannons, 8 proton torpedo launchers and 4 tractor beam projectors, the Thanatos was capable of carrying up to 264 starfighters (22 squadrons) in total, though it lacked any sort of troop carrying capacity. Protected by a reinforced hull and redundant shielding, it sacrificed agility and speed to ensure it was capable of holding its own in a fight.
