Description:
Inspired by the venerable Stormborn design, the Sunship entered prominence in the Aldar fleet as the third largest ship design ever made, behind the Stormborn and the Dawnstar. Atypical of all Aldar vessels, the Sunship was capable of water landing, submerging, and mobile hull plates that could move to protect vulnerable areas.
Designed with a similar purpose to the much smaller hammerhead ramming ship, the shipwrights of the Archonian Aviation Industry concentrated defense and durability towards the front, giving it a somewhat mushroom-like shape, and applied so much Force-imbued Archonium, which was second only to Bes'kar in durability, that the ship was all but indestructible in front.
The Sunship's appearance, size, and design meant corvettes and freighters could hide behind its forward-facing shield for cover and protection as they approached enemy vessels.
For armaments, it was quite poorly armed in comparison with ships of its size, but they were adequate nonetheless, and fielded 12 heavy turbolasers, 12 heavy ion cannons, 12 point-defense ion cannons, 18 quad laser cannons, 6 variable warhead launchers, fielding a total armament of 100 heavy concussion missiles, 90 tags and 70 ion bombs and 9 tractor beam projectors.
The ship had a complement of 48 fighters and 300 troops with space for heavy-to-light ground vehicles, transports, 2 pre-fab bases, could carry 9,000 metric tons of cargo, and had consumables for up to 3 years.
