Valon had not been tortured before, but it was not hard to notice a shift in his abuser. It had been some time since Zariel had stopped questioning him and instead simply subjected him to abuse. It was a change he had initially dismissed and given no real second thought to. In truth he had started to become numb to the pain she inflicted on him. The injuries still hurt, but thanks to Reya, he was able to recover much quicker than he had previously when this had all started. Her presence and visits were what he held onto and helped him get by each day. In truth, he might have broken or taken his own life some time ago to end this hell. But he had no idea what awaited him on the other side, and he knew it was better to trust the demon he knew. At least alive, he could try and perhaps save Reya.
Valon rested his back against the wall of the cell, feeling the freshly mended bones as Reya sat opposite him I appreciate your help as always, thank you... As for your mother? well... she gave up asking me questions long ago. Perhaps some battle gone awry? or perhaps someone, or something, continues to escape her? Honestly, we could drive ourselves crazy trying to theorize what is frustrating her. Honestly, I'd much rather know how you are doing?

Reya sat in silence for a moment. Her knees were drawn up and tucked under her chin. It was odd to have a friend who wasn't scared of her mother. But it still troubled her that she couldn't find out what had upset her mother so. Could she have found out about her visits with Valon? Or was it as the Forcespawn suggested, and something else relating to the Diarchy? I don't like it. She usually isn't this cruel. Typically she has a reason for torturing someone. But this is different... All the same, I'm fine. I'm not kept in a cage and beaten regularly.

He smiled and settled his golden gaze upon her as she answered his question. They say you developed a strange sense of humour and perspective when an inevitable death was facing you. He could certainly attest to the truth of such speculation Better me than you being the one getting beaten. As for your mother's cruelty, I don't have a lot of experience to compare it with. So I'll trust you on this. Perhaps... no... what ever it is, it must be pretty serious if she has not confided in you... I'm guessing your efforts to identify the place I saw in my vision have not yielded anything of worth so far?
