Vee leaned back into the booth, crossing her legs under the table as she mulled Sven's question. It wasn't like the company to lie about a haul...they'd always been honest. That's why she started working for the company in the first place, as her previous employer wandered into some illegal business. So if Jeev said there was nothing to worry about, if he said this was an expensive haul, but the client is just paranoid, then she had no reason to think otherwise. She bit her lower lip as she leaned back in, steepling her fingers under her chin. I'm not sure. We'll just do our best to be prepared for any trouble that may come our way.
Don was silent, glancing back and forth between them with thinly concealed amusement, noticing the inflections in their voices, the flushing, the slight shaking of hands. So we'll just be careful, just like any other haul, eh? He took a long draw of his ale. Besides, if there is trouble, they've already outfitted us with what they think we need. He motioned to Sven with his glass, his smile widening. As you've discovered, alor'ad, Sven is very...capable...and will get the job done.
Vee grit her teeth, kicking Don under the table with a warning glare. Hurry and finish, Don...you can go with Sven to take care of the mercs.
Nah, that's ok...I can take care of them, you and Sven should go back and get some rest. You both look very tired. He took another drink of ale, smiling over the glass and across the table at his cousin. Isn't that right, Sven?

There it was. The opportunity to get some time alone with Vee offered generously by Don. His breath caught for a moment at the thought of taking her back to the ship. To set things right for all the hurt he had caused. To tend to her hands as well as her other, deeper wounds. He ached to hold her, to comfort her. The need to be with her almost painful to him. Yet his mind remained his own.
"Actually no, Don."
His tone was regretful and a flash of inner pain flashed across his features as he spoke. He picked up his tankard and held it close to his lips, the movement covering the indecision that suddenly gripped him.
Would she take offense at him refusing? Would she think he didn't want her?
Such thoughts careened around in his head, tying up his tongue for a moment before he once again found his voice.
"I should see to the mercs. I told them I'd be along soon and it would set a bad example were I to go back on my word so soon in the contract."
He took a long pull on the ale to hide the way his lip twisted in disgust at his own honourable logic.
"Besides..." He continued as he lowered the mug. "I want to get a better feel for them before we begin in earnest tomorrow."
What he didn't add was that he wanted to nose around the 'Baat for some information and perhaps a way to make their chances a little better on this journey.

Don's eyes asked Sven, "What the fuck?", before darting over to Vee to gauge her reaction.Vee was embarrassed by Don's behavior, but also thankful because it gave her a way to see if Sven truly was disinterested in anything more with her or not. The answer was a glaring "Yes", and she chided herself for getting her hopes up, even after he made it clear already how he felt. His logic was sound, Vee actually appreciated why he was doing what he was...but she also couldn't help but think of him out there with the mercs, drinking and trolling for women on their last night before the haul.
Vee swallowed, her appetite suddenly fleeing. Unfolding her legs, she shifted in Don's direction in the booth. Well, I think we're done here then...let me out Don. Don quickly moved out of her way, for once not offering a smart quip. Vee didn't look at Don or Sven as she moved. She reached into her pocket once she was standing and casually tossed the credit card on the table. Have fun at the 'Batt, I'll see you both tomorrow at the ship, 0700 sharp.
She turned on her heel and made a beeline to the exit, waving wordlessly to a few of the patrons who wished her goodnight. As she stepped out onto the street, she contemplated going to a different bar and drinking the night away. She pulled down her hair, shaking it out as it fell and stuffing the tie into her pocket. No, she thought as she started back to the ship, she needed to be on her game for their departure tomorrow...better to turn in and try to get some sleep. She already decided she would sleep on the floor tonight, just in case Sven did decide to sleep on the ship also. While normally she didn't mind sharing the bed itself, it would just be too awkward with Sven. She just hoped if he came back, a woman wouldn't be with him.
She flicked off a whistle as she rounded the second block, disappearing into the spaceport.

With his left hand slapping down on the card as it slid across the table towards him Sven watched as Vee departed, his eyes full of morbid resignation as he tracked the gently sway of her hips. He felt Don's eyes on him as he raised the tankard towards his lips once again though did not deign to meet his cousin's eyes.
"Don't look at me like that."
His voice was quarrelsome but absent any real menace, too lethargic really to convey annoyance. He drank deeply, emptying the chalice of its bitter brew, waiting for whatever witticism Don would fire his way. After setting the empty tankard down with still no reply he finally looked across the table, seeing Don eyeing him still, a thoughtful frown on his features.
"What?"
This time there was a slight trace if ire colouring his words as the moment become a little bit uncomfortable. With an abrupt movement Sven stood, securing the credit card in one of the many compartments adorning his armour. Don followed suit, finally seeming to find his voice.
"Nothing. I just find it weird that the bear refused the honey pot when placed in front of him."
With a noncommittal grunt Sven scattered a few coins on the table as a tip, The food was rather good despite his soured appetite at the start... and turned to make his way through the now heaving barroom. Don fell into step besides and behind him, swerving through the crowd as if tethered to Svens arse, his voice rising slightly to be heard over the noise of the other patrons.
"Don't get me wrong. Very noble and full of honour but if this is some kind of game you are playing with her..."
Sven's head shook in adamant denial, another frown of annoyance crossing his brow. He pushed through the door, grudgingly holding it open for Don, before stepping into the now-darkened street, looking left and right to get his bearings.
His mind seemed numb to feeling at the moment, the sight of her walking away still replaying over and over in his memory. He hadn't detected the slightest trace of disappointment in her, something which just strengthened his decision to see to the men. His resolve had seemed strong at the time but now he was being assaulted by an army of regrets, a plethora of uncertainty plaguing him as the memory played out.
"No games, Don..."
His voice was firm as he began to move, walking away from the spaceport and back into town proper. After a moments pause Don followed, catching up to Sven's side as the latter continued.
"You saw her hands..." An obscure pain flavoured the words. "That was because of me. All I seem to do is cause her pain and trouble. Its only been twenty four hours and already it seems that I am the bane of her life!"
For once Don held his silence as they turned onto a wider street, the main thoroughfare between the spaceport and the city centre. Sven's voice was rather hoarse when they moved to the side in order to avoid some traffic, standing while the speeders passed and shielding their eyes from the harsh glare of their running light.
"I think both of us are too damaged to play at this kind of thing, me especially so. I don't know how to be with a woman. Not in an emotional sense anyway..."
The tremble in his tone was accompanied by a deep seated sadness that rocked him to his very core. He recalled his mother and father rushing to embrace each other when he had returned from whatever war he had been fighting. The love and companionship they had shared falling back into place despite the horrors the old man had likely witnessed. There was no sign of pain or awkwardness there and there had been no lack of compassion and care shown to both him and his mother. As much as he yearned and remembered he just couldn't see such a fate for him, especially in light of recent events.
Don had remained silent all through his thought process as if knowing to let his cousin seek answers from within. Finally when he did speak it was softly and lacking any of the barbed mockery that often adorned his words.
"That you are asking these questions gives you better credit than you may think, ner vod..."
His eyes matched the gentle tone as he stopped at the edge of the square where the Oyu'baat was located, his hand reaching out to stop Sven, tuning the armoured man to face him.
"If you don't explore such feelings you will never truly understand them. It is like in all things, practice is needed to attain a level of proficiency..."
He smiled slightly, trying to lighten the mood somewhat.
"Think of it like your military training if it helps. If you can come through that osik then this should be a piece of cake." His face grew serious once again and his hand found Sven's shoulder. "You're a good man Sven but you beat yourself up too much. Vee has her own demons and will make her own mess. Its not up to you to clean it up or own her stuff. You just keep your own side of the street clean, suvarir?"
Sven's mind was spinning with his cousin's words as he took them in and turned them every which way in order to better understand the advice given. He hadn't seen this side of Don before but he somehow knew, deep down, it had always been there. It had just never before had the need to be employed to him and his heart soared with appreciation for the man and his efforts to sooth Sven's turbulent conscience.
Sven nodded mutely as the moment stretched between them, drawing them closer than they had even been before.
Finally Don broke the spell by clapping Sven on the shoulder and uttering a slight cough of embarrassment.
"Come! Let us see to these mercenary dogs and pray they have not already seen themselves to the jail..."
With a spring in his step Don led the way across the square and through the doors of the Oyu'baat...

There weren't many spacers left in the port as Vee entered, most of the hanger bays empty or sparsely populated. Only one of them, filled with Bothans, was truly active. It seemed like they were in a great hurry to get out.Vee didn't like the port mostly empty, especially at night. She was so used to it being boisterous that it gave her an eerily uncomfortable feeling when it was so empty, hardly any lights illuminating her path. Anything could be hiding the in shadows. She knew it was childish, but she rarely came by herself, dragging Don with her most nights. It would be different tonight, her copilot deserved some fun with his cousin and the mercs before heading out. Plus, she didn't want to talk about Sven, and she knew that would probably be Don's prime topic when they were alone.
Thankfully their bay wasn't too far from the entrance, so Vee was able to jog there in a matter of minutes, crimson-gold hair sailing behind her like a cape. As she slowed to stride through the portal of the bay, she stopped dead in her tracks, un-holstering her slug immediately and ducking back behind the entryway in a rush. She crouched behind the wall, slowly peeking around it to study the scene with a look of shocked horror on her face.
Dead bodies and body parts were skewed around the hanger, two on the gangplank with the ship's hatch open, and a few by some cargo that had yet to be loaded. A few of them looked like mando mercs - gratefully not hers - while one was wearing ominous, dark clothing. The others...the others were crew, crew that had been left behind when she, Don and Sven left. Vee fought the urge to throw up as the smell of death drifted toward her. She stood as she slammed herself back behind the wall, fight or flight adrenaline coursing through her body. After a few heartbeats, her brain finally caught up to her. She kept her slug held up in her right hand, while her left found the comlink. She whispered to it to dial city security, quietly and quickly reporting the incident and her location. She was advised to remain where she was until they arrived, but as soon as she cut the line, she slowly inched her way around the entrance, fervently glancing around for any threats, before sprinting to the ship, blaster in hand.
Vee knew there was still a risk that whoever did this was still around, but it looked as if the fight had ended, and she had her ship and it's cargo to think about...as well as her job and the job of everyone else on the crew. She knew she sealed off all entrances, the only way for someone to get in or out would have to know security codes. There didn't seem to be any kind of break in. Her ocean colored eyes darted around as she entered the ship, pausing behind a barrier at every turn before moving forward. As far as she knew, only Terry and Matango could possibly be on the ship, and she needed to get to them to see if they were alright. She didn't see their bodies in the bay, so she prayed to the gods that she didn't find them dead inside. The only bodies she saw thus far were near the entrance, and she didn't recognize them.
She didn't dare call out, just in case the perpetrator was still around. As she moved through the levels, her heart pounding in her chest, she thought she heard something on the level where they were lodging. She quietly padded down the hall, realizing it was coming from her former quarters. Noticing the door open from the light shining out, she inched her way along the wall until she whipped around to stand in the entrance, blaster trained on...the doctor.
She sighed in relief, lowering her blaster slightly as she leaned against the door frame. F***...f*** f*** f***! Shit, are you alright? Her annoyance with the inconsiderate man was momentarily forgotten with the emergency.

Ronin had heard her footfalls before he even saw her. Still he had his pistol drawn as she rounded the corner, a visible sigh of relief to see a familiar face. Placing his pistol back down upon the table he continues stitching his thigh wound, the pants he had worn were on the ground nearby.
Ronin glanced around at the room, the medical supplies, his wounded thigh, and the blood that painted his body from the fight earlier. His face was no longer the cheerful one from earlier, but somehow cold and hard only complimented by the blood.
"I'll live if that's what you're asking."
Ronin made a motion at the room eyeing Vee
"Looks like they may have searched through here trashing it all, and my candy dish."
Ronin finished the final stitch, and hopped off the table. Walking towards Vee Ronin continued. His blue grey eyes which earlier seemed soft were now cold, powerful, and piercing as if they could look into a person. Ronin only wore a pair of tight compression shorts, a fitted v neck shirt, and his wrist blades. The adrenaline still pumped through his veins, the thrill of the fight still fresh in his mind as any spectator 'could see'
Ronin eyed her up and down checking for any visible would, his eyes went from her hand, to her neck, down to her feet
"Are you hurt at all?"

A'den made his move. He inquired about a bird like creature a vendor had in a age, and when the vendor turned to look at the creature, A'den stuffed 2 pieces of fruit in his pants. Getting an answer to his question about the creature, A'den turned and alked back to the alley...

Vee's body visibly relaxed at Ronin's words, holstering her blaster with a gust of air. No...no, I'm just fine. She nodded down at the mess of medical supplies and candy at the floor before bending down to pick up a piece of chocolate. I was the one who messed your stuff up, you pissed me the fuck off earlier. She said this nonchalantly and without malice as she unwrapped the chocolate and popped it into her mouth, hoping it would help ease her nerves. They hadn't even left yet and already trouble was finding them. What the hell were in those crates? All she had seen were electronic parts. But we can talk about that later...I called city security, they'll be here any minute. She pushed past him and sat heavily on the bed, rubbing her hands over her face. I didn't see Terry out there, maybe he left before it all went down...Don and Sven are at the 'baat with the mercs. She looked up at him, studying him carefully, sucking on her piece of chocolate. What the hell happened here?
She would have to report this to Jeev, of course...and the city would have official reports, and it would probably be plastered all over the holonet as well. She'd be lucky if they kept their jobs. This had never happened to her before, never had she had a single hiccup on a job. Don...she should call Don...he would know what to do...

Ronin stepped over to stand near Vee, she looked stressed out. Ronin thought about placing a hand upon her shoulder to calm her but dismissed it
"Well Captain where shall I begin, I was shot as you couldn't tell. We were nearly hyjacked, three gunman, and a single sith come on board. As far as I can tell we lost about six of our own."
Ronin took a deep breath before continuing. His gaze and face softening, as the anger subsided.
"You'll find their bodies outside of the ship where I tossed them, bunch of kriffing bitches!"
Vee was a rather attractive women though she was a bit of a bitch, Ronin kinda liked his women feisty. The brief view down her shirt wasn't bad either.
"Thanks for being honest with me Captain, can we start over? "

Vee frowned in confusion as she finished the chocolate and reached into her pants to pull out a pack of cigs and lighter, not answering right away. She didn't normally smoke, but it was one of the few things that could calm her nerves under stress. She could see her piloting career slipping away...she should have been here. It was all her fault. People were dead because of her, and the trip was possibly compromised. And what's worse, this could cost her dear Don his job too. As much as Don could annoy her, her was her closest friend, she loved him, and she never would forgive herself if he lost his career or even this job over this. She stuck a cig in her pink mouth and hunched over slightly to light it, taking a draw before her head came back up, her elbows remaining on her knees. She blew the smoke out of her mouth and nose, directing it to the side before she spoke next, barely hearing Ronin's question as she processed the information he just shared..
Sith? Here? She shook her head as if trying to deny it. But, how...She took another draw. Why? And how...how did you...how were you able to fight them off? I mean, fuck, Sith? She took an exceptionally long draw this time, her hand slightly trembling. Not that she wasn't concerned about the doctor, but what if it had been Don who had been here and been killed? What if it had been Sven? Vee knew very little about this thing called the "Force", but from what she knew about it, people who used it were nearly unstoppable.

Oh women and their selective hearing, here he was pretty much naked asking for a truce and all she heard was Sith. As frustrated as he was getting seeing those pretty pink lips wrap around that cigarette wasn't helping other frustrations.
Moving over to his bag Ronin withdrew some of his fruit and his bottle of water.
"I got lucky, heard them coming and was able to ambush them I guess."
Ronin said this with his back turned, his voice coming softer and without much anger left in it. As images of what happened came back to him of what happened, he relived it in his head. Reaching for some wipes Ronin removed his bloody shirt and tossed it on the floor. He began cleaning his arms and face of blood.
From Vee's perspective she would see Ronin's shapely butt, and a few old scars on his back

You don't just get lucky, not with Force users...Her voice was barely audible, as if she were speaking just to herself. She barely registered Ronin's undress as she continued to puff on her cig. Her hands stopped shaking, but her heart trembled in worry. I should call Don...right? Yeah, I need to call Don. She blinked, suddenly noticing the doctor was cleaning up, right in front of her. It didn't faze her in the least. Oh good, that's good...you don't want to look a bloody mess when security gets here. They'll need to question you. She took one last puff before she put out the cig on her boot. She stood up and headed the short way to the door. Finish cleaning and come to the bay, they'll be here soon. Her voice was absent minded, as if she was running on autopilot.
She numbly made her way out of the ship, barely seeing the bodies anymore. Once she was out, she pulled out her comlink as the first of city security entered the hanger. The com rang and rang, but all she got was voice mail. She tried once more before an officer pulled her to the side and started questioning her...

Ronin finished cleaning u and redressed. The captain didn't seem to work well around death, maybe she was all bark and no bite. Hell anyone could carry a weapon to look dangerous. Exiting the room Ronin made his way down the hall and out of the ship where security officials stood documenting the scene and questioning the captain. He said nothing as he walked out of the ship and stood beside the Captain for support.

Vee woodenly answered all the questions the official asked her, the mando recording it all on his holopad. She wasn't really there, though, too busy worrying about how this would effect the job and the crew, and the pointless mulling of what would have happened if Don or Sven were here and they were killed by the Force-wielding psychopath. Her brain finally defogged enough to wonder why the doctor wasn't dead...surely one didn't fight a Force-user without using the Force themselves, or being heavily armed and familiar with them. Ronin was hardly armed at all. Maybe enough to take out someone who didn't use the Force, but not enough to take out a Sith.
Vee lit up again as her interview ended. She noticed for the first time that the doctor was standing beside her, surprisingly leaving his big mouth behind. She gave him a curt nod of acknowledgement.Maybe there was hope after all. Plus, regardless of how he did it, he had stopped the Sith and mercs from taking the ship and cargo. Despite the fact he hadn't been able to save any of the docking crew, that was still something. She would have to talk to him privately when this was all said and done and thank him.
Vee blew out a stream of smoke before asking Not to be callous, but how quickly do you think that this...that this can be cleaned up. We're set to leave tomorrow morning. She took another draw.
The officer shrugged a shoulder. Well, if they start right now, we may be able to get you out in time...but we need to check for evidence, take holos, all the preliminary steps before we move anything...not much choice in the matter. That could push you back until the afternoon. Vee hissed as she blew out another stream.
I'll tell my handler. She motioned to Ronin beside her. This is Dr. Ronin Matango...he's the one who was here when it all happened.
The man nodded, turning to Ronin. Dr. Matango, if you could tell us what happened, every detail you can remember please.
Vee walked off several yards, cig through her fingers with smoke following her red mane. She commed Don again, and again got voicemail. She cursed him under her breath. If she ever needed Don, it was now, if only for moral support for when she called Jeev. He wasn't going to be happy. The call could be the end of her career, and possibly his. Vee would never forgive herself. If only she had Sven's com contact, she would be able to get Don that way...unless he was just as preoccupied. Vee banished the wayward thought from her mind. She tried Don twice more, than caved in and called Jeev. His assistant answered.
Loral
It's H'rel, Jeev around?
He sleeps sometimes, you know.
Don't get smart with me, this is an emergency.
She never used that word before, so she hoped that would alarm him enough to get Jeev on the line. She took another long draw of her cig.
Hold a moment, H'rel.
Vee waited for another 30 seconds before Jeev came on
What's this about an emergency?
A Sith and a few mercs tried to take the ship and cargo.
Vee braced herself for the worst as there was another long pause.
Casualties? She almost took a step back in surprise as Jeev's voice was calm.
A few of the docking crew are dead, the ship, cargo and team are unharmed except for Dr. Matango, he took a minor wound to his thigh, but he's up and walking around.
Another long pause. How long will this push back the departure time?
Officer says we may have to leave in the afternoon instead of morning.
We need you to leave as soon as possible.
Understood.
Keep me updated on the situation and let me know if there's anything you need.
Yes Jeev...and I'm sorry.
It's not your fault, Vee, now get to work. He cut the line.
Vee felt tears of relief fill her eyes, but she brushed them away roughly with a bandaged hand. Maybe everything was going to be alright after all.

Ronin gave his report withholding anything that involved the force. A few questions answered followed by several hand shakes for taking on. Sith and living to tell the tale. After the security officers had the answers to their questions they let Ronin go. It was just a few minutes.
Ronin kept an eye on Vee, he could be a hindrance if another force user popped up. Walking over to Vee he placed a hand on the small of her back to get her attention. His voice soft and soothing as the words slipped from his lips, his eyes locked with hers.
"You look stressed Captain, how about I make us some tea?"

Vee nearly jumped when Ronin touched her, a shock of awareness traveling down her spine and bringing her back to the present. She shook her head as she took a long draw, held it longer than she should, then tipped her head to the side before letting it out so it didn't blow in the doctor's face. No...I just need to get a hold of Don, but he won't answer his phone. She worried her brow with the hand that held the cig before drawing again. She blew out a long puff before holding it up as if she were offering it to Ronin. You want one?

Ronin kept his hand on the small of her back longer than he maybe should have but he enjoyed the physical contact that didn't involve killing someone. She smelled nice, and her hair looked soft. When he finally removed his hand he did so to bring his hand up in a motion to reject.
"No thanks, I quit awhile ago. The others are fine probably put drinking before a long trip, but you need to relax and let go of that stress and tension."
Ronin took a step so he stood in front of her, his eyes still looking into hers
"I bet your neck and back is super tight due to stress. Nice cup of hot tea, maybe a fire massage may help relax you before our trip."

Vee frowned at him with confusion, her eyes narrowing and her brow knit together.Tea? Massage? What was this? This aruetii was stranger than most...but then again, maybe all aruetii doctors were like this. She shook the hand with the cig, smoke zig zagging in front of her.Uh...no, no I don't think so. She glanced towards the ship, suddenly remembering there was a bottle of tihaar packed in her bag. It also reminded her... I want to thank you, doctor, for taking care of those mercs and the Sith...that couldn't've been easy, but I appreciate it all the same. She made the effort to keep her eyes trained on Ronin while she spoke. It was the polite thing to do, especially after what he did and the fact it seemed he was trying to make an effort to fit in better...maybe he learned from their previous encounter to adjust his attitude a little to compensate for their culture. She didn't want to be talking to the doctor right now though...she wanted that bottle of tihaar and Don. Now. She would leave for the 'baat right now if she didn't feel the need to stay with the ship. She wouldn't take any more chances. But now she was starting to worry about Don, Sven and the mercs...what if it wasn't just the cargo and ship they wanted? Vee put out the cig with her fingertips, ignoring the burn, and stowed it in a pocket.

Ronin dipped his head in a nod, rejection in a nice way, yes her could probably make her do what he wanted with his force tricks, the thought even crossed his mind for a moment before being brushed aside like an annoying fly. No, he would do things to normal way.
"I'm just doing my job ma'am, maybe we can talk later...you know start over. I feel we may have started on a bad note. What do you think?"
Looking over her face, the thought of having her crossed his mind, this was going to be a long trip.

Yes yes, we can talk later. Just...you need to give mandos our space...and get rid of the candy, we're not children. And take no for no. And don't talk about this anymore, ok? Vee tried to sound as helpful as she could, it was a good sign that he seemed to realize his mistakes. And...I'm sorry about your room. You're not from around here and don't understand our ways, but I hope now you'll try to adjust, because I don't want any more trouble, ok?
She crossed her arms, trying to look more in control than she felt. If she were honest, she felt like a wreck, but she would never admit to anyone but Don. As soon as she was alone, she would try Don again and fetch her tihaar. Tomorrow's going to be a long day, you should probably rest. I want everyone working at their best.
