Imperium Hall (exterior), The Grand Hall (interior)
Imperium Hall is a high columned ferrocrete building with ornate windows of elegant transparisteel, several stories high. The main doors open onto a wide hall, the Grand Hall, that stretches out below a high buttressed ceiling of hardwoods, with understated lighting augmenting the brightness at need so that in daylight or nighttime, the luminosity remains balanced. Great rich and heavy draperes cover the walls, beside the curtained windows, among the tapestries, paintings and metalwork plates on display. The stone floors are richly carpeted, or covered in hardwood planking. On the lower floors are booths and information kiosks, as well as refresher stations.
The Grand Hall is normally seen in its standard configuration, as a museum of the worlds of the Inner Rim, to rival any in the galaxy. The three level area, accessed by staircase, is dotted with many interactive displays provided by Obroa-Skai, allowing access to vast databases on culture. Artwork and sculpture from various planets is also on display, curated expertly by the Imperium's finest experts. The Grand Hall can be reconfigured at need to an audience chamber that can hold up to four thousand guests and representatives. It can also host grand balls, opera, and banquets for thousands of invitees at a time. Each planet of the Inner Rim is well represented with aspects of their history, culture, and even myths and legends, on display. The Grand Hall is all visitors and guests ever see, the museum, the meeting place, the administrative facilities, and the well polished and presented face of the Inner Rim Imperium.
No public access is permitted beyond the Grand Hall, as the underground areas are secure, and house maintenance and preparation areas, as well as power, water, and other utilities. The administrative face of the IRI is housed here, managing the general public as well as exalted guests and official delegations. Offices and other services are located in rooms just off the hall. Security is provided by uniformed IRI troops, backed up by a state of the art monitoring system with overlapping holocams, weapons scanners, and monitoring droids. Security is located out of sight at the rear section of the Grand Hall, between it and the private areas beyond and the only access from Imperium Hall to the rest of the IRI's HQ is through several security checkpoints.
