Variable Geometry Self-Propelled Battle Droid, Mark II
Ship Class: Heavy Starfighter
Ship Role: Starfighter
Ship Length: 8 meters
Ship Width: 6 meters
Agility (A): 4
Defensive (D): 2
Offensive (O): 3
Speed (S): 4
Special Gear: 2 (Advanced Manoeuvring Thrusters, Advanced Targeting System)
Description:
Following the conquest of Hypori and Geonosis by the vile machinations of the Sith Eternal Empire, the tinker-rats of Clan Rustrot in the western reaches of Dragusblight focused their prestigious technological know-how and mastery of ranat science on improving the Haor Chall Engineering Corporation designs they had gained access to. Under the guidance of Chief Warlock Enginseer Skaltera Brassclaw, Clan Rustrot produced the Variable Geometry Self-Propelled Battle Droid, Mark II, a more modernized version of the now outdated vulture droid in service during the events of the Clone Wars.
The Mark II was slightly larger than its predecessor with a reinforced hull of doonium from Ryloth, providing superior protection than the aclad alloy of the Mark I. Replacing the former's blaster cannons and energy torpedo launchers were [4] heavy laser cannons and [2] concussion missile launchers with a combined payload of 16 missiles. Similar to the Mark I, the Mark II lacked a dedicated deflector shield generator, which it made up for with a focus on high maneuverability, featuring advanced maneuvering thrusters capable of quick turns and difficult-to-predict changes in direction. Like the Mark I the Mark II lacked a hyperdrive unit, but made up for this deficiency in the same way, being able to transform into a walking weapons platform capable of latching onto the external hull of a capital ship. The integrated droid brain received a modern software update which included advanced targeting systems, making it a difficult enemy to evade. It was also able to act independently of a droid control ship.
The ships out-dated fuel slug engines were replaced with a much faster twin-ion propulsion system capable of atmospheric speeds matching the TIE Defender, using an experimental fuel derived from coaxium mined and refined on Kessel.
