With the research put into making the Wrath-class Transport, Darth Astera took note of the limited vessels available for the Sith to use as personal transports and mobile bases. While there were a few selections among the Sith and Imperial designs at their disposal, most were either relatively large or shuttles. A newly imagined design was needed to help bridge the gap between the smaller shuttles and larger transports.
For inspiration she drew from the design features of the Fury-class Interceptor of the reconstituted Sith Empire and the TIE Silencer of the First Order. These two vessels provided a pinnacle of power and finesse of their respective times and would come together quite nicely. To finalize it, she looked to the tried and true creations of the Corellian Engineering Corporation, namely, the YT series. With a touch of Sith ingenuity, what was great could become perfect. Like CEC ships, the interior was primarily modular and could easily be altered according to the owner's preferences, merging the line between functional and refined. This allowed it to carry up to two hundred metric tons of cargo and five passengers. Five crew members were needed for optimum efficiency, though it could function well enough with just a single pilot. A whole crew consisted of a pilot, a co-pilot, and three gunners.
Beginning with a large engine within the center, a pair of wide-beam engines flanked each side. This configuration gave it an incredible power output, allowing greater speeds and acceleration, not to mention heightened agility. This allowed it to flee from enemies and keep pace with average interceptor-class starfighters. Though solid enough in defense, it shone in offensive power. A pair of heavy laser cannons were placed between the solar panels on each side while a dual laser turret rested on the dorsal and ventral sides of the craft to handle any starfighters. Beneath the cockpit resided a pair of light ion cannons, holding a pair of missile launchers on each side of the cockpit, capable of carrying three missiles each. This list of weapons gave it an intense bite, making it a threat to starfighters up to smaller corvettes. Such a robust armament, however, made further modifications difficult, though alternate weapon load-outs were possible with a bit of work.
The final touches on the hull were the placement of the starboard docking ring with the boarding ramp just beneath it and an escape pod in the same location on the port side. Lastly, the communication disc could be flattened and retracted into the hull.
When deciding on a name, Astera opted to classify it as the Mekhis-class Transport, named after the Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Mekhis, a scientist, Dark Council member, and head of the Sphere of Technology for the reconstituted Sith Empire.
