When asked if he had been made Chieftain of his tribe, Freyyr chuckled aloud in his gruff Wookiee voice and gave Darek the closest he could manage to a sly, amused smile. "Oh, no...of course not. It is unlikely I will ever be Chieftain of my tribe. However, I have been given the honor of being a Hunt Master, instead. I teach the young wooks of my tribe how to hunt, teach them to respect their prey and how to track them and kill them efficiently and honorably."
Freyyr turned and nodded towards the two taller of the younger wooks behind him. "Those are Telluff and Brryvrook, two of my older wards, although you would not know it the way they goof off all the time. This, however..." Freyyr reached over and calmly put an affectionate paw on Ralwaar's shoulder... "...is my newest and youngest ward, Ralwaar. And I believe Ralwaar has something to say to you. Ralwaar?"
Ralwaar, the youngest Wookiee, with the darkest colored fur, nodded his head in agreement. He left Freyyr's side, stepping forward to greet Darek himself. When he was only two feet from Darek, the young Wookiee softly gave his formal acknowledgement of Darek's actions... "Human pilot...Darek...you...you saved my life moments ago when you killed that katarn. That katarn would've surely mauled me to death had you not acted as you did. You have my deepest gratitude."
The young Wookiee, though he was too timid to reach over and give Darek a hug like Freyyr had, gave Darek a respectful bow, hoping it would suffice. Then, he continued...
"Our traditions and cultures dictate that when our lives are saved by another being, that we swear a life-debt to that being, and we serve that being as long as we live with the utmost honor and loyalty. I do not know you, Darek, but Hunt Master Freyyr seems to trust you. You seem to be an honorable person. I would be glad to swear such an oath to you, friend. Would you accept my life-long companionship?"
The other two younger Wookiees, Telluff and Brryvrook, looked at one another in stunned silence.

Although his question had only been in jest, Darek wasn’t surprised at Freyyr being named Hunt Master. A Wookiee with his experience deserved that, at the very least.
His focus changed to the younger Wookiee as he stepped forward. He gave a smile of thanks and encouragement for Ralwaar’s expression of gratitude. He could only imagine how shocked all three of them were at their Hunt Master’s friendliness with this Human.
He didn’t know everything about Wookiee culture, and was far less practiced with their customs than their language, yet almost anyone who knew a thing or two about Wookiees knew about their tradition of a life-debt. Darek of course knew this detail very well, and yet somehow, in the middle of saving this young one’s life, he had completely forgotten about it. Ralwaar’s offer caught him by surprise, and he was a little relieved to see Telluff and Brryvrook were just as surprised.
In the silence that followed, Darek felt torn. He had no plans of staying, and accepting Ralwaar’s offer meant taking him from his family and the only home he knew. And yet, if Ralwaar was hesitant to leave, the offer meant he was determined to push past that fear to honour the debt he owed. That told Darek all he needed.
“Ralwaar, friend, I’d be honoured to have your companionship.”

The young Wookiee, Ralwaar, seemed to grin - pleased by Darek's willingness to accept his life-debt offer. He still seemed a bit timid, and unsure of what to make of Darek, yet his voice conveyed a sense of gratitude and warm friendship as he responded.
"Thank you, Darek. I am very, very pleased to meet you, and I would be honored to become your companion. I vow to protect you and all you own with my life from this day forward, in the hopes that - in doing so, I would bring honor to my tribe."
Freyyr, with a huge Wookiee grin on his face, couldn't help but chime in. "For a Wook so young, Ralwaar has already proven to me to be honorable and trustworthy in the short time I have tutored him. I have no doubt that he means every word he says. I give my blessing to this newfound companionship."
Telluff and Bryyvrook began grunting amongst themselves, obviously now very interested in the human pilot, now that both Freyyr and Ralwaar seemed to be incredibly honored by him.
Freyyr, clearly the happiest he had been in a long time, walked over to Darek and patted the much shorter pilot on the shoulder, chuckling as he reeled back from the strength of the friendly pat. "Oh, Darek, my old friend - surely you must be weary and starved. Please! Come home to my village with us for a spell! You will be welcome at my house tonight! You can share with me the stories of your adventures since we left Endor. Ralwaar, your new companion, can get to know you better. And you can meet some other old friends of ours whom I think you might recognize! You have not been the first to find me."

Darek’s grin at his new friend and Freyyr’s offer almost matched Freyyr’s own - had he not had the wind just knocked out of him. A night of reminiscing, sharing stories with friends old and new, and a ration-free, hot meal made his old pal’s offer too good to pass up. The news of other old comrades hanging around was just icing on the Uj cake.
“Buddy, you couldn’t keep me away if you wanted. What are we waiting for?”

Freyyr gave out a hearty chuckle, then he turned back towards the forest's edge, eager to return home. He motioned for the other wooks to follow him as he trudged through the sandy beach. "Come, Brryvrook! Telluff, Ralwaar! Let's go home and show our human friend the hospitality of Orriorr!"
The other Wookiees wasted no time falling in line behind Freyyr as they began making their way back to the village. All except Ralwaar, who suddenly ran over to the dead katarn's corpse. He knelt down, and - to Darek's amazement, heaved the large creature onto his strong Wookiee shoulders before rejoining Darek and the other Wookiees. When he returned, he grunted at Darek...
"Here, Darek - I will carry your trophy home for you. This katarn is yours to claim - your first as my companion. May the ancestors bring you many more to come."
It was a long walk down the beach to the village of Orriorr, but as they turned a bend west along the shoreline of the nearby ocean, they could eventually see the tree-based village three miles out. It was a seashore village, where many of the native local Wookiees sailed out in their wooden boats to catch sea creatures for food. It also had a small agricultural trading port for the Wookiees further inland. The village itself wasn't very big, compared to most Wookiee cities on Kashyyyk, and aside from the trading port and sea docks, only consisted of twenty-five to thirty residences. At the far side of the village, though, was the mouth of what appeared to be a giant cave. Next to the cave, very out of place, was a rather sizable power generator. If Darek studied the mouth of the cave close enough, he could see what appeared to be the nose of a Delta-7 Jedi Starfighter, with markings matching that of the Jedi Shadows' aqua blue Delta-7s.
All the way there, Telluff and Brryvrook grunted amongst each other and with Freyyr, obviously discussing Darek. The two younger Wookiees seemed confused about Darek's presence, as if Freyyr hadn't told them about him before, but Freyyr calmly and respectfully began sharing his past relationship with the starfighter pilot. Eventually, as they listened to Freyyr's tales, they began to warm up to the human also, although neither of them spoke to Darek the entire trip.

Derek stayed behind with Ralwaar as he retrieved the Katarn’s body, silently thankful for the Wookiee offering to carry it. He’d ruin it, and his back, if he had to drag it back to the village on his own.
“Thanks Ral. Can I call you Ral?”
Darek’s eyes wandered over the seashore as he walked alongside Ralwaar behind Freyyr and the other Wookiees. He caught pieces of their conversation as he followed, and smiled as he remembered some of Freyyr’s tales.
Darek took notice of a few fishing boats in the middle of the river and a couple more entering or leaving the docks. He wasn’t terribly surprised at the seaport’s small size. He knew enough about Kashyyyk, even before coming back, to recall the expansive Wookiee cities were all set up in the treetops. The port itself seemed unremarkable, but what did catch his eye were two landmarks - a massive power generator. What would a seaport need win a generator that size?
The next thing he noticed was a starfighter, thankfully not a TIE model. He felt a rush of excitement and curiosity when he recognized it as a Delta-7, the fighter of choice for the Jedi Shadows. Better than that, it also had the distinctive paint markings and blue colours of the Shadows! Freyr wasn’t kidding, someone else was already here. But who?
He looked at his new friend, curious about how much he knew. ”That ship by the cave. How long has it been here?”

The young dark-brown haired Wookiee nodded and grunted kindly in response.
"You may call me that if you like, Darek. I don't mind at all. Our names seem oddly hard to pronounce for most outsiders. It is a curious trait, but not a dishonorable one, by any means."
At the mention of the ship near the cave, Freyyr, who was now leading the group towards Orriorr, gently roared so he could be heard above the waves crashing against the shoreline.
"That ship belongs to a Jedi Shadow named Valeyra - and she was once the leader of the elite Nova Squadron back at Endor. You are not the first to come here from Endor, Darek. As I said, you will meet many old friends from the old Enclave when we arrive. In the last seven years, our village has become a safe haven for many of the Jedi Shadows and Phantom mercenaries. They keep their ships and equipment in the cave at the edge of the village. The funny-looking haired one with pointed ears calls it a 'safehouse.'"
Ralwaar chimed in with his own opinion of the Jedi Shadows living at Orriorr...
"They are all very nice people. We give them food and shelter. In return, they help protect us and supplement our village with alien knowledge. They sometimes go offworld and bring us things from other worlds. The Jedi and the armored ones keep away the Loyalist tribes and dangerous predators, and the smart ones fix our bowcasters and our winged-speeders. The small, cute, furry ones are also excellent hunters, and they often join us on our hunts, although they seem ill-suited to our world's terrain and game."
"The pointed eared one is fun to prank!" Telluff growled with an amused tone.
"So is the drunk one!" Brryvrook added with a chuckle. Soon, both of the older hunt wards were chuckling up a storm.

A rush of excitement ran through Darek as he listened to the Wookiees’ stories of their other guests. Jedi pilots and warriors, Phantom troopers, even Ewoks! A whole community of them here and faring well. After all this time, he couldn’t believe his luck.
”You have no idea how great it is to hear all this. I’m ready to kick myself for not coming by sooner!”
He fell silent as he followed the Wookiee hunting party through their home, taking in the sights while he took in the best news he’d had in years. It was more than he ever dared hope to find.

"Pull harder!"
Said the Nautolan. She and Xerxes were sweating profusely in the flightsuits, trying to pull yet another sapling.
"How many do we have?"
The Falleen had removed his helmet, his hair fell wet. His companion swore profusely in an Alien language.
"Bucket heads better pay well..."
"Ballsy, anything on the scanners?"
A stream of hurried and nervous chirping ensued. Nothing, but animal forms all around. No wookies. What a relief, Xerxes already had a bionic arm, didn't want a second, precisely.
"And... we got already twenty saplings in the cargo bay"
A large barge floated next to them, it was piloted by the frightened BB unit.
"Do we need even more?"
"I guess all we can carry. Zarsk, you copy?"
"Yessss"
"How any of these damned trees can we fit in the cargo bay?"
"Probably... one hundred"
"Oh my... there're not enough gods in the Hutt panteon to curse this job"
"Hush, girl, never heard you complain about shooting something, now... let's... haul this one"
"I will knock your teeth if you ever call me girl again"
They placed the sapling in the lifter and headed for the barge. The Loth-wolf was nearby, its sensors trying to avoid any surprises.
"Twenty one. Long way to go"
*sigh*

Smoke rose from beneath one of the many immensely tall Wroshyr trees, thick billowing clouds that had become something a new, but frequent, occurrence upon the surface of the deep forested world of Kashyyyk. At first, the Wookiee chieftains thought it was Trandoshan mercenaries and their slaver masters. They were always a problem for the hardy race of furry humanoids. The scaled menace tended to enjoy taking Wookiees from their homes and using them for a good profit. However, as the days went on, the chieftains received of word that there was more than just Trandoshans... there were Stormtroopers and red-lightsaber wielding individuals. To many, the news of this brought a reminder of the Galactic Empire before when it came to oppress their ancestors. But the Sith weren't here to oppress, no, they wanted slaves just like the Trandoshans.
Within this particular dense village, all manners of actions were occurring. Stormtroopers flushed out homes, led by a Sith commander. Those that resisted were killed while women and children were rounded up for deportation. A number of shuttles were present, bearing the markings of the Greater Roon Remnant and various Trandoshan clans and mercenary groups. Xitan, prior to shifting his attention to Kashyyyk, had struck a deal with the natives of Trandosha, which rested within the same system. Mercenaries were hired for good credits and deals were made to extract a healthy amount of slaves for the scaled humanoids. The Sith and the Trandoshans made a deal and converged on Kashyyyk together. For less than a week now, the new allies found their agreement to be quiet beneficial. As such, while there were Stormtroopers clearing houses, the mercenaries did the same with their usual brutality.
Xitan watched from above as the carnage ensued. Where he stood had been a vantage point where the Wookiee chieftains met, likely one of their handful of gatherings high up in these immense trees. One of the chieftains laid dead, filled with blaster marks from Stormtrooper fire. Turning to the left, the Sith could see a few more locations, within the vicinity of the great tree, were smoke rose and fires raged. They were getting quite the profit here. Trandoshan allies and Wookiee slaves. Certainly, the Sith Eternal, and the Supreme Leader, would be pleased.
His comlink went off, causing his attention to be focused on a report by a Sith commander.
=Sith= Lord Xitan, we are moving upon the last two villages within the vicinity of this tree. Once we have had our haul, we should move to another continent, least the Wookiees present a firm resistance.
A wise course of action.
Agreed. Have the Firebrand in orbit begin a sweep of the Eastern continents. Work in coordination with the Trandoshan cruisers.
An affirmative was given before the transmission ended. And with that, Xitan returned to gaze upon the smoldering carnage.
