The Troops, fleets, etc is very much from an OOC standpoint. As writers, we, the Jedi, make up most of the writers under the banner of the Republic/good guys. All, or almost all, of the Republic characters are Alts of Jedi - therefore, for the purposes of providing a military that can protect the writers, the onus is very much on us as writers to provide those aspects.
As for the whole Council approved thing, we're definitely not trying to control anything. It is, as Don said, about that central purpose. If the order as a whole is to be represented, we kind of oversee that just to ensure consistency and communication. If someone wants to write their character interacting with the High Council or one of its members - like canon Jedi - we're here to provide that. We're a communication and RP facilitation tool, not anything intending to restrict

So I'm around now... well I'm hoping to *stay* around. I read through almost this whole thread thus far to catch up on the conversation.

I'm actually surprised to see that the Coruscant Jedi Temple doesn't already exist, considering it is a canon location... As far as the usergroup thing, I'm wondering myself how the Whills are changing up usergroup requirements. I think I remember Chill mentioning they were going to rethink the restrictions based around multiple usergroups and requesting them, or something, so we'll see how that plays out.

Misinterpretation, SySy. We're not an oligarchy dictatorship controlling every aspect of Jedi Life. Ask the Corellian Jedi Order, or even us, the Yavinites: we frequently do lots of things without getting the Council involved whatsoever. No one is trying to control Jedi SLs, or Jedi writers, or anything like that. With MAJOR, Galactic-spanning, All-Jedi-Involved StoryLines, I'd imagine everyone would enjoy a little communication and cooperation, but, so say, if you feel like today's the day Syren goes and stops a slaver ring on Rendili ... Then go stop a slaver ring on Rendili. You don't need to tell the Council you plan to do this, wait for the paperwork to be filled out (in triplicate), and get approval via snail mail. The Council was/is supposed to serve more as a coordinating point, so that way if one of us goes "Hey, I've got a really neat idea for a plot for the entire Order (or one large chunk of it, what have you)", then that idea can get out there to the rest of the community so our fellow Jedi writers can go "Hey, that's pretty neat, I'm all for that." We're not meant to delegate tasks and responsibilities to other people. We're not here to tell you what you can and cannot do with your own character. We are, very simply, a focusing point for Jedi ideas and characters. Not a single Councilor is going to tell anyone else how to run their character or their storylines, and I will personally tell off any single one that does. WITH THAT SAID, acting in a manner not befitting a Jedi (read: turning Dark) will have IC consequences and the like, but that's part of story and character development, and is always a writer's choice. Offshoots of the Jedi Order, like mine - the secret Order of Jedi Shadows - depend on the freedom to not let the Jedi Council proper know what we're doing, which in my case is, oh...almost all the time.

I am confused, I though you were branch off the Investigators, which reports to Council proper.
And we have put in a request for the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. Idk how many threads you guys see for it, but I echoed a need to have one.

Also Sy one other thing you got wrong, I am not on the council, and I certainly don't ask them before I go and do things. Haha

My understanding of our role, Will, is this: we're the Jedi the Council calls in if they want us to do something like gather intel, a covert hit on an enemy base, or something along those lines where they don't want anyone to know it was the Jedi who did it. Apart from that, we conduct our own operations without knowledge or approval of the Jedi Council - we basically operate apart from the main Jedi Order, and if we find a threat that the Council needs to know about, we flag it.

i see. . .so it is an inaccuracy to call yourselves a seperate order. it is just your operations are clandestine in nature.

Okay, I guess you're right - we're not a seperate Order, per say, but we do things seperate of the other Jedi. The way I look at it is, if other Jedi know what we're doing all the time, we're not doing our job right. We're very clandestine, indeed. We're the CIA of Jedi. And I'll admit, I kinda like it that way. =D

So, as far as Coruscant Temple goes ...
I'm assuming the basic threads that are going to be needed are
- Grand Audience Chamber, where the Council officially meets and where any major ceremonies are held - Residential Areas, for the Jedi actually living there - A Hangar, of course - A Security Area, controlling cameras, locks on the doors, etc. - Training Facilities - The Archives, considering that aside from the Library of Ossus, Coruscant had the largest volume of information in the Galaxy - Annnd ... I suppose some sort of exterior? Maybe?
Bare bones, I think that's what we're looking at, more or less. We can always add to it as needed.

I think barebones or paired down is a good idea, but you want to be looking at the key areas in Canon, with larger areas containing a number of smaller ones:
- High Council Spire - Tranquility Spire (includes the hall of Knighthood, vaults for extremely ancient documents, and numerous meditation chambers and gardens) - Hall of a Thousand Fountains - Processional Way, Main Entrance and Mezzanines - The Archives - Jedi Command (includes mission briefing rooms, central communications, operations planning centres, and the Temple's security control rooms) - Academy Wing (includes all the training rooms and classrooms) - Tower Hangars (there are four hangar areas, one in each of the four outer spires) - Halls of Healing? - Residential Areas
That is how I'd pair it down, and reflects some of the more relevant and useful locations. However, the Temple has so much within it, there's a lot of variations to be found on this general layout.

The NJO temple was the same as the old JO Temple, only with a transparisteel pyramid built over the top to contain the temple and add a little more space.
