She stopped dead and turned to look at Daz. Clones? Suddenly she smiled, fully aware that clones could indeed be excellent company, although explaining her information on that matter could be rather tricky. She traipsed along the halls a couple steps away from the much taller male.
"Have you ever died before?"
That question stemmed from the clones and led into another train of thought that was temporarily set aside to answer his inquiries about the Jedi.
"The Jedi are much as usual, perhaps a bit more organized than in recent decades although not to the level of the Order during the days of the Old Republic."
And she returned to her former line of thought. Referring to clones, reading history in looking at the walls, and his odd phraseology and sentence structure ('oh by the us,' instead of the more traditional swearing by deities or elements or the Force), in addition to the fact he did not seem entirely at home in this state of being and time, she drew a conclusion and immediately tested it as she had never been one to beat around the bush uselessly.
"Are you what is called a 'Whill?' Not to concern yourself, they were never my thing either."
Carpentry was generally taken care of by the people who specialized in such things, and infrastructure was too closely related to politics for her comfort. Unfortunately, she knew a bit more of that. It was pretty nearly a requirement and instead of being taught per se, it was something one leaned in order to survive. One had to be able to move within society.

Dazbog stopped walking and blinked awkwardly at the question of dying. He put his hand to his chin, playing with the hairs on it for a moment.
"I can't remember. I hope not. If I did, I'd like to think the funeral was lovely."
Dazbog started walking again, admiring his surroundings like a tourist. He even magicked up a camera and began snapping pictures. He continued for several moments until the big question finally came. He tucked the camera into his beard and crossed his arms, clearing his throat.
"Why....yes....I am....I came to Corellia a few hours ago. I'm in Coronet City right now, and thought I'd visit while I was in town. So...you're pretty clever. I like that in you mortals. It's always nice to see that all that taxpayer funded education is not wasted."
Dazbog chuckled and continued walking straight down the hall.
"What do you mean, 'never your thing?' You didn't believe we were out there? Watching? Waiting? When the refresher door is closed and you really have to go, and you live alone, who do you think is in there? Especially when the door suddenly opens and no one is inside, but the refresher is cleaned floor to ceiling."

"You didn't go?" Jade arched an eyebrow skeptically. A cynical part of her soul thought it would be supremely amusing to attend her own funeral and watch the reaction of the attendees. If she was able to manifest through the Force undoubtedly some interesting shenanigans would take place. On a more serious note, sometimes she anticipated her own death as an old friend. At other times, she regretted her exile. Many things others took for granted were beyond her reach now. Well, not all of them. She was forging her own family on her own terms now.
"It would be a prime opportunity to discover who actually missed you, and who was relieved that you were dead. One could always carry out some effective...erm, justice when least expected."
As he pulled a camera from his beard and began snapping shots of the academy she suppressed a smile. But then, in her own culture, the ruling beings often seemed a bit on the edge of insanity, often indulging in capricious behavior that did not seem to make sense on the surface.
"Hmm, no, carpentry was never my thing. As for Whills...well, that is neither here nor there." She glanced over at him and absentmindedly brushed a tendril of hair behind her right ear. At the moment her dark hair was wound up into a knot at the nape of her neck and pinned with a set of matching jet and gold hairsticks. She shrugged, "Everyone believes in something... as for my refresher door, leave it alone. I've never heard that immortality gave one the incentive to be the ultimate creeper."
Luckily she was not, and would never be, familiar with that travesty of Terran literature idolizing an emotional, adolescent girl's decision between bestiality and necrophilia...in which one of the protagonists, an abusive molesting type personality stalked her constantly and stood at the end of her bed night after night 'watching her breathe.'
"Did you ever think the disparate Jedi academies on far-flung worlds would ever manage to unite in any way that was even remotely practical?"
She'd had her doubts about that one for years. So far, things seemed to be running way too smoothly. Not that she'd ever have said so however. Serrin had always been hopeful in terms of unification.

Dazbog patted his chest gently as he spoke with a smile.
"As I said, my dear, I don't remember. I have the strangest recollection of coffee scented roses, and being buried in freshly ground beans."
Dazbog made a hurt face when told that he was a creeper.
"Well don't point the finger at me, miss. I would never do such a thing. That would be one of my brothers."
Dazbog looked around, as if waiting for a lightning bolt to strike him, but after a moment he shrugged and continued the conversation.
"I will admit, I had my fair share of doubts, buts its nice to see that all of you have managed to play along so well. Makes these old eyes almost shed a tear."
Dazbog wiped his eye with a finger and went back to the usual jolly look on his face.
"It's always best to be wary of the future, though. Not even we know exactly what you people will do next. The magic of free will and hands that type like the wind."
Having effectively broken the fourth wall, he chuckled to himself and stopped for a moment to touch a pillar.
"I really should learn more about carpentry. Alas, my schtick is coffee. Not a bad one, mind you, but I may need to start taking night classes."

Jade rolled her eyes expressively before shooting back with, "and you expect me to believe that Odin will materialize in a fog any minute now?"
That would be quite a conundrum. Perhaps the universe would collapse if two Whills were in one place. Anyway, the fact he thought the Jedi were all playing nicely and pulling as a team---sometimes she wondered about that. But it just wasn't proper to inquire if a Whill was smoking his own coffee beans!
"Night classes? Now that would be a sight," in what was a most unusual outbreak of jollity for the diminutive Jedi Master, she chuckled, in fact, she outright laughed, and then looked surprised because even she was not expecting the busily typing hands to come up with something so out of character while in character.
"Perhaps the key is surprise," she replied musing, before looking back up at him, "a wise man once told me to always attack on ground where my enemy believes I will not, from an unexpected direction at an unexpected time. Defend where he, or she, believes I am not, and when he believes I will run. Because surprise is the key to victory, and speed is the key to surprise. For a soldier, speed is life."
"And then I became a Jedi---" she concluded with a rueful grimace.

Dazbog caught the eye and realized he may have gone just a bit too real. They must not catch on. He decided to play the old confused man routine.
"Wait, what timezone am I in anyway? Have all of you achieved mortals achieved Universal peace yet? Can you dispense cheese from cans yet?"
Dazbog whistled innocently, and then looked up at the ceiling and gave a wink to a certain someone that wasn't there. Coming back to reality, Dazbog scratched his chin and straightened his whiskers as he listen to Jade speak.
"Don't be so disappointed. The Jedi do good work. Maybe not super good work, but pretty good. I'd like to see more charity work instead of meditating on inner peace. That's just me though, I like to rock the boat. There are a lot of hungry and homeless non player characters out there."
Dazbog smiled, not realizing what he had just said, and not really caring if he did.
"Not to mention all the less fortunate. Why not do some missionary work? Bring the good word of the Jedi and civilization to the Outer Rims?"
Dazbog clasped his hands together and twiddled his thumbs.
"Like a Jedi Crusade!.....Except not....."
He chuckled at the memories of the last Jedi Crusade.

"While universal peace sounds pleasant in theory, I suspect it might be something far different from what one would hope when it comes down to practical reality. That depends on how one defines 'peace.'" Jade replied directly, clasping her hands behind her back. Her normally direct gaze softened into something more approaching curiosity as she inquired, "What is this 'cheese' you speak of?"
If Jade had known what Daz referred to by 'non-player characters' she might have been surprised. Was he referring to those who had only a small influence on events around them as opposed to more influential personalities? Or was he referring to the lonely Whills being avoided on the boards? Or not feeling welcome in actual events? In which case her author wonders why said Whills don't simply create characters and join plotlines?
"Crusades are to be avoided. It is all too easy to get wrapped up in an ideological frenzy and demand that everyone share one's point of view. Regardless of motives, there will be countless casualties. Surely, you are aware of this?" A dark eyebrow arched steeply as she regarded the much taller figure next to her. "Sometimes we have to wait until others are ready to accept what we call a more intelligent path. If the Jedi enforce their beliefs on those around them in violation of their wishes, how then are we different from the Sith?"
Jade wondered if Daz was going out of his way to provoke a philosophical discussion. He seemed to be a blend of serious and ---well, borderline insanity perhaps? She wondered what his parents thought of him when he was a child. Maybe he had been the holy terror variety of offspring.

Dazbog shrugged at the dismissal of his idea of a Crusade. If a deity told him to start a holy crusade to bring peace and prosperity to the Universe, he would ask how many people he would have to impale first. He had been a little bloodthirsty as of late. Maybe he was getting a second wind from his younger days as a fierce warriors. Or maybe he was just bored. Who really knew? Not him. At least he didn't think he knew.
"Still, my point stands that the Jedi should try and do more good. Give Oliver Twist some more gruel. Help an old lady cross the street. You might even get rewarded with a hard candy piece."
Dazbog pulled a can labeled 'Cheeze Whiz!' out from his beard, along with some round salted crackers and popped off the top of the can. There was a plastic nozzle under the cap, which he aimed at the cracker and pushed down on. His eyes lit up when the orange 'Cheeze' spread out on the cracker, which he then popped into his mouth, chewing happily. He held out a cracker and the can to Jade as they continued to walk down the incredible long entrance hall. Maybe they had turned around when coming to the end of the thread, and were making a lap?
"Want some? It's good."

"Uh---no, thank you I'm sure, but I am not hungry," which plain statement was the truth, even though it did little to hide the shock and mingled distaste that flashed across her face. In her opinion, Daz was more unsettling than humans, and to be sure there were still times when humans shocked her.
Unfortunately, the diminutive Jedi Master was not familiar with Oliver Twist. Her writer however is familiar with Mr Dickens and wonders if Daz enjoyed Bleak House, Our Mutual Friend, or Nicholas Nickleby the best? In her opinion, Oliver Twist was seriously disappointing. Since when has a young lad ever had so little to say for himself in such exciting circumstances? The narrator rests her case and disappears living a whistled tune echoing in the air behind her, something like "One Boy for Sale."
"Daz, if you know everything about everyone, etc, don't you get bored?" Jade inquired curiously. Many sought to know the future, but with knowledge comes a responsibility that can be worse than any physical prison. In fact, there was a saga written about one such being who then spent years attempting to unlearn the future. "Or have you only recently been elevated to Whilldom? In which case, what did you do before?" Probably something along the lines of growing coffee beans, but she couldn't picture him in a backwater espcaf as a barista.

Dazbog seemed a bit disappointed when Jade declined his offer of crackers and Cheeze Whiz. Still he didnot stop shoving the crackers covered in what he prayed was cheese into his own mouth. Needless to say his articulations suffered because of the fullness of his mouth
"Shay're pershfectly edibull. I ushuwally keep ssshe old beard sshtock'd in case of emergenshiesh."
He took out a small bottle of milk to wash down the salted crackers and Cheeze Whiz and smiled as he tucked away all the snacks and beverages. He seemed to forget that Jade had said she wasn't hungry.
"Oh, its because its weird. Beard food....well....yes. I suppose you aren't used to it yet. It'll come around in another couple thousand years, and I have a patent...I really should get around to submitting that old thing...Otherwise someone else will snatch the idea out from under my feet. I won't make a penny....Of course I don't need money...Hmmmm...."
Dazbog rubbed his chin and twirled his beard a bit as they continued walking. He was not intentionally trying to not answer Jade's questions, but he always got sidetracked when interacting with mortals. Some might call him a bit addle headed. Some had. Finally he answered the question.
"I don't know everything about everyone. Well....I do....That was a fib...but....its...complicated. I don't know the future. Don't you remember what I said? The Magic of Free Will. I can read about what's going on and guess, but as far as I know I'm still too young to know the future. Much too impatient to do all that meditation."
At the question of what he did before he was a Whill, Dazbog stopped looked down at Jade with a serious look. Deathly, scarily serious. Then it was gone, and the same old smile came back, with the cheerful, sparkling eyes of a man that was either disillusioned, or many hundreds of years younger than what Dazbog appeared to be. Or maybe a bit of both.
"My dear, telling secrets like that could get you erased from history. Suffice it to say I was mortal once, and lived, and a few of me may be still living. They're so....pleasant to watch."
Dazbog turn aside and wiped a tear from his cheek. Quickly then he turned back to Jade with the same smile. How did he always smile like that? The same smile, where the wrinkles and the one dimple made the old face look like it had someone so much younger trapped inside.
"I came here for a purpose. Is there anything I can do for you, my dear? Within reason of course. I may be a God but I am most certainly not a miracle worker....Well....I am....that was another fib. Pardon me, I'm trying to kick the habit. Wouldn't want to cause any trouble."
Dazbog once again chuckled at his own joke.

The petite Jedi Councilor was never going to get into the habit of 'beard food' for several reasons, but primarily she was never going to grow a beard. It simply wasn't possible. As Daz bounced between utter silliness and seriousness, she caught a glint of something in his eyes. Whatever it was he had seen, it had been profound. The things he had witnessed were perhaps disturbing to the degree that he wished to forget. And instead of beginning a spiral into drugs and alcoholism, he had retreated into a mask of childish silliness? Well, she couldn't call it childish either, as he was unlike any child she had ever seen.
However, Jade was not a 'people person.' And she did not have the level of skill that other Jedi who had devoted their energies to Healing. Her lips flattened into a thin line as she politely did not notice the tear he was wiping away.
She smiled faintly while pointing out that, "You came to find me, Daz, not the other way around. I don't believe in miracles." And for the most part that was true. She'd lived too long to believe that 'right' or 'good' will always win. The reality of life is that people as a whole don't help the weak. Individuals do.
Jade shrugged. "I am content. I have my position here on Corellia, and within the Order at large. I'm not hungry, I have a place to sleep. I know what it is to love. And be loved," she added that last almost as an afterthought.
"I suppose there is only one thing I want, well, there are many things, but the only thing that comes to mind is Serrin Roma. I want her back." Loss flickered through the emerald fire of the small woman's eyes. Serrin Roma had been her close friend through years of isolation, and she had been the one who finally convinced her to come to the Corellian Academy and take an active role in the Jedi Order. Shortly after her arrival on Corellia though, the charismatic Twi'Lek had disappeared.

Dazbog put his hands behind his back as they continued walking. He listened intently, responding to each of her words in kind when there was a pause.
"I go where I am needed...not where I need to be. At least...not because I myself need to be there, but because its my duty as a Whill."
Dazbog closed his eyes and tilted his face up to the ceiling as they continued walking, not bothering looking. He took a moment to look back on Jade's life again, smiling to himself. Yes, it was nice. This may be one of the few people who were almost entirely content with her life. And then she finally told him what she wanted.
Dazbog opened his eyes and his gaze went to the ground in sadness. Of course it would be one of the few things he was unable to do....
"I....I'm sorry Jade....But even I can't force people to return to the Universe if they do not want to....I remember Serrin. I met her a very....long time ago....She was a great person. But I cannot control free will...."
Dazbog remained silent for several minutes before speaking again.
"Even Whills have limits. Keep that between you and I though...."
Dazbog looked over to Jade and smiled slightly at her, moving his hands into the pockets of his robes.
"I may stay here for a while. It would be nice to be able take a closer at the Galaxy. My other attempts are....stalling."

She felt the sadness, and appreciated it. Such a compliment coming from a Whill towards a mortal was not to be simply ignored. Serrin would have accepted it quietly, making nothing of it. In a gesture that was unusual for her, as she did not often make any sort of physical contact with people, especially in public, Jade reached out and placed a gloved hand on Daz's arm and squeezed gently for a second before folding her hands into her robes again.
"Aye. She was."
She continued musingly, "I just wonder if anyone was there to shout her names to the gods---so they would know who was coming to join them in the afterlife."
Sometimes she had wished Serrin would return as a Force Ghost, if she was actually dead that is. Therein was the rub. Jade did not know for sure whether her old friend was really dead, or just missing. She was not sure she would ever have definitive knowledge on that score. And she did not know what Twi'Leks did for their funeral rites.
She flashed a smile in return, with a slight tilt of her head as she replied dryly, "Any choice I could stuff you into some Master's robes and get you to train a padawan?"
That would be one way to see the galaxy for sure!

Dazbog smiled, and tapped his chin with his right index finger as he once again gazed at the ceiling as he continued speaking.
"Everyone has someone. And in this particular case she has a Jedi and a Whill. But I'm not entirely sure if she is dead. Merely....resting? It's hard to tell when people disappear for extended periods of time...We may never truly know. At least not in this life."
Once again the conversation was becoming increasingly meta. It was simply Dazbog's personality to speak his thoughts out loud. Most of them anyway. If they ever got a hold of his secret recipes, his business on Tython would be doomed. Not that he got many customers anyway....
Dazbog paused for a moment when Jade suggested he take on a Padawan. His eyes lit up with genuine surprise. Him? A Master? Surely it was a jest, given the robe comment. What was wrong with his robes? He liked the green with brown stains. It fitted him perfectly.
"While I'm honored for the recommendation, but it would be inappropriate, given my....well...Whillyness. I would however like to know more about the current state of the Universe through the eyes of mortals. I am...limited in that regard. It's one thing to watch eternity, it is another to watch someone else and gauge their reaction and opinions. It would be an interesting chapter in the Journal. Besides..."
Dazbog looked over to Jade and somehow his smile widened even more. A kind, grandfather like smile.
"I like my current attire. Do you know how hard it is to create a coffee stain in the shape of Jabba the Hutt being eaten by a rancor?"

Evidently she had succeeded in moving the conversation from the absence of Serrin Roma onto more familiar, if not more sure, ground. She was not going to allow herself to wallow in grief. Though at some point she would have to allocate time for personal mourning. And then, she would be ready to move on. The life of the Academy had already marched on of necessity.
She arched an eyebrow as he attempted what she could only interpret as an attempt at a 'grandfatherly' smile. It was singularly odd on a being such as himself; however, she did not feel called upon to comment on it.
"I can only imagine," she replied wryly, though why anyone would want such a stain upon their garments was beyond her.
"As for the state of the universe, I'd think you would have a much more enveloping picture of it than those of us here on the ground. Still, things among the Jedi are much as usual, there are plenty of people to train and a shortage of people able to train them. Already we've broken with Jedi tradition in taking on more than one padawan at a time, and while the expediency of the moment may demand such a state of affairs, I find that I do not approve of it."
She shrugged.
"Do you know that I have a padawan?" this was something she had never seen for herself, and in truth, if Serrin had not disappeared in the way she had, Jade would not have ended up with Terra Kiros as a padawan. However, something had had to be done, and she was the one on the spot. So far, it seemed to be working out well.

Dazbog crossed his arms and closed his eyes once again as they walked, putting on a thinking face as he spoke. His eyebrows arched slightly, and he once again seemed to know where he was going even without looking. Partly because he was a Whill, partly because they had been walking around the Entrance hall for nearly an hour.
"Change is necessary for the future. Without it, you are doomed to the failures of the past. Training more than one Padawan can be a burden, and only those who have been proven confident in their abilities should do so...but its a smart move. There are only so many fully trained Jedi, and thousands of Younglings who are force sensitive. Better to get as many of them into the Order and trained than allow them to be reeled in by the Dark Side out of desperation...."
Dazbog opened his eyes again, and as he did so, nearly found himself nose to nose with a young Jedi Knight. Dazbog simply walked through the Jedi, something he had not intended to do, but was forced to. Better to show off some of his power than to have to apologize embarrassingly to the young man about him walking around with his eyes closed. Dazbog glanced back at the man, who was, on the inside, freaking out. On the outside he seemed fine, and merely paused for several minutes before shaking his head and continuing on his way.
Dazbog just acted like the whole thing did not happen and addressed Jade's mention of her Padawan, Terra Kiros.
"Blonde hair and blue...almost purple eyes. Yes. I know of her. Great potential, which ever path she ends up walking down....Of course we all do. Few know it."
Dazbog's tone had grown serious once more as he spoke of Jade's padawan.
"She was once Serrin Roma's padawan...and you feel....apprehension for taking her as your own?"

"Exactly," she confirmed as they turned down a side corridor leading deeper into the academy complex. "Therein lies the problem. If the good training Masters are spread out too thin, then padawans do not get the individualized training, personal attention, and bonding with the Master that is at the foundation of Jedi-hood. On the other hand, if they are simply left to themselves wanting to learn, they may be snapped up by the Dark Side."
Jade's eyes widened as he walked through another Knight and turned around to see what had happened. Understandably the young fellow was probably going to imbibe a bit more than necessary later that evening.
She turned back toward Daz, nodding, "That would be her."
"No, that isn't the issue." She considered for a moment. "I'm not the---friendliest---of people around. But I was there. I filled a void. Terra seems to be ok, in fact, she's progressing through her Trials and will be a Knight soon, unless something goes wrong. However, my style is much different from Serrin. She was very laid back, and I was raised in the middle of a military regime. Serrin suggested such and such a thing be done. I commanded it to be done and expected to be obeyed." It was a good thing her skin tone was deeper than the average human's, otherwise even in the dim light of the corridor he might have seen the brief flush that passed over her face. "Old habits die hard, and at my age I am too old to learn new tricks. For the most part we have gotten used to each other. Sometimes I even worry that she does not tell me things. There is a shadow on her that I am not sure she herself understands, whether she is aware of it, or refusing to acknowledge it. Either way, the future will tell us the way of it," she trailed off musingly.

Dazbog sighed. Jade was correct. If the Order spread itself too thin with training new padawans, those same future Jedi would suffer in their abilities. If there was conflict, and in a Universe such as this there always was, even after the recent war, the Jedi could face dire times.
"The only other option that I can see available would be to try and secure the worlds on the side of the Jedi and protect the people from those that would tempt them. But to do that, you would still need numbers. And I do not believe many would like the Jedi overseeing planetary security at such a high level...At least not yet."
Dazbog nodded as he listened to Jade explain her relationship with her Padawan. He understood what she meant. He had lived through similar times in his past, and he had seen many people that were unable to change what had been taught to them since an early age. It was like instinct. It never truly went away.
"When put in the position of Master, each person has their own way of teaching their students. It is not yours nor anyone else's fault that you have higher expectations for your Padawan, or for your method of training her. But sometimes the student must see the softer side to their teacher. Someone who is there for them, and only wants them to succeed. You should sit and talk with her more often."
Dazbog put his hands back into his pockets and shrugged.
"Speak to her as you have me. Better yet, speak to her as someone who cares, but not in a condescending way. You do not have to be friendly, but you have to be caring. Give it time and she may open up to you. All you can do is be there for her. It's all the advice I can give you on the matter."

"No. The last thing any of us needs is a Jedi Empire. We aren't the police or the secret service." The last thing Jade wanted was for the Jedi Order to become bogged down in political red tape. Also, the Jedi did not look for that kind of power and influence. Or they shouldn't. The Order simply did not have the manpower to rule worlds.
Jade nodded. She hadn't so much been asking for advice as simply talking to someone who wasn't closely affiliated with the Order, as if he was a neutral third party that had no stake in the outcome. "I have done exactly that as much as I can without attempting to force her confidence. In fact---"
She broke off for a moment, considering, and then she went on, "I gave her my name-flag and told her three of my names." Despite the Whills reputation for omniscience, she clarified in case he wasn't thinking of it at the moment. "Meaning that she is family to me. My only family, aside from one other."
Under the harsh sunlight passing through a window as they ambulated down the corridor, the contours of Jade's face seemed sharply drawn. Most people looked at the exterior, but to someone who knew how to see, it was plain that she was older than most people thought upon a passing glance. She had never visited her homeworld since leaving. Or contacted a family that had tried to see her executed.

Dazbog nodded again. Jade was again right that a Jedi Empire was a bad idea, at least in this dimension. He may have to jump around to a few "Other Corellias" to find a Jedi who would like the idea. Then he could sit back and see how it all turned out. Like a simulation, except it was real, at least to the people who were living it.
"Different people, different values, different personalities, different anatomies, different everything. She is young still. Something that means a great deal to you may not mean as much to her. Until she gives a similar gesture, I would saw you two are not yet at the level you need to be to truly be close."
Dazbog turned his head to look down at Jade who seemed to still be thinking about something else. Dazbog put his hand on the woman's shoulder and patted it.
"Still, it is best not to force these things, unless you want to drive her away. Young people are so....difficult these days. With their rock and rolling, roller disco, and don't even get me started on the hipping hopping."
Dazbog shook his head disappointingly.
"Sometimes you just have to guide them enough so they know what the difference between right and wrong is. Either that or abandon them. But we both know you would never do that, unless you were left with no other choice."
