Located in the open middle of the West Building, the courtyards provide a peaceful scene within the Enclave's walls, including gardens surrounding the outside, made up of local and exotic plants. Several small local trees grow scattered throughout the open ground, providing shade on sunny days and shelter on rainy days. Small nests can be seen in the trees' branches, built by smaller local birds for their young, and soft-gravel pathways lead between each set of doors leading into the courtyards. Above each set of doors, the symbol of the Jedi Shadows is seen engraved into the wall, the trees on each side of the central lightsaber standing out from the engraved surface.

04:00 AM Four hours before Zalor's meeting.
Silence filled the nearly empty courtyard. Not even the various birds that made their homes among the trees in the courtyard had begun chirping. It was the picture of peace and tranquility, which was perhaps what drew the tall Sith Jedi to meditating here. And it was here that he could be seen meditating, hovering a foot off the grass, in the center of the large courtyard.
His mind was deeply immersed in the Force, seeking answers to his never-ending list of questions. Most importantly, the Shrine of Alkar Nial. As he had explained to Master Vilor, in order for it to truly be destroyed, Nathrizim had to merge his whole Force spirit with the machine. Doing so however, would mean his death. The prospect troubled him deeply. He was not afraid of dying, he had died countless times throughout his impossibly long lifespan. It was the utter obliteration of his spirit, that he would cease to exist, both in the physical world and within the realm of the Force.

=Force Ghost of Barask Anneri=
"Nathrizim..."
A calm voice seemed to call out of nowhere. Oddly enough, there were no Jedi or Phantom Troopers out in the Courtyard with Nathrizim at the time. The voice seemed to belong to a being from another plane of existence - yet, it was one that Nathrizim had heard before...
"Nathrizim..."

A Force Projection of himself and Barask Anneri appeared beside his body in the courtyard as the tall Sith Jedi recognized the voice that was distantly calling him. The conversation would not be overheard though, as it was actually happening within his mind searching through the Force.
=Nathrizim= "Barask...I was beginning to wonder when we would next speak. Chris mentioned that you had spoken with him before."

=Barask Anneri=
The friendly figure of Barask Anneri smiled at Nathrizim. He appeared exactly as he did when Nathrizim had fought the Force Demon, yet he seemed even friendlier, now that there was no evil at hand to deal with.
"Christopher and I have spoken recently, yes. But, it is good to see you as well. I hope all is well with you, now that you are free from your bonds of the Force Demon."

The projection of the tall Sith nods his head, a small smile on his face, which quickly fades.
In some ways, it was a relief for him to talk with the long dead Jedi who had sent him on the path to the Light Side. Though he spoke and relied heavily on the other Jedi in the order, he knew none of them could truly handle the weight of his guilt. The burden of his sorrow. Only Barask Anneri would be able to give answer to the pain which wracked his mind and heart.
=Nathrizim= Nathrizim decides not to mince words, and speaks exactly his mind. He gives a voice to thoughts he has never voiced...thoughts he did not share with even Master Vilor. "Things are well for the moment. I am however concerned for the future, specifically of my own. When last we spoke, you said I still had an important role to play in the war against Zulataan and his Red Fang Sith. I am willing to do whatever I must to help, but I must know. Is it truly my destiny sacrifice myself to destroy the Shrine of Alkar Nial, to obliterate my very essence and cease to exist at all? Is my atonement truly bought at such a price?"
The projection walks over to a nearby flowerbed, squats down and observes the various plants growing there.
"There is still so much I have yet to do, and yet, I feel that my time is done. Tanara is still so young, I have so much still to teach her, to show her...but does she truly still need me? She has found a new protector, a new guardian...a partner. Someone to love and struggle with. I am but a relic to her now, merely an icon of an age long past."
The projection's hand attempts to gently brush the pedals of one of the flowers, but simply passes through it.
"I have taught many things to your grandson Zalor. Perhaps too much, perhaps not enough. Either way, he has much still to learn about himself, and the Force...but does he need me to do it? He has so many teachers, and still many more to meet. The boy will grow stronger than I will ever know. My presence would only serve to hinder his growth and potential."
Nathrizim's projection stands and walks over to a tree with a small birds nest. He gazes up at it, a sad expression on his face.
"I have done such terrible things in my life. Razed worlds, incinerated civilizations, slaughtered countless innocents...and perhaps worst of all, robbed my youngest granddaughter of her true family and heritage. She has suffered through more than she would ever deserve. And now, reunited with her sister. She, like Tanara, draws strength from her friends. For me to remain, would only serve as a reminder of all that has transpired. A thorn still wedged in the wound of her life. Were I to vanish, to cease to be, she would be free. She could breathe without the constant pain that my presence inflicts."
The tall projection of the Sith Jedi slowly lowers his head to stare at the grass.
"I am old, Barask. So very old. I can no longer feel the warmth of relevance, of being needed. My life, my long and terrible life, does it even matter anymore? What will they say about it? Will the new generation even remember my tale? Will they even care? What wisdom could they gleam from my story? A fool, ravaged and ruined by the dark side, obliterated to attain atonement."
The projection finally turns to face Barask again. His face, tortured and broken from sorrow.
"Have I existed only to meet oblivion?"

=Barask=
The once powerful Jedi Master's face grew sad. Like Zalor, he was sensitive to others' feelings, and he felt pity for Nathrizim. The Sith-now-Jedi was lost, Barask could tell, and he had yet to find his purpose. The ghost spoke once again...
"I cannot answer that question, my friend. Although I am one with the Force, even I do not yet know everything it has in store for you. What lies beyond your confrontation with the Shrine remains to be seen. But let me assure you, Nathrizim. You have not lost your purpose. Far from it. You can still serve as a teacher to those dear to you. They will listen. Zalor, my grandson, respects you - whether you know it or not. He knows that there are things that only you could teach him - you with your extensive knowledge. Zalor seeks knowledge. He desires to be the best Jedi Shadow there is, and while there are great teaches in this place...none have walked the paths you have, Nathrizim. I would wager that you have even met other Anneris besides him, as well. Maybe you could help him unlock secrets of his family's past. I know Zalor would like that."

The gravel marking the path they take through the gardens crunching softly beneath her feet, Kaiya heads for one of her favorite places to meditate; a small group of trees surrounded by flowers and other well maintained bushes and shrubs to make it a small, private area that is warmed by the sun and filled with the gentle, soothing scents of the plants. Choosing the base of one of the trees, Kaiya stretches her arms behind her as she asks her sister, "Is here alright for you vod? Or do you have another spot you'd prefer?" After the matter of where they'll meditate it settled, Kaiya sits down with her legs crossed, her back straight, and her hands resting on her knees.
Closing her eyes and focusing on her breathing to begin the task of clearing her mind, something that typically comes easy for her, Kaiya is unsettled briefly when it proves more challenging than usual; unbidden memories of her time spent struggling against the Darkness that had been set against her while she was imprisoned bubbling up from her subconscious to remind her of what she had endured. Shifting uneasily, Kaiya takes a slow, deep breath to try and quiet her mind and still the churning of her memories; consciously remembering the feel of the Twi'lek in her mind when the healer had freed her from the Darkness, reminding herself that the threat has passed, and that the past is something she should not allow to pull her backwards. Her breathing slows, but it is some time before Kaiya can still all that flitters about in her mind; her worry for her twin in particular proving difficult to silence so that she can focus instead on the music of the Force so that she can hear anything that It might be conveying to her in Its song.

*Ellie sat down across from her twin. Closing her eyes, she cleared her mind and sank into the force. Her mind cleared surprisingly fast, faster then normal. She found this somewhat curious in a way, normally her mind tried to wander on her. Memories began to flash before her, some she recognized, others she didn't. The ones she didn't recognize she believed were her twins, since she could feel the unease radiating off her in the force. The deeper she sank, and the more memories she saw, the more she began to realize that they were neither hers or her twins. But if they weren't either of theirs, then whose were they? The hair on the back of her neck suddenly stood up, she wasn't alone in her mind. A familiar feeling in the force began to gnaw at her like a primal urge, something dark and sinister was trying to seep into her mind. What surprised her the most was her lack of fear, instead she felt eager to explore what this feeling was. Cautiously at first, she began to probe this foreign feeling, the deeper she delved, the more this strange primal feeling began to wrap around her like a lovers embrace. She could feel it seeping in, giving her strength. Her curiosity and piece were broken by a voice whispering in her ear. The voice of the Sith she vowed to kill.* "Now are you beginning to understand the freedom we fight for? The strength and piece of mind that neither Jedi nor Sith can understand? Reach for that feeling child, do not let it fade and it will set you free." *Ellie began to panic as she tried to turn around and face the man, but found herself unable to. Her mind began to come crashing down around her as the darkness began to swallow her in a primal frenzy. She drew in a hard deep breath and fell backwards in her panic to get away from the darkness. It took her a moment to realize that she was crawling backwards away from her twin. She was no longer lost in the force, but back to the here and now. Her voice caught in her throat as she spoke.* "V..vod...did..did you feel that?"

Her bond with her twin as strong as ever, Kaiya's own troubled attempts to sink into the currents of meditation are soon thwarted entirely by the sudden sense of distress that she can feel radiating from Ellie. Trying to reorient her focus on Ellie to learn what has befallen her proves to be a mistake, Kaiya all but overwhelmed by the frantic tangle of emotions and the undeniable presence of the Dark Side that she can feel lingering around her twin.
Her own breathing ragged as Kaiya struggles to master the panic and worry welling up within her and threatening to overwhelm her, Kaiya nods her head shakily to let Ellie know that she did feel some of what her twin experience, unable to speak for a moment. When she has achieved a shaky, fragile calm, Kaiya rises to her knees and holds her hands up to try and let Ellie, who has backed away from her, know that there is no threat here - not from her at least - and, her tone calm even though she cannot quite keep the concern and almost wounded look in her eyes from betraying her worry for Ellie and the way that the sight of her twin recoiling from her has cut her deeply - and says, "I felt it too vod. It's over now though, and you're alright, you're ok now. Swallowing hard, hoping that she is not lying, Kaiya says, We can get through this, vod. We can. We will."

*Ellies heart rate began to slow as at the sight of her twin. Gilt began to form in her stomach as she realized that she was retreating from her sister.* "I..I'm sorry vod. I could her him in my mind, like he was trying to get a hold of me from somewhere." *Without thinking she got to her knees and shuffled forward before putting her arms around her twin, hugging her.* "I'm sorry. There was something there that kept calling me. I'm not sure what it was."

Before Kaiya has the chance to say anything to Eliie, the relative peace of the courtyard is broken as the shrill sounds of the academy's alarm siren blares out. Kaiya's expression goes from concerned for her twin to confused, but her confusion does not last long as the sky overhead darkens and the roaring engines of a ship cause her to look from the academy to the sky, where she sees . . . *The Cobalt came tearing out of orbit, fire engulfed the ships hull before quickly dying out. Forwards thrusters activated, slowing the ships rapid decent as it passed mere meters above the academy. As the frigate began to pass over the academy, small hatches on the ships underside opened up and a large group of beings attached to metal cables began to drop out. Each wore light flexible armor and carried carbines modified to fire slugs instead of blasters. As each being hit the end of their line, the cable pull tight and swung them towards the building. Some managed to break through windows others landed on balconies or walkways. Once all thirty of the soldiers were clear, the Cobalt picked up speed and headed away from the academy. The frigate wasn't even out of sight, and the soldiers were already moving towards their intended targets, communications, defense systems and generators.*
Her hand dropping without conscious thought to her lightsaber hilt, Kaiya finds herself standing as the chaotic sounds of breaking glass, boots hitting duracrete walkways or balconies, igniting lightsabers, and blaster fire join the wailing alarm. "Come on vod!" Kaiya yells, her confusion and panic fighting against her concern for her fellow Night Jedi already involved in the unexpected fighting that has broken out, and breaks into a run towards the academy's front entrance, eyes frantically searching for any attackers that might lay between them and the entrance.

*Ellie looked up as the massive ship passed overhead. Surprise overtook the fear that gripped her a moment ago. Her attention turned back to Kaiya when she yelled to her. Shaking the moment of surprise from her mind, she gathered herself and darted off after her twin. She glanced up in time to see an armored figure pass by a window. The armor was unfamiliar to her, as well as the ship that passed overhead.* "Who are these people vod? Are they part of another Mandalorian strike team? I've never seen armor like that!" *As they drew closer, the sounds of combat and shouting grew louder. Amid the blaster fire, Ellie heard a noise that was louder then the rest. A loud repeated pak like sound echoed down the halls. At first the sound confused Ellie, then she realized what it was. Slugthrowers. Whoever they were, they meant business.*

Thumbing her lightsaber on as they near the academy's front entrance, Kaiya shouts her answer to Ellie's question so that it carries over the symphony of noise erupting all around them as the Night Jedi and their mysterious attackers clash, "No idea vod!"
And then there is no more time for talking, Kaiya elbowing her twin aside as they rush through the entrance doors and she sees one of the armored assailants leveling a repeater that can only be a slugthrower of some kind from the noises Kaiya has heard and still hears ringing in her ears towards them. Time slows for a brief instant, slugs impacting against the walls where she and her twin had been a mere second ago, the sounds of impact seeming dull and distant until, just as quickly, time speeds up once more as the armored assailant calmly pivots their torso to strafe after Kaiya and Ellie. Dipping beneath the hail of slugs, Kaiya lifts an arm and throws a violent Force push towards the assailant, sending them sailing backwards and buying her and Ellie a moment to gather their bearings. Her blue eyes sweep the entrance hall, seeing several strewn bodies of younglings laying on the floor like so many dolls careless tossed aside, and then sweep upward to see a battle between two Masters and four of the armored attackers unfolding on the stairs. Her gaze returning back to where the attacker she had thrown is moving to regain their feet, Kaiya feels her anger at seeing the slain younglings and the thought of her home being visited by such senseless violence stir and coil within her, and uses it to fuel her summoning of the Force to grant her It's swiftness. Moving with Force assisted speed, feeling the rush of her passage against her face, Kaiya charges for the attacker she had thrown, her blue lightsaber keening shrilly at her right side as she sails towards their right side, intending to cleave them in two at the waist as she rushes past them to aid the Masters on the stairs . . .

*The soldier hit the ground with a crash, causing the wind to rush from his lungs. Quickly he regained his feet, just in time to see the Jedi that tossed him swing her lightsaber. He darted to his left to avoid the blade from cutting him in two, but wasn't quick enough. The lightsaber cut through his right forearm and barely grazed across his stomach, leaving a bad burn injury to his lower abdomen. He stumbled back from the near fatal blow and braced himself for another strike. The strike never came however as the Jedi darted up the flight of steps. Raising his right arm, the trooper didn't see any seared flesh and bone. Instead only burnt wires and cooling red metal. His gaze turned from his injured arm to the Jedi still standing in the doorway from which his attacker came. Calmly he reached down with his left hand and pulled out his sidearrm, a heavy blaster pistol. Raising it, he drew a bead on the new Jedi and fired.*
*Above him in the hallway, four more soldiers had taken cover while engaging two Jedi Masters. Their blaster carbines rang out in quick succession as their wielders picked specific targets. They weren't aiming for the Jedis center mass, rather their extremities. Each shot from their carbines was at a different body part then the last. Right now their job wasn't to kill these master, rather slow them down to give the other commandos what time they needed.*

*Ellie charged in after her sister, just in time to see the soldier lose his arm. Only to shake it off as her twin sprinted up the stairs. She abruptly came to a stop, her mind needing a moment to process what just happened. Her brain kicked back into overdrive as the man lifted a blaster at her. Grabbing for her lightsaber, her hand stopped at her belt and her heart skipped a beat. Her ever present blade was no longer there, her sister had it. Dodging to her left, Ellie just barely avoided the first blaster round. She dove behind a pillar for cover. Hesitating for a moment, she yelled for her sister.* "Vod! My lightsaber! Or something! This guy's still has some fight in him."

One of the Jedi Masters, a green skinned female Nikto, deflects an incoming blaster bolt aimed towards her arm and then cries out in pain as another hits her leg, as Kaiya reaches the top of the stairs. Seeing that a veritable storm of blaster fire is raining down on the pair of Masters - the second of which, an aged humanoid male, is calmly twirling his lightsaber in a flurry of motion too quick to follow that sends much of the blaster fire right back at the attackers firing relentlessly towards him - Kaiya grits her teeth as she looks towards a large statue and then waves her free hand to send it telekinetically hurtling towards the attackers to try and buy the Masters a brief opening to find better cover.
Darting forward as the incoming fire relents as the statue sails towards their attackers, Kaiya grabs the Nikto's hooded robes and drags her into the cover offered by a hallway off of the main walkway at the top of the stairs. No sooner has she reached the hallway than Kaiya hears her twin call out to her. The female Nikto, reigniting her lightsaber with a determined expression, tells Kaiya to go, and Kaiya nods before reaching down for her twin's lightsaber and turning to head back down the stairs. The Nikto, grimly regaining her feet and raising her lightsaber to cover Kaiya's maneuvering, does not glance back as Kaiya drops from the balcony to the hall below.
Keeping her own lightsaber held in front of her horizontally in case she needs to deflect any blaster fire, Kaiya throws Ellie's lightsaber out to her as, in hopes of distracting the injured attacker firing at her sister, she calls out loudly, "Vod!"

*Ellie glanced over at her twin when she dropped from the balcony. Reaching out, she grabbed the lightsaber and ignited the red blade. Casting her features in a deep crimson glow. She could feel life in the blade as she raised it and prepared for combat.* "Thanks vod!"

*The statue came flying towards the soldiers. Swiftly the first on barely managed to avoid it, the second however was knocked clean off his feet. The other two backed up some and took cover further down the hallway. Slowly staggering to his feet the disoriented, unable to find cover quick enough, he succumbed to blaster being deflected back at them.*
*Down below the one armed soldier turned his attention to Kaiya as she dropped from above. Swinging his blaster in her direction, he open fired. As he did, he began to backup, realizing that his was caught between his tow opponents.*

Taking advantage of the momentary lull afforded by the fact that his opponents have either succumbed to their own deflected blaster fire or elected to retreat and regroup, the aged human male Jedi Master deactivates his lightsaber so that it's sound cannot be used to pinpoint his location or his progress as he darts across the hall to the injured Nikto, helping her back to cover and checking her wound as he tells her to try and establish contact with the enclave's other defenders to gain a picture of the battle's scope and progress. As his fellow Jedi Master strives to contact the enclave's other residents, the human binds her wound with strips torn from his robe while attending to what he can hear as well as what he can sense through the Force so that he is attuned to any attackers that might be moving on their position.
Kaiya's landing is less graceful than intended, the blaster fire sent in her direction demanding that she choose between trying to deflect it or attempting to dodge it instead. Choosing to dodge, Kaiya arcs her body while calling on the Force to grant her additional acrobatic prowess, curling into a ball and flipping to the side. The flip succeeds, more or less, though the pain from the blaster bolt that grazes across her back causes her to land unsteadily, and she falls more than leaps towards the cover of a hallway as additional blaster bolts sail past her. Re-igniting her lightsaber after she regains her feet after sprawling in the hall, Kaiya looks over her shoulder, frowning as she sees the curl of smoke wafting up from her Neo-leather tunic. The armor had absorbed most of the blast, but the stinging pain in her back makes her aware of the fact that she did not escape entirely unscathed. Kaiya shakes her head, setting the pain aside as she takes a deep breath and stands to rejoin the fray. Lightsaber in front of her in a vertical guard, Kaiya charges back into the main hall, her blue eyes searching for the attacker and her twin's positions and dispositions so that she can choose the best course of action . . .
