Darma held his tongue, the woman seemed much more willing to nit pick to mince words than come to any particular agreement, though, he wondered how much of that was due to differing philosophies of life... As a sith she may not be accustomed to being held accountable, though as a member of Dark Tide, that shouldn't be a problem, as few, if any, successful economic systems can exist without some kind of accounting. So... was she working with a preconception of the republic then, even unconsciously, that was making it difficult for her to respond with candor? Darma knew he was fighting an uphill battle against the many preconceptions he had bout the sith, and their subjects, only they weren't subject any more than his own constituents were. Growing up in the republic, the sith had never once been connected to anything good, or even useful, only death, wanton destruction, and reckless wrath that eventually consumed even the wielder. This was not something he had been prepared for in all his education and previous experience. And even though he was trying to let his prejudices go, knowing their irrationality intellectually, he found it was not an easy thing to do. He could not readily see himself working with the sith in any way that required trust, a fault he knew, but a fact no less. He had nothing against the people of DT, he knew they cared no more or less for their masters than the citizens of the republic did theirs. Darma noticed that Belfima, was willing to try and appease the Sith Lord, at least marginally and try to bring things to the table in a constructive manner, and decided to let her handle these negotiations for a bit longer, hoping she'd accept the gift of prestige in brokering such an important deal, at least until the Sith Lord lost interest in negotiating with her. Darma held a vaguely attentive posture, though his face remained as implacable as a marble bust, only his eyes moving, as he tracked each speaker.

"I am not asking for a trade alliance, I am asking for inclusion in your private party but from what I am hearing, you are no better equipped to defend your own homes as members of this Republic than you would be by yourselves. Isn't that what this Republic is for? To provide stability and protection to the citizens of the galaxy? And yet I hear of turmoil unrelated to the Mandalorian plight has burned the homeworlds of the very leaders who serve here to make a better life for those back home. I came to offer the money of Dark Tide to help bolster protection of relief shipments of workers and food. We need medicine and supplies. But you cannot provide for your own. What is the failing of this body to protect the people who sent you here? Do you need soldier? Ships? Was action for Ryloth discussed in this room or were the Twi'leks left to their own defenses?"
This admission of the Republic's own shortcomings amounted to a fine present, wrapped with a large colorful bow to the Sith Lord. Perhaps she need not focus solely on the prejudices of the Senate charter agreement and instead let their bureaucracy be their undoing.

Belf'ima was somewhat angry, though she did not show it. Was Sinistra berating them for being attacked? The absurdity of this was appalling, especially after she had similarly been defeated. Her voice did lose a degree of gentleness, but was still respectful and without the hard edge that Crom'nen might have thrown into it.
If you must know, I learned of this attack not twenty minutes ago, since your arrival on Coruscant, so we have yet to have the opportunity to discuss this in this chamber. In fact, my announcement was news to all but our senior leadership. Rest assured that what can be done is already being done.
However, the nature of our fleets, our armed forces, our defenses, are not your business, nor yours to question us after a similar defeat. Those that choose to stand with the Republic know that our enemies are many, and that we make a public and convenient target to many. That is the nature of freedom. But we would rather choose to stand than to bend to the wishes of others. As a leader similarly burdened, I know that you share that sentiment with us. Is that not why you have come? To provide for your people by any means necessary, even if that means coming to us? Or have you come only to make suggestions on how we go about our business?

"Considering that my people have asked me to come before you to plead their case for inclusion in the Republic, you bet your ass it's my place to question your fleets, your military and your intelligence community if I am expected to turn their wellbeing over to this governing body. They will ask the same questions I do and would you begrudge them the answers as you have me? I knew the Mandalorians were a threat. I prepared for it as best I could. You did not send fleets to help me, nor did you send fleets to other worlds attacked by the Mandalorians so I wonder where these threats you speak of come from. Taung killed 32 million of your people. The Republic did not lift a finger to fight him. You all left that task to the decimated Jedi forces and the Dark Tide and after I lost thousands of men stopping the threat that was about to come here, you tell me I have no right to question how you do things? The blood, sweat and tears of mine are what allow you to draw breath today."
She steps away from the podium, exchanging a few words with Lorta. The pert blond carefully waits, no doubt listening to the prompts from the other noble houses in her ear. Solemnly, she nods to Sinistra who turns and retakes the podium.
"It is clear to me now that this Republic is flawed. The welfare of the citizens of the planets in Dark Tide would be better served where they are, but further than that, I believe the worlds of the Republic would be better off breaking ties with this preposterous charade and allying themselves with someone who has the resources to protect them and foster their growth rather than feed them empty promises. I will rebuild mine and whatever worlds that so choose to follow me. It is time to face the facts that corrupt politicians in a venue such as this are less concerned about the galaxy at large than a known Sith Lord."
She sat down as the pod turned and piloted itself back into the offloading area, the senate chambers erupting in shouts and jeers while others cheered the brutal honesty of the departing speaker. Once back among her staff in the waiting area, Sinistra lead them out of the Rotunda towards the landing pads. She spoke backwards over her shoulder to Gorja and Lorta as she rounded a corner.
"Get the HNN, have them ready when we land at Kuat."

Post by Palatine, Argos Theties Echion on Feb 26, 2014 14:26:09 GMT -8
Argos saw his opening, as the Sith's delegation left in a dignified manner. The young man rather liked the Lords stance, and her leaving it on this razor's edge made him want to clap in adoration to her resolve. Yet he had to maintain himself, as he rose to his feet. Argos - ever so vain - made sure that he looked the part of a Palatine before approaching the front of his senatorial pulpit. With a push of a button his hover-office uncoupled from the rotunda's side and hovered smoothly towards the pulpit were the chancellor and his cronies stood idling.
Palatine, Agros Theties Echion. Of House Echion. delegation of Brentaal, taking the floor... Came a voice from everywhere announcing Argos' arrival into the political arena.
"Chancellor, Vice-Chancellor, and esteemed Senators..." Argos began, his voice devoid of anything but confidence. "I have come to represent the people of Brentaal, as their collective elected voice... but I wonder if you will listen?" He stated with a slight shrug. "It seems that my people are not the only ones that have been ostracized from your bureaucratic commune, and though we aren't Sith or controlled by anything resembling a Sith faction. My people's needs have been forsaken. I have personally voiced my people's intentions of joining this senate and the Republic in the past. Not just in the hopes of establishing Brentaal as a supporter of the Republic, but also for help by the government which we provide many services to already. Yet our voice has gone unheard... it seems. As the Mandalorians have picketed my world and stolen countless resources from my people and those worlds - many of which are in here - that trust US to be their merchants."
Argos took a breath, acting like he was exasperated with the situation, before taking a sip of water. "I for one empathize with Lord Sinistra and her people. Along with all of the worlds that fall under your banner that have gone unheard, unaided, and forgotten; as mine has. It seems this government's willingness to help itself and not its people has been brought to grim light with this galactic-wide war with the Mandalorians, and I for one haven't the time to allow myself to pursue a membership to this house of fools any longer." Argos let the comment hang for a moment before continuing. "Until this senate and the Republic acknowledges their constituents in this post war hell you've allowed us to fall into. I and my people will remain our own sovereignty, and will deal with whomever we see fit to deal with."
Argos looked way from the chancellor's podium, casting his piercing gaze around the senate rotunda. "Thank you for your time esteemed senators."
Argos gave a respectful bow before his hover-office started to relink to the rotunda wall. Within minutes Argos and his bodyguards had vacated their seat.

Things had gone about as well as Darma had expected, and he honestly wouldn't mind seeing a few worlds vanish from teh republic's fold, for that is the nature of democracy, but he did not need to leave the sith to her foul games to accomplish his goals and he had reason enough to deny her requests. The upstart from Brentaal, who had oddly enough never been seen before, or even heard from, was now quite welcome to leave the way he'd come. His little fit would cost the republic several worlds but the decrease in numbers might assist the whole in learning to function as one body instead of many disparate parts. Perhaps there was something that could be brought forth from the fire yet.
Members of this Republic, Lord Sinistra doubts our resolve in assisting the worlds hurt by Taung's devastation, Yet she openly boasts that she will sit by and sulk while her people toil to scrape meaning from their shattered lives. Such duplicity aside, we are in fact doing everything we can for our worlds affected by the mandolorians. Carida is gone, there is little to be done there, Yavin IV is even now being rebuilt by the Jedi, and we have been asked to let them work by the current Jedi Council, of Brentaal, we have had neither word of loss nor request for aid in any form aside from the address you all just heard, and since that representative has declared his own disdain for this senate, and his own desire to make his own future among the stars, let it be so. Brentaal shall rebuild itself apart from the republic until further negotiation. As always, every world is free to leave this republic, which has never promised to be perfect in any way, or to join it so long as they do not intend to exploit it.
The floor will now recognize the Senator from Ryloth, Belf'ima, to report on the plight of her people and the findings of the military comity.

"This is absurd," Mikael mumbled to himself, perched beside the Mon Cala Chancellor Cihlbar. He'd followed the Senator in from their office conversation and had been dutifully silent from where he sat, drinking in all of Lord Sinistra's words and not liking the taste of them at all. "She's just done more damage to the Republic in one speech than a dozen fleets could do in a surprise attack. And now the leadership offers the body nothing but words."
Mikael was not an ambitious man by nature, but he was well-versed in politics. It was a necessity, coming from having to defend the 401st in numerous military committees and investigations. There were nuances in the senate which he would never understand. He was a member of the Republic military, and he understood action. Not talk.
"The Senate needs to answer her accusations," he whispered to the Mon Cala. "With a plan of action. Now."
The general had his own ideas for what would work in this situation. But it was not his place to make policy suggestions to the political animals unprompted.

Belf'ima's pod remained floating as it were, as she shook her head at the Lady's departure. Ladies and Gentlemen of the Republic, I represent a world that has suffered greatly, not just in this attack, but over time as slavers have continued to poach our people. Many of you know that I myself was born into a life of slavery. And while Senator Crom'nen has often commented upon the disparity between Core Worlds and those of the Outer Rim, let me assure of our resolve.
Do not be swayed by the Sith Lady, who came to us. She bowed to political pressure of her people and begged to come before us, but with insults and conclusions in hand already. She came only to seek to sway us and divide us. While Ryloth might support a resolution to include Sith into the Republic, I would not favor handing military specifications and defense strategies over to those who would make themselves our enemies. Now is not the time to prove her right through weakness. Now is the time for strength.
Belf'ima paused for a moment. She took a breath and allowed noise to die down before addressing her assigned topic.
The attack that Ryloth is currently suffering is from a as-of-yet unknown enemy. In fact, what little information that is available comes from local news outlets in Kala'uun. What we know is that sometime a few hours ago, a hostile fleet jumped into orbit and engaged the Republic fleet stationed there. For some unknown reason, the Jedi charged with the defense of that world abandoned the defenses entirely at the enemy arrival. Not only this, but the countermanded the mandate given to the fleet by the Republic, and ordered the fleet to abandon their post as well, and have not returned. They left behind a derelict Star Destroyer, which the hostile force used tractor beams to lower into orbit at a precise angle. Specifically, they targeted the Twi'lek Clan leaders in the capitol, leaving much collateral damage in the city.
As many of you know, the Senator left on a classified mission for the Republic, of which I am not even aware of the nature. His travels had apparently taken him back to Ryloth, where he is currently leading the counter-attack on the ground. He has taken control of things until a new Clan Council can be appointed.
As a member of the Military Committee, I know that our nearest reinforcement would take two days to travel by hyperspace to get there. If they are attempting to seize control, the battle will be over by then. If they are, as reports suggest, pirate who are rounding up slaves, they will have departed by then. As much as it pains my heart to say it, we here can do nothing for the time being, other than seek to hold those responsible accountable.
Belf'ima looked down at her hands. She realized that they were shaking, and a tear formed in her eye. She was not typically prone to displays of emotion; control over emotions had been beaten into her as a slave. Still, she was scared, for her people and especially for Crom'nen. That is my recommendation for the time being. I would also ask the Republic to fulfill it's charter with Ryloth and provide us with a fleet, and this time, training for crews of our own so that we are not abandoned again.

The senate buzzed with conversation in over a thousand languages, some speaking in favor of the Lord Sinistra and Palatine's call to abandon the republic, citing the attack on Ryloth as the republic's weakness. Others spoke with pity of Belf'ima and the plight of Ryloth, a few were even sincere. Many made mockery of the Vice-Chancellor's words, disparaging of the corruptness of the republic's senate, and the frequency with which the republic did nothing when it should have acted, very few of these are willing to accept responsibility for their part in the matters being discussed. Darma sat listening and hoped that someone would step forward to bring the republic together, knowing he lacked the necessary skill in leadership, having been trained as manager and an accountant, the bickering disparity disgusted him, but he knew that there was nothing to be done about it legally. He found himself envious of the sith, and their iron-fisted, and ever so efficient, rule of the empire. He quickly abandoned those thoughts, and reproved himself for his own moral slip of character.
He took a deep breath to calm himself and reminded himself that he was responsible only for his own actions, and that only he could choose which path he would walk. washing his head of the fermenting arguments of the senate about him, he held up his hands for silence. When the room had quieted to merely a murmuring whisper, the best he was likely to get, He spoke once more.
On behalf of the galactic senate, which voted to accept the charter of Ryloth, I gladly grant your request Senator Belf'ima. As the senator for Rendili, I second Ryloth's proposed course of action regarding the current situation on Ryloth.
Darma sat down, indicating that he had finished speaking for the time being, as the senate erupted once more into uproar, the legality of his statement was the first thing questioned though the beings who happened to be well versed in their republic laws new that everything Darma had said was legal. Though the law providing him such provision was obscure and technically written for other purposes, it had not been well written and so Darma was covered, legally anyway. The legality aside, the fact that he had effectively dictated the senate's response, even on something that had majority support, was simply outrageous. The speaker of the senate eventually regained order, and the motion to follow the plan outlined by senator Belf'ima, after some debate was passed, and set a new senate record for the narrowest margin in the last two hundred years. Even despite this minor miracle support for the Vice-Chancellor plummeted to a record low of 19% approval, and he was not expected to be re-elected to any position.

Ludo sends the rest of the delegation ahead without him as he enters the darkened rotunda alone. He makes his way slowly to his pod and sits in his chair in silence for a time. He had finally returned to Coruscant. When he left in disgrace all those years ago, he knew that one day he would return. What use had the galaxy with a ranger who failed to protect his jedi and his team? He knew the truth, however. He knew that his partner had betrayed them. He eventually caught up with Starholder and brought an end to that betrayal. A decade had passed since that fateful day, and yet he still had not finished playing games.
Finally, he stands and engages the repulserlifts and begins to float around the massive room. The empry pods spoke volumes. This building which had once been a shrine to idealism had become a monument to choas. The senate had once housed delegations from every major system in the known galaxy, but now it seemed sparsely occupied. Although it boasted the name of Galactic Republic, it was in truth nothing other than a minor pawn in the great galactic game. How did this once paramount piece become so insignificant? Ludo had studied the game with intense interest for years. Although minor now, the Republic could once again take a prominent role in the movings of the galaxy.
He looked around the empty room again. They spent too much time relying on the jedi to help them out of their problems. The jedi order had been decimated by this conflict and they graced too few to adequately defend their own holdings, yet alone the republic. No, the Republic needed to rely upon themselves, for a change. They needed to add their strength to that of the jedi if they ever hoped to once again take their rightful place in the game.
He looks toward Crom’nen’s pod. Over the last two years, The Golden Tongue had proven his eloquence and had the entire senate eating out of his hand. Ludo knew, however, his secret past. He knew what Crom’nen had done over the ten years he had disappeared from public life. He knew about the music box. Five years ago Crom’nen had manipulated an invitation to the marriage between a fellow clansman and the daughter of a Chandrillan noble in order to obtain the box. “What a pity that the marriage had never taken place,” he thought to himself sarcastically. Ludo’s nemesis had seen to that. Now, however, the young lady was under Ludo’s protection and the young man who had kidnapped her had hidden himself among the jungles of Rodia. Eventually he would have to deal with young Starholder, but not today. He guided his pod back into its home and got up to leave the Rotunda.

The meeting came to a close and the Mon Cal Chancellor ceremoniously brought the meeting to a close and addressed the General that accompanied him.
I am appointing you to the military council. Join Darmia and the rest and ascertain what is going on here.
The Dac brings his bulbous eyes to bear the grizzled jedi to his right. Something tells me that there is more afoot then everyone sees this moment. That is all General, serve faithfully . . .and do nothing that is not becoming of an officer of your station. . .
The Mon Cal Chancellor, accompanied by the jedi and his four honor guard returns to his office. . . . .

The Dais rose from the middle of the Senate Rotunda, flanked by the two Senatorial honor guards and the Vice Chancellor, the Dacian Supreme Chancellor placed his webbed hands in front of stoically tapping sending personal notes to his allies and enemies alike in the Senate to join him in the Senate for the regularly scheduled general Senate meeting. The Senators themselves may not feel as if they have a lot to report out from their specific sub committees, but if they were going to allow partisan politics to paralyze their potency-- then Cihlbar will begin to present his.
Up to this point, the Supreme Chancellor tried to delicately walk the path between rich developed and largely human-dominated core worlds, and the more diversely-populated developing outlying systems that put their hope in him as an 'alien' (even though the Mon Cala people have always been well developed and a major proprietary of the Republic in its many iterations).
Now the Supreme Chancellor must show what the Mon Cala are truly known for, strength in crisis. . . . .

Bel'fima sat in Ryloth's pod alone. She wore her favorite yellow dress. It may not be what looked best on her, but it provided great comfort while still looking very pretty. She had a white flower pinned to her collar, a symbol she wore in public ever since the attack on Ryloth. She had been interviewed a dozen times for the holonet, plus various smaller, local sources. Everyone had two questions that they dared not ask. Were the Jedi truly responsible? Where was Crom'nen? Both questions would be answered now. Bel'fima would stand now. She would be fair. She would abstain from any measures that came out of this today. But she would stand for her people, no matter what.

In his several years of service to the Jedi so far, Master Rawkill had not once before visited the Senate building, let alone The Senate Rotunda, the spiritual heart of the Galactic Republic. But there was a first time for everything, and today marked the first visit he had made to this ancient hall of politics and leadership, perhaps not under the most prefered of situations however. Today he was here in a semi-official capacity, as he made his way into the Visitor's Deck, where he made his way over to a seat which he sat cross-legged on, before it rose into the air a couple feet so he could get a better view. Usually Rawkill would have passed up coming to one of these Senate Meetings, since he had usually prefered to work directly with the people, instead of sitting in a room so far away from them. But that had changed when it was revealed that the events of Ryloth would be discussed and Jedi Knight Mahir would be brought in, whether as a witness or as an accused, Rawkill was not entirely sure. If it was the latter, than the Jedi would need to be ready to react to what ever would come of this. That was where he came in, as a member of both the Council of First Knowledge, and Deputy Headmaster of the Yavin Academy, He had volunteered to sit in on this meeting, so as to advise the High Council. For now, he could only wait for everyone to arrive so that the meeting could begin

Darma stood with the Chancellor awaiting the expected trial of the Jedi that had been at Ryloth when things went so terribly wrong. It would be nice to finally know what had gone wrong, instead of the endless speculation of self proclaimed experts. His expression was one of confidence and hope, knowing that eventually things would return to a more relaxed and prosperous pace. A lot had happened since the last meeting, and Darma was sincerely glad that there was still a meeting to be had.

The time has come.
Supreme Chancellor Cihlbar keys another button on the dais and with three loud sharp taps similar to gavel rangs out across the Rotunda. Floating holocamms raise out from hidden storage compartments across the hallowed hall. A few float on stand by across the building, a few more floating around the Mon Cala and dais.
May this meeting of the Galactic Senate come to order, and may the free being's of this galaxy's will be served. We all know why we are here, but we would have nothing without procedure. I must hear a motion.

Senator Fortis shook his head, having read over the files about what was supposed to go on, and even that made him believe that the main reason behind this Norky Tribunal was based that a planet without an independent navy to defend it. It seemed truly sad, now while his own planet did not have a strong navy of its own, The intergalactic Banking Clan reached an arrangement that to keep their base on world, they would provide a serving Navy to supplement for the mutual protection.
I move to open the floor for a Fair and Open Hearing regarding the Jedi order’s choice of Tactics on Ryloth.

Ludo rushed into the Tralus pod, flanked by his Drall advisor. While his friend had a seat, he stood. Finally, today, he would get to see the Golden Tongue in person. Crom'nen was a legend of both politics and the underworld. And today, he brought a Jedi. As a former Antarian Ranger and ardent supporter of the Jedi, Ludo was disgusted by this. And yet, he was intrigued. Crom'nen was a gamesman, like himself. He was not prone to fits of fancy or to allow personal feelings to interfere with a larger agenda. He did not move pieces without a purpose. He was playing a game today, and Ludo had to know how it came out. He pushed the button to amplify his voice.
I second the motion.

Pardon the Senators, but the motion is deemed Out of Order.
The Supreme Chancellor is overtly outraged about what is going to transpired and will not make this easy for the opposition in the Senate.
Motions must bring tangible action or resolution to the Republic. A task force or a directive sub committee to launch an investigation, but here is a place of authority and action. The Jedi Order is not on trial here, nor can they be. Individuals can be brought to be accused and evidence brought against them for high crimes and treason against the Republic, to be voted on by a super majority. That individual may be tried in open Senate, but with fair counsel and representation.
Does any one have any such motion?
