Dreams' End- Principal Authors: Auri
- Who can post on this thread: Auri
- I want to receive critical responses: Y
- I will be using standard Universe rules here (e.g., canon-only, fleet limits, etc.): Y
Location: SpaceTimeframe: 15 years previousWith the Imperials coming so did the virus. Those that escaped infection were rounded up and forced apart from family, the captured were boarded onto ships and placed into stasis. Their last memories were watching their families torn apart, dead or dreaming they had no idea where those they loved were.
This is the story of Auri's awakening, the moment when the dreams came to the end and the nightmares started.
(Posts won't always directly follow on, these memories are fragmented and dark)

She wasn’t sure if it was the hum or the feeling of movement that she was aware of first, there was no sudden feeling of asleep and the awake, it was a long hard slog up the hill to opening her eyes and seeing the metal interior of the hull beyond the transparent plastisteel hood. The light was bright, but she blinked several times to clear her vision, the feeling of her skin being dry and cracked hurt as she tried to open them wider. She started to become aware of her fingers starting to twitch, feeling her legs spasm and relax as the muscles remembered how to move her, and her mind scoured her memories to try and find out why she was in this box on a ship. It was with a deep rattling inhalation that she started to have flashbacks to stormtroopers arriving, being dragged through the streets, watching those that resisted too much being beaten down. She winced at the feeling of pain in her arm from the gloved hand that had pulled her by the shoulder and forced her into the stasis pod, trying to scream as the controls were turned and she found herself pushed into dark silence.
Reaching up Auri’s hands pushed against the hood, trying to get herself free of its confines as she became aware that her breath was quickening with a slight rising panic. Where was she and why was she awake? Her hand pressed hard, and she felt the pod move a tiny amount hopeful that with a little more effort she could get herself free and find out what was going on. Taking a deep breath she gave a strong shove and felt a scream rip from her lungs, above her the pod had turned red, a deep crimson fluid ran down the sides around her. Auri screamed and thrashed in her case, unsure of where the blood was coming from, unsure if it was hers or not. A hand suddenly thumped down on the top, slipping through the gore, wiping a gap to show Auri the outside world again. Auri’s scream paused a moment as she took in the man’s silver face, his eyes wide in terror and pain as blood trickled from the corner of his mouth. He slowly slid down to the floor beside her, lying still and for a moment neither one of them breathed; one dead, one petrified. The pod opened up and a man stood there looking at her, a leering grin on his face as he peered into hers. He reached in to grab her the collar of her top, pulling her up into a seated position, Auri reached with her hands flailing in front of her as she tried to find some purchase. She saw her own skin had started to pale to silver too, her eyes darting around the room, but unable to focus on anything except flashes of red that she wished she couldn’t see.
“She’s a keeper, boss’ll want her, chain her up with the others that will come back with us.”
With the mention of others, Auri noticed a couple of females huddled together by the airlock door, the terror obvious in their eyes, a terror she guessed was reflected in her own. The male dragged her across the room, her legs not finding the strength to walk trailed her feet through patched of warm dampness, a sickly metallic smell reached her nostrils and inside she wondered how many pods had been opened. She slumped down as the hand let her go, crawling nearer to the other pair for protection and comfort. She felt like a child trying to wake up from a nightmare and not being able to pull themselves completely out of it, she tried to push the memory of her mother out of her head, she didn’t want to imagine that face in all this horror. Closing her eyes, tears spilled silently down her cheeks, it would be over soon she could wake up then.

She was gasping for breath as she awoke, thrashing on the cold hard floor as she struggled for air. Auri felt a hand on her shoulder, twisting round to bare her teeth at the unknown touch, a guttural snarl reaching her lips; the eyes that met hers were gentle and the hand lightly stroked her as they tried to calm her. There were only four of them that were still alive, and each willed the others to hold on, but the wish was half selfish as they knew that they had more of a chance of being ignored and left alone if others were there to take the attention away.
Auri’s breath slowed and became a ragged sigh, she had no memory of falling asleep and wondered if she had just passed out in the end. Gently she reached up to her neck and felt the cold metal of the solid slave collar that was tight around it; she wished she could pull it off but she had tried for hours to tug it open when it had been put there, it wasn’t even if it was bolted closed, they had welded them onto all of the women they had decided to keep from the ship. She had no idea how many had been sleeping in those pods with her, but the floor had been awash with blood by the time they had dragged the survivors off onto their own ship.
She pushed herself up into a seated position, the girl that had been soothing her settled beside her on the floor and they both held onto each other. She had never met them before she awoke, but they were the closest thing to family she had right now and she clung to them like long lost sisters. The thought of family stung her eyes with tears, she tried to push away the thought that they were amongst the dead and left behind, but her mind kept seeing their faces filled with fear and pain as they died. She fought back the welling grief and hugged her new sister tighter, they were going to make it through this, she wasn’t going to die here.
With a metal groan the door to their cell slid open, only Auri looked up, the other women hiding their faces in fear that they would be chosen to go. However, Auri looked with defiance at her capture, letting his face sear onto her eyeballs so that she would remember it the day she ripped out his throat and left him drowning on the floor instead. Her eyes burnt in the darkness, but the pirate didn’t want a fight tonight so while he sneered at Auri’s face his hands reached out and pulled one of the others from the floor, dragging her from the cell behind him. Auri was the only one they hadn’t yet broken, she’d fight with her dying breath and they would regret not killing her the second they had laid eyes on her.
