Howdy folks, your friendly neighborhood Sith Lord here once again looking to kick up what promises to be one of the most fun-filled, intrigue-laden, mouth-wateringly good-times RP arcs the site has ever seen. Some of you may have seen this in the previous iterations of attempting this particular RP endeavor, but given the dynamics of the site as they are today and the stepping-forward of some fine folks willing to help coordinate all involved, I feel the time is right to take another crack at this thing. With that being said, let's knock out some basics:
What's this RP all about?
The basic premise is pretty simple: The Sith find an artifact of immense power and use it to threaten the galaxy. The Jedi rise up in opposition of this and ultimately win the day, but not without challenges along the way.
What makes this different from any other RP?
What makes this RP different from most others is that it's entirely planned ahead of time with clearly defined roles - think of it more as a play than necessarily an off-the-cuff on-the-fly story. The story is discussed beforehand, and roles and ultimate outcomes known aforethought to ensure that everyone gets what they want out of it and can have a clear direction for their character's involvement.
But that sounds boring! Can't we improvise?
To a degree, of course! Although the ultimate outcome of each "chapter" is predetermined, the big story is made of countless smaller, individual-level stories. These are yours! A lightsaber battle, a verbal joust, a choice made, all of these are yours to act out and play a role in the direction of the ultimate arc. Think of the story as a river, and even though we know where the river is going, you can still toss your rock in to make a splash!
Who can participate?
Anyone and everyone! The best part about a predetermined story is that we can find a role for everyone. Want to portray your character as a hard-headed military commander? No sweat! Have a plucky smuggling crew that wants some spotlight? Easily done. Want to be the lone wolf investigator solving crimes and unraveling a grand conspiracy? You got it! Any role you can conceive of can be made to happen when we collaborate and are willing to compromise. Your role in this story is precisely that - yours!
But this is happening on my planet! I don't want to lose my character or their things!
As this is a closed RP, with participation only guaranteed by agreement to the rules of the RP, the impact on the "canon" of the galaxy is entirely optional. Consider this a "split universe" if you will, with its effects taking place on the Universe boards (most likely in temporary RP locations) but the story phasing in and out of the true timeline of events of the Universe boards themselves. While this can sound dull, the reality is this lets us do all the fun things that make Star Wars great: titanic battles, superweapons, unreasonably powerful Force users, you name it!
Sounds cool! How can I participate?
Simply declare your interest in this thread or reach out to a designated RP Planner (coming soon!). What we need right now is pitches on the individual chapters - think of each as another step on the way to the ultimate endgame. Throw us an idea for a sub-arc, or what you're looking for, or what you want to contribute. When all's said and done, we need content, and we need you to help us generate it!
For all intents and purposes, we will consider the storyline to be largely between the "good guys" and the "bad guys" with user Mike Frantz coordinating the good guys and myself coordinating the bad guys. Again, these designations are simply for logistics' sake and need not reflect your actual role in the story itself. Which camp you place yourself in, even if your character is of mixed morality, is entirely your choice.
The key to making this work is compromise and a willingness to fit your character into a box of a certain size. Not everyone can win every engagement - every battle has to have a winner and a loser to make a good story. The choice lies in the scale of that victory - maybe your evil plan is thwarted, maybe the bad guys get away, maybe both sides lose some and gain some. That dynamic is key to representing a good character, and good characters make good stories. Come to the table willing to take one for the team, knowing that everyone will get their chance to shine.
This post will serve as the general intro, with the following post being a living update of the planned arcs that will be added to as new implements are sorted out. Please feel free to contribute ideas freely, and don't be afraid to ask questions.
Hope we can put something great together! The potential of this arc is immense, but only if you decide to be involved! Thanks for reading.
