The captain of the matalok in geosynchronous orbit above the planet watched as a pair of space whale adolescents were aided up out of the atmosphere and into the vacuum of space.
“Like a marine creature,” commented his weapons officer as the beasts became instantly graceful upon entering the weightless environment of their natural habitat. “Ungainly in atmosphere, but at home in their element.” The captain observed the creatures as they hesitated following their coralskipper and yorick-vec escorts. The young whales, only in an artificial vacuum environment could likely sense that they were in much deeper metaphorical water. The creatures seemed to have extra energy and their attitudes and behavior was like children in a new playground, moving here and there in excitement as the coralskippers and yorick-vec allowed them a small degree of freedom before calling them back with frequencies the whales were trained to respond to. It would take several days of getting the beasts acclimated to their new environments before they were going to try to take them to darkspace….hyperspace. The beasts were responding well to their training, with some coral implants to back it up. The captain and his ship would be responsible for retrieving the breasts should they choose to disobey their masters.
The whales started settling down as they were allowed to move further and further, faster than they ever had before and started burning off some of that child energy. The captain noted that the whales seemed to be a predatory species, which was what he had been briefed on, and the creatures seemed to respond readily to small prey items that the yorick-vec would release as behavior reinforcements. The yorick-vec moved back and forth under the captain’s watchful gaze, the beasts moving around the orbit of the planet.
Three days later the shapers and beast handlers were confident of their preparations and set a metabolizing agent on some metal pieces that they had placed on the creatures backs. The agent would shed tachyons in to space as tracers should the whales get lost. The decoy yorick-vec moved and jumped a short distance away, so to speak, still in system, and started calling to the whales. The whales turned towards the target vessel and disappeared in a flicker of motion. A brilliant streak of light pointed arrow straight along the creatures trajectory. A moment later the yorick-vec reported that the whales had arrived. A few moments later one of the yorick-vec in near orbit called and the whales turned and leapt back, dropping out of hyperspace and moving rapidly through the distance between them and their prize morsel of food.
The captain of the matalok had the sensor officer and weapons officer tracking the whales, measuring their speed. The creatures were fast, incredibly fast as they moved their flukes and bodies, coralskippers were moving with them, encouraging a pack behavior, and it seemed that some of the coralskippers were struggling to keep up. The whales were indeed predators of space. The speed and agility of the creatures was deceptive, one of them decided to investigate the matalok moving within a few dozen meters before the other one came to see what had attracted the first’s interest. Soon they were chasing each other around the matalok, the hundred meter long creatures racing round and round as they alternated who was chasing and who was the pursuer. Soon the shapers called the creatures again, and the beasts immediately turned and leapt to hyperspace towards the yorick-vec that had moved as far away in the system as possible. The speed with which they turned and jumped could only come from an organic sense of instinct. After another return jump, this time with the yorick-vec on their tails, the shapers felt that it was enough for the day, having obtained valuable information from the whales nervous systems and monitoring biots that they had grown into the beasts to watch the systems they had suspected were part of what made them capable of going to hyperspace, communicating, navigating, and so much more.
The coralskippers had been busy building a huge webbed net with the help of some modified ginntho spiders. The casting had taken the full six hours the whales had been being observed. The net encompassed hundreds of cubic kilometers of space, the monstrous enhanced biots burning through huge amounts of food and materials to create the space corral. The corral would keep the whales contained, but give them plenty of room to frolic in the coming days as the coralskippers would expand their habitat as they continued to be observed and tested by the Shapers.

The coralskippers and yorik-vec continued to create another corral in space, these were planned to be used with the Purrgil , the net continued to stretch further and further, being tied in to power cells and dovin basals to keep the creatures in.
The captain of the matalok was informed that the commander would be returning shortly with the second matalok in order to bolster the defense of the planet. Rumors were that a war had started, it seemed that peace was nothing but a fevered dream.

The second matalok returned to orbit and took up station alongside its sister ship. The whale ship and gralloc pens had continued to grow and expand, the shapers continuing to work with the beasts on their movement and intelligence tests, the purrgil being fitted with restraint creatures and tested within the containments.
A coralskipper squadron was scattered out patrolling the system, rotating every few hours with other squadrons from the mataloks.

A yorik-vec carrying Esthh Krazhmir up from the surface docked with one of the mataloks, and the pair began moving towards the edge of the gravity well. They were on their way to assist Nem Yin at a place called Ralltir in the Core. Imperials vs Imperials, they were no longer considered infidels, but they were a known enemy, at least he thought so. He expected things to be a bit confused, but such was civil wars.
The pair of mataloks reached the fuzzy edge of the gravity well and leapt to darkspace.

[ Nebula “Nibs” Enibry | Bridge | Erebus-class Dungeon Ship | Erebus ] Attn: ReaperUpon waking in the relative safety of the Admin's station on the Run, Nibs set about reconnecting to the droid in the Erebus, the droid made a soft musical chime that announced Nibs' presence, along with the glowing blue eyes. Seeing no one, Nibs took it upon herself to get to the bridge and assess the arrival time. Reaper appeared shortly, and a little while later, Deni showed up, with bedhead.
:: Hey, :: greeted Nibs, and she resumed inspecting the consoles. It was a trifle unnecessary, as Reaper was thorough, he had the control of the ship down to a science.
When the ship exited hyperspace, Nibs began to feed information into the computers.
:: I've keyed in the last known location of the hideout, :: she said, :: how do you wanna play it? Sneaky? Or break the doors down, guns blazing? ::

Reaper moved away from the viewport and over to the command table that occupied much of the center of the bridge. Give the Erebus' design intention as a Dungeon Ship, the Bridge was meant to act as the beating heart of the entire operation with the command table controlling it all. Reaper brought up the map of Varonat and overlaid the location data for their quarry, which caused the massive holographic planet to zoom in closer to a more concentrated aerial view There's a built up village nearby to his hideout, so we wont want to take the Erebus too close. It also means too hot of an assault will draw a lot of unwanted attention... We'll take the Stealth Assault Shuttle down, set up camp and then infiltrate the compound. We'll hopefully catch him unaware, but if not... We'll burn it all to the ground.

Esthh stared out the viewport, really a chunk of clear shell at the pair heavily damaged Matalok class cruisers. He had just gotten the word from one of the ship shapers that the ships were not likely to survive. He stood glowering for another moment, his mind coursing over the brief history that had transpired with the ships...relatively speaking, the ships were actually quite old. Outdated. What was the human growers expression… ‘time to put them out to pasture’. An interesting euphemism, indicating either rest or the end of a life. It was however, their time. Just as a predator had to either adapt or be replaced at some point, these ships needed to be replaced, there was only so much adaptation that could be done. The battle at Ralltir had confirmed it. The strike from the enemy ships that hadnt even been detected before the bolts were flashing out of the void. Unacceptable losses in a battle that was poorly planned battle on poor intelligence. The kind of thinking that large losses were acceptable. Thinking that was old...just like dying Mataloks.
New vessels were needed, and being grown. His implants shifted to look at the growing facilities for the ships that would replace them. The Matawah. A similar size to the Mataloks, though on average about 200 meters smaller. Faster, more nimble, more powerful in some areas, weaker in others. Sometimes extra strength in areas, actually made for a weaker design. The new ships were still some weeks away from being mature. Training and familiarization was already taking place, and had been throughout their growth. New tactics were being taught, developed with the new naval philosophy of surviving, and not direct assaults. Those tactics would always be available, one never wanted to simply let them go, just in case an enemy called a bluff. On the surface below the new fighters that would replace the coralskippers were already mostly grown, and the pilots were becoming familiar with their crafts. The bombers that would provide striking power were also growing alongside the fighters, the Med’uuva and Med’oofta respectively. From the ashes, new life would grow….as it always had...unless the planets were glassed of course.

[ Nebula “Nibs” Enibry | Bridge | Erebus-class Dungeon Ship | Erebus ] Attn: @somebodyWhen she took control of the droid, she had traversed to the bridge and was busy collecting any news and data packs from Varonat over the last few weeks, to begin with. The holonet wasn't exploding with events, but that was to be expected. This was the Troig's hideout, not the centre of activity. She reckoned he'd be paranoid, and cautious. Varonat did not receive a lot of visitors, and he more than likely had monitoring devices to track ships. If Reaper's ship was well known, this could send him to ground, making him that much harder to track.
It was a wonder the Jedi hadn't come for him sooner.
After Reaper gave his response to their plan of approach, something occurred to Nibs, :: Hey big guy, so quick question, how well known is your ship to the general public? Outside of the folks in the Smuggler's Run, would most criminal elements recognize your ship? I ask, because it just hit me, Wikil Yoo's evaded capture all these years, he might be familiar with bounty hunters, Jedi and various other folks who'd be on the look out for him. ::
[ Deni "Red Ripper" Lake | Bridge | Erebus-class Dungeon Ship | Erebus ] Attn: Reaper Deni tilted her head to look at Nibs curiously, or rather, at the droid controlled by the girl, “Maybe next time ask that afore we already jumped outta hyperspace!”
:: I'm sorry! :: said Nibs, :: I'm a slicer, not a bombad bounty hunter! ::

He turned his gaze up from the display and watched as Nibs and Deni squabbled amongst themselves about when it was and was not a good time to ask seemingly critical information. He let out a sigh, knowing that this was going to take a lot of getting used to and a lot of patience to get through It's a good thing I'm not one either... I've built a reputation over years as a criminal, thief, and killer. Nobody would be worried about my arrival even if they dug deep enough. Besides, you saw Deni's reaction: the Erebus is a ghost. Wikil is not getting away that easily, I promise. Get loaded up, we'll take the Shuttle down in thirty minutes
