Eain had hoped that perhaps the warning would be enough to dissuade the First Order from remaining here. But such hope was in vain when Harnan Ren appeared on the video links and his voice came over the comms. His message clear: The First Order was not going to leave without a fight. Thankfully, Eain had already made preparations for this outcome. The barrage of turbolaser and ion cannon fire streaked across the void towards the 8th Fleet and pounded away upon the shields. The vessels shuddered beneath the incoming fire, but their shields held strongWell, we gave them a chance... Concentrate forward batteries upon the Resurgent and fire at will. Inform Commander Gannon to begin weapon charge and fire when ready! Have the Ranger's move to intercept the TIE fighters and launch our starfighters! Get the MPO's to acquire targeting solutions on the Resurgent and fire away! I want the Raider's to remain back. Let's batter her good and see if we can draw out any of her allies... Send an emergency transmission to Talus. Inform the Knights of Karabor that Harnan Ren is here. We may need their help in subduing him or keeping him imprisoned... A series of affirmatives followed as various comms officers set about their business relaying orders down the chains of command. The forward batteries of the MC80 had already been acquiring targeting solutions from the moment the ship arrived and so took only a few moments more before the guns came alive and fired back across the void. The X-wings, R-wings, E-wings, A-wings, and K-wings all launched from their hangar bays. Most of the starfighters moved on intercept paths with the incoming TIE fighters alongside the 8 Ranger-class Gunships, the guns of which came alight with a hail of laser fire tracking the TIE fighters. The K-wings, however, moved to make a run against the Resurgent-class. The MPO-1400's soon acquired targeting solutions on the Resurgent and began firing the first wave of missiles.
Commander Gannon, meanwhile, began the charging process for the fire-linked Plasma-Ion Cannon. The main weapon of the Gannon Cannon could not merely be fired with impunity given the mass amount of damage it could inflict. The charge up countdown began, with Commander Gannon watching with baited breathThere had been little time for any simulations as the teams worked to become as familiar as they could with the systems. The moment they had entered the system, Soraya could see from her place in the cockpit the swirls of hyperspace disappeared. It wouldn't be much longer.
As she went about checking the systems and ensuring everything was good, she heard Nalah's voice behind her. Was it truly different? Training simulations might have been one thing, but engaging with an enemy firing at you to take you down? It all seemed the same to her. Each encounter meant putting your life on the line. The only difference was that this would be a much "busier" fight. It reminded her of what her mother used to say when she was a kid every time she asked. It was the reason for the way she saw it. "Every encounter against an opposing force is the same. Each time you launch comes with chances you'll never come back. The fear is ever-present, no matter the scale of the skirmish. I signed on knowing full well the risks that would come every day and the losses I would possibly face. But with those risks and sacrifices, I am able to do my part to ensure that others don't become the victims of those odds. I am but another piece of the wall meant to protect those that can't fight. To stay strong and fight and live as long as I can, but accept the reality that I may die this day or the next." She then turned her head back to look at her partner, a soft smile upon her face. "No need to worry about me." Nalah had to admit she was pretty impressed with Soraya's response. Not a lot of pilots were as committed to the cause as Soraya seemed to be. But then, not a lot of pilots also had the same... pedigree as Soraya. Being an ace pilot seemed to run in the Reyes familyGood, I'd hate to have to try and fly this thing and drop bombs...She was cut off then as the broadcast from Harnan Ren was picked up and played across the ships comms system. Nalah furrowed her brows at the screen as the message finished playingHarnan Ren... It seems this mission just got that much more interesting. It's not every day you get to take on a Ren...

Soraya never got to say a word before the broadcast came over the comms system. She couldn't help but laugh dryly at the words he spoke. He was quite a cocky one, to be sure. "Seems a bit arrogant, don't you think? Ren or not, by the reports, it's one ship versus the 8th Fleet. A Resurgent may be powerful, but enough capable ships like we have can give it more than enough trouble. Leave it to a Ren to think that highly of himself. Being Force-sensitive isn't going to help him that much."
She then gave a smirk as she looked over her shoulder to Nalah. "Don't you worry. I'll handle the flying this round. You just light them up. If these babies function like the development team claims they do, the First Order won't know what hit them...literally."

When the point defence lasers came online, the X-wings and R-wings quickly moved on interception paths for any shot headed toward the K-wings. Despite their strength, there were only so many K-wings, while the X-wing and R-wing contingents of the fleet took the few shots that would have been devastating. As the TIE fighters turned their attention upon the Coalition forces, the A-wings and E-wings quickly pulled into formations and entered the dogfight. The more nimble fighters and interceptors did their best to keep the TIE fighters away from the K-wings and draw attention to themselves.
The Ranger-class Gunships did their best to fill the space near to them with laser fire, dissuading any TIE fighters from venturing too close to the Eighth Fleet and aiming to take out the boarding craft that had been launched. The MPO-1400's loaded their next salvo's and fired even more missiles toward the Resurgence, trying to use the missiles to intercept as many turbolaser shots as possible. Those that did get through, impacted themselves upon the Gannon Cannon's shields. While they dropped in integrity, the ships shields still held strong as the main cannons were charged.
The Grange kept its fire focused upon the Resurgence, hitting the larger vessel with a barrage of Turbolasers, Ion shots, and Lasers. Eain stood examining the battle field on the holodisplay. The Gannon Cannon would be charged soon, opening the Star Destroyer to a devastating attack run. He examined the readouts from the K-wings, before dismissing their data. There was one other option. It would be a perfect test run, and there was no better way to show their strength, then to fell a Resurgent-classSignal Captain Lendix to deploy the bombers... At once sir!An encrypted comm blast was sent toward the Shadow of Corellia with orders to launch the bombersSoraya never got to say a word before the broadcast came over the comms system. She couldn't help but laugh dryly at the words he spoke. He was quite a cocky one, to be sure. "Seems a bit arrogant, don't you think? Ren or not, by the reports, it's one ship versus the 8th Fleet. She then gave a smirk as she looked over her shoulder to Nalah. "Don't you worry. I'll handle the flying this round. You just light them up. If these babies function like the development team claims they do, the First Order won't know what hit them...literally." Rear-Admiral Erso is a capable commander. Were he not, while we might have the numerical advantage, those numbers would be worth nothing. He may have been an Imperial, but Grand Admiral Thrawn certainly proved that numbers can be supplemented with tactical brilliance... I've seen the Force do some pretty wild things, and it's always a wild card in any engagement regardless of who you are fighting for or against...The comms came alive again, this time ordering all Delta craft to finish preflight checks and launch. Stealth systems were to be activated and all crews were to be ready for the opening to make their run on the Resurgence. Nalah pulled her helmet on and ran through the last of her checksWell, we're about to find out real fast whether the development teams got it right, and just how good of a pilot you are...

Soraya simply laughed as she finished her pre-flight checks and the canopy lowered around them. The time had come to see what these ships could do. Lifting the ship off the ground, she began to move out with the other Deltas as they all began engaging their cloaking devices. Flight paths were inputted and ordered speeds and vectors we set as they began their approach. The battle that ensued before them could make pilots freak considering they were stuck on a particular path and didn't need to deviate from it if possible.
Before the sat the massive ship that was their target. Soraya kept her breaths steady as they grew closer, ready for the order to begin the bombing run.

The Resurgence shook as another salvo of missiles and laser fire managed to breach their defences. The Coalition forces were doing an admirable job of intercepting the fire point defence fire and turbolaser shots that were fired through the void. The boarding parties were struggling to make it through the screen of fire, several of them being consumed in explosions while others managed to pull hard about and avoid similar fates. The battle was turning more and more against them. But Captain John Smith knew that until Harnan Ren gave the order, they would not retreat Shields have fallen to 55% and holding steady for now...
Our TIE's are dropping, there's just one too many of them...
Our boarding parties are reporting losses, they can't get close enough...
Captain, energy readings from the Aggressor indicate it is almost fully charged!
Divert auxiliary power to the shields! Pull our boarding parties back for now. We need the TIE's to work harder than before. If our shields fail, we can't let those K-wings near us! The Aggressor was going to fire it's main cannon, it was an unavoidable eventuality now. All John Smith could do, was prepare the Resurgence to be hit hard. Perhaps with the additional power they'd be able to tank the shot, but the Captain very much doubted that. An Ion-Plasma shot combo was deadly for many vessels smaller than the Resurgent-class. He just hoped it would not be the case here. Shields being brought down and maybe some hull damage. Things that could be fixed so long as the Coalition was not allowed to take advantage of the opening

Eain braced himself against the railing as the Grange's engines were pushed to their limits to intercept as much of the incoming salvo as it could. The shields were diverted to better hold up against where the fire was concentrated, saving the hull from being breached. However, the shields were brought dangerously low by the sacrifice. Something which might have been dangerous in any other situation, but Eain knew what he was doing. The vessels engines kept pushing the Grange clear, just as the Gannon Cannon's main guns finished charging.
Commander Gannon smiled as the targeting systems locked onto the Resurgence and the charging indicator turned greenFor Mon Cala... FIRE!The Aggressor-class Star Destroyer seemed to shudder as the fire linked Ion Cannon and Plasma Cannon fired, one a few moments before the other. The two shots seemed to twist around one another as they crossed the void and impacted the Resurgent-class Battlecruiser. The starfighters of the 8th Fleet pulled away, doing their best to divert the attention of the TIE wings and put some distance between them and the First Order vessel...Soraya simply laughed as she finished her pre-flight checks and the canopy lowered around them. Nalah looked out the front viewport as the massive Battlecruiser sat in the void before them. It was quite imposing and could chew them up and spit them out were it not for the cloaking device that was hiding them. But her attention was soon drawn to a massive spiralling shot that originated from the 6th FleetWell... that's not something you see everyday...As the shot impacted the Resurgent, Nalah knew exactly what was meant to happen next as she turned her attention back to her controls. The bomb bay doors retracted back as she started arming munitionsAlright Soraya, get me a clear shot and we'll drop a little gift into the Imperials lap...

Soraya watched as the spiraling shot emerged from the Assertor and impacted the Resurgent. It was a weapon unlike the typical turbolaser, a weapon of great power. It was unknown if the Ren expected it, though based on the heavy assault in that direction, it could be assumed it was. Luckily, that expectation was anticipated as everything worked to intercept what they could.
The Delta squadron of bombers had been given their orders, to await the attack of the Aggressor, leaving the enemy open to the detestation they had waiting. Their filight path had ensured they were clear of the shot as they approached, and now that it impacted, it was their turn. Soraya altered course slightly to align with the flight path right over the top of the Resurgent, just high enough to remain out of range of the blasts. As the moved over the capital ship, course heading straight for the bridge, Soraya smirked. "Light them up."
The unexpected attack would only leave them crippled for the final assault of K-wings and the salvo of fire from the Coalition’s capital ships. This Ren would learn first hand how quickly they could fall.

John Smith watched in horror as the spiral shot fired from the Aggressor and cross the void and impacted the Resurgent's shields. The Ion blast drained the shields of their power, while the plasma shot impacted the ship's hull and tore a hole in it. Alarm klaxon's sounded throughout the ship as bulkheads slammed shut around the breached portion of the hull. Harnan's gaze snapped out to the space above the hull, sensing a disturbance in the force moments before bombs started to seemingly appear from nowhere. The point defence lasers couldn't target what ever was carrying the bombs and they were too far within the turrets blind spots to shoot all the bombs. more and more of the hull was devastated as the bombs impacted the surface of the Resurgent Retreat, now! Jump us out of here! Anybody not aboard gets left behind!
Yes my lord! Fire up the hyperdrive and get us out of here! The bridge flew into a flurry of activity. Technicians hurriedly entered in co-ordinates for the nearest system while spinning the hyperdrive up. More and more bombs were still dropping and tearing away at the Resurgence even as the crew worked to make their escape. The engines flared to life and pulled the Battlecruiser up and toward the left of its previous position. Harnan did not take his attention away from the Coalition Fleet. He would not soon forget Rear-Admiral Eain Erso.
But soon the dark void of space and the 8th Coalition Fleet disappeared as the white-blue tunnel of hyperspace surrounded the Resurgence, the damaged vessel managing to limp away in one piece. Harnan vowed he would track down Eain Erso one day and make him pay...

Eain watched as the shields were taken offline and the stealth bombers made their run. He'd been about to order follow up attacks and boarding parties, however before he could do so, the Resurgence managed to make a quick escape. Shouts and claps erupted across the bridge as the Coalition struck hard and caught a victory against a Knight of Ren. Pilots comm'ed in with their cheers, even as the starfighters cleaned up the remaining TIE Fighters that had been abandoned by the Ren. Eain couldn't help but smile himself, please with the end result. The Eighth Fleet was bettered and bruised, but they had snatched victory. Those that had sacrificed themselves that day would be remembered.
Eain called the bridge to order and began relaying orders to the various chains of command. The fleet reassembled as the starfighters landed to provide a proper count of those that survived and those that had not. Transports were dispatched to search the battle field for survivors. Meanwhile a comm line was established with the Varonat Government and the Coalition. The Government formerly petitioned to join the Coalition and was acceptedSoraya watched as the spiraling shot emerged from the Assertor and impacted the Resurgent. We actually did it! That was some amazing flying! Amazing work Soraya... Now let's get back to the Shadow!

Despite the shielding and dampeners, Soraya could fill the ship shake a bit from the explosions that erupted across the capital ship as they passed. It was massive in size and despite the power they unleashed, it was able to hang in there and not falter completely. But it was more than enough of a sign that the Coalition wasn't to be messed with. As she pulled up to shoot over the bridge, she saw the movement it made as the squadron pulled away, just in time to see the vessel disappear into hyperspace. They had achieved victory this day. Even with someone like a Knight of Ren leading them, it changed nothing about the ability to lead and the vessel that made up a fleet. Here in space, it was rare that even a Force-user could change the tide to their favor.
A smile slipped across her face though she remained a bit calmer than the captain. It was a victory and the planet was saved, but the enemy escaped. Damaged, but in time, they could return, stronger than before and with a greater understanding of their failures if they were open-minded enough to see them. That meant they would have to remain ever vigilant for the day this Knight of Ren returned to the battlefield.
Taking a breath, she finally spoke after a few moments of silence. "Thanks. That was some good bombing as well. A big target should make it easy to hit, but you nailed those vital points we crossed." With a nod, Soraya followed the plotted course back to the Shadow. As they grew closer, the others began to appear as the cloaks were disengaged and they entered the hangar. It was a moment more before they touched down and the cockpit rose. They had claimed the day and the Coalition had grown from it. Certainly not a bad day.

Location: Anoat Sector - K-18 'Varonat' SystemSpewed forth from the light speed dimension of hyperspace, a blackened war hulk streaked across the star line, rapidly slowing as it entered the system. Though it had arrived somewhat outside the naturally formed gravity well of the planet, the Imperial II-class Star Destroyer 'Covenant of Blood' did not remain idle. Powerful engines fired up and propelled the vessel towards the planet. Turbolaser batteries swiveled in their mounts as targeting algorithms were programmed and locked in. If one looked closely enough at the blighted surface of the black hulled ship, gore crusted impervium spikes could be seen, piercing the frozen corpses of those that had displeased the Great Devourer. Skin fragments hard as rocks shook free and seemed to mist from the cadavers, almost trailing a contrail of decayed flesh behind the destroyer.Inside the weapon of terror, standing upon the unilluminated bridge, was Jerec Cretin. The Dark Apostle stood quietly in the darkness, garbed in a somewhat lordly fashion with an all black uniform of shadow-silk with a long flowing cape of ermine clasped to his shoulders. That was where the difference between the commander of the Famine Lord's fleet and the officers that manned his flagship ended. Like the spiritually sick cultists, Jerec's skin took on a ill pallor, pale to nearly the point of translucency. Blue veins writhed beneath the thin layer of flesh like worms feasting in a full grave, highlighting the corruption of the flesh that followed the corruption of the soul. His eyes were two black orbs, pitiless and hungry, seeming to swallow any light they looked upon. He directed the bridge crew to ignore any communications queries from the planet and to begin targeting outside of major population centers.Several decks below in the open hangar with the fanged maw, the Hungering One's children were loaded into Gamma-class assault shuttles, numbering ten ships in total. Sith cultists joined them, or rather, herded them aboard with electro-shock prods and whips of razor wire. Though they shared Famine's physical appearance, being sharp of claw and black of scale, they lacked any true form of sentience. Warped by the corrupting influence of the malevolent fey from birth, they had become feral things, driven by a constant need to feed their bellies with warm human flesh. It was part of the reason the slave gangs aboard the ship were so thin of number. Dragus' children had been feasting as of late. When the shrieking and salivating barabel sithspawn were boarded and contained in their own compartments, the cultists secured the shuttle hatches and prepared to depart the hangar. Already locked away in their cargo holds were the 'special' items their lord had commanded they bring."Fire." Was the only word spoke by Jerec, though to be fair it was the only word required. The triple barrels of heavy turbolaser cannons began to glow blue as hot gas was converted into boiling plasma that leapt from their tips and streaked towards the surface of the planet. Deadly spears of turbolaser fire lanced towards targets on the planet below, seeking to turn the jungle outside the two major cities to glass and black plains of ash. It wouldn't do to target the cities themselves. It was the population they were here for. Assault shuttles roared out of the hangar, flying through the wafting ozone residue left by the firing cannons, tearing towards the surface of the world like a botflies to a fresh corpse. Armoured pods were ejected from the hull, streaking towards the blast zones in vast waves like locusts. The harvest had begun.

*The LightRunner dropped out of hyperspace and resumed a steady orbit around the planet. Master Selvek stretched out with his senses and was disturbed when he realized this planet had been recently attacked by what echoed through the Force as Dark Siders. In fact, he could sense that the entire native regions down below were infested with Sithspawn. He saw huge billows of smoke rising into the atmosphere and through the Force, he could sense DEATH. Deciding that the planet below was still under siege, he left the cockpit and went into his room to meditate for 5 minutes, trying to see if there was an alternate planet that would suite their needs. Before long, he came to a decision and returned to the cockpit. He altered their course and jumped back into hyperspace, leaving behind chaos and destruction.*
