*Iella could probably answer that one easily, as the teenager didn't look all right at all. As for what was troubling her, that could be anything. With any luck, either herself or Morgan would be able to help, even if just a little.*

*Iella shook her head.*"Oh, I'm good for now. Just getting acquainted with the base and all that."*So they hadn't decided on what they wanted to do. Iella was in pretty much the same boat, though her definition of "play" involved lightsabers and sparring droids when possible. Except she had sparred with Jake already so that wasn't an option.
Speaking of Jake, the more Iella looked at Morgan, the more she thought that the little girl very closely resembled him. It was almost like they were twins or something.
She was about to ask Morgan if she was indeed Jake's sister when a teenage girl quickly walked back with barely a 'hi there' to greet them. Iella's brow furrowed as the girl walked away from them. She seemed like she was upset, though Iella obviously had no clue about what. *"Huh...wonder what that's all about..."

"Pleased to meet you. I'm Iella, and yes I'm very new here."*Now that she had had a minute to get a good look, Iella couldn't help but notice that Morgan seemed to bear an uncanny resemblance to Jake. He had mentioned sparring with his sister, but hadn't mentioned her by name. Or maybe he had and she had forgotten already, which wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility. There was a lot on her mind from recent events after all.*

*Iella had been thinking about finding a little spot to try a little meditation when something bumped into her. Looking down, she saw two little girls there, the one who bumped into her apologizing and the other standing quietly off to the side. It was starting to feel that everywhere she went, there were children there. True, this was only the second time, but still...
She smiled and shook her head.*"No harm done, right?"

*After leaving the training area, Iella had taken to exploring the base a little, and soon she found herself in the gardens. Most enclaves she had visited had these sorts of areas, places where one could go to peacefully commune with the Force. Usually a good bit of meditation helped after a spar, not that her little match with Jake had been that taxing.
She didn't sit down right away, content to wander the garden for a bit and enjoying the tranquility.*

*Iella smiled and nodded.*"No problem."*That was everything she could think to ask. That left the question of what to do next, something she began to ponder as she went to put the training saber away.*"That should be everything. Thanks for the spar, Jake. I'll see you later."*With that, Iella headed for the exit.*

*Practice against different styles, absolutely, it would help him be familiar with various attack and defense patterns, whereas now he was only really familiar with Morgan's. Jake had a feeling that there was more he needed to work on than that, but it was a good starting point at least. When offered to come to her for advice, Jake smiled and nodded.* "Sure! And I won't be hitting any walls, not really good practice..." *His smile became sheepish at his own goofy joke and he blushed a little, reaching up to scratch the back of his head.* *Could Jake get any cuter? Iella wasn't normally one to squee over things that were considered 'cute', but this might just be an exception. Of all the younglings to spar with, she had picked the most adorably awkward one.
She grinned.*"Agreed." *Well that should about wrap that up.*"Well, I think that's everything. Unless you had any more questions?"

*Iella smiled.*"Not really. Just be sure to practice against different styles so you can learn how to defend against them."*Nothing more to it than that, really. There would hopefully be plenty of time for Jake to hone his skills as a duelist but there was no need to press him too hard at this point. At least that's what she thought.
Well actually there was one other thing.*"Oh, and you can always ask me for advice if you feel like you've hit a wall. Er...figuratively speaking."

"Hm, let me think."*Iella could name several things that Jake could have done better, though some of his deficiencies in a fight could simply be chalked up to his age and inexperience. Age, she could no nothing about, but at least she could give him a few pointers.*"Your defense was a little sluggish. When you're in a fight, you need to do a better job of anticipating your opponent's attacks."*She paused for a moment to clear her throat.*"The Force is your ally in that regard. Let it guide your actions."*Pretty generic advice, but it was true.*

*When Iella switched off her saber, signifying the end of the battle, Jake stood there, legs spread, knees bent, shoulders rising and falling as he panted. He held his lightsaber low, still pointing toward his opponent, in case this was some sort of trick, but no, it seemed the fight was over, and she even told him he had been "not bad."
He... hadn't? He was almost certain he'd done... well, not terrible, but there were ways he could have moved better, evaded attacks, perhaps even struck. Then again, he supposed her assessment that he was "not bad" was accurate, but it didn't necessarily mean he was good either. All things considered, though, he supposed it hadn't been a bad experience. Quite the opposite: A duel he'd managed to hold up decently in, with a fairly pretty woman, and he'd even received a small compliment at the end...
... how long had he been standing there? He jumped slightly, quickly switching off his weapon and holding it to the side, blushing a little.* "Th-thanks," *he stammered, not meeting her eyes, trying to compose himself. Oi... he really needed to get better control of himself.* *Iella had been about to ask how long Jake planned to stand there with his saber still out, but he snapped out of it before she could say anything. Well that was probably for the best, as it might have embarrassed the kid even more. He seemed like the type who was easily flustered, or maybe that was owing to the fact that had kind of proposed this spar right out of the blue on him. In any case...
She smiled reassuringly at him.*"No problem." *She sighed and stretched out her arms.*"Well I think I'm done sparring for now. How 'bout you"?"

*And the fight was on. Jake almost gasped as the blow came down towards his head, fearing that his strength was nothing to defend it even as he brought the blade up to intercept the attack. But, as he remembered, she was going easier on him, enforced by the fact that, well, he was able to deflect the attack. Well, good, he was alive. ... of course he'd be alive, they were just training sabers! He needed to relax, and fight back. ... when he was more comfortable. He had to prove he could defend himself competently before he could even try to take the offensive.* *Iella wasn't surprised that her first strike was blocked, as she really hadn't been trying to win in the first attack. Not exactly sound strategy in a real fight, but this wasn't a 'real' fight. Not that spars weren't important...
In any case, Iella figured it was time to see what Jake was really made of...
~~~~~~~~~
Iella stepped back, panting lightly. She hadn't gone as easy on Jake as she had first intended, but the kid had held up fairly well against her, all things considered. Still, it was looking like he might be at the end of his rope now. She switched off her saber.*"Not bad, Jake." *She did have some criticisms, but those could wait for a moment.*
*Jake waited in silent anticipation for Iella's answer, before at last she most graciously placed her saberstaff to her belt and suggested using training sabers. Jake sighed in relief, then stopped and grimaced; that was probably a mistake, a sign of weakness. Ignore it, he urged himself, try not to think about it.
When asked about whether training sabers were just lying around here, Jake nodded, pointing to a cabinet as he explained,* "Yeah! Right in there! Here!" *He turned his palm up and lifted it, opening the cabinet, then faced his palm outward, cupping it, straining his expression somewhat before a training hilt smacked into his palm. At least he was pretty good at that much. The blue beam activated, and he, grinning nervously, held it at the ready before him in a Shii-Cho stance.* "I'm ready! Sorta..." *Bad! Never doubt yourself!* "No, I mean I am ready! For real!" *Iella waited until Jake had retrieved a saber before reaching out to get one herself. She waved the green blade around experimentally, as if testing the weight of the blade. Which actually didn't make any sense since lightsaber blades were weightless. Still, she always got the impression that training sabers were somehow lighter than standard lightsabers.
Personal preferences aside, there was a spar to be had. She couldn't help but smile a little as Jake declared that he was ready. He was using Shii-Cho, not surprising as that's pretty much where everyone started, at least in her experience.*"OK. Here I come!" *Iella stepped forwards and brought her weapon up, then brought it down towards Jake's head. Her full power wasn't behind the swing, but she did want to test him.*
*Jake posed a good question. Normally, Iella would be loathe to use anything but her saberstaff, even if it was just a spar. She could adjust the weapon's energy output to match a training saber so as to not cause grievous injuries during a practice. It was something she did often when sparring with her fellow Jedi.
This case was a little different. Jake was likely far less skilled and experienced that anyone else she had sparred with, and saberstaffs were difficult weapons to fight against if one didn't have much dueling experience. Iella quickly came to the conclusion that it would be best to use one of the available training sabers for now.
She put her weapon back on her belt.*"Training sabers for now, I think. Maybe later, I'll show you what I can do with this."*She pointed to the saberstaff now resting on her belt.*"So, I'm assuming there's some training sabers just laying around here somewhere, right?"
*Iella smiled reassuringly at him.*"Well you'll only get better if you practice. I'd say it's better to practice against a live person than some droid, right?"*She wasn't surprised that Jake didn't have much confidence, though that should be expected of one so young. And she had just met Jake, but Iella got the feeling that fighting didn't come naturally to him. That wasn't necessarily a bad thing.
Still, when push came to shove, one's skills needed to be sharp. Still, it would probably be a good idea to go easy on him.*"I won't go all out, don't worry."
*Take it easy? He supposed he should. Wasn't like he'd interrupted anything, just walked into a training room without realizing someone was in it. Which was absentminded of him though, and he still felt a little embarrassed about that. If this weren't his home, that could've been really bad...
She switched off her saber and approached him, with his eyes lingering on the weapon for a moment. The saberstaff was an intriguing weapon, and he imagined it must've been a lot of work to master it. Not that he was interested in learning how to use one himself, he was only a decent fighter! Still, it was kinda cool. He looked up at her face as she introduced herself. She was kinda pretty— "Stop that!" he thought. "You think everyone's pretty!"
Well, not everyone... Just the girls.
Er, right, introductions.* "I'm Jake!" *he answered, fighting off the cherry hue borne of his embarrassment.* *Iella smiled.*"It's nice to meet you, Jake." *Well now that intros were out of the way, it was time to get back to training. She had been wondering about maybe tuning her skills against one of the training droids, but with Jake here now, it seemed rude to just go back to training solo. She wondered if he'd be up for a quick combat lesson.
Only one way to find out.*"Well, I was going to be training by myself today, but now that you're here, how 'bout you show me what you're made of?" *She held up her hands.*"It'd be just a spar, mind you. What do you say?"
*Iella turned to see that a young boy had entered the room she was in. She had to stifle a giggle as the poor lad bumped against the wall, apparently mortified that he had stumbled into an occupied room. There were probably worse places to stumble in unannounced, but at least she had finished her little routine before he had arrived. That could actually have been dangerous...
In any case, it would probably be best for her to quickly smooth this over.*"Hey kid, take it easy."*She switched off her saber and slowly moved towards him.*"My name's Iella. What's yours?"
*Iella entered the training area, the idea of a more active form of meditation more appealing at this time than simply sitting down under a tree somewhere. That is if there were actually trees on this planet. Honestly, it was a little hard to tell from what little view she had gotten on her way down here and she hadn't yet explored the gardens in the base. That would be later, maybe.
In any case, she found a room that wasn't in use and steadied herself, taking a deep breath and letting the Force surround her. Then she took her lightsaber off of her belt and held it out in front of her. There seemed to be a stigma associated with using double bladed lightsabers as she did, as some Jedi saw them as weapons more suited to those who followed the dark side. Iella had never minded this, and this weapon perfectly suited her preferred fighting style.
Soon the room echoed with the humming of lightsaber blades as Iella began her routine, slowly twirling the twin blades around. Double bladed lightsabers were difficult to control and could be extremely dangerous to the user if one didn't have the training, but if one was watching Iella, she could certainly make it look easy. She began to move faster, incorporating more of Form IV into her 'attacks' against whatever phantom opponents one could conjure up.
A few minutes later, she slowed down and eventually stopped, breathing lightly from her exertions. She hadn't been at this for very long but she did feel a little better now. Now how to step this up a few notches...*
*Iella sighed heavily as she lay back on her bed for a moment, wondering why she continued to torture herself like this. Listening to that recording over and over wasn't going to bring Kaden back, so why was she still hanging onto this? This couldn't be healthy and yet...damn it all, she just couldn't let him go.
A few more moments passed before she finally pulled herself up off the bed, put away the data recorder and dressed herself. She had to do something to get her mind off this and there was somewhere in this base where she could accomplish that...*
*Iella made her way to the room assigned to her and went about unpacking, though there wasn't much. Most Jedi(at least the ones Iella knew) only took what was essential for travel and she was no exception to that. It wasn't long before everything was put away, save for one thing. A data recorder from her last mission, purposely stuffed at the very bottom of her bag, buried underneath the rest of the things she had packed. She hesitated for a moment before slowly reaching in and taking it out. It held nothing but pain, but she hadn't been able to bring herself to just dispose of it, even though there was no reason for her to be holding onto it. Sighing, she set it down on the end table beside the bed and went into the refresher. She had already brought those painful memories to the surface from just a brief mention of it when talking with Taralorn. Now wasn't the time to be reliving every single fateful moment...
A half hour later, Iella emerged from the refresher, a towel wrapped securely around her body. A nice long shower was usually the cure to whatever was on her mind, but that was usually when it came to some dilemma with an assignment or a mechanical problem on her fighter. This was a little different and she still found herself trying desperately to forget about her last mission. The data recorder was still sitting on the end table, and she could almost hear his voice...
Sighing, Iella slowly walked over and picked up the recorder, fumbling with it for a moment before switching it on. It was stupid, but she had to hear his voice again...
Silence at first, but then the sounds of battle, of blaster shots being deflected by a lightsaber. Then the sound of a nearby explosion, followed by more blaster shots.*
::Iella I just saw the shuttle! Did everyone make it out all right?::*Iella closed her eyes upon hearing his voice, barely managing to hold back tears.*
::Everybody's home free! I'm on my way, Kaden just hold on!::
::No rush, Iella, I can handle these guys! Make sure the shuttle gets clear before you come and get me!
*The sounds of blaster shots were becoming fewer and farther between as some time passed. Then another explosion, but this sounded more distant.*
::They got the shuttle! It's been shot down! I've got to get over there, can you hold on a little longer?::
::...don't worry about me. I'll hunker down until you get here!::
*Here, the recording cut out for a moment and there was silence. Kaden had dropped out of contact for just a moment while Iella made her way to the crash site. She had never run so fast in her whole life. She had actually made it to the shuttle, but that was when their attackers came in force.
Kaden's voice sounded over the comm again.*
::Iella, are you there? I've been ambushed! What's your ETA?::
::I need to secure the shuttle! I'll get to you as soon as possible!::
::It's OK, Iella. Just get everyone out of there. I'll find another way out!::
*More blaster shots, more deflections, the heavy footsteps as Kaden made a run for it. Iella could remember fighting desperately, trying to eliminate all hostiles.*
::Iella...there's too many of them, I can't get through...::
::Just hold on! I'll be there as soon as I can!::
::No...forget about me! Make sure that information gets to the Temple! It's our only chance!::
::I'm not going to leave you there!::
::We don't have a choice! Get that data and get out of there! Do whatever you have to do!::
*Iella didn't even try to stop the tears from flowing now as the recorder continued to play.*
::Iella...I'm sorry. I wouldn't ask this of you if we had any other choice.::
*It had taken every last ounce of composure to keep from breaking down in the middle of the fight. She hadn't been able to say anything then.*
::Iella...I love you...but I know you. Don't make me an anchor! Promise me!::
*More blaster shots, then the comm went silent again. Iella remembered screaming into the comm as she felled the last of the enemy, but receiving nothing but silence in turn. The data recorder that Kaden had with him had been the only thing recovered. The tears flowed freely down her face as she sobbed.*
He had a feeling that this woman was very guarded, clever, and good at public relations. It wasn't anything he could put his finger on, but Taralorn had been around people a lot, and considering how old he really was, he figured he knew a thing or two about characteristics and behaviour. But he definitely liked her; she was someone he could work with, and well. Smiling easily, he said in his husky voice, “Happy to help.” Leaning his elbows on the table, he listened to her explain how she was at a crossroads, after a botched assignment to Coruscant. He gave a sympathetic shrug and shook his head, “Just don't beat yourself up to much, all right?” He leaned back and gestured with his hands, “I'm not presuming I know the details or anything, but take it from me: Poodoo happens to the best of us, at one point or another. Now we can either let our failures consume us, or we get up an move on. It may sound callous, but what good are we to anybody, least of all ourselves, if we fall apart, hmm?” Wiping his face with one hand, he studied Iella for a moment, then grinned, “Not gonna ask you too many questions, but if you ever need someone to talk to...” He left it at that, and slid his chair back to get up, “I think a lot of people are here for a fresh start, and it's ideal. There are things happening out there, forces at work within the shadows, and as peacekeepers, I believe we will soon have our work cut out for us. So enjoy the respite, even if you feel keeping still is chafing; we may not have times like these much longer.” Smiling down at her, he put his hand out, “It's been a distinct pleasure making your acquaintance, Iella, I hope we'll work together sometime soon. May the Force be with you.” *Iella was silent while Taralorn talked. He certainly had a lot to say, though thankfully did not ask her more about her past. Time had a way of healing some wounds though, so one day she would share. But not today.
She had to agree with him about the gathering shadow that surely was out there. It was never too long before the dark side reared its ugly head to threaten the universe with something or other.
She smiled and nodded as he got up to leave.*"Yeah. it was nice chatting. May the Force be with you, Taralorn." *Her meal now finished and with Taralorn leaving, Iella decided she had best be on her way as well. After disposing of her tray, she headed out of the dining area.*
