She gave a short nod, it wasn't entirely accurate, but it was close enough.
-Aya More like an economic version of the Mand'alor. I don't have my buir's skill in warfare after all. As for your intel, I might be able to swing something your way. I would have to check with some other people first though.
The issue of Beskar was much more complicated. It took nearly half an hour, with regular questions for clarification for Damocles, to explain it all. She started with the details of the original sale to her father, before jumping ahead to how it transferred to her on his death. Then she went into details about the required terms that had to be upheld to the Mand'alor & the other Aliit'alors, which D'Ordinii had upheld despite the lack of actionable penalties. She spent a good bit of time summarizing how D'Ordinii had dealt with any outsiders that managed to gain access to the metal. Next she delved into the production rates of the mines. The majority went to MandalMotors for secondary sale or other use, but D'Ordinii kept a fair stockpile of its own. This led to a only marginally connected issue about the mining of other ores on planets across the old Mandalorian Empire. Since there hadn't been a Mand'alor in some time, the tithes for the sale price of the ores had been collecting interest in a D'Ordinii owned bank. With nearly fifty years of interest & steady large deposits, the sum was a rather heavy amount. Once back on subject, a few questions from the Mand'alor made it clear he was sounding out regaining control of some beskar. After which Aya summarized the number of untapped veins, inactive mines & active mines that the D'Ordinii owned. She made it clear that buying the untapped veins would be the cheapest, though there were a huge number of mines on the moon that were currently sitting fallow.
-Aya That is about the sum of it. If you are really serious about buying a large number of mines, Concordia would be the best bet. D'Ordinii isn't using it right now. There are already mines opened there, though they will likely need a little work to get them ready for use again. Lastly, I might be able to swing you a bulk rate well below the price we usual set for veins.

Her head tilts ever so slightly back, in the direction of Tahu.
-Aya No official lovers I am afraid.
It would seem that most of the pleasantries would consist of general intel sharing. Of course, that was what most small talk was.
-Aya That is my official title in the Imperium, yes. I am the closest thing to a head of state in the Imperium, but in truth it would be more accurate to call me a glorified accountant. I do occasionally form treaties in the stead of all the various colonies, but only rarely. Mostly they are left to their own devices. It helps to present a unified front.
A small, worn coin had appeared in her hands as she talked & she toyed with it. Mostly walking it across her knuckles.
-Aya It might be a good idea to invest in an intel group of your own. They can be surprisingly helpful.

Aya lounged out on the stone ledge next to him. Tahu, being aware that she was likely casting shade over the meeting retreated a few steps to the side & up a few levels. It would allow her a pretense of being out of the conversation, while still being able to keep watch.
-Aya I will admit to knowing very little about you. Which is fairly rare ground for me. Of course, there have been rumors, but you have done impressively well with keeping things under wraps until you were ready. It speaks highly of you in several regards. Of course, my intel people are already running around like a kicked ant hive now. But it is still too soon for anything solid.
The tilt of her head & tone of voice made it clear she was serious. But that it wasn't a threat, just a simple fact of how the Imperium operated. her next line was obviously teasing though.
-Aya Any secret lovers you want left off the official records?

Aya waved his question off as she headed over toward him, Tahu silently following in her wake.
-Aya Of course not, I was just admiring the work done here. Shall we exchange pleasantries or are you pressed for time?
In truth she didn't mind either choice. Either she would have additional time to admire the work in progress, or she would get a chance to better know the new Mand'alor. Of course, she understood the need to keep things brief when one had a nation to run.

As the last of the banners passed by the balcony, Aya stepped up to the section that would broadcast her image & voice across the stands & across the galaxy. Each section of the stands had a large, high fidelity holoprojector installed at the front, anyone looking down the funeral road would see a double line of her, back to back with herself, facing out toward the crowd. The holograms were extremely realistic & well above life sized, making her every expression clear to see.
-Aya Vode. We are gathered here to morn the passing of my buir. But he was not mine alone. Many of those gathered here today & scattered across the stars too distant to return to this place found our root in him. To some that root is the very code of life that first formed you. To others, it is the pulse of a kindred mind. To others yet it was a hand offered in fellowship to those that had less than nothing. Z'har Dizen Or'dinii was not a common man. But he was in many ways common. He began life so low that not even our own histories name the world. There were others that were stronger, or faster or smarter. Others had greater luck or more beautiful features. What Z'har had above all others though was determination. Over more than a century, he clawed his way from a common laborer to the upper realms of power. Along the way he did many things. Some things to emulate, others best remembered as warnings. In the many years of his life, had made many friends & even more enemies. In the end, not even he was immortal however, as a bomb planted by an assassin was what ended his life.
Along his way he created us, all of us. His family. His legacy. He spend his entire life building us up. He spend his entire strength in making us strong. But it is perilous to spend too long looking within & ignoring the galaxy beyond. While we grow ever more prosperous, all too many of our vode are left in poverty or ruin from the last crusade. It is within our power to lift them up to a higher place. I thus pledge before all the members of Aliit D'Ordinii & before all vode that we shall not rest while their is yet work to be done. To help in that task, I am announcing the formation of the Infinite Imperium. Aliit D'Ordinii shall be its first member. It will be a free associations of clans that seek to encourage the mutual economic & military strength of all vode. The capital of this Imperium will be the world of Lehon. For the time being I will take the title of Imperator. There are some that claim I should seek the helm & claim myself as Mand'alor. The helm is lost. Even if I held it in my hands, I don't seek dominion over the vode, only their improvement. Oya Vode!
With that she steps down from the designated spot. Behind her, a massive roar filled the air. As the last of the honor guard safely entered the Citadel, the deck plates of the courtyard begin to fall away. A trio of Dreadnaughts clawed their way into the air, aiming out toward space. With these ships clear, the Citadel itself fired its massive engines. A roar that nearly split the air with its power, only the shielding effects of the outer wall shielded the spectators. Like a slowly rising spear, the Citadel pushed itself up from the docking cradle buried beneath the ground & up into the air. As it rose, it began to gather speed. Soon it was lost to sight as it passed beyond the reach of the atmosphere & headed toward open space. Once it cleared the orbitals, it would head to Lehon through hyperspace. Left in its wake was the outer wall & an open pit that was nearly two kilometers deep. The majority of the wall would, however, be harvested in the coming months. For now though, all that was left was for the crowds to once again disperse. Of course, this being a mando funeral, the next week or two would mostly be spend getting absolutely, smashingly drunk & partying. Stories would be told, memories shared, & new friendships ignited. It was a time for both Joy & sorrow in equal measure.

Fortunately, there wouldn't be much shuffling around. The royal family would be gathered on a viewing platform that the procession would pass beneath. A very, very heavily shielded platform. The first part of the funeral would be the massive procession. First would be the drone guard, a large display of power in the form of massed drones of each of the types used by the Clan. Next would be the coffin itself. Inside it was the little that they had been able to gather. After that would come the honor guard, a collection of highly decorated officers & representatives from various units & organizations within the clan. Once all that had been done, Aya would give her speech & the funeral would be finished.
The seats provided on the balcony were simple, but comfortable. In truth they were the same seating that had been installed along the massive stands on either side of the procession route for the millions of clan members gathered for the funeral. It was true that some finery was called for to honor the memory of the founder of the clan, but for the most part it was surprisingly underplayed. The route & stands were simple but sturdy enough structures. Some banners & decorative streamers had been hung, but for the most part the display of memory was the gathered masses of mandalorians. Anything that might distract or obscure them had been stripped away.

Aya entered the hall from one of the several entrances. She didn't even have to check the time to know that she was rather early for the planned meeting. She wasn't sure of the exact nature of the meeting with the new Mand'alor, but based on conversations she had overheard, it would likely be on the subject of the Beskar monopoly that her clan had established.

She nods to acknowledge his statement that the slight was not intended. Still, there would be much work to be done in the years ahead. It was clear that he was the Mand'alor, if only because of wide spread support. But that didn't mean that everyone would fawn over him or his plans. That wasn't quite how it worked. On the other hand, he might have some good ideas that would bring the other clans more in line with the Imperium's economic doctrine.

Aya also stood. She would not be a blind follower & she had a piece to say before everyone started congratulating themselves.
-Aya Aliit D'Ordinii does not stand with you. You may have visited many, but my house was not one of those. Nor were any of the houses that stand with mine. Had I not been here on other business I would not be standing here at all. Mando'ad draar digu. Prove yourself manda. Then we will see.
She understood that her seat was until recently on Etti IV, which was a fair distance. Then it had moved even further away to Lehon. But there were colonies right here on Mandalore & many more in the sector. That not a single one was visited by the claimant looked very much like a deliberate insult. Especially with the large range of turn out of other Aliit'alors gathered today.

There was nothing else that was needed. At least for the moment. She did take advantage of a few extra minutes of quiet work before having the group outside sent back in. It gave her time to catch back up with everything before starting the next wave. There was a great deal to do & without a proper support staff in place & trained, it would be too much even for someone like Aya.

Aya did not have much to add at that point. The issue of mines would have to be talked over in much greater detail later, as there were additional details that had to be taken into account. Without wider support from the governors of the various colonies, the amount of material that she could swing in support would be limited to her own, personal holdings. Extensive as that may be, it was a far cry from the wealth the Imperium could bring to bear. Though, to be fair, the vast majority of that wealth was constantly being plowed back into the Imperium to keep everything up & growing.

Aya shook her head in a negative.
-Aya Take him to ride herd with you. Let him see how we operated. Maybe let him make the call in a few of the disputes if you think he is ready.
She wasn't going to warn him about the state of the construction. It was as much a test for him as it would be for the boy. Some of the more interesting disputes however were two crews arguing over the exact borderline between their sections of work, several disputes over resources, & at least three full out brawls over various issues. He had been reported as sick for some time, but many were in fragile emotive states due to his sudden death & the lack of an official cause of death. Rumors that he had been assassinated were running rampant in the temporary landing fields.

Aya also declined the substance. While it wouldn't do anything to her, she did have to keep in mind that she was a role model to a lot of the Imperium. Focusing on the Potential's words, she made a few conclusions. On the plus side, she would not need to kill him right here & now. On the negative side, if she did have to kill him later, he would likely prove annoying.
-Aya Congratulations, I won't kill you as an insult to the title. As for what support you may or may not get from me ... well, we will see. Most Imperium colonies function like independent clans. And that includes all the D'Ordinii colonies. If you want my support, you need to start winning over them.

With a sinking suspicion, Aya did a quick sensor tally of known Aliit'alors or other high ranking lieutenants. The final count was much, much higher than it should be on a given day. In short, Aya was now suspecting that her day off was about to become anything but. Aya could, when she allowed herself to, think very fast. She was also deeply tapped into a massive network of databases, records & sensor webs. She had noticed something was happening on Mandalore, but now all the various pieces clicked into place. If she was right, he would be the first in a large number of years. A number of plans & things she had in motion would have to be altered. On the other hand, he could also be a tremendous boon if properly inclined. She slowed herself back down to normal human thinking speeds before replying.
-Aya You are making a claim.
It was a statement of fact, not a question & her tone made it very clear. It was also obvious what the claim would be. Her head shifted for a moment to indicate the bag at his side. It was the correct size for a helm. If he had found it, he had succeeded where her own scouts had failed. Of course, Aya, like her buir before her, had no interest in taking on the mantle herself. It much more suited her to back someone with the right inclination.
-Aya The real question is what you seek. Blood? Glory? Riches? Or maybe something else...
She was testing him. If he was another Glory seeker like Ashrah, the vode would be better off it she put a blade through his skull right here & now. Of course, he could very easily lie. In truth only time would tell, but there were plenty of ways he could slip up & show his hand too early.

Aya shrugged, there was room enough around the fire & stars above knows she hadn't bothered asking the original occupant. She didn't know the new comer, but he seemed to know her. She was actually a little surprised at that, as her visit hadn't been overtly announced & she wasn't in the usual flamboyant armor she generally wore while on official duty.
-Aya It is an open bar, Vode. Tion'cuy?

Aya had one more diversion before she would bring herself back on track with dealing with the preparations. Non's adopted child.
-Aya I am happy you are joining our family, though I wish you could have met your ba'buir. It must be a bit of a shock having all this suddenly at your fingertips.

Glancing around, Aya spotted someone she knew. Or more accurately, someone that was in the II's databases already. The big feeorin had been looking for information out on Etti IV, apparently he hadn't found it yet. Making her way over to him, Aya settles into one of the chairs by the fire. Meanwhile Tahu stopped at the bar to get both of them drinks.
-Aya Oya vode.
A moment later, Aya's companion reached the chair. Not bothering to sit, Tahu simply leaned against the back of Aya's chair, causing it to creak slightly. Aya quickly snagged the drink lowered to her with a mummer of thanks.

Aya stepped into the bar. The last time she had stepped into the 'baat, she had been a little squirt of a thing still hovering around her Buir's elbow. No he was passed on & she was the alor after him. She was wearing what she considered her social armor, it was powered like most of the armor in Clan D'Ordinii & the Infinite Imperium, but only to the barest degree. There wasn't much in the way of strength enhancement, but you would power walk for days on the small energy coil, then disengage the system & walk back under your own power. It was also unpainted with two exceptions. A red dot had been hand painted just above her left eye & just below the armored ridge that her horns were within. The other exception was the II crested mythosaur icon painted on her back between her shoulder blades. Her consort & bodyguard on the other hand was fitted in a much heavier suit that was painted a molted array of greens. For the moment, she was just here to mingle. Of course, she had several other things to do while on the planet. There were bonds to build with other clans, allies to reassure, mines to formally inspect, defenses to test & oaths to honor.

Aya stands & gives a very shallow bow.
-Aya The honor was all mine, Marshal Marshall. I imagine we may see each other again.
With that the pair quickly made their way back to the shuttle & left the larger craft. The shuttle must have been idling the hyperspace calculations as it jumped nearly immediately on clearing the Acheron's safety zone. The entire process had taken less than an hour from arrival in the system to departure.

Aya nods. She didn't know how much of her claim he would believe, but it was a moot point in either case.
-Aya Yes, we have an accord. I trust your word is enough to bind this. It would be inconvenient for the both of us if copies of paperwork were to find their way into First Order Hands.
She mentally checked the time again. She had a few more minutes, but the longer she stayed the closer she would be cutting her next appearance.
-Aya Where there any other issues your governments wished to bring up while you have me?
