Harnan took a sip of his new drink as Vlusu expressed his eagerness to want to meet Illaria. Well, he had certainly tried to warn the Chiss Indeed they are. And perhaps the Force shall grace you two with a meeting one day... And when that day comes, pray that you do not fall upon the wrong side of her favour... I would hate to lose my drinking companion...

Clusu could read the facial expression of Harnan, and could tell Illaria was not one to be trifled with. He was, however, confident in his ability not to anger her. Vlusu nodded with a slight grin. Indeed. She certainly seems the type to anger easily. Vlusu then moved on to a question that had been nagging at him for some time. “Obviously, you harbor some animosity towards the Emperor for, as you you put it, he ‘screwed your girl’. Tell me, what are your thoughts and opinions of the man?”

Harnan took another sip of his whiskey as the Chiss asked him for his opinion of the Emperor. He stared at the Chiss male for a moment. Wondering just where this conversation was headed with such a line of questioning Personally? I don’t much care for the man. He is as replaceable as the rest of us are.. Especially now that his First Order is asking who will rule afterwards... Why? Hoping to learn something that the others failed to find?

This was a straightforward response, but it didn’t reach the crux of the matter. He could tell that he was evading the question somewhat, no doubt not wanting to say something that could be taken as being treasonous. “When I say that, I mean thoughts on how he leads. Thoughts on his personality. You must know him to a greater degree than I do, all things considered.”

Harnan wasn’t exactly sure how much better he knew Nicademus than most. Yes, he had been amongst the First Order since just before it was formed. But he had spent much of that time since then avoiding Nicademus. The few face to face meetings they’d had in that time had certainly shown more about the man than most would ever learn about their Emperor. But as much as he despised Nicademus, nothing they had ever discussed would be repeated to anyone else In a different time and under different circumstances I might have been more inclined to offer an assessment. But... life is far more complicated these days. For the time being... You have still failed to answer my question. Why are you so interested? My opinion cannot hold that much interest for you...

Vlusu stood up and took a deep breath. He started pacing slowly about the room. “You know, Lord Ren, there are certain... individuals in the First Order who are not placated by the leadership that the Emperor offers. I wanted to see which camp you fell in... now I know. Vlusu knew that Harnan was hiding something. Aside from the fact that he simply stated this, he could read his facial expression. There was obviously something that he wished to say, but he wouldn’t press further. He didn’t want to reveal his plan to the man before he was certain he would be an ally, and not a danger. “As far as asking about the man’s personality, well, I want to see what kinds of decisions the man would make. As to why, well... you’d have to be on Csilla, as the nature of what I would be telling you is restricted only to those needed for the project, and those who I deem trustworthy and are at or above the rank of Moff or an equivalent.” He paused for a moment, sitting back down. “I could, theoretically, invite you to join me for a week or so, in order to view said project.”

Harnan watched Vlusu with interest as the Chiss rose from his seat and started pacing the room. A universal sign of nervousness that even the Chiss were unable to suppress in their biology. He turned around in his chair to better watch the male Chiss as the man spoke about the discontent within the First Order ranks. Harnan was well aware of those dissenting voices. Some belonged to the Imperial Knights, others to the Sith, but many to the upper echelons of command. Neither Baltasar or Azria were all that happy about the marriage their Brother had entered into with Illaria. Others were concerned about a return to an Imperial state, after so many failed Empires before them.
What ever their reasons, Harnan knew many of them would fall in line and do as commanded. Those that dissented would be put down with force. A task that would, rather ironically, be left to Harnan in many situations. While he bore n great love for the First Order, the Master had more than made his position on the matter quite clear. Nicademus and the First Order needed to succeed. At least long enough for Illaria or her children to take the throne and not be contested.
Harnan took another sip from his whiskey, before setting it down upon the bar. He rose from his chair and approached Vlusu. Placing a hand upon the Chiss' shoulder to stop the man from pacing any further Do not mistake my meaning when I say this... But I would have to decline. Not because I do not much care for your kind or any plans to overthrow Nicademus... But because if you showed me, I would be oath bound to stop you. To weed out any that sided with you in this fight... Harnan live on a knifes edge in that regard. On the one side, wanting to tear down the one man he despised. And on the other, ensuring Illaria's safety and wishes were met as best he could. He paused a moment longer, giving the Chiss a chance to process this information That said, what ever we discuss here, will remain between us... Like I said, life is complicated... He returned to the bar and took his seat once more Independence is a lofty goal my friend...

Captain Vermeil walked through the keep dressed from head to toe in his shining, polished suit of crimson armor. For the sake of not being rude, he hadn’t brought any escort with him, as the man he was about to meet was of very great importance. He couldn’t believe he had gotten this assignment. Troops stationed with the Knights of Ren generally tended not to last as long as troops serving under any other group. Which is why he was actually relatively interested in this new posting. He knew he had what was needed to survive, and those who succeeded here often went on to achieve greater things, earning the praise of many in High Command. Not to mention the fave that one Ren had fathered the Emperor’s children and had them married him. The Knights of Ren were an extremely influential group in the First Order. He had orders to report to a “Harnan Ren”. He had no idea what sort of man he was, though the reputation of his WHAP Legion preceded them. Especially their choice of ship art for their landing craft. However, he could overlook this, as the Supreme Commander’s Sister, was, in his rather uncivilized words, extremely hot. Walking through several dimly lit corridors, he eventually arrived at a massive golden door. Assuming this was where he was supposed to go, he was shown in by the two soldiers outside the door. And there, across the tiled floor, flanked by several massive pillars, was Harnan Ren. Stepping forward to the part of the room usually used to speak from, he addressed the man. He liked the look of this Ren, though time would tell if his personality would match his appearance. “Lord Harnan, I requested a transfer to serve as aide-de-camp under one of the Knights of Ren. Captain Vermeil Cannady, reporting for duty.” He bowed before him as a sign of respect, unsure of what the common gesture was amongst this group for showing respect to a superior.

Harnan sat relaxed upon his throne. It had been a rather uneventful day so far, with Imperial officers going about their business. Each had a hundred and one things they had to do to keep the Deep Core running. Each contributing to the timetable that Harnan had laid out for them. Thankfully they were all more than capable of the jobs they had been assigned, leaving Harnan all but undisturbed.
That was, apparently, until the doors to his throne room were thrown open by a red armoured Stormtrooper Captain. Harnan sat up as he watched the newcomer stroll up to the foot of his throne, before taking a bow and introducing himself. A smile crept across his face then, hidden by his black helmet as he studied the Stormtrooper Requested a transfer? Is that so Captain Cannady... Hahaha... Sounds more like some bantha shit cover story. So who did you piss off? Cause no one willingly chooses to be transferred here...

Vermeil bit his lip beneath his crimson helmet. He had been hoping that he wouldn't have to explain this to his new commander, in the interest of not creating an awkward tension, but he did suppose the man had a right to know. Besides, it was not as though he could hold back the information even if he wanted to. He was required to disclose the full truth if a superior officer asked. This man was more perceptive than the idiots he had served under all put together. Clearly, he held himself accountable to a high enough degree that he admitted the flaws of himself and his order. "The truth sir? I made an... inappropriate remark about First Commissar Delvardus." Azria had found out by way of some naval officer. The officer in question was exactly what Captain Cannady would expect. A man with a snivelling, holier-than-thou personality, hoping to earn favor from the First Comissae. Men like that wouldn’t last two seconds in a fight, Cannady reckoned. Had he been under his command, he would have paid him a little visit to set him straight. That didn’t change the fact that most officers frowned on such behaviour, and would generally make the person who made such a comment’s life hell. He hoped that the man that sat before him wouldn't be to angered by this, as he, even behind the armor, looked as though he could rip him to shreds at any moment. Though Cannady was confident that he could hold his own against all opponents, Force Sensitives were a bit too much even for him.

He let out a genuine laugh of amusement as Vermeil explained why he had been transferred here. It was about the kind of level of pettiness he expected it to be. And he knew full well why Azria had sent Vermeil to the Deep Core. It sure as hell had nothing to do with the torture he put her through, nor was it some kind of pay back for it Did you now? Harnan let the question linger in the air for a moment, long enough to let the new Captain wonder if he should respond, or if perhaps Harnan was deciding upon some other potential punitive action Well, they've certainly sent you to the right place to end your career.... Harnan rose up from his throne and made the short trip down off the raised platform that his throne was set upon. He looked down upon the man, due to being almost a half foot taller than the new arrival Tell me Captain, do you know why that is?

Cannady remained still, looking straight at Harnan’s mask, projecting an air of being unfazed by the massive man in front of him. In truth, however, he knew nothing would come of this. Harnan seemed to be amused by the fact that he had made comments about the First Commissar’s... physical appearance. His voice had a certain mechanical degree to it, which, again, would serve well in terrifying Officers, but would do little to scare the Captain. He had stared death in the face more than once, he knew that being afraid would only hasten his death. No, instead he stood firmly, not intimidated. “Sir, if I may be so frank, I know what sort of reputation you and the Knights of Ren carry amongst the Stormtrooper Corps. Particularly about the... survivability rates of your soldiers.” Clearly, the man in front of him valued resolve in his soldiers. Cannady was playing a dangerous game here, as he knew with one hand motion, Harnan Ren could end his career permanently. Clearly, however, the man appreciated someone who would not break in the face of adversity or a terrifying opponent.

Harnan nodded in agreement with Vermeil’s comment. The 1st Legion had the highest casualty statistics of any Legion within the First Order. In fact, it made Pong Krell’s service record look like a model Jedi. Which was generally why anyone that managed to survive here went on to higher commands. The First Order High Command viewing their ability to survive as skill. Though Harnan knew it was just sheer dumb luck Exactly... You’ve not been sent to some regular dark corner of the First Order. Do you know why? Not because our missions are more dangerous than any other command... It’s because I don’t give two shits about any of you. You’re Stormtroopers, trained to serve the First Order. If you fall on the battlefield, then you just get replaced by another nameless little bastard that thinks he has what it takes... Harnan didn’t raise his voice at all. He wasn’t some drill instructor trying to get a rise out of his trainee’s. He was merely preparing the man for the hell he had just entered If you’re lucky, you might make it out of here alive... And just maybe, I might attempt to make sure it happens. If only to spite Azria... Cause she fully expects you to die here...

Cannady couldn’t help but smirk under the helmet. He knew that most stormtroopers dreaded being assigned here. Feared for their life. But he didn’t. As a matter of fact, he was looking forward to the challenge. The First Order’s standard work had not been particularly... stimulating to him. He understood danger better than any of the other children in the First Order. He even felt that the Supreme Commander was too green to be leading an organization like this. Few had expirienced true hardship. Not like him. And apparently, not like Harnan Ren. “I wouldn’t expect anything less from a commander if they were to earn my respect as leader. The weak aren’t fit to even be called slaves.” He had been exposed to a brutal regimen on Kamino, his masters caring little for him. It was a mentality he carried with himself to this day. The weak weren’t fit to serve in his mind, even slaves had more value then those who fell in combat. It was through this crucible by which he had forged his men into an efficient fighting machine.

Harnan stared deep into Vermeil's visor. Weighing up his decision in that moment. With the cloning program on Khomm well underway, they were going to need someone competent in charge of training the new generation of Stormtroopers. And an additional pair of hands would be useful for any future missions the Ren were dispatched to complete. There was only one real way to see if this man would be able to stand the test, and that was to just toss him into the fire Let me be clear... I don't care for your respect. All I need is your obedience, understood? This peace between the First Order and Alliance is shattering, even as we speak. So do you think you're up to the task?

Matching Harnan’s stare, he too looked into Harnan’s visor. Trying to figure out whether he was speaking the truth. He was unsure what sort of assignment he would recieve, hopefully something good. He was unsure what combat the Ren were currently engaged in, but hopefully he was assigned to somehwhere where he could show his skill in full form. Tossing him right into the fire, as some would say. The man before him seemed to be willing to do just that. “I am, Lord Harnan.”

If nothing else, Harnan had to admit he liked Vermeil's attitude. The man was not in the slightest bit phased by the prospect of death. He was ready to prove his worth to the Ren. Whether to gain high accolades later on or not, was not clear. But Vermeil certainly seemed unlike other Stormtroopers he'd met so far.
A notification appeared on his HUD then, reminding him of the upcoming meeting over Taris that Nicademus had ordered in preparation for the attack on Dac. Harnan nodded to Vermeil then, in acknowledgement of the man's readiness. This would be a perfect opportunity to test the newcomers mettle, and find out if he had what it took to survive in the 1st Legion Good... Because where we're going... You'll either live up to your promises, or die trying... Load up and get ready to head out, we're heading for Taris, Captain...

“Yes, my lord. I have a shuttle on standby whenever you are ready to leave.”
Vermeil saluted before he walked out of the room, taking no care to not disturb any of the officers as he walked out. As he did, he pondered why they would be going to Taris. It was a heavily Imperialized system, with people believing in the Empire. Wrongfully so, but the fact was that they would never rebel against the First Order, a testament to their loyalty, if nothing else. He shrugged it off. They’d find out when they got there, and if this was a trap, they could just as easily fight their way out. He made a brief stop at the armory of the tower, cleaned his weapon for the third time that day, took some grenades, much to the chagrin of the quartermaster, who was adamant he go through the proper release procedures. He would have loved to put a blaster shot in the idiot’s forehead right then and there, but there was no point in angering his new boss, as he could probably very easily rip his aorta out. He checked that he had all the necessary equipment before he headed into his new quarters, quickly dumped all of his spare things in a messy pile onto the black floor, promising himself that he’d come back to it later, with little hope that he actually would, before he made his way back to his shuttle to wait for Harnan to be ready to leave.

Harnan gave no return acknowledgement to Vermeil, as the Red Stormtrooper saluted. With the man gone, Harnan merely collected his shield and spear from beside the throne and headed to the shuttle waiting in the hangar bay. He traveled light, keeping only a few necessary items on hand. A couple days worth of supplies were loaded onto the Upsilon-class Command Shuttle, So that the pair would not starve before they arrived to Taris, where they would meet the fleet preparing to attack Dac

The Command shuttle, now having its passengers and the Stormtrooper complement that had come alongside Vermeil, lifted off the ground, looking something like a massive predatory bird as it surged onwards and upwards, headed into orbit. Aboard the ship, Vermeil cast a glance at the keep and the barren, rocky terrain that surrounded it. A few gorilla ATs meandered about in some sort of training exercise, but aside from that, the surface of the world was relatively empty. Then, however, the ship passed through the black clouds that were over the planet’s surface as it headed into orbit...
