*The campaign for the deep core had been some of the most brutal fighting that the First Order had seen in decades and Roland's forces had been in the forefront of it all. The Veers-Class ships that his engineers had developed had done what they were designed for and were instrumental in the Imperial victories that had proceeded the attack on the Ren's Capital, delivering their soldiers to the ground under heavy fire and acting as command centers for the Imperial Army. Unfortunately only three of the ships had been completed before the civil war had erupted. While the Zahn served under the command of its namesake, the Veers and the Jaeger had been pulled out of their special testing duties and loaded up to full capacity with Imperial Soldiers, many of whom were survivors of the resistance on Coruscant. The two ships had been assigned to Roland who'd been promoted in the wake of the recapture of Coruscant. The combination of engineers and elite soldiers had been utilized as an irregular force, with irregular tactics, that had helped spearhead the dive into the deep core.
Prakith was unfortunately a tougher nut to crack than the rest of the Deep Core. Roland's forces had been assigned to occupy the forces stationed at Darth Andeddu's Keep, a location that retained military significance despite no longer being used as the headquarters for the Knights of Ren. The two legion support ships had made it through the fleet battle above with little resistance, shrugging off what little fire was directed at them while the two navies slugged it out. Initially it appeared as if the keep would fall immediately, the TIE squadrons of the two ships easily suppressing what little local airpower was. Unfortunately a base shield of considerable power had been installed before the invasion and neither the ordinance of the bombers or the heavy guns of the big ships themselves were able to crack it. Instead the two ships had landed to encircle the keep and begin a siege. The Jaeger Had taken a position in the foothills in the shadow of the keep and it's mountain range, disgorging it's heavy vehicles and it's less hardened troops on the obvious approach to keep, Colonel Howland Gizzik drawing the attention of the keep's soldiers while the Veers opted for a more unusual approach. The ship's weapons were directed on the terrain itself, at the direction of members of the 3rd Engineers, to further level a nearby plateau, creating a new landing platform overlooking the keep from above opposite the Jaegar below.
Unfortunately despite the positioning of the two ships, the battle had turned to a series of smaller skirmishes as various elements of Roland's forces began to probe the keeps defenses from the ground, attempting to probe the position for any weaknesses that could be exploited. The soldiers deployed from the Veers were a more eclectic sort than was usually found among Imperial Soldiers. Half of the soldiers moving about the battlefield wore the grey and blue modified scoutrooper armor of Roland's original command, the 3rd Engineers. The other half were a collection of soldiers in the armor of just about every type of stormtrooper, unified only by the red painted left arm of each soldier. Given the nickname "Red Arms" by enemies and allies alike the 917th Irregular Regiment was a newly formed unit consisting of Survivors of the Resistance on Coruscant who had followed Roland in resisting the traitor Baltasar. Unfortunately regardless of origin the soldiers were having little luck finding a way past the keeps defenses.*
