Johun looked at Kay'li.
Would you care to join me?

Smiling when Kay'li welcomes me home, I have little opportunity to reply to her exuberant chatter as it flows so swiftly, and so do my best to nod where appropriate and make the occasional noise - a hmm here to denote interest, or an excited, pleased ahh there to convey how welcome her news is when she reports that the Five Brothers are currently enjoying a welcome period of tranquility - and with patting her back when she offers me half of a hug. Nodding with an amused smile when Kay'li excuses herself after appearing to have spotted something tantalizing at the buffet, I return my attention to Johun, answering his question about the crew and officers of the battlegroup Pertinax, "To my knowledge, yes, Pertinax is the sole source of intel at present; though I imagine that the citizens of Foerost and other Deep Core worlds are also likely to be useful in furthering your investigation. I am not sure, however, if the Rear Admiral in command of Pertinax is still on Corellia, so contacting the CDF officers - Admirals Korr and Biancardi - might be a good place to start, as they debriefed the Rear Admiral and would know all he shared with them."
After Kay'li has returned, and Johun asks if she would care to join him on his investigation, I sip my tea, holding the mug in both hands to enjoy its warmth and the scent of the stream curling up from it, and look out a window towards the ornamental gardens outside on the academy grounds to give Kay'li and Johun some degree of privacy as they speak.

*As they entered the dining hall, the first thing Jonasnoticed was how many Jedi there were. There seemed to be more here now then when he was here last. For some reason the thought of being surrounded by so many Jedi suddenly put him on edge. Shaking the feeling, he followed after Hana. The Mirilian seemed oblivious of Jonas's feelings, but was taking in the sights around her. Jonas sat down at a table near the wall, one with a good view of the whole room and every exit. He shook his head no when Hana asked if he was getting something to eat. Shrugging her shoulders, she headed to get food for herself. Jonas sat watching the room for a moment, then his eyes drifted down the the helmet in front of him. The T-shaped visor stared back at him, remeindging him of the life he left behind and the one he lived now. The thought made him feel worlds away from the people sitting in the very room with him. At one point in his life, he could have been one of these people, a Jedi, but he chose a different path. Some how though, that path brought him back to the place he ran from. He chuckled some at the irony before leaning back in his chair and stretching out some while he waited for Hana to return.*

The young woman looked from Johun to Master Roma, and back to Johun, as her smile faded into uncertainty. Her eyebrows narrowed, and she pressed her lips together. "I would be honored to assist you." She replied. "However, I must not think only of myself, or the allure of adventure." Her right hand reached up to straighten the left shoulder of her green Jedi robe. "I returned home today because I thought the Force was calling me back to the academy. Master Roma, are there any other urgent matters which need the intervention of the Jedi here on Corellia?" As a sworn Jedi Watchwoman for the Corellian system, she hated to leave the sector if she could avoid it. But this news of Imperial operations in the Deep Core seemed like a reasonably good excuse, as those operations might well pose a threat to the people of Corellia. With Master Roma's approval, she would make the trip.

Shrugging her shoulders, she headed to get food for herself. Following Hana, Hyatt selects a reddish-orange muja fruit for himself, and tosses it up and down as he asks in an amused tone, "So pet, is your friend just the quiet sort, unsociable, or some complex combination of the two? He doesn't seem, Hyatt observes as he brushes the fruit off on the sleeve of his hooded outer robe, at all to be at ease here. Though, he tilts his head to the side and lifts the fruit towards his mouth, I suppose there might be several reasons for that, mightn't there? Shrugging his broad shoulders as though to dismiss his questions, as much mere talking aloud as asked for answers from Hana as she might know or at least have some suspicions as to the answers, Hyatt leaves it to his fellow Jedi to decide whether or not to pursue the subject, and offers an alternative one in case she elects to leave the questions unanswered by asking after taking a bite of the muja fruit, How long do you think you might be staying with us, pet? Proposing an answer to his own question, as he is often wont to do, Hyatt guesses, Until you've caught the scent again I imagine?"

Setting my mug of tea down in front of me, I frown in thought as I consider Kay'li's question for a moment before answering. After concluding that there are not any outstanding matters on Corellia or elsewhere in the Core Worlds that I believe cannot be addressed by other Jedi, I shake my head and tell Kay'li, "No, Kay'li, there is nothing that I believe would suggest that it was not Ashla that has called you here just as you felt called so that you could accompany Johun on the investigation. Smiling, I reassure Kay'li, We will keep an eye on the Five Brothers while you're away, Kay'li. Lifting my right hand, I muse aloud, Sometimes we best stand watch over those in our care by making sure that we know all that we can of all, I lift my left hand, that transpires elsewhere. Wrapping both hands around my mug of tea, I conclude with a cliche I feel relevant enough to resort to as a closing comment, The simple flap of a banshee bird's wing, after all, may alter the course of the weather for ages to come."

Johun stood.
I'll be in the hangar, if you need to gather anything before we leave.
Johun departed, headed to the hangar.

As she finished the last bite of her muffin, Kay'li smiled faintly at Master Roma's eloquent answer. The green Twi'lek certainly knew how to be poetic sometimes. "Well then, thank you, Master." The Knight replied simply, with a slight bow. "I will go with Knight Starfield, and we will investigate this matter." She knew Serrin was right, as usual. With the Republic coming unraveled at the seams, the Jedi would need to be even more vigilant, and that meant everyone, including Kay'li, would need to expand their horizons.
"See you soon." She said to Johun as he departed, and followed him from the room, heading toward her quarters in the dormitory.

There's other spots to check, a few of which should bring up leads." *A small sad smile graced her features at the thought of Jonas.* "Creel's...slow to trust others. He trained in this academy for several years before leaving to join the Republic army. His squad was one of the best. For years they fought, that took a toll on them both physically and mentally. Then, one day, they went on a mission..but something went wrong. Twenty Republic commandos went in, four came out. One died later that day from injuries. Yesterday another one died fighting the Sith we're after. Now it's just Jonas..and I." *She paused to take a quick glance at Jonas sitting at the table.* "All those people were under his command. He felt responsible for what happened. As for why he feels uneasy here, guilt maybe? Or past memories comming back, it's hard to tell sometime with him."

Eating his muja fruit while listening to Hana explain the possible reasons for Creel's demeanor thusfar, Hyatt nods his understanding after his fellow Jedi has concluded by offering her own theories based on what she has described of her friend's past. "I imagine it must be, the native Corellian agrees, Hopefully, however, he'll find at least some peace here in the coming days. One's journey is far lighter and easier when they aren't carrying their past with them, right pet?"
Nodding his chin towards where Creel is sitting alone, Hyatt asks, "Would your Mr. Creel be more comfortable if I were to sod off and leave the two of you alone, pet? If so, just say the word. There will be other times in the coming days to see if there's not anything we can do to help you in your search I believe."

*Hana let out a low laugh at Hyatts response.* "No, you don't have to leave. I'll just need to get him to relax some, then he'll be less tense." *Her smile faded somewhat.* "His past..it kinda chases him. Sadly, then friends who made his journey lighter are all dying off on him." *Hana sat down at the table and slid a plate of food over to Jonas.* "So, exactly what is our next move Lieutenant?"
*Jonas shook his head at Hanas comment. Sliding the plate closer, he began to eat in silence while thinking.* "Well. Their tracking down Sith artifacts right? I think we need to lay a trap for them. Give them what they want."
*Hana narrowed her eyes in suspicion as she listened to her friend.* "You're not thinking what I think you are? Are you?"
*A ghost of a grin crossed Jonas's face for a moment.* "That I am. We need to gather more Sith artifacts. Enough to catch their attention and desire to come after us. When they do, we strike."
*Hana shook her head in disbelief.* "You are insane Creel. Are you sure that explosion didn't knock a few things loose in that head of yours. Even if we found that many objects, and that's a big if. How exactly are you going to fight them. You didn't exactly win last time. And it's not as if.." *She paused for a moment, not entirely sure if she should continue the statement but knowing that she had to. Her voice lowered some as she continued.* "You can still fight them using the force. How long has it been since you even tried to connect to the force, let alone be able to use it to fight Sith of all things."
*Jonas leaned back in his seat and gave a grunt that almost sounded like a laugh.* "You'd be surprised at what I've been up to over the years, Hana. The force isn't something that you can just turn on or off. Sure, you can suppress it, but it will always be there. I'm not worried about the Sith. I have a reason to fight them now, a reason enough that I might have to fall back into some old habits and training." *Grabbing his helmet off the table, he stood up and stared Hana straight in the eyes.* "They caught me off guard the first time. The lives of my friends clouded my judgment, and it cost me. Not again, and if you need proof, then I'll show you"
*Hana stood up when Jonas did. She was both confused and curious by his sudden change.* "Show me how exactly?"
*Jonas's gaze turned to Hyatt.* "You wouldn't happen to have a training room available to spar in would you?"

Nodding to convey that he has understood what Hana has expressed regarding Creel's aloofness, Hyatt accompanies her back to the table where they join her friend, and listens as the two discuss their potential strategy for tracking down, or more accurately luring their quarry into revealing themselves. Hyatt finds Creel's plan a plausible enough one, the idea of luring the Sith he and Hana are pursuing from the shadows by presenting them with an opportunity to claim artifacts of the variety they have been seeking a simple yet possibly highly effective one, and certainly a good play to make when they have lost the scent as they have.
"Why, of course we would happen to, Hyatt tells Creel jovially when asked if the academy has a space set aside for sparring. Once you've both finished eating, I'll show you the way."
After he has finished his muja fruit and the others have finished their meals, Hyatt, as promised, leads the way to one of the academy's training rooms. . .

Once in the kitchen, Riddick and I find Qochata, the academy's head chef, and ask the Kitonak, who smells always pleasantly of vanilla no matter what he has simmering, baking, stewing, or otherwise cooking, to ask his permission for Riddick to prepare a meal. Qochata, after grumbling in an entirely playful act of being highly offended by the request for a moment, tells Riddick that he is welcome to make himself at home in the kitchens, and is free to use whatever ingredients, utensils, spices, and so on he requires to prepare the meal he has in mind.
After Qochata, having shown Riddick where to find anything he might require, has gone off - far enough, it seems to me, to appear not to be very curious at all about what Riddick means to prepare while still being able to sate any curiosity he might truly have without being too terribly obvious about it - I ask, "Is there anything I can help you with in terms of preparing . . . what it is that you, or we if you prefer, are preparing?"

Riddick's question, intentionally or by happy accident, reminds me of his last visit, which in turn reminds me of what I had, in allowing myself to become distracted and preoccupied with what we have been discussing and what ensuring that I can set in motion what needs to be set in motion expediently and competently enough, forgotten of his culture; fortunately, being so reminded, I am able to avoid any unintentional rudeness, and smile as I say, "Of course, and then arch the ridge of muscle over my right eye as I muse teasingly, though i do worry that our poor head chef, Qochata, will worry that your request to do so denotes some degree of dissatisfaction with his efforts on your behalf when last you were here."
Lifting a hand and waving the comment aside to be sure that my intention to make a joke is not interpreted as anything but, I motion for Riddick to follow as I begin to lead the way to the dining hall's main kitchen . . . "Far from it. I do remember your chef's work being quite commendable. For us Ysanna, and the reason for the request, is that a good meal is not only a matter of individual and communal, survival and bonding. Families eat together, the Ysanna tribes came together over meals, whether to solidify an alliance or celebrate a momentous occasion. In some sense, we, Corellians and Adegan, as our own 'tribes' are coming together. To share one's food and drink is no mere thing among us." Riddick explains as he walks with Serrin to the dining hall. Though Ossus is now a world of plenty, he could not overstate the importance of a meal in spite of the wealth. "Certainly, the banquet we will have when we have gathered the others would be enough to put even the most bacchanal feasts of ages past to shame. I look forward to what we may yet accomplish." Once in the kitchen, Riddick and I find Qochata, the academy's head chef, and ask the Kitonak, who smells always pleasantly of vanilla no matter what he has simmering, baking, stewing, or otherwise cooking, to ask his permission for Riddick to prepare a meal. "I think I have this. I am preparing four course meal that consists of fairly traditional dishes on our world. Poultry phyllo as an appetizer, a seafood gumbo for the first course, then some Tell Agrab chili crabs, with some pepper poundcake for desert." Riddick states as he scopes the pantry and whatnot for ingredients. "And fortunately, you are well enough stocked for me to attempt the meal." Riddick looks up and over to Serrin. "You are not allergic to anything, are you?"

I smile as Riddick describes the feast he envisions taking place once we have successfully gathered the allies we will soon depart to seek, telling him, "I look forward to that banquet, as well as to what we will accomplish."
Not content to standby idly while Riddick prepares the meal, I begin to gather what dishes and utensils will be needed to set the table based on his description of the meal as I shake my head and say, "No, no allergies, and then, recalling the guests present at the last meal Riddick shared with me here at the academy, ask in the spirit of communal bonding that he had spoken of when speaking of his people's customs, Shall I see if Masters Fervse'dra and Saturnia are available to join us once more?"

"Good. Last thing I need is to inadvertently dispose of someone I mean to have along for the ride." Jaecyn says as he gets busy preparing all the dishes. He starts working on the first three dishes simultaneously, as to not have it all drag out more than it should. "You can, if you wish. The portion sizes are relatively large, traditions being what they are. I would be loathe to have food of any quality go bad. Just make sure that they are also able to enjoy food more suited to human consumption without issue."

Chuckling as I nod in agreement to Riddick's comment about inadvertent disposal, I quip, "That would be awkward, would it not? They are both omnivores," I assure Riddick as I take my datapad from its pouch on my belt after Riddick voices no objection to Masters Fervse'dra and Saturnia partaking in the meal he is making, and see after I have done so that I have a message from Atlantis. My left lekku twitching behind my back and curling around the side of my hip, I scan the message from Atlantis briefly, and then send messages to Rakella and Carak to invite them to the meal and then one to Atlantis to inform him that I intend to travel to Umgul as soon as possible in order to provide what assistance I can in their efforts to resolve the situation they face.
Tapping my datapad in the palm of my hand after the messages to Rakella and Carak have been sent, I consciously set my concern for my friends on Umgul aside for now, and then set the device down as I continue to set the a table for the meal. After reading the messages that Carak and Rakella send when the pinging of my datapad alerts me of the incoming messages, I let Riddick know, "Rakella and Carak both say that they are most happy to join us. Arching the thin ridge of muscle over my right eye in amusement, I tell Riddick, Rakella also asks if you need to be reminded about that copy of your repository that you owe her, or if you've brought it at last."

"No... I have not forgotten. We have just reconstructed another set of our books and manuscripts in mulitiple sets... thanks to the First Order... and their failed attempt to wipe such knowledge from existence. Sadly, though... a starfighter has no room to transport the massive amounts of hardcopy that we have, or even all of the software knowledge we have." Riddick juggles preparing the meal as he discusses Rakella's request for a copy of what's in the GJL/O. "It may take a standard week or two to pack the books, but every ship in our fleet, military and civilian has a digital copy of what's in the library. That part, of downloading, will still take a few days, due to the volume of information and that no one but us has multiple complete copies to avoid its destruction... and of course, and differences in technology, such as transfer rates, data encoding, crypto, et cetra." After maybe an hour of preparing, the appetizers are ready and the gumbo is cooling off. The main course is cooking and dessert has already been mixed and is ready for baking. "Now... who's hungry?"

Listening interestedly to Riddck as he explains what providing a copy of the repository would entail, some of which is beyond my level of understanding of the technology involved to fully grasp, I am glad when Rakella, our archivist who possesses a far greater ability to follow along with Riddick's explanation, joins us along with Carak, who has also brought Hyatt and Vayla, two Jedi Knights from the academy; given Riddick's explanation of the meaning of a shared meal in his culture, I imagine he will be pleased that such a number from the academy is present, making the meal a true coming together of "tribes" as he spoke of.
Raising his hand, Hyatt Ashton, a bearded and cheery native Corellian with a muscular build his loose fitting tunic and robes cannot quite conceal, says as he takes a seat at the table, "Speaking only for myself, I'm definitely a bit peckish. It all looks and smells fantastic. My compliments, and thanks, to the chef."
"Hearrrr, hearrr, Carak, a female Bothan with tawny brown fur, chimes in as she takes her seat, And might I add that it is a quite a pleasurrrre to see you again, Rrrriddick."
"It does look lovely indeed, Vaayla, a willowy, young female Togruta recently Knighted says, her bare feet padding on the floor as she walks to the table and takes a seat, We have not met before, she adds as plates and dishes begin to be passed all around, but Serrin speaks quite highly of you, and so it is nice to put a face to the name and tales, as they say."
Rakella, taking her seat and daintily placing a napkin in her lap, asks Riddick, "Are there any other customs of your people regarding dining that we should know about before we begin eating?"

Riddick acknowledges Vaayla with a noticeable nod, and indeed the others, as I gesture for everyone to have a seat and ready themselves for what is, at least by Ysannan standards, a meal just on the smaller side for a group of this size.
"As for other notes on etiquette, not any that I would bore you with currently that would have to be learned by being among us a bit more extensively. Being as far from home as I am, I can be a bit more forgiving, though. There are a couple small points, however. Though we do have the concept of table manners —such as using plates and utensils, trying not to be slovenly with our food, and so forth — ours are comparatively not extensive or burdensome. A good number of our customs and habits stem from our own dark ages, a mere few centuries ago, before we were reintroduced to the galaxy by Luke Skywalker, when we were not a world as plentiful or as unified as we are today. As such, our cultural memory is still replete with the knowledge that our next meal —indeed our next breath— is as uncertain as it is full of life. Also, we are not offended by belching, as others might be. To us, it is a sign that you have enjoyed your meal." Riddick gives a small pause. "On that note, I would certainly hope that you do enjoy this meal." First up was the appetizer, which was the poultry Phyllo (think of roughly domino sized rice wrapped chicken with light seasoning and a slight tangy taste), followed by the seafood gumbo.

Riddick's words about how any given meal or breath, due, no doubt, to the fact that I know that I will be departing from the academy for however long it takes me to complete the tasks ahead of me, strike a chord within me, making me appreciate the simple joys of the meal and the company all the more. The sentiment espoused by Riddick's words is not an unfamiliar one to me, nor an uncomfortable one given my views, taught to me by all those who instructed me on my path to becoming a Jedi though it took me more time, leavened generously by experience, to truly understand and embrace the belief their instruction was meant to instill; and yet I find myself grateful for the reminder all the same for it permits me, if only for a brief time, to set aside all thoughts of the strife and conflict and hardships no doubt awaiting each and every one of us that share the meal.
Intent on fully appreciating the meal and the company, I find myself observing more than joining in the conversation, though I do join in it from time to time, hoping to carry the memories and warmth of the moments we share with me when I venture forth on the tasks Ashla has set out for me; memories such as Hyatt, as irrepressibly cheerful and humorous as ever, jokingly asking Riddick where he and his people stand on the matter of passing flatulence after a meal, or of Vaayla's quiet sense of serenity amidst her more outgoing and boisterous comrades, and of Riddick's patient endurance of the many questions Rakella, ever curious and eager to learn about any subject she is not knowledgeable of, asks of him, and of Carak's subtle efforts to save him from Rakella's relentless curiosity.
After we have finished the gumbo and crabs, I stand and lift a hand to prevent Riddick from attending to the serving of the pound cake for dessert, telling him in a playfully stern voice, "Stay seated please. The very least we can do in exchange for your efforts as chef is serve out the dessert. Would you like any caf or tea . . ."
"Orrrr a pudding wine, perrrhaps?" Carrak interrupts me to add her own suggestion.
Belching with abandon in order to show his appreciation of the meal, Hyatt tells Riddick as a mortified Vaayla covers her face with her hands and shakes her head beside him, "That was bloody fantastic, ol' chap, and then jokes, If you ever consider a career change to the culinary arts, we'd like to go on record as having first dibs on retaining your services."
