Why not go for an IRC channel in a network?
Like alphachat or entropy ?
no cost/no extra code.

We've definitely stuck with the AJAXChat on the old site far longer than I had intended. We'll have to do something about that sooner, rather than later. Have you looked into Chatango? Yes, actually. It looks really good, except that it doesn't meet one of our core requirements, which is that the chat logins be integrated with the board logins in some way. If we end up giving up on that requirement, Chatango is on my short list of 3-4 possible solutions. Why not go for an IRC channel in a network? Like alphachat or entropy ? no cost/no extra code. Same as above -- I don't believe there is a way to (easily) connect IRC authentication to ProBoards. Thanks. I'll get back to you when I have a bit more time that I have right now. |

As excited as I am to have purple is there any way we might be able to get pink as well? Yes. That may be possible. Unfortunately, the rgb (red/blue/green) based color palette that computer screens use doesn't do pink (or orange, for that matter) all that well. But I'll see what I can do. |

Chill, if it helps I made a poll on the old site that asked people what sorts of new colors they wanted for the boards, some of the ones listed made the jump over, others are still not here but if you want reference for what at least some people want to see here it is. I could also make another one with new colors if you'd like. As for my suggestion, I for one still think an up to date list of active Whills and maybe even councilors would be great. Wouldn't take a lot of maintenance and it would give people a good "go to" page when they need some help. |

Hi, I have a more technical suggestion than anything else. I would like to see the site rebuilt. Ah, if only we had unlimited time and resources to devote to this project, just think what we could accomplish ...! It's an excellent suggestion from a technical perspective, but unless you're volunteering to do all the work, or pay someone else to do it, I can't see it happening. Please do PM me if you want to discuss it further, though. Now I'm curious. Can you guys keep me posted about this? I'm interested in hearing your ideas. |

Another possible chatbox could be xat.com/We used that on another site and it always worked well. We never had any issues, crashes or anything of the sort. Just another option |

Considering Ajax is not integrated here, I can't see much a difference between it being on the old site and just putting chatango here. And it will help breath life into the community. You're probably right. The chat situation has to be resolved soon, one way or the other. |

I'm not sure what you mean. The chatbox that ProBoards provides is so slow that it's useless. We already proved that. Any of the other suggestions here were decided by the Whills to be unacceptable because we do not have enough control to moderate them effectively. It's not a question of whether they'll blow the site up. It's a question of whether we can prevent abusive behavior.

Shouldn't be that hard to settle the issue. If you can't give folks mod powers with the chat program, you should still be able to let it known that the selected individuals are, in fact, granted authority in chat. Failure to follow directives will be documented and reported, and the appropriate measures can be taken after the fact. It's a bit more reactionary than you might like, but it's a solution.
