Salis D'aar was the capital city of Bakura, It was located between two rivers on the planet, one being the West River, the other, the East River. The city was laid out in a roughly circular design, with its major streets either concentric circles or spoke boulevards. Salis D'aar's three districts were also concentric circles identified by different-colored streetlights. The inner district was primarily for public building and lit blue-white, the middle district was mostly divided between residential and commercial buildings and lit pale yellow, finaly, the outer circle was reserved for service buildings and light industry and lit deep red. Salis D'aar was the location of the Bakuran Senate, the Bakur Memorial Building, the Bakur Senatorial Academy, Tiarest University, the old headquarters of the Bakur Corporation, the Old Hemei Gardens, the planet's primary spaceport located just south of the city, a massive stadium, and presumably the Bakuran National Symphony.

*There was a darkness behind the Baron's crystal-blue eyes as he gazed out over the Jewel of Bakura from his vantage point in one of the higher towers of the Tiarest University. His face creased slightly with lines of worry as his eyes watched a freighter entering orbit and making its way toward the nearby spaceport. The frown was fleeting, however, and his visage took on its usual look of smugness and feigned joviality once more. That could be any freighter, after all - who was to say what it might contain in its cargo hold. Still...*
*There is an audible click accompanied by a rush of cooler air, the hushed voices of studious sentients, and a damp floral aroma as one of the two large teak doors opens behind Baron Fröst.*
"Oh, excuse me sir...I didn't realize you were still here. If you'd like, I can come back later..."
*The girl was not unattractive for her species - her long, straight, black hair complimenting the crown of horns atop her head quite nicely and her green eyes matching well with the flowing emerald gown that fell to the floor, a slit up the leg just enough to entice while remaining respectable. It was not her attractiveness that the Baron questioned, however.*
*The Baron let the thick, plush curtain fall from his hand as he turned from the cityscape and made his way back behind his desk, his eyes never leaving those of the girl hovering uncertainly at the door.*
"Please, do come and sit a while. I don't believe I've had the pleasure, and you are quite the vision. And...do shut the door."
*The girl's makeup did little to hide the redness of her cheeks which the Baron's unexpected compliment had elicited and, although she was nervous, she could not help but stare at the impressive man before her. She had seen many of his lectures via holovids and listened to a number of his speeches in the packed amphitheatre where the National Symphony was known to play, but never had she been so close to him.*
*As she entered the room completely and made her way to the comfortable-looking armchair situated before the mighty teak desk, the door swinging smoothly shut behind her with another audible click, the Baron seated himself in the large leather chair behind his desk and leaned his signature cane against the varnished wood.*
"I'm so sorry to disturb you...I never thought you'd actually be here and, well..."
*A few short meters separated her from her idol, from a man so charismatic and masked in intrigue that he was not only responsible for a secret fan club filled with gushing female members, but one that boasted chapters in many of the most highly academic institutions in the galaxy. Intelligent women found him irresistible and Vera Mollsto counted herself one of them. Of course she had known he would be there, why else would she have left the gala being held two floors down in her honor...
It was obvious in the way she sat, the way she positioned her legs, and the quickening in her heartrate what the girl before him was here for but the Baron had no time for such trivial passions of the flesh - especially with everything balancing so precariously at such a critical point as this. He would have loved nothing more than to have calmly brought her over to the window, opened the deceptively thick transparisteel, and thrust her out into the abyss but, unfortunately, tact and the tenets he lived by seemed always to dictate otherwise. In lieu of his more sinister choice, he settled for an aged glass of Alderaanian brandy, leaning forward and pouring himself three fingers sans ice before addressing the beautiful, yet naive, young girl before him.*
"Miss Mollsto I've followed your career, as well as those of some of your contemporaries, for quite some time. I must say that I'm quite impressed with your work and, while I'm flattered that you would come to my office and seek such further...knowledge...I must ask, with the utmost respect and admiration, that you return to what I'm sure you know are a room full of indomitable bores and cheap victuals downstairs."
*With feigned discomfort, the Baron rose again from his chair, downed the remainder of his drink, and limped around the ornate desk - cane in hand. Stopping at the armchair where the increasingly-small and embarrassed-looking temporal physicist sat staring down at her delicate hands, he felt a moment of clarity like the one he'd had the night before and staggered back against his desk, knocking a few unimportant artifacts and a rare leather-bound book onto the rug below.*
"Baron! Are you alright?"
*Vera jumped from her seat, her face stricken with shock at the sudden faltering of the man she so adored. The searing pain in his temple that had just afflicted him subsided, the images of the near-future fading quickly along with it, but if what he'd seen was true he wouldn't have time to answer. The Baron grabbed the lithe Zabrak by her arms without a word and ignored the look of bewildered surprise she gave him as he threw both their weight back over his desk and down to the floor, taking cover behind the thick, imperceptibly reinforced desk. The pair hit the floor just in time as the twin doors blew apart sending slivers of deciduous death throughout the office. Through the debris a pair of assassin droids clanked into view, apparently opting to shoot first and ask questions later, and the room was quickly a discothèque of blasterfire.*

it was nearly a week’s journey from the town that i first found on world to the city capital, the accommodations were nice enough, but some how, even in a limousine based motorcade, it still felt like a prisoner transport as i had two very twitchy Smittys with baton based lightsabers in the back with me.
when we finally got to the capital city, I was mostly asleep… it might have been something in my last cider. in any occasion i didn’t feel the vehicle come to a complete stop.
When i awoke from my slumber i was in an hydro-sleeper, that gave me the feeling of falling asleep floating on the surface of a lake. I quite enjoyed waking up when i realized that i was asleep on a king sized sleeper. moving quickly from the sleeper to the ‘fresher, i heard the suite door knock as i locked and disrobed for the shower, trying to ignore it i bathed myself in peppermint falling waters as i cleaned myself off and shocked my senses wide awake. i heard the knocking twice more while i was in the shower, and then as i was getting out, i heard the door being opened to let the guest in. reaching out to try and determine the nature of my guest i found only a suppressed aura that i could not get a fix on. stepping outside i was face to face with the one man i truly was running from, Silas Kryze.
“ Well look who decided to wake up.” “ What are you doing here Kryze?” “ What no, ‘hello’? no, ‘would you like a spot of tea silas’? must you always go directly to business?” “ There are guards most likely standing outside this suite, and they have been very twitchy barely letting me reach for a drink without pointing their clubs at me. clubs, i would like to add look strikingly similar to a lightsaber concept i stored for potential use. and the fact you waltzed in here, yeah i am a bit suspicious.” “ Oh monte monte monte, has it quite occurred to you at all in these weeks that the men here are standing guard to protect you instead of to detain you?” “what are you getting at Silas?” “ The mandalorian holy war is still very much a thing, and you being here in some form of psychosis, puts everyone on this planet in danger. you cannot simply run away from your issues.” “ I am not running away from battle.” “ Then what?” “ Then, let’s talk about your stealing of confidential Starnet data.” “ … if you are concerned about data shared between your precious friends, then i promise you that without a cipher chip, NO ONE can access star net. however, despite the engineer’s best measures, i maintain that you are best served making star net an encryption protocol instead of sticking articles with gum to the underside of holonet pages.” “ that still doesn’t authorize you to sell my ideas without giving me a cut” Silas sat down at the little table set up to be the dining table, sipping a cup of tea and setting the table for breakfast“ Monte, as far as any of the mush brains that you would be earning money off of are concerned, you are dead. however, the patents are filed under your name, and all the royalties go into this account which you can access” he slid an envelope to the second of two covered trays as he uncovered his to reveal a fancy steak quiche splayed with several other fruits and garnishes. enticed to sit down, i uncovered mine to reveal scrambled eggs garnished the best looking Porterhouse Nerf i had ever seen.
“ All happy now?” my salivating nod egged him on. “ now, I cannot fault auric as he did do his job trying to make you see reason. but if you insist on staying here, we must give you some proper authority over this land. so, later today, a tailor will come in and fit you for a new outfit… those robes look simply tattered. and then tomorrow you will be introduced to the president and current grand Vizier, and if they approve of you, you will be elevated to the latter’s position. so be on your best behavior. so long for now Monte” folding his napkin into an intricate origami sun, he stood and in a manner befitting a man who could manipulate governments he should have no control over, raised a flute of what i later consider to be mamosa before leaving me alone once more to prep for a new station.

I sat in my room trying to figure out why i really wanted my path… and the more i thought about it, the more i realized, that i was running away from the jedi and whatever the oncoming storm that i could feel to my bones… for no other reason then because i didn’t trust this council because of some kooky conspiracy that led to the down fall of the base on carida.
Just then the door knocked and in walked in Silas
“Monte, what are you doing? the president has been asking for you for some time… “
“Silas, i can’t do this… i can’t desert the order for orders made by stuffy guys who aren’t even there anymore.”
“… are you certain you are ready to face the consequences?”
“i was man enough to decide on this path, i can be man enough to face the consequences”
“… and crud… i owe Auric 50 creds.”
“So, i never stood a chance?”
“no, but be reasonable. you are out in the wilderness with no one that you could converse with around for lightyears.”
“fine…”
“hey don’t feel down, I got you a late life day gift.”
he handed me a small device that i could recognize as being similar to a certain Dual screened gaming devices, it was meant to be held sideways as if loaded with certain Logographic translation software. but this device was truly beast mode. it was a PDA of sorts, that allowed me to sketch data into the device and produce scale representations, but the device i was holding was “evolved” beyond that. the system had multiple layers of security.
“Thank you Silas, Farewell”
~~~~~
hours later, when my ship was safely in warp, I wrote a quick message to the masters that had a Starnet chip
::Masters,
I apologize fore my selfishness. when I left, i was concerned with having a start away from the politics that led to danger on Carida. and while i see that is unfair to the lot of you, I don’t know how i fit into the order after what has happened in this “Holy war”. as such, i am taking a leave of absence until i can find where i belong. my Starnet beacon will remain active
I am your friend and ashlars servant Diamonte::
Two people wandered through the streets of Salis D’aar under the golden glow of the afternoon sun as it sank toward the western horizon of Bakura. The taller male reached for his companion’s hand and drew it through his near-side arm as they headed lazily in to the center of the city. Nik was wearing his typical outfit with a well-tailored emerald green waistcoat that set of his physique and eyes. Dark auburn hair was a bit ruffled as was also usual for him, to his chagrin. He surreptitiously glanced at the woman on his arm, smiling in approval. He liked looking at her, particularly when she didn’t catch him at it. After her Knighting the two of them had set out traveling to other planets and exploring their Jedi academies, temples, and praxeums. This was not such a trip. For one thing, Bakura was all the way out in ‘Wild Space’ according to the latest star maps. And for another, it was not a “Jedi world” though it remained friendly. He intended this to be a relaxing deviation from the norm for Terra, given all the stress she had recently dealt with.
“Welcome to Salis D’aar, Terra,” he whispered quietly in her ear, guiding them down a side street into a boulevard lined with shady trees. He found the concentric circle pattern of the city to be interesting. The lighting specifically amused him. They had passed through the ‘red-light’ district, in this case denoting industry, and were almost at the edge of the yellow district. He was steering them towards the blue-white inner district, though at a leisurely pace.
The Zeltron Knight smiled to himself, and then inquired, “How do you feel?” he could guess, but he had a plan. And he would make Terra Kiros relax and enjoy herself. She deserved it.
Salis D'aar...so this was the "slight deviation from the flightplan" that Nik had taken for them. Not that Terra was complaining about it, of course. After the events of the last few days with all that had happened, this was a welcome deviation indeed.
So she walked through the streets with Nik at a leisurely pace, gazing around at the various buildings and shops and whatnot. For today, she had eschewed the traditional Jedi apparel in favor of a cream colored tank top with a cropped jacket and pair of jeans that Serrin had bought her on Umgul for her birthday last year. These were the only items of clothing that she owned that weren't Jedi robes and she rarely had the opportunity to wear them. To think it that it had almost been a year since she had gone on that shopping trip with Serrin...the time had just flown by.
She shrugged when Nik asked her how she felt. Her nerves were still frazzled a little by all the chaos in her life, so it was difficult to pin down any emotion in particular. Still, Nik had brought her here to relax and he probably had something in mind for that, so she figured she may as well try to enjoy herself."I'm fine."She smiled a little."So what are we doing first?"
Nik approved of her clothing choice. Highly approved. He would come back to that later, but for now he angled their path towards a line of busy outdoor vendor shops. "Firstly, you have to try this," he selected two ripe nimana fruits and exchanged a couple of credits with the wrinkled shopkeeper before holding one of the bulbous shapes in front of Terra's nose. He deftly ripped back a section of peel so as to expose the delicious interior and handed it to her before biting into his own. Mischievous green eyes watched her closely to see if she liked it.
A few moments later he tossed an empty fruit peel into a recycling bin and licked his fingers. Then, with an overdone flourish he pulled two tickets out of an inside pocket of his vest. "I thought perhaps a bit of music from the Bakuran National Symphony would not be amiss," he winked, "nothing like music for setting a mood," as he pointed to a large conservatory with windows of transparisteel in an intricate webbed pattern that were now glittering golden in the light of the setting sun.
Terra took the fruit from Nik and took a bite. It was quite good, and soon the fruit had been devoured and she tossed the empty peelings into the appropriate receptacle. She smiled at Nik."That was good. What's next?"Now hang on, where had he gotten those tickets? She didn't recall him going anywhere to purchase them, though knowing him, he had probably slipped away when she wasn't looking acquire them. Sneaky...
*Suppressing a giggle, she followed him to the conservatory."Bakuran National Symphony. What kind of music do they play?"Taking one of the tickets from Nik to glance at it for a moment, she noticed something odd."It says here 'Featuring the galactic power metal band Blind Jedi Guardian'. I've never heard of a Jedi starting a band before."It occurred to her after she said that that the name might just be symbolic."Oh...right. They're probably not Jedi..."She blushed a little before handing the ticket back to Nik. "Are we staying somewhere for the night?"
He just smiled enigmatically. After all there was such a thing as the holoweb, and he could play a decent hand of sabacc. There were plenty of people out there who were more than happy to be relieved of various items in a semi-legal fashion. Besides, he was allowed to preserve some mystery.
The blush amused him, and he laced his fingers through hers, gently pulling her a bit closer. "Let's go find out," he chuckled, "probably not actually a Jedi, but if there is one, we'll ignore him for now. You are mine tonight, no wandering off. And I shall devote myself to your enjoyment. Who knows? I might even find a way to make you laugh..."
"Of course," his eyes twinkled, "but, if you are at any point uncomfortable, make that known, Terra Kiros. I will not hold it against you."
They reached the top of the steps leading to the conservatory and Nik headed them towards the closest usher, handing him his ticket before glancing at Terra.
Terra nodded, smiling a little wider."I think I'll be just fine." After handing over their tickets, the two made their way inside to find their seats. Sitting down, Terra cuddled up to Nik as close as the lights dimmed, signaling that the concert was beginning.
The performers slowly took their seats, the band and the orchestra. After the brief polite applause as the conductor took his place at the front of the stage, the music began to play. It seemed like it was just going to be the orchestra but then the band started to play a sound that Terra hadn't heard before. It was definitely music but it was...different. Yet the orchestra was playing alongside the band. She was...actually kind of liking it.
She squeezed Nik's hand."I like this music!" Her voice was barely audible over the noise, but the message was clear enough. Terra was, for the moment, managing to enjoy herself so that had to be a plus.
The concert continued on, the orchestra playing everything from classical composers to modern artists and a contemporary cover of a song by the Twisted Rancor Trio, a band that had apparently existed briefly over 4,000 years ago. The concert ended on one last song with both the orchestra and Blind Jedi Guardian, and that was the finale.
Terra walked hand in hand with Nik outside the conservatory, then looked over at him with a grin."OK, so where to next?"
Of course as soon as Terra slid closer to him Nik put his arm around her shoulders. He wasn't sure what to expect precisely as he leafed through the program with Terra watching. However, he put it away quickly and did something he preferred to reading, namely, enjoyed the way his companion's head was resting on his shoulder like it belonged there. The Zeltron approved. As the music played on, he applauded when appropriate and smiled to himself as he felt her starting to relax. The tensions of Coruscant melted away from her. He was right. A change of scene was precisely what she had needed.
He leaned closer to her as she attempted to tell him something, but her shout that would normally have deafened him at that proximity to his ear registered barely as conveying the fact that she liked the music. Good. He'd gambled that something housed in such a building and dignified with the moniker "Bakuran National Symphony" would be a good event. Nik was glad that his luck held true for now.
"Are you always this curious?" he inquired as he slipped his fingers through hers and ran his thumb over the outside of her opposite digit. He headed down the wide steps bending out from the other side of the conservatory and leading down towards a large lake.
Reaching the bottom of the stairs he headed out along a narrow pier and exchanged a few words with a stolid looking individual next to what looked like an old fashioned boat. The difference in this case being that it was made of a lighter artificial material shaped into a swan's head at the bow with detailed wings sweeping back aft.
He let go of Terra's hand and gingerly stepped down into the boat, bracing himself against the feeling of unsolid ground shifting under his feet. Bending his legs a bit to lower his center of gravity, he looked up at Terra with a roguish smile and ran a hand through auburn hair that had become tousled by the evening breeze. It really didn't help matters. But he offered her his hand to help her down into the boat, "Come with me and find out, Terra Kiros."
Terra smiled as she followed Nik hand in hand down the steps, giggling softly at his question. She was indeed quite curious about his plans for this date, but as tow whether she was always like this? Well...oh right. He was likely just teasing her. "Maybe..."She giggled again as they walked away from the conservatory and out onto a narrow pier. She waited while he chatted with the owner and soon he had procured a boat, an old fashioned one at that.
Her eyes twinkled a little at the prospect of a trip out onto the lake, just the two of them. With a smile, she reached over and grasped his hand and climbed into the boat with him. Sitting down, she looked over the waters of the lake and sighed."It's so peaceful out here..."
"I guess I'll find out then," he replied calmly, "was that a challenge?" A mischievous light glinted in his eyes in the moonlight as he rowed them further out into the lake. Sure, it was quaint, but sometimes the old-fashioned ways were more interesting.
Eventually, he secured the oars and gingerly moved closer to Terra. "Aye, it is, at least on the surface. There's a whole different ecosystem busy with its life just out of sight. But for now...it is peaceful."
"How does it feel to be a Knight, finally?" he whispered, appreciating the moment. He reached over and brushed her hair back behind her ear, then ran the backs of his fingers gently down her cheek. "Are you cold?"
How did it feel to be a Knight? Terra hadn't been a Knight for long enough to really answer that question. It was so hard to imagine coming so far in what seemed like such a short amount of time, especially when one considered that she had started out as a former slave without even the ability to read. She had learned so much and grown up a lot over the almost two years she had been on Corellia.
She sighed heavily."I don't know yet. Everything feels like it's happened so fast."She leaned against Nik and closed her eyes."One minute I was just an escaped slave...and now I'm a Jedi Knight..."
"And you are always so much more than that, Terra Kiros," he whispered as he pulled her closer to himself. The gentle rocking motion of the boat on the lake as the wind picked up was more than enough to lull one to sleep, but he wasn't that unwary. Besides, sleeping in a small boat would leave one with horrible cramps, provided of course that one woke up. There was always the danger of being capsized in a squall to keep things interesting. Also, it would get cold in the night.
For now though, he occupied himself in kissing her properly since she did not seem like she would be offended by such an action. Besides, he'd behaved and refrained from so doing for a long time.
Eventually, he pulled away and gazed at her for a long moment, running his hand through her hair and admiring its softness before, slipping back to his seat and resuming the oars."Look," he pointed to a stream-lined edifice built on the edge of the lake and blazing with light in contrast to the darkness. Despite the modern appearance of the building on the outside, the light was warm. "That's where we're headed." He kept his ears open in she voiced a complaint, and he was aware enough of her feelings to know if she was unhappy.
With a gentle bump at the side of a stepped terrace lit with real candles in hurricane globes, he tied up the boat and stepped ashore. Then, he tugged his green vest straight and held out his hand to help her ashore.
Terra smiled a little, about to ask what Nik thought she was, but then he started to kiss her and that ended her train of thought rather abruptly. Of course, it was a rather welcome distraction from all the chaos that had been going on lately and she gladly kissed him back. Come to think of it, they hadn't had much opportunity to do this since their first date on Coruscant, which felt like such a long time ago. Then again, time flew faster when one was having fun...
She sighed happily as he pulled away, her earlier trials nearly forgotten now as Nik slowly rowed them to their destination, and she gazed over the candlelit terrace.
Smiling, she stood and allowed Nik to help her off of the boat and she slipped her hand into his, squeezing it gently."Lead on."In truth, she couldn't wait to see what he had in store next. So far, every surprise had been a pleasant one...
Nik was highly pleased by Terra's evident happiness with the evening. She was always worth looking at, but especially so right now. The way the moonlight glistened in the depths of her eyes was completely distracting to a degree that almost before she'd regained her feet, he had seized the moment and kissed her again.
And then, because his plans did not include staying out here on the lakeside all evening, he wrapped an arm around her shoulders and gestured toward a wide glass door that slid open soundlessly in front of them.
A gentle babble of voices hovered in the air as they moved down a wide corridor. Nik directed her attention to the odd lighting in a large dining room.The lighting was warm in nature, but suspended globes made one feel like one was hovering in the midst of the galaxy. Nik whispered quietly, "This place has so many different rooms depending on what its clientele prefers. I suppose it's like taking slices out of different cultures and places and combining them into one giant whole." He smiled at his companion and turned down towards a brightly polished lift door. He pressed the button for "Up" and waited. A few seconds later, a chime presaged the opening of the door and he waved Terra in first, following behind and selecting a floor level.
The Zeltron leaned against the edge of the doorframe as they were whisked upwards. "Credit for your thoughts?" he asked with a wink and a smile.
Terra was a little surprised when Nik kissed her right as she was getting off the boat, but she certainly wasn't going to complain about it. Blushing a little from the fact that he was kissing her in such a public place, she followed him into the building, gazing at the unique lighting. According to Nik, this place drew from all sorts of cultures, and she wondered which ones the designs had come from.
She smiled a little and shrugged when he asked her what was on her mind."Not much on my mind right now. I'm glad I'm here though."
"Not much, hmm?" he responded with a grin. This was good, in one way, less good in another, but he could work with it."Oh, scuse us," the Zeltron interjected with a wink as they rounded a corner and came upon an interesting scenario involving what appeared to be one of the footmen and an assistant bartender. He wrapped a protectively possessive arm around Terra, and scooped her into the leftmost of three lifts since its doors opened first and it was unoccupied.
A short ride upward and the doors opened with a quiet chime. Nik and Terra stepped out into a hallway that was fairly quiet since probably only half of the rooms were currently occupied--good thing about booking a stay during the off-season. He entered the keycode into an access pad beside a door labeled #417. When the door opened smoothly, he scooped Terra up in his arms thinking she felt a bit light, and carried her inside. He set her down gently on a comfortable bed and kissed her thoroughly before stepping away for a second to look around. Just because he did not think there would be trouble was no reason to invite it. A quick sweep revealed no bugs or listening devices, and he paused near the door to simply admire the slim young woman he'd been spending some quality time with. Realizing that he was staring, his pinkish skin flushed a tone or two deeper, nearly matching his fiery auburn hair and set off even more starkly due to the emerald green of his long vest. "Well, what do you think now?" he inquired lightly, not really hiding the momentary hint of uncertainty that he felt. Terra was hard to read sometimes. He'd chosen this specific room in order to surround her with comfortable warm softness in contrast to the spartan furnishing that most Jedi dealt with on a regular basis.
Terra averted her eyes from the couple they passed on the way to the room, wondering what could possess to guys to make out like that when they were supposedly still on the clock. Did they really have to be doing that in public? She continued to follow Nik and pretended that she didn't see anything, Nik probably doing the same.
She giggled softly as he hoisted her up into his arms, carrying her into the room and she didn't have much time to survey the place before he had set her down on the bed and was kissing her. Still giggling helplessly, she lay back on the bed while Nik took a look around the room, and she sat up after a little bit, just in time to notice that he was staring at her. Giggling again, she flopped back down on the bed when he asked her what she thought, and this time, it didn't take Terra long to answer."This is great! I can't believe you went to all this trouble to book a room here!"Grinning, she sat back up."I love it!"It had been a long time since Terra had been excited about a vacation like this, not since her last getaway with Serrin. It felt great to be here with Nik, especially after having endured so much stress lately.
This vacation was certainly much needed...
