Sidara raised her glass as her heart ached at the mention of Corr. Their union had been so short and now she was left to be in charge of this clan. The pressure of filling his boots was almost suffocating.
"Enough!" Sid chastised herself in her head, "You cannot let the loss of your husband turn you into a blubbering mess of a Mandalorian. Get your act together, Sidara! You have to lead now. You have no choice but to do it and do it well. You cannot let Corr down. He would be so ashamed if you were less than a strong leader of the clan. You know this to be true. Quit your crying. Your mourning period is over."
Sidara tipped her drink back and drained her glass and set her shoulders back. It was time to move on. "Ni kar'taylir darasuum gar, Corr'ika" she whispered to herself.

*The male newcomer had chosen to sit beside Ka'ra, so she scooted a little closer towards the wall to make more room. The extended tables were soon filled by the rest of the members of Clan Vhett who'd arrived with them. Food. Food was good... And Ka'ra couldn't help but take a little more for herself. The tihaar... best if she waited.
Or perhaps not... Cathaoir was calling a toast, looking forward to the future, and the stranger beside her joined in, drinking to the memory of one named Corr. Ka'ra raised her own glass, and...* "Kriff it," *she muttered again, this time with a smirk, downing the rest of the glass, then shook her head against the effects. Seeing as she was a Mando'ad, she'd get used to it eventually, but as for now, well, chugging wasn't a good idea.
Figuring she needed to stop being a stranger, she turned to the man next to her and said,* "Su'cuy! Ner gai Ka'ra!"

Mereel turned and smiled at the source of the voice speaking glorious Mando'a besides him, inclining his head in a solemn bow of formality before alowing the grin to once again spring to his features.
"Su cuy'gar ogir, Ka'ra. Ner gai Mereel."
He switched his drink to his left hand and held out his right to her, all serious formality again though his lip twitched in amusement.
She couldn't have been more than nine years old but was every bit the Mandalorian child, with armour and weaponry evident despite her small frame. Her chestnut hair fell down in a wavy mass over her armoured shoulders and she seemed to contain and ease and confidence despite being surrounded by her elders. So like the Vhett spawn, he thought wryly as he tried to hold his mock seriousness a while longer.

The revelry was in full swing now. Cathaoir sat on one side of the table directly across from Mereel who had Sidara on his right and Ka'ra on his left. Tireya had taken a seat on Cathaoir's left, leaving the chair on his right empty for now. Various members of clan Vhett and Clan Ordo alike found their seats in due time, where eventually the grizzled Mandalorian vet, Sammael found a seat in the chair next to Cathaoir.
He [Sammael] already had a large stein of some kind of beer in hand, a froth around his lips served as evidence he'd already taken to indulging himself in the cup's contents. He never said anything - which wasn't typical of the man - raised his arm, mug in hand, at the end of both Cathaoir's and Mereel's toasts, slamming it down to the hard surface of the table each time he lowered his arm, sending the liquid contents within sloshing outwards and onto the table.
Cathaoir dug into the grub now, piling his plate his and topping off his stein once more from an opened bottle of tihaar.

*This guy sure changed expressions a lot didn't he? She wasn't entirely sure why her mind had singled out that detail, but he went from smile, to solemn nod, to smile, to a perhaps falsely serious expression, all as he introduced himself as Mereel and offered a handshake. She took it and offered her strongest grip, which may have been only slightly looser than it normally would have been.* "Gar gotal'ur birov troane, vod,"1 *she commented, blinking rapidly. She glanced around, seeming somewhat unfocused... then ate some more of her potatoes.*
1You make many faces, mate.

He shook her hand with exaggerrated formality and a firm grip. He had a brief worry that his own calloused hand would hurt hers but quickly dismissed the idea. She was Mando'ad despite her youth and he was pleased to find her grip firm and sure. With barely restrained eagerness Mereel turned to begin the act of heaping food onto his plate Mereel but stopped suddenly at her words, a nerf steak precariously poised on the end of a three-pronged skewer. His head turned to offer her a wide-eyed look that was comical in the extreme, yet another face for her to catalogue as his.
After a couple of second of holding the look he let loose a roar of laughter at her joke, though he was aware that the comment may have been made in earnest rather than jest. Drawing the steak to his plate he allowed his laughter to die down into a rumbling chuckle as he continued the acquisition of food.
"Ibac teh haat, ad'ika?"
He spared the time from gathering drumsticks to flash her another smile.
"Ret ni liser borarir bat ibac, nayc?"

Sidara waited for a moment and sat forward, looking at Cathaoir.
I need to ask, are you still happy to proceed with our joint venture? The passing of my husband has left me in charge of getting my house in order. Before he passed I didn't necessarily concern myself with the details of what we were doing, only to support Corr, really. Now I am finding that I need to be more aware of whats going on with the other clans so that I can attempt to lead as he did. So if you will oblige me and fill me in on any previous arrangements you two had...?

Cathaoir's attention immediately shifted from the happenings of the crowd to the words coming from Sidara's mouth when he she spoke of her husband's "death." He questioned whether she was joking in his mind several times over in but a moment, but simply denying the legitimacy behind what words he thought he might have just heard. Corr? Dead? This was preposterous and to think that his own wife was saying it too.
His fist clinched tightly under the table as he fought back the anger behind hearing what he had. He was successful, but only barely. Corr had been a trusted friend to Cathaoir and above all else a fierce warrior. Sure he was getting older now, but even then, the were clearly still years left in him. How? How could he be dead? What kind of terrible joke is this? Question after question flooded his mind, overwhelming him in manner he wouldn't be able to catch anything she had spoken of after speaking of Corr's death. "Slow down," he said sternly. "Go back a second would you?"
Cathaoir paused for a moment, wiping a hand across his scruffy face. "I'm not sure I heard you right there because it sounded like you said Corr was dead." He shook his head sharply, trying to shake certain malevolent thoughts from his mind. It worked . . . somewhat. "Tell me you're joking."

Sidara's brows furrowed. "First, I would never joke about the death of my husband. Second, I thought you knew. We haven't found his body to verify that he has left us, but all the circumstances point to his untimely death. I haven't heard from him in quite some time... the last time just after we married. "
She sighed and pulled out a cigarette. "My apologies Cathaoir, I shouldn't have so abruptly announced it. I had no idea that you didn't know." She took a drag and exhaled slowly. "So, that leaves me to head this clan... and to carry on what Corr had started."

*The woman, Sidara, was engaging in conversation with Cathaoir. Ka'ra wanted to listen in, but her attention was already stolen by Mereel... that, and she didn't have the capacity to focus on multiple things at once for the moment. Mereel seemed to be proving her point about making many faces, at least, before he laughed uproariously, something that caused her to jump. Why was she jumpy right now? Then he commented that perhaps he could work on that, and she tilted her head.* "Me'ven?"1 *she inquired with a bit of a mild slur, subconsciously reaching for the nearest bottle of tihaar to refill her glass...*
1How?

He was just biting into the leg of some cooked animal when her question came, eyes flickering from Cath to Sid as they engaged in conversation. He tore the flesh off the bone and sucked it noisily into his mouth before turning to look at Ka'ra once more, smiling around a chewing mouthful. Dropping the bone on his plate and glancing around for a moment he suddenly seized Sidara's helmet, his having been left in the quarters they were assigned. Slipping it over his head as he swallowed the meat he turned back to her and opened his arms in a 'ta'da' kind of pose.
Me'vare ibac!?
He doubted anyone could accuse him of having varied expression now...

"No. It is me who should apologize." Cathaoir spoke in a tone that had qualities of both sympathy and apology. In a matter of speaking, he could probably have been empathetic as well having lost his own wife and child years before. His fist unclenched under the table and his expression took to a rather softer one now as well. Truth be told, he hadn't known before that moment that he had felt such a strong family like tie to the man that was now presumed dead. Sure . . . he was a good man and a friend, but this tie was more of a brotherly one which was strange in itself as he'd never really spent an overabundance of time with the man either.
Now Corr was dead. Or at least he'd been told that and the evidence gathered already presented a strong case for it being that. However, it didn't mean that he had to believe it, much less accept it. Deep down he had a feeling and it scared the shit out of him. There was just this nagging in his subconscious like something calling to him. Talking to him and telling him something. Something he simply couldn't and wouldn't understand just yet. Maybe it was just instinct but it was that question of what if it wasn't that scared him shitless.
He turned his attention from it as swiftly as he could and back to Sidara in front of him. "As for what I and Corr had between our clans before; there is not much to say. Our clans have long been close and have seen similarly on virtually every topic." Cathaoir paused a moment, as he remembered the one particular topic the viewed very differently on. It wasn't his place as a Chieftain to influence the ways of another clan, especially one who'd been headed by a person so close to him. "Well . . . all but one. There is no reason to discuss that one though as my voice should carry no meaning and no weight among you and your clan.
I am not one good with selecting the right words to say, but more of being straight forward and to the point. There is no need to butter things up and try to flatter. We are vode and it is as simple as that. So, for what was between us in the past; it can be simply said one was just an extension of the other. Yes we were allies, but we were also family and abated the Resol'nare. If you can continue to do that, then you will be carrying on your Husband's legacy who I see in you right now."

Sidara nodded as she listened to him, absentmindedly flicking the ashes from her cigarette into the ashtray in front of her. She refilled her glass and took a sip.
I appreciate bluntness. If we are honest, I am the same way. I don't have time for sugar coating anything. Just say it like it is. I like to know where I stand. I see no issue with carrying on exactly the same way as my husband. If that is what he wanted, that is what he shall have. Now the issue that you are neglecting to discuss, why do you think your voice will carry no weight? Nevermind for now. We will talk about that later. For now, we shall enjoy this time, and drink to our continued relationship.
Sidara raised her glass toward Cathaoir and tipped it slightly then took another drink. Corr would have wanted it this way. She smiled to herself to think of him... a bittersweet feeling fell over her. She would do all she could to make him proud.

*Mereel wasn't done making faces... then, suddenly, he took a helmet that didn't match his armor and pulled it over his head, gesturing as though it were an impressive act, before asking how that was. Ka'ra gave a laugh that started like a cough as she poured herself some more tihaar, then held up the glass emphatically.* "Jii gar nu pirur tihaar!"1 *she declared, certain that would get him to remove the helmet...*
1Now you can't drink tihaar!

"Indeed." Cathaoir raised his stein and nodded in agreement as Sidara spoke once more. Immediately following, he drained the fiery liquid from it and began refilling it again.
He reached forth with a utensil and picked a slab of meat from a tray in front of him and put it onto his plate then began scooping various other bits of food onto his plate in a rather unorganized fashion. Gazing across the table as he did so, he looked at Ka'ra and smiled warmly. She certainly wasn't having any trouble making friends today as she conversed with Mereel. On his right side, Sammael still had not spoken though he had piled his plate high with food that he was digging into.
Cathaoir put a playful jab into the vet's side, trying to get him to brighten up a bit, but Sammael was a very poor sport when it came to losing, especially when losing to Conall, Cathaoir's headstrong nephew. "Lighten up, Sammael. Hate for the Vhetts to have this be how they form their views of ya'."

Pulling the helmet off of his head Mereel allowed it to thunk onto the table besides his plate as he set it down, hand absently resting on top of the curved dome. If one were to look up 'dumbfounded' in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy they would see an image of Mereel as he looked now; jaw hanging loose, a nonplussed look in his grey-blue eyes.
The child showed a wit and appreciation of humour that was far beyond her years, even for a Mandalorian youngling, and Mereel found her blasè one-liners greatly amusing. His look of shocked paralysis was only half-imitated as he marvelled at the jibe, finding it a fair assessment of the situation. The thought crossed his mind that perhaps it wasn't a clever quip but was actually a serious statement founded with impeccable logic. Such a thought made it even more amusing.
Giving voice to said amusement he let out a raucous guffaw, slamming his hand down on the table next to Sidara's helmet, causing the buy'ce to bounce and roll onto its top, curling around for a moment upside down before finding its way off the edge of the table.
"Pirusti johayc, ad'ika..."
He seized his own tankard and held it up before clanging it against her own vessel with forceful glee, sloshing liquid over both their hands before throwing the Tihaar down his throat.
He peered across the table at Tireya, a look of mocking intent on his face.
"Ni vercopa ba'slanar gar par ibic solus tion'tuur kaysh olaror be ruug'la."

Sidara heard her helmet hit the floor and looked over at Mereel who was wearing a goofy grin on his face.
Mereel? Is everything ok? She asked as she bent to pick it up, setting it next to her. She set her forearm on it and let it rest on top of it. She never used to even wear the damn thing, but Corr insisted that she made it a habit. Maybe the tihaar has gone to your head?
She smiled as she remembered the first time she had seen Corr in the same condition. It was early in their relationship... he paid for it the next day for sure.
She shook her head. No complaining tomorrow when your head is splitting apart!

Tireya looked to Mereel and smiled warmly. She was amused, not only by how he was conversing with Ka'ra, but also for his willingness to forgo in childish banter which in her eyes was a ploy to amuse and gladden the smaller girl.
She let loose a laugh when Mereel spoke teasingly to her and perhaps leaving here once Ka'ra came of age. Hell, they weren't even together to begin with so it baffled her as to where this was coming from. Maybe a few too many drinks already? She blushed, slightly amid his considering of them already being together, even though they weren't and hell, she knew that Mereel would have to be careful now with her father figure now present in Sammael, a man that did not look so amused right now.
She sipped some of the tihaar from her tankard now, allowing the fiery concoction to slither down her throat. "If that's your pleasure." She winked at him before crossing her legs under the table her foot likely brushing his in the process. At least she hoped the foot she'd brushed was his.

*Well, it appeared she'd done it: She'd gotten him with her declaration, for he'd removed the helmet, letting it fall to the table as he appeared quite stupefied. She blinked, glancing around, then her attention returned to Mereel when he again roared with laughter, awarding her the point before clanging his tankard against her glass, forcefully enough to displace some of the liquid. Admittedly something Ka'ra was not quite fond of, her eyes widening a little and her hand coming up to her face so that she could lick the running liquid off the back of her hand before looking back up at Mereel and declaring,* "Nu g-go'naasir tihaarrr!"1
*She grinned and then attempted to match his pace in downing the precious fiery liquid, savoring every satisfyingly burning gulp, before slamming her glass down on the table again and promptly hiccuping. She swayed a little in her seat, mind going a little blurry, but not blurry enough to lose track of the conversation. Her head lazily tilted up as Mereel commented to Tireya that he should leave her for Ka'ra when she comes of age.
Flattering... Ka'ra was blushing, for more reasons than alcohol intake, but she only giggled, the act interrupted by a small hiccup.* "Vor'e," *she slurred,* "a tion'parer bah vaabir ash'ad? Sur'ulur te dala!"2 *After somehow managing to complete that sentence without going off track, she threw her head back and laughed at the top of her own lungs, as though trying to match the intensity of Mereel's guffaws from a moment ago; she thought she was clever.*
1Don't waste tihaar! 2Thanks, but why wait to do someone else? Keep an eye on the woman!

Waving off Sidara's concerns he jerked a little as something made contact with his foot, the accompanying wink from Tireya giving meaning to the akalenedat. His attention turned back to Ka'ra as she spoke again, the slurred words making him grin as he watched her slam her own cup down. The resulting roar of laughter, articulated by her high voice, sounded like he would should he have inhaled helium and had him once again roaring his own amusement. Again he thumped the table, turning to Sidara.
"Mhi hiibir ibic solus yaim, elek?" {{We should take this one home, yes?}}
He muttered the words around more laughter, leaning across the table to clap Sammael on the shoulder in jolly camaraderie.
"Udesiir, ner tat. Gar troan liser bevik emuurir ibac!" {{Chill out, brother. Your face could stick like that!}}
